One Night Stand: John Cena Vs JBL

Mighty NorCal

SHALL WE BEGIN?
7117528

As announced on RAW. JBL wins the right to pick his stip, and he picks first blood.

Wow could they think of anything worse for these two?? I mean you cant really use weapons TOO much, becuase of the danger of legit opening. Think this is a terrible Idea. But meh, itll be a brawl, so not bad. I personally enjoyed their JD match, but thats just me.

Hmm.... makes me think the WWE wants John Cena to bleed like back at Judgment Day 2005. Nah, but this match does benefit both men more as it will be a brawl with the added affect of using weapons to make the other bleed. I think this should be the end of the whole JBL vs Cena feud as i expect the winner to challenge the champ at Night of Champions. It wont be a classic wrestling match ,but I expect to see a decent brawl.

The only purpose I see this having, is allowing Cena to lose without losing any credibility. He could get "accidentally" busted open, and it could happen on any type of fluke like happening. Whereas making the match some type of pinfall only contest, or a bullrope match.. Cena would have to legit lose, without any question about it.

The way I see this turning out. J.B.L. gets busted open while the official is knocked out. Bradshaw in turn busts Cena open, then either wipes his face off with a towel while the official sees Cena first.. or Cena will be seen first, while J.B.L. hides.

Either way, NorCal was right.. this basically is a hardcore match, without the hardcore element from fear of accidentally, actually, getting busted open the hard way. I think in the end both men will be bleeding, but John Cena will most likely drop in the end.

This will be a big time brawl match most likely. I reckon that there is a reason for either one of them to win, but most likely a pick up of JBL.

The reasons for either to win:

Cena - He won't stay out of the title picture forever. If he wins, then we will see a HHH Cena fued, which is very unlikely. I have a small part of me only saying Cena will win

JBL - Fresh fued or sorts with HHH will come of this assuming he wins. He will win in some sort of fluke or sneaky way obviously.

JBL will come out on top of this one.

I don't mind First Blood matches. Anybody can lose, and keep whatever momentum they have. It doesn't take much to bust somebody open in wrestling context. Although I have to say that I'd prefer an I Quit match, considering the best match between the two was that gimmick. Then again it wouldn't live up to it, so this might bet the better choice.

I'm looking forward to this. Neither are much good in straight wrestling matches, but as a brawler JBL is one of the best.

This match actually has a bit of potential for me. Out of all the matches announced last night, this is the only one that's not completely predictable. First bloods are intriguing because a loss doesn't really mean the other person dominated you, just that they may have gotten in a series of good shots. This is probably the best way that WWE could've gone in this feud as it provides a perfect prelude into a final match between the two. I'll go with JBL here but wouldn't be suprised to see Cena win.

I'd love to see a total mishap where JBL accidentally bleeds and they have to call the match over, despite having booked him to win lol. That's the only thing I'm looking forward to in regards to this match.

However, Will's right. Chances are, JBL will cheat in a way and get the win. Watch it be something odd like, JBL bleeds, wipes the blood on Cena, then curls up into a ball so the ref doesn't notice and calls Cena as the bleeding one.

Still, though, with a match like this, they won't even bother using weapons that much out of that fear element that NorCal was talking about. Thusly, it'll just be the two of them punching for 20 minutes.

Similar to the cena vs. jbl match that we just saw, I'm finding it difficult to really care who wins this. I mentioned this for the judgment night match too, but what is the point of this match? At least add a stipulation that the winner is #1 contender or something. Otherwise it is nothing more than just another pointless brawl between 2 wrestlers with much too similar styles, and will likely follow the same format of all of cena's matches.

I will admit though that unlike the HHH vs. orton match, this one is a little more up in the air as to who the winner will be, but even so, in the end there's just no real reason to care who wins this one.

I think this will be an entertaining match and I disagree with the lack of weapons some of you are predicting because of an accidental opening.

I was watching the Legacy of Stone Cold DVD and during the Austin/Kane King of the Ring first blood match and the announcers kept making note that prior to the match the ref (Earl Hebner) had said that he won't stop the match for a small cut. Someone is going to have to actually be really busted open so I see that happening again in this match.

