Are you fucking kidding me? This was an awesome show top to bottom.

I hated Rock's promo, but I just don't think Rock is as good as Cena when it comes to the shit talking. Rock just pokes fun at stupid shit while Cena obliterates with facts.

T.

That promo was great are you kidding me? The only way Cena can respond to the Rock is by rapping and his second rap was total garbage. Dude could never go toe to toe with the Rock in a verbal altercation. He would have to rap the whole time. And Rock did note one fact about Cena, he is not that talented.

Good Raw, finally some wrestling matches. Can't stand the Snookie thing though. Cole segment was way too long. Drew Carey???? Miz is really making a name for himself. Cena is lagging behind Rock and Miz in this triangle.

I thought it was an ok Raw pretty much had the same beat all the Raws have had thus far in the road for WM. Just a few thoughts:

-I didn't think the whole Snooki appearance was bad until it was unveiled that she would be at WM in a match. Besides that she was pretty much not a big deal during the show which is great because I thought she would have a had a bigger presence. But I do dread her being at WM.

-I don't like the Miz at all he is boring at all and there is nothing that will change that. He doesn't deserve to be champion and will hopefully lose it at Mania but I gotta admit I had a nice laugh when he came out as the Rock, I thought that was pretty funny.

-As for his shit with Cena it might have dragged a bit towards the end but it was alright. The thing I don't get is that the Miz has attacked Cena the last several shows wouldn't he by now expect that the Miz will be trying to do that all the way to WM. I am sure though the next couple weeks Cena will get Miz a couple times back.

-Overall an Ok show I'd give it about a C-. Had its moments but pretty online with everything else that has happened on Raw since the road to WM began. I marked out when JR came out since i didn't really expect it. I hope Cole gets destroyed at WM and who gives a shit about Swagger after this is all set and done he will be buried until he is released. Not that its bad because there is nothing special about him and whatever there was has gone down the drain since he lost his title (which was a mistake in the first place).

I've been reading through the posts above me, and I'll admit I was surprised by how many people thought this was a great raw.

I think it can be boiled down in this manner: If you like a show that is almost nothing but advancing storylines, sure, it was a great show. If you like so...oh I don't know, actual entertaining wrestling interspersed among your storyline progressions, it was awful.

The seamus vs. bryan match was good. The others, meh. Miz vs. khali did not really count. Orton vs. ryan was over in 3 minutes and it went EXACTLY how anyone would predict such a match to go, followed by randy orton's overdone boot to the skull and then freaking out and doing just about everything but foam at the mouth like a lunatic. The vickie vs. trish was a waste of everyone involved and can't really count. Cena vs. del rio was ok. So 2 matches.

As far as the rest of the show, the rock promo was too long and stupid, not to mention hypocritical if we're supposed to actually believe what rock has been saying in his promos. The miz promo was well done but also went too long. The JR/Cole/King/Christopher segment was awkward, uncomfortable, and unnecessary for all involved, yet I guess we can always expect that mcmahon won't ever pass up a good chance to humiliate JR again. Yawn, another HHH promo package. The miz impersonating the rock...again.

I don't know, I guess I just didn't feel this episode at all. Very little quality wrestling, and bits and promos that went on way too long. I got the overall impression that this night was more about wasting time than providing any real quality.

Awesome Raw tonight. I didn't know what to expect from The Rock. WWE made a smart move airing his video to start the show. I found the video hilarious. One of the best original promos I have heard in a while. The Rock didn't have to drone on and on about John Cena, using catchphrases, and talking about how he loves the fans. He made fun of Cena and got his point across to The Miz. Simple and effective.

The Miz has established himself as a great heel. He called Rock and Cena. I never really cared for the way The Miz called out Cena or The Rock in the past, but he was on his game tonight. I'm curious as to why Cena wasn't interviewed about his thoughts toward The Miz attacks and The Rock. I guess we have had enough talking on Raw, which I'm fine with.

Great match between Sheamus and Daniel Bryan. Michael Cole is the most over heel in WWE and probably the wrestling world at this moment. He is starting to get Sgt. Slaughter heat. I couldn't believe WWE dug up Brian Christopher. His comments were very personal with King considering he has had problems with the law in the past. Jim Ross making an appearance was great. I hope that this means JR will have some involvement in commentary at WM 27.

Orton vs. Mason Ryan was a decent showdown. I'm glad that Ryan is finished with the rest of the Nexus members. This stable hasn't accomplished anything recently, and its time for CM Punk to stand out on his own again.

Snooki didn't stink up the show. It was clever of WWE to have her involved with the biggest heels in the diva's division: LayCool, and Vickie Guerrero. I cringed when I heard that Snooki, John Morrison, and Trish Stratus will face Laycool and Dolph Ziggler at Mania. Couldn't Morrison and Ziggler face each other in a separate match? Why does Snooki have to wrestle? Where is Natalya and Beth Phoenix? I guess at the end of the day it doesn't matter if WWE gets more mainstream publicity.

