[OFFICIAL] Sheamus as the WWE Champion Thread

I didn't really like Sheamus at first, or dislike for that matter, I didn't really have much of an opinion at all.. until I watched some FCW matches (this is back when he was beating up Noble and whatnot) and was rather impressed.

I understand the potential Trips sees in him, he's pretty good. I feel he isn't up to the professional wrestling level.. yet. In my opinion, he's doing just fine in the ring. It's nothing super exciting but what ME wrestler is, to be honest? They all have five moves of doom and I absolutely love the fact he has a unique look. So tired of seeing roided up guys with fake spray tans running around. His mic and promo work are slowly getting better as the weeks pass us by. If managers still existed in the 'E he would be doing SO much better with one.

Pretty obvious on why a lot of people are hating on him though: Take wrestling too damn serious. Isn't wrestling supposed to be for entertainment? HOW do you expect to be entertained when all you do is bitch and moan about every little detail you don't agree with? If you're such a hot shot, go run your own wrestling business and compete with WWE. Good luck with that.

Smark check-list:
Complain about the main event being too stale.
Complain about young stars not being pushed.
Complain when a young star -IS- pushed.
Complain 'backstage politics' take place because the guy you wanted wasn't the one pushed.

So what if he's being pushed because Triple H likes him? I like and respect Triple H and he's earned his corn. Aside from being a world class wrestler himself, Trips clearly knows a lot about the business and is very passionate about it. Triple H has also helped put over god-knows how many guys over the years and he's jobbed, when necessary. He carried one of the most successful feuds in WWE history (Rock vs. HHH) and that feud wasn't all down to just Rocky's charisma.

Back to Sheamus, what I like about him IS his unpolished, untanned look and his gritty mic skills. He brings something new to the table and I just wish that people would at least appreciate that. It's not like others haven't had their chance to shine either. Kofi, MVP and Swagger have had their chances, but their haven't seized it like Sheamus has. They are all good, but Sheamus clearly had the edge and was just one step ahead, hence the push.

I like Sheamus. He's good on the mic, has a great move set that is really brutal, an interesting look (something that most wrestlers lack these days) and a good entrance theme and presentation. He walks and carries himself like a World Champion should and definately has the size and presence of one.

My only problem is how he's been booked so far. He usually gets the upperhand against guys like Cena and Orton during promo brawls but WWE won't let him beat a credible main eventer cleanly. He beat Cena but it was made to look like he fell through the table. Then at the Rumble it was made to look like Orton had him beat until Cody got involved. Sure he beat Christian but kayfabe-wise that should be expected.

With the look this guy has he should be built up as a Lesnar-type World Champion. Instead WWE seems to be making him into more of a tactical heel.

Hoping he retains at EC.

I'm a sheamus fan, as well. As usual it's my propensity to like heavyweights that fuels that, but the way he carries himself, as you mentioned, really works in his favor as well.

I think the tactical heel way of doing things makes him a little more credible in the long run. If he's just a big guy that destroys, like his original build where he "retired" jamie noble", in the end it will not leave him with much credibility. He'll get over quicker as a main eventer this way, and will only be a positive thing for him.

So think about it, a few more years down the line he'll be over as a tactical character that can think in his matches and not just "RAAWWWRR DESTROY". With this he can really work in any feud as a heel with nearly anybody. Already he's getting to that point where he can basically work with anyone he gets in the ring with, and that's a huge accomplishment for someone who has only been a main eventer in WWE for not even 6 months.

i'm also starting to like sheamus. They built him up nicely at first a champion that uses dirty tactics to retain his championship and in a way "slippery" because he always seem to escape with a DQ win or loss but the point is he retains his championship. and i was also happy to finally see him beat someone legit in christian.Hope he retains this sunday or somehow escape w/ a dirty victory once again!

I give him an incomplete. I'm not sold on him as this monster, but I'm don't believe he's an over-achiever. And putting the belt on him does give a break to all these other guys who usually have the belt.

That said, I'll be surprised if he still has the belt after Sunday. I don't see him in the main event at Wrestlemania. But having the belt for a little while will at least (try to) establish him as legitimate even without the belt.

Beyond I like, or not, the fact that Sheamus is the WWE Champion, it seems that not even the WWE is high on this one. I find funny that there's not a single piece of merchandising of the WWE Champion. The champion is the banner of the company, and I think WWE is devaluating the tittle run by not even pushing it by themselves. I don't think it would sell that much, but at least it will show they care. My point, treat your champion as a CHAMPION in every way.

Personally, I was not high on sheamus when he 1st came into the company. Thought that his pale skin was way to "noticable" if you will. (Wonder when he'll start hittin the tannin booth) ha.
But actually as of late, he has been putting on some good matches IMO. His match with Orton this past monday, I thought was the best match I've seen him in since his arrival. He is GOOD on the mic, and is deffinatkey ggod in the ring.
Shit, it sure as hell should help when one of your good friends is the "king of kingd" HHH. IMO if he is down with Hunter, he then he must be a worthy talent. Somebody see something in this guy, and you know what? I'm startin to see it 2.

Ok, so 2 ANSWER in IMO... Ha.. Deff. Agree. He needs some kind of shirt or toy or something for the kiddies to pin up or have in they room or whatever it is these youngsters do with their memorbiela nowadays.
He needs that so e can be the one everyone knows because he is everywhere you go, jus like all the other superstars.
You gotta be able to sell, sell, sell, by Vinnie Mac"s order, so it is deff. Surprising that the guy DON'T have any merch. Out.

Ok, So they arent pushing him, So does that mean they arent supporting him?
No, it just means they havent found a good push for him to do yet!!
I thought they amy go with the Irish thing but after the way Finlay has used that I dont see that happening. I would use the fact that he was the underdog in every match and beaten the odds to remain champ and have him billed as the the celtic underdog or something to that nature. Have him remain heel till he actually starts to draw some cheers then do a full face turn, or they could merchandise him as the new ronald mcdonald. Your Choice

Heels aren't supposed to sell merch. Fans are supposed to hate them and go buy the shit to support the hero. Also I don't really see Shaemus gear flying off the shelves. It's just way to early for him for WWE to consider investing that kinda cash. I smell CLEARANCE SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!
From what I see the WWE is FULLY behind Shaemus. Him not having merch, which wouldn't sell at this point, isn't an indication of such

Well they have pushed him to fast to even give him a gimmick. I mean I really don't know what role he is supposed to be playing the monster heel? They pushed him too fast to actually make some merchandise for him. It's like if they pushed Mike Knox to win the WHC.
What is he gonna wear? Are they going to sell Bears as merchandise? They need to establish Sheamus more so that they start making shirts and stuff like that for him to sell. Ans like others said he is a heel, people aren't supposed to buy stuff from him they are supposed to hate him.

They aren't rushing any merchandise for him because he's not only incredibly new but a heel. He's finally starting to not just get over, but gain some credibility. He's not the likeable heel like Kennedy and he isn't as over and as known as Orton. Let them establish his character a little more and he'll get merch. He has an incredibly marketable look so there won't be any shortage of gimmicky shirts with celtic imagery on it. And you have to remember Lesnar didn't have merchandise until well after he won the WWE title.