I think this match depends greatly on what the outcome of the WWE title match will be. If WWE plans on having Orton win then I think we'll see JBL win the First Blood Match, and get involved with HHH and Orton for the strap while Cena feuds possibly mid card, though not likley. Should choice B, the most likley choice occur and HHH wins the title match. I expect to see Cena win the First Blood and feud with a Heel HHH. As far as the match itself. I expect to see a pretty good brawl. Both of these guys have kind of similar fighting styles, so it should be entertaining. It kind of reminds me of JBL vs Finlay where both guys are probably going to beat the Hell out of each other. I'm thinking that the match could end from uhhhhhhhhh... a weapon????

I love the thought of someone accidently getting busted open and seeing what happens. If I were on the creative team I'd book a winner, tell the competitors to use weapons, and if the other guy wins so what, just go with it. There are pros and cons of each man winning so its not the end of the world is Cena ends up winning on accident. Just don't pull a WCW. Uncensored First Blood match between Flair and Hogan. Flair was booked to win but got busted open during the match. The announcers kept saying "its at the ref's discreation" and "its a judgement call." Flair then won by pinfall.

I really don't see the point in giving Cena another loss. He took the pin at Mania, he was beating early at Backlash, and he was pinned on RAW. The guy who had a year long title reign and beat everyone there is all the sudden can't beat an out of shape announcer or the two guys he's whipped constantly for two years. I know he can win and still look strong, but he needs a win with an exclamation point on it.

Man, what is up with this lately? Asian Invasion? Lol

Now, I'm not really a fan of Cena, but I'm starting to like him more the way he's been booked lately because of the fact that he isn't just being crammed down our throats. I still don't think he's fantastic in the ring or anything, but he's no Khali. That being said, I can't stand anything about JBL, so I'm officially "rooting" for Cena to win this match. But I totally have to agree with what you say, Slim. There's no point in JBL winning this if he it isn't going to lead to anything. I sure as hell don't want to see HHH/JBL for 2 ppvs in a row, and they haven't said that this is a #1 Contender match anyway. If its just a grudge match and they aren't planning a long program, just have Cena end it with a bang. He hasn't had a decisive win since the Royal Rumble.

However, I still think we're seeing JBL win this, if not just because Cena won their match at Judgment Day, plus how Regal won't be here to challenge HHH at Night of Champions. They'll probably slap together a shoddy HHH/JBL match instead and hope that people are interested in how they haven't been "one-on-one" throughout this long, drawn out, incredibly stale and boring quartet feud.

I really like the way John Cena has been booked lately. He doesn't have the title but he is still the top dog. Also, is it just me or is Cena receiving more cheers from the crowd after each week goes by.

Anyway, I actually think this will be one of the best matches on the card come One Night Stand. This gimmick suits both men well. I enjoy most First Blood matches and I hope this one doesn't disappoint me.

Predictability helps this match obviously. Either one of them could win really. Cena could easily win because he needs to be booked strong if hes gonna wrestle for the WWE title at Summerslam. On the other hand JBL needs this win more so he can receive a WWE title opportunity at the next ppv and go into that match looking strong.

I think JBL will win after cheating or some outside interference. It should be a good 15 minute brawl.

I've posted in this thread already, but just to add another thought...personally, I don't care who wins this match, but still I think that to give JBL any sort of credibility he needs a win here. Ever since he came back he hasn't really been able to have a decisive victory in a match that mattered. Right now he is pretty much in the same boat as umaga and mark henry--a top level contender but doesn't win. If he doesn't win this match, by cheating or otherwise, there's really nowhere else for him to go, but down to challenging for the intercontinental belt.

I'm sorry if I'm mising something here, but am I the only one who pissed off about this match?

As far as I'm concearnd, it's just another nail in ECW's coffin.
This is supposed to be ECW's show after all, then they get JBL who has totaly put down ECW in the past, and have him compete...?
So now all of a sudden JBL has magically removed his previous comments on ECW from history?