Drew Cary in the HOF is another subject for another thread. I understand WWE wants to have a celebrity in their wing every year. I'm not sure why its Drew Carey, but whatever.

Cena and Del Rio didn't really have a match since it led to a beat down. The Miz coming out as The Rock was genius. The Miz really is becoming more then just an afterthought.

That promo was great are you kidding me? The only way Cena can respond to the Rock is by rapping and his second rap was total garbage. Dude could never go toe to toe with the Rock in a verbal altercation. He would have to rap the whole time. And Rock did note one fact about Cena, he is not that talented.

Look I know it's not a popular opinion, but I just don't care about The Rock anymore. Any time he says something, it's always "Via Satellite" and he always just makes fun of stupid shit. Every time Cena calls him out, he trashes him with facts and logic. I just like what Cena's doing better. Cena killed him with the T-Shirt bit and until Rock actually shows up to the venue, I don't care what he has to say anymore.

Did you really say Cena isn't that talented? Why am I even responding to you? You're clearly a simp.

Good Raw, finally some wrestling matches. Can't stand the Snookie thing though.

Another thing I'm not understanding. Snookie apparently has the same level of training as virtually every other Diva at this point (meaning none) and nothing that happened in that segment was worse than any other Diva's match this year.

Cole segment was way too long.

That segment was perfection. Period.

Drew Carey????

It's just the Celeb Wing. It's just there for fun and publicity, it means nothing.

Miz is really making a name for himself. Cena is lagging behind Rock and Miz in this triangle.

In my opinion Cena's crushing them both but even looking at it objectively, Miz isn't on their level yet. You're clearly just a blind Cena hater, and a very bad one at that.

Your opinion is definitely not a popular one, but of course you have the right to feel how ever you want to feel, but I too disagree w/your comment. You should know by now that it's a part of the storyline that The Rock isn't there live so to talk shit about him not being there is a little unfair. You kinda sound like one of those fans that just talk shit about the Rock cause you mad he left in the 1st place. The Rock's promo wasn't about stupid shit it was facts to a degree, Cena isn't on the Rock's level he took the ball & didn't run very far, he should be glad The Rock left cause if he didn't Cena wouldn't be the face of the company. Cena fan base is mostly little kids & there mothers, & Cena does injoy fruity pebbles which he stated himself on his twitter LMAO. Cena also really didn't trash Rock w/any facts stating The Rock doesn't love the business is an opinion cause The Rock has never publicly diss the WWE he just didn't show up to a Raw when asked & noone knows why he couldn't make it ppl just jump to conclusions. Oh & your are a little one sided cause Cena made fun & said some shit also that was stupid to The Rock in his promos as well which is the whole reason why The Rock refers to Cena as a child.

This Raw was just okay IMO The highlights of the night was

The Rocks segments was good it wasn't to long like the last one.

The Miz did pretty good (still don't think he should be in the main event), but he was entertaining overall tonight.

Sheamus match was good, wish they would have saved it for Mania smh

Thats about it everything else was ok or just a waste of time IMO.

A Raw of huge contrasts. There were some great moments such as the Rock promo, the Sheamus/DBD title match and seeing Trish again. The Cena/ADR match was OK too, until the obvious happened and ADR got disqualified.

There were also some terrible moments: Snooki and the Great Khali, enough said.

It was annoying as hell to see VG go to over Trish like that but I think it's being set up for Trish, Jomo and (sigh) Snooki to go over Laycool and DZ at WM. I hope Vickie gets her ass handed to her by Trish. Cole has been getting the upper hand over Lawler at most Raws and the fans are baying for his blood and for him to get what is coming to him. I see a squash at WM with a few stunners thrown in for good measure.

Did you really say Cena isn't that talented? Why am I even responding to you? You're clearly a simp.

Nope not a Cena hater, but you are clearly a Cena lover. I actually love the fact that Cena rapped again, I liked the old rapping heel Cena. But his last rap was terrible. It also takes away from the "freestyle" when it is not a freestyle because he has props. You much not listen to rap because Cena is terrible. You are really on your knees for Cena. Great for the kids but I don't think dude is that talented. You should remove whatever Cena has in your mouth :disappointed:, its messing up your thoughts.

You come across like a child who doesn't understand real life. Obviously the Rock has another job, he is an actor. So you expect him to fly around the country every week when he has stuff to do? I don't understand how Cena is saying "real" stuff, all he keeps saying is how gay the Rock is. Wasn't the Rock married with a kid? Doesn't seem that gay to me.

Don't matter if Miz is on the same level when he keeps doing better than Cena every week. Last week he saved the segment. Cena put the crowd to sleep and people were booing. Did you not see that? Done with you little guy. You can respond so you can make yourself feel good:), but i wont be reading. You a weird guy.

I missed Rock's promo, the one from Miz that followed it was solid for him. The match with Khali was nothing but the chair beatdown was sold well.

The US title match between Bryan and Sheamus was good, hopefully these two will get a chance to have a rematch at Wrestlemania.

Wrestlemania will hopefully see Cole get his, he's done a great job becoming the most repulsive little shit on TV and his match with Lawler has the hottest build going in. Personally I think they should have just had JR come out and do the part with Cole, the Brian Christopher part was a waste of time that the crowd didn't give two shits about, it also overextended what was otherwise a good build up segment.

I don't like face Orton, all that foaming at the mouth style stuff just doesn't interest me, I preferred the cold assassin persona. The match with Ryan was ok given how green he is, he at least hit his backbreakers well and sold the RKO properly. The stare-down with Punk and Orton was well executed the look on Punk's face was gold, he looked like he was bricking it.

Trish vs Vickie (hilarious sneaker fencing. :D) wasn't meant to be a match it was used as a set up to book the 6 person tag and to that end it served it's purpose. I have no particular view on Snooki as other than a vid of some guy punching her I have not seen her in anything, I'd have preferred an actual wrestler got her spot but whatever, it's all a goofy waste of Ziggler and JoMo.

Cena vs Del Rio was brief and by the numbers, Miz looked like a 14 year old pretending to be The Rock as he aped his mannerisms waiting to give Cena the Rock Bottom. The beatdown was overlong and no matter how much they try to make it seem like Miz is a threat to Cena he still comes off like a puppy yapping at the big dog.

It's been ignored, but can anyone explain what Alex Riley was still doing there? I was glad that we would see no more from him in Raw but his dumb ass still showed up.

It was a pretty good show. As a huge Sheamus fan it was good to see him, not only win, but take a hold on a title. I think will help bolster him and some mini fueds and help some of this mid guys get a good look. I'm also a huge Cena fan and for the 4th week he's getting hammered by The Miz. Don't get me wrong its all been done very well. At some point the have to let Cena get his shots in and have some momentum. Or else I could see Miz getting the win to keep Miz as top Heel.

The Miz and Khali was a good sell. Some thing you have to take for there worth. In all honesty I haven't seen a heel with this much hype and momentum going into a PPV, much less a WM, then the Miz has.

The only thing I had an issue with is they should have kicked off RAW (after Rock Promo) with the Snooki angle.

I have to say that I think this week's RAW was a big improvement over recent efforts.

Not as much death by promo in my opinion, always a good thing, and they actually paid some attention to the undercard matches a bit more.

Bryan/Sheamus was a great match and I'm looking forward to a rematch at Wrestlemania.

Nice to see Cena/Del Rio for what we got anyway. Too good of a future match to just give it away with no buildup and I don't feel that they did that.

Just enough to keep it interesting and leading to another Cena beatdown. I just hope this is not leading to a win for Cena at 'Mania. The guy does not neeed another run with the belt, the Miz needs to retain more in order to help solidify his place at the top of the card. Otherwise, he'll look like a sham of a champion and he'll plummet back down the card.

I did not and do not like Snooki's involvement, but I must say she handed it better than I gave her credit for. We'll see how she does on the big stage, but I just wish Morrison/Ziggler was a one-on-one show-stealer instead.

But overall, a much-improved show in my opinion.

WWE Smackdown 18/03/2011 Review/Thoughts

*note * ratings of a TV show is different to a paid show IMHO so the scoring is relevant to other tv matches.
Heavy on the wrestling this week

Edge Vs Brotus Clay W/Alberto Del Rio

Decent TV opener, nothing too special about it.... clay did the usual grunting and that massive suplex but for what it was it was good. Brotus Clay is being booked reasonably strong without hindering the momentum of Edge & Christian *or Del Rio for that matter* and I like that, it's about time we had a body guard that actually did something. Edge picks up the win with a spear after Christian distracts Brotus by attacking Del Rio. **

Christian & Edge brawl with Del Rio & Brotus Clay -> Done very well, the was a good looking spot where Del Rio and Christian fight there way over the announce table into the announcers laps, Teddy Long arrives and sets up a cage match between Christian & Del Rio. *Thumbs Up*

Sheamus Vs Kofi Kingston
Very good champion vs Champion match where both men came out looking good. Early on Sheamus dominates Kofi but then Kofi dominates over Sheamus. Everything looks good, several near falls and a clever come back from Sheamus which enabled him to pick up the win, after playing cowering heel outside the ring, the crowd really got into the match especially towards the end. *** 1/2

Kane & Big Show backstage segment: Big Shows remenises over past glories, Kane goes to chokeslam show, show does the counter they slap each other out of the posistion & Kane claims Big Show 'completes him'. Decent promo showing they are both on the same page & possibly forming a full time tag team.