This is WWEcw's best known event from the recent revival, and it could be used to give ECW and it's guys that extra push that it DESPERATLY needs, yet they are filling it with the likes of JBL!

Goddamn, I'm glad I've stopped watching ANYTHING to do with WWE.
I get it free over here in the U.K. and I still won't give it a second look.

ECW's dead and gone...it's never coming back!!! It hasn't been there show since 2006! To be quite honest with you, it's ALWAYS been Vince's show!!!! I don't like it anymore than you do....but still!

In regards to this match...basically same crap...different stipulation...I hate it when someone is beaten fair and square, clean down the middle, and they get a rematch! From my standpoint it just doesen't make sense!

This started as an ECW event, but like everything else, its been streamlined into the standard of WWE. Its not longer just an ECW thing, just as the ECW brand is no longer the old ECW. Its the same as how the King of the Ring is not a ppv anymore, but its still a part of the WWE. One Night Stand is no longer "ECW: One Night Stand", its just "WWE: One Night Stand", wherein every match has Extreme Rules, just like how Night of Champions is the gimmick ppv where every championship is on the line, or how Cyber Sunday is the one where everyone votes, etc.

I've noticed that, too. When Cena isn't being billed as the greatest thing to walk on Earth and an unbeatable champion for a year straight, he's much more tolerable. Not having the entire show revolve around him eases people's hatred for him and allows them to cheer him like a typical face, lol. I don't mind him in the role he's been in lately at all, and I'm just hoping that come Summerslam it doesn't just revert to him winning the title and going back to the "same shit, different day" schedule it was throughout most of 2007.

Mmmm, couldn't have said it better myself. I'm not a Cena fan by a longshot (everyone I know that is happens to be a female that barely knows he's a wrestler. go figure), but he is at least watchable and I don't cringe in pain when he approaches the ring. I just hope he never freestyles again. *shudder*

from what i understand whoever wins this is gonna face Triple H
and i realy dont wanna see Triple H vs JBL because that would be a snooze fest
and everyone knows Triple H would win so im hoping Cena wins because i's rather
see Triple H vs John Cena because at least it would have star power and
at least cena would have a chance of winning
with that said i'd say that JBL will win by some kind of cheating tactic
then Cena will F-U him after the match and everybody will scream YAY go Cena
and all the internet Cena haters will say Go to hell John Cena and i'll
be happy because Cena realy isnt that bad

Ignoring the gibberish post above, I agree, Cena's far more tolerable when he's not forced down people's throats for over a year. Also, it amused me when JBL went on about making Vince's boyfriend bleed.

The thing I'd like to see would be a Cena win and heel turn. I know for merch reasons that will never happen, but I think i'd enjoy it. The only alternative if cena wins is the long awaited HHH heel turn.
I think Cena wins though because they've underpushed him initially

JBL told mickie that she would make her "bf" john cena bleed he didn't say that to vince! John Cena is one of my fav wrestlers and I got to agree with everyone else that I was getting tired of seeing him more than 5 times in one airing of raw and not being the main event everyday! It was annoying that he always won and I'm glad that now he is getting more support and he's a mid-card wrestler that everyone likes and has enough fans to back him up. I'm really looking forward to the match and I want cena to win of course. There will be a lot of punching but it should be interesting.

Jay Bee Eazy will take this most likely. Makes no sense for Cena to win it. Although thats what I said 3 weeks ago, so you never know. Most likely JBL wins on some fluke shit when Cena gets busted open. So we can have a straight up throwback classic wrasslin match between Triple H and JBL at NOC. Yaaaaaayyy

My last minute take on this match-up.

I am actually not entirely sure what to make of this, but I have a fairly good idea. Even though Cena I would prefer to see, it doesnt seem likely for JBL to lose 2 ppv's in a row. JBL pinned Jeff on raw this week, so assuming they are putting him up for contendership, that and winning over Cena will give him a good oush.

He doesn't even have to win cleanly, as most have said he can win by an accident. Plus Cena seems to be going into some random bf, gf, storyline with Mickie. Not sure waht to think of that though. My pick is JBL for the win.