Cody Rhodes Vs Trent Barreta: Rhodes comes out to new entrance music, which is a shame because I loved the Smoke & Mirrors music but it fits his charecter more, it appears to be a distorted version of the original theme though, which I sort of like as Rhodes is sort of 'distorted' at the moment. This was what it was a squash match, rhodes constantly using his mask to knock out berreta, I love the way rhodes starts matches at the moment where he hides his face until the bell rings then he charges. As a match it was nothing to speak of but it did it's job in building the Rhodes match. 1/2* (But a thumbs up all the same)

Shawn Michales talks the Undertaker HHH match, like on Raw it did it's job in building the match but I don't think it says anything we didn't know before. The video package is again very good. *thumbs up*

Kelly Kelly Vs Layla
A decent Divas match, sure the were points where it looked plain ugly but the were some decent moments, it's above the average TV Divas match.... cole and McCools commentary is infuriating. Layla picks up a win after McCool distracts Kelly when she was on the turnbuckle.... as I said the were some sloppy moments but the was some decent look spots... also Kelly appears to be super over. *

WWE Tag Team Title Match
Kane & Big Show Vs Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel

Side note-> Kane & Big Show get big pops and Slater and Gabriel get large amounts of heat from the crowd.

Decent match, considering it was more to build the Corre/Show&Kane angle... Kane dominates early on before Slater and Gabriel double team Kane, Kane gets the tag and Big Show cleans house.... hit's the Showstopper on Gabriel but Slater pulls the ref out for the DQ. **

Corre beats down Kane & Big Show - This was an excellent and viscious looking beat down which leaves both Kane & Show laid out on the outside. Ezikiel and Barrett both come out after the match and attack both Show & Kane. The Corre then work on the Big Show inside the ring before moving to the outside to work on Kane... Kane fights them off for a little bit before they overwhelm him and lay him out. They then procceded to place the steel step on kane and hit them with the other steps. They then try to put show threw the announce table which doesn't break... unfortuenetly. But all the same this was an impressive beat down which really makes The Corre strong and the WWE have done wonders building this feud, also Barrett hit Waste Land on Big Show which was very impressive. I wasn't too hot on this feud but I look forward to a mania match between these guys *if it's set up* (Thumbs Up)

Del Rio cuts a promo for the Cage match

Jack Swagger Vs Chris Masters
Squash match, Masters almost gets in the Masterlock but that's about all the offence he gets but the stuff they do does look good and the a couple of good looking counters a long with a small dose of psycology where Swagger relentlessly works the ankle with the ring post before winning with the Ankle Lock. *1/2

Cole gives Masters the ANCOLE lock, Swagger holds down Masters as Cole applies the Ancole lock screaming come on lawler... again builds on the excellently built Lawler Vs Cole angle *I don't think they could ever build a announcer feud like this again, it has been surprisingly brilliant* *Thumbs up*

Rey Mysterio Vs Ted DiBiase W/Marysee
A very entertaining match, everything looked crisp and both men worked well together, this was no squash match and DiBiase got in a lot of offense. This was a fast paced, well constructed match with some really nice looking moments & some near falls for DiBiase. Mysterio wins with the 619 and splash, Marysee walks out. Some very good looking counters in this match. ***1/4

Raw Recap over Snooki... waste of time *Thumbs down*

Chrisitan Vs Del Rio (Cage Match)
Very very good match, these guys worked damned well together and Del Rio used the Cage like a natural... Samoa Drop off near the top of the cage on Christian, a sweet looking kick running onto the turnbuckle onto Christian. Both men looked great in this and it went down to the death with both men dangling before Christian fell and picks up the victory, the only minor gripe was the were times where you knew Del Rio was waiting for Christian to intercept him with some delayed climbs but other then that a very good little cage match. **** 1/2

Del Rio throws Christian into the barrier before Edge honks Del Rio's horn getting his attention, he threatens to destroy Del Rios care with a steel chair before Clay blindsides Edge from behind... Del Rio then comes down to Edge with a chair, Brotus places the chair Edge had under his arm and Del Rio then delivers the conchairto to edges arm. *Thumbs Up*

Overall: Brilliant Smackdown this week after the last 2 so/so shows. This is almost or IS as good as the Smackdown at the start of this year... no moment in this show was wasted, it was all used well with a set of good to very good matches which also built up to Wrestlemania. Not much new in terms of revelations or news but who cares, this was one hell of an entertaining show. 9/10

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 3/18/11
March 18th, 2011
Sprint Center, Kansas City, Missouri
Attendance: 15,000 +/- ?

We continue on down the Road to Wrestlemania tonight as Smackdown stops in Kansas City, Missouri as the Wrestlemania clock counts down. They’ve been advertising a tag team title match on tonight’s show between the champions Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater against the reunited team of Edge and Christian. Not much else going on tonight as far as I’m aware, so let’s jump right into it.

Your hosts are Michael Cole, Josh Matthews, and Booker T

We open the show and the first thing that’s announced is a tag team title match tonight with Gabriel and Slater defending against Kane and the Big Show? What the hell happened to Edge and Christian? Something must’ve happened because they advertised Edge and Christian getting the title shot on Raw and all week on ads for Smackdown, hell even my cable box says that Edge and Christian will get a title shot tonight. Hope it’s nothing serious for Edge or Christian, that would be terrible so close to ‘Mania, especially with Christian literally JUST coming back from injury.

Michael Cole get’s his own ring introduction and gets some very nice heat. He comes out with his Slammy award in hand, and takes a seat in the “Cole Mine” (a large glass box around his own personal announcer’s table, similar to the old Pope Mobile box). I freaking love the Cole Mine, what an awesome idea.

Edge vs. Brodus Clay

So I guess Edge is okay, still would like an explanation as to the bait-and-switch for tonight’s main event, but whatever. This is just another way of building up to Edge vs. Del Rio at ‘Mania and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. Edge gets a few right hands in to start before Clay’s power quickly takes over. He grabs Edge off the top rope and gives him a huge overhead belly to belly suplex. Clay goes to work on Edge, choking him over the second rope. Clay starts to work on Edge’s left wrist and arm as a small “Let’s go Edge!” chant starts up. Edge gets a back elbow in and tries for the tornado DDT off the top, but Clay just tosses him off. He tries for a big splash off the ropes but Edge moves at the last second and lays in a few forearms. Edge gives him a drop toehold into the corner and then flies off the top with a big cross-body splash for a quick two count. Edge tries to roll him up but Clay just sits on him and gets a two count of his own. Clay goes for the big butt-bump into the corner but Edge moves and hit’s a bulldog off the top rope. Edge calls for the spear, but Ricardo Rodriguez distracts the ref and Del Rio trips up Edge, letting Clay splash him for what looks like the cheap win, but he kicks out at two. Suddenly Christian comes down to the ring to fight off Del Rio, giving Edge the chance to hit the spear and get the win at 5:10! Nice way to kick off the show and throw some more heat on the Edge-Del Rio feud, I probably would have given Clay the cheap win to get some more heat for himself and Del Rio, but that’s a minor complaint. Nice little opener.

After the match Del Rio, Edge, Christian, and Clay all start fighting in and out of the ring, prompting Teddy Long’s music to hit and the General Manager of Smackdown to come out with a mic. Long books the main event tonight to be Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian, and to assure there will be no interference, it will take place inside of a steel cage! Well shit, that sounds good to me, if we can’t get another E & C reunion, this more than makes up for it.

Sheamus vs. Kofi Kingston

Sheamus is hot off of his US title win on RAW this week, while Kofi is our Intercontinetal champion (I know, I forgot too) so this is Champion vs. Champion here. Sheamus overpowers Kofi to start, working on the left arm. Kofi gets a few lefts and rights in and then hops up to the top rope with Sheamus in the corner, laying in fists until Sheamus just tosses him up and he lands face-first on the top turnbuckle. Big clothesline and Sheamus tries for the cover, but Kofi kicks out at two. Big neck breaker gets Sheamus another quick two. Big back elbow from Sheamus and he poses a bit for the crowd, drawing some nice heat. Kofi tries a quick roll-up, but Sheamus kicks out quickly. Kofi tries to mount a comeback, climbing to the top rope and flying off with a huge cross-body, but Sheamus holds on and rolls through, lifting Kofi right up off the mat without ever breaking the hold and trying for a running power slam, but Kofi slides out of his grip and hit’s a few big kicks and forearms. Nice Russian leg sweep from Kofi and a big clothesline and Kingston is getting fired up. He hit’s the Boom Drop and sets up for the Trouble in Paradise, but Sheamus plays possum and lures Kofi in, hanging him up over the top rope. Kofi hit’s the SOS (a ranhei) though, 1-2---NOO! Sheamus grabs the bottom rope at the last second. Sheamus rolls out of the ring to catch his breath, but Kofi follows him out leaping off the steel steps with a beautiful cross-body. Sheamus slams Kofi’s leg into the steel steps though and hit’s the Brogue Kick back inside the ring and that’s enough to put Kofi away at 5:16. Short, but sweet while it lasted. Sheamus seems to work very well with smaller, fast-paced opponents like Kofi and Daniel Bryan. **

We cut to backstage where Kane (what the hell is Kane anyways? Face, heel, tweener? I have no idea anymore he’s flip-flopped so much) and the Big Show discuss their tag team title match tonight with The Corre. I completely and totally forgot that these two were ever tag team champs before, but Big Show reminds me. Both men choke each other for a bit and then start laughing, Kane saying that Big Show “completes him“. Clearly we’ve stumbled upon some kind of freaky auto asphyxiation sex game between the two.

Cody Rhodes vs. Trent Baretta

Oh shit! Trent Baretta sighting! I wish they’d use this kid more, he’s a good worker and just flat-out fun to watch. Rhodes has new music (thank GOD) and comes out with a black towel over his head, hiding his masked face. I could have cared less if Rhodes was future endeavored a month ago, but this new psychotic Cody Rhodes has won me over quickly and unbelievably I look forward to seeing him every week. Funny how a good angle or feud can do that, huh? Rhodes goes berserk the moment the bell rings, viciously attacking Baretta with big forearms and stiff head butts, which are even more damaging because of the protective mask covering Rhodes’ face. Another stiff head butt and that’s enough to put Baretta away quickly at 0:48. Obviously just a squash match to put over the new mean streak in Rhodes, and it accomplished exactly that. I wish they’d give Baretta a chance as something besides a jobber though. ¼*

Video package about the Triple H-Undertaker feud.

Kelly Kelly vs. Layla

Michelle McCool joins us at the commentary table and sort of flirts with Cole for a bit. Kelly’s looking as fine and dead-eyed as always. Kelly is fired up to start, pushing Layla around and laying kicks into her in the corner. Kelly grapevines her legs around Layla’s neck and hangs her up over the top rope in a Tarantula-like submission move. Damn, when did Kelly learn to wrestle? Lou Thesz press from Kelly and a clothesline, and this has just been all Kelly so far. She hit’s the X-Factor of all things on Layla and gets a quick two count. She tries for the handspring back elbow, but Layla gets the legs up and knocks her down viciously. Kelly goes to the top rope and McCool gets up from the commentary table to yell at her and distracts her long enough for Layla to slam her off the top rope and get the cheap win at 2:06. Much better than your usual Diva’s quickie match, Kelly was fired up and believe it or not actually looked like a legit WRESTLER for a few brief moments. ¾*

WWE Tag Team Title Match
Justin Gabriel/Heath Slater © vs. Kane/Big Show

Still no word on why Kane and Big Show are getting a title shot instead of Edge and Christian like advertised, but oh well, guess they had to switch things around at the last minute. Atleast they gave us a suitable replacement match for the main event. Kane and Gabriel start us off with Kane taking the quick advantage. He hit’s a dropkick off the ropes and gets an early near fall. Gabriel flips out of a back body drop attempt and tags Slater in, who immediately eats a big boot from Kane. Kane misses a big boot and Slater gives him a chop block and tags Gabriel in as both men start to work on Kane’s left leg. Simple and basic big-man vs. little-man psychology here with Gabriel and Slater trading quick tags and trying to take Kane’s leg out from under him. Kane hit’s a big uppercut though and tags Big Show in, who easily cleans house on Slater and Gabriel. Show hits what appears to be the laziest shoulder-block of all time and then gives Slater the choke slam, but Gabriel pulls the ref out of the ring before he can get the 3 count, and apparently that’s enough for the ref to DQ Slater and Gabriel at 3:04. After the match The Corre hit’s the ring and beats down Show and Kane, slamming several steel steps into both men on the ground. You know one of these days you’re going to have to give Slater and Gabriel a clean pin on SOMEBODY guys, Santino and Kozlov got more clean pins than these two have. This whole Big Show/Kane vs. The Corre feud can’t end soon enough. ½*

Backstage Todd Grisham gets a few words with Alberto Del Rio about his steel cage match tonight against Christian. Del Rio says Teddy Long, Edge, and Christian are trying to mess with his destiny, but he’s not going to let them.

Jack Swagger vs. Chris Masters

Yikes, Masters doesn’t even get an entrance, looks like jobbing duty for the Masterpiece. Cole is great here, talking up Swagger’s training of him for his match with the King at ‘Mania, bragging about the ankle lock (or as he calls it now, the “Ank-Cole lock”) he put on Jim Ross on RAW this week. Swagger hit’s a big clothesline to start and then tries working a wristlock, but Masters counters with a Samoan drop. Masters goes for the Master-Lock, but Swagger backs him up into the corner and then grabs the ankle, trying for the ankle lock until Masters kicks him off. Swagger slams Masters’ ankle into the steel post a few times and then kicks his ankle right into it. Back inside Swagger applies the ankle lock, and Masters taps out at 1:57. After the match Cole gets in the ring and applies an ankle lock of his own on Masters for a bit, getting some more heat. Just a quick squash to remind us that Jack Swagger is relevant after he’s done absolutely nothing for the last few months. I’ve seen worse squashes. ¼*

Rey Mysterio vs. Ted DiBiase

This is Rey’s first match since the vicious attack from Cody and Dusty Rhodes a few weeks back. Mysterio gets a huge pop as usual, and DiBiase gets crickets, as usual. DiBiase actually dominates to start with a few big forearms, but Mysterio quickly comes back with a head scissors into the corner turnbuckle. He comes off the top rope but DiBiase hit’s a big dropkick on him in mid-air for a quick near fall. Mysterio flips out of a power bomb attempt but then quickly eats a big clothesline from DiBiase for another close two count. Nice backbreaker from Ted and Rey tries for a head scissors from the apron, but DiBiase counters with an attempted power slam that Mysterio then counters into a sloppy tornado DDT. Headscissors takedown from Rey and he tries another one, but DiBiase delivers a huge face buster! 1-2--NOO! Rey kicks out at two. DiBiase tries for Dream Street, but Rey slides out of his grip and hit’s the 619! He follows it up with a big splash off the top rope and that gets the pin at 3:35. Just another semi-squash match, this time to put over the returning Mysterio. It was fast-paced, hard hitting stuff while it lasted though.

Cage Match
Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio

This should be pretty good stuff. Christian gets a very nice pop for his entrance. For the love of God, I beg of you WWE, just give this man a main event program. He doesn’t even have to win the World title, just make him a main eventer and I’ll stop my incessant Christian cheerleading, I promise. Del Rio runs at Christian as the bell rings and starts laying in slaps and kicks to Christian on the mat. Christian comes back with a big back body drop and then tries to send Del Rio face-first into the cage, but to no avail. Christian tries for the Killswitch Engage, but Del Rio evades. Christian tosses him into the corner and Del Rio leaps up the top rope, trying to scurry out of the cage quickly. Christian meets him up there though and tries for a German Suplex off the top rope, but Christian holds on and tries to climb to the top of the cage, only for Del Rio to give him a huge Samoan drop from the top of the cage! We take a quick commercial break while both men recover and when we return Del Rio is laying in shots to Christian against the cage. Christian runs at Del Rio, but Del Rio moves aside and just tosses him into the steel cage and then hit’s a baseball slide dropkick to the back of Christian’s head, driving him into the steel cage again. Nice back-suplex from Del Rio gets a quick two count. Del Rio slaps on a chinlock for a bit before slamming Christian’s head into the mat again. Del Rio tries to climb out again, but Christian grabs his leg and pulls him down. Stiff kick to the leg from Del Rio and he tries to launch Christian into the cage like a lawn dart, but Christian grabs the cage and counters into a reverse DDT. 1-2---NOO! Del Rio kicks out at two. Christian tosses Del Rio into the cage and tries for the pin again, but yet again Del Rio kicks out at two. Christian tries to walk out the front door, but Del Rio grabs his ankle so Christian tries to climb out the hard way, but Del Rio hit’s a big forearm and then leaps off the second rope and hit’s a huge spinning enziguri to Christian, sending him flying off the top! That was just sick. Del Rio tries to crawl out the front door, but again Christian grabs him at the last moment. Del Rio goes for his armbar finisher, but Christian reverses into the Killswitch Engage! 1-2---NOO! Del Rio kicks out of Christian’s finisher! Christian tries to climb the cage again but Del Rio knocks him down and slams him into the cage between the ropes, using him as a foot-stool almost to try and climb the cage. He’s halfway over the top, but Christian grabs the leg and climbs up to the top of the cage with him. Both men start trading blows, slamming each other into the steel. Del Rio starts to climb over but Christian jumps on his back almost like a piggy-back and he falls to the floor seconds before Del Rio does, giving him the win at 9:36 (shown)! Excellent little cage match here as Del Rio looked like a legit main eventer going toe-to-toe with Christian, and they were able to actually fit some very cool little spots into the match despite the short amount of TV time they had. Del Rio probably could have used the win more, but as a Christian mark I’m not complaining. Great main event, one of the better ones on Smackdown in quite some time. ***¼

After the match Del Rio attacks Christian, sending him into the front row before grabbing a mic and saying he’s going to destroy Edge at Wrestlemania. He grabs a chair when suddenly we hear a car horn honking…it’s Edge, in Del Rio’s car, a beautiful Bentley. Edge grabs a chair out of the front seat and threatens to wreck Del Rio’s car, but big Brodus Clay runs up from behind out of nowhere and attacks Edge. We close out the show with Del Rio and Clay beating down Edge, giving him the Con-Chair-To to his left arm.

Bottom Line: Very fun show this week as we continued to build to Wrestlemania, and while there wasn’t as much done in the way of angle progression, we saw a lot of talent look impressive in fast-paced little squash matches. Kofi Kingston and Sheamus worked a fun little five minute match, the main event cage match was about as good of a cage match as you’ll see under 10 minutes, and to top it all off we even had a Trent Baretta sighting! Fun show and an easy Thumbs Up.

Score: 7.5/10

WWE Friday Night SmackDown! - March 18, 2011

Edge vs. Brodus Clay - Aside from a couple of clunky spots, this was a good opening match and a good showing for Brodus Clay in general. Clay is someone that looks like a legit monster heel, he has a downright intimidating look and he's pretty athletic for a 370 pound guy. There were a few believable near falls from Clay during the match and Edge showed some good resilience. Edge ultimate gets the win via the spear about the 5.5 minute mark. Solid opening match. **1/4

Sheamus vs. Kofi Kingston - Great effort here from both guys and the best match I've seen on SmackDown! the past several weeks. Sheamus works especially well with wrestlers like Kofi & Daniel Bryan and it was another great mesh of styles. Both of them hit many of their signature spots and there was some very solid back and forth action at some points during the match. Sheamus continues to be portrayed as something of an opportunistic, almost thinking man's brawler and I think it's refreshing. He has the look of a big Irish thug but that's not how he's been booked. Sheamus gets the win about the 7.5 minute mark after catching Kofi with the Brogue Kick. Good win for Sheamus in an enjoyable and competitive match. **3/4

Cody Rhodes vs. Trent Barretta - Not really much to say here. It was a minute squash match. However, this match was intended to highlight Cody Rhodes' new mean streak and it was successful in that. Trent Barretta is someone that I enjoy watching and I hope he sticks around long enough for WWE to give him a shot. 1/4*

Layla vs. Kelly Kelly - Not much to write home about but it was decent while it lasted. There was some good intensity from Kelly Kelly here, and it doesn't hurt that she looks incredible, and some good resilience from Layla. Michelle McCool was on guest commentary and I thought she did an ok job of hyping Snooki's interference on Raw and for their upcoming match. Layla gets the win around the 3 minute mark, a cheap win by pulling Kelly Kelly off the second turnbuckle after Michelle provides a slight distraction. Nothing great but nothing bad either. *

The Corre vs. Big Show & Kane - Meh, this match just didn't jive with me. I thought they made Show & Kane look too dominant. The tag champs of Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater came across more as annoyances rather than formidable opponents. The Corre gets DQ'd after Gabriel pulls the ref out of the ring, preventing him from counting Slater's shoulders after taking a chokeslam from Show. The post match beatdown of Kane & Big Show by all The Corre members was well done. Wade Barrett impressed me by putting Big Show up in Wasteland. Big Zeke & Barrett tried to put Big Show through the announce table with a flapjack outside but the table didn't give. I'd say Show will be a little sore after that. The beatdown was much better than the match. 1/2*

Jack Swagger vs. Chris Masters - Pretty much a 2 minute squash match. The real story came after the match when Michael Cole enters the ring and applies the ankle lock to Masters after Swagger wins the match. The match was a throwaway but some good intensity from Swagger and Cole continues to develop his heel personality beautifully. He gets incredible heat, the only one in wrestling with as much heat right now is Vickie Guerrero. 1/2*

Rey Mysterio vs. Ted DiBiase - This was a short match but they packed a lot of action into the roughly 4 minutes it lasted. DiBiase hit some good offense on Mysterio and looked better here than he's looked in many months. We saw a pretty good glimpse of the old DiBiase, the one that had so much promise back when they first paired him up with Maryse. Mysterio did get the win, expectedly, but DiBiase did make him work for it. Solid showing from both wrestlers. **1/4

Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian - Great work from these two to close out the show. Both of them looked very strong throughout the entire match and kept things very competitive. Again, the WWE shows that you can have a great cage match without having the wrestlers blade themselves. There were some of the usual steel cage escape spots, which the crowd is always into, and the match told a really good story. When Christian hit the Killswitch on Del Rio, I thought it showed great resilience from Del Rio when he kicked out. I thought Del Rio was going to pull out the win, being so close to WrestleMania and all, but Christian manages to pull off something of an upset by escaping the cage first a around the 11.5 minute mark. I thought it was a good effort from both men and I'm glad that Christian went over here. It was a nice surprise. The post match stuff was well done and Del Rio was able to save some face by leaving Christian laying at ringside and leaving Edge laying after he was jumped by Brodus Clay from behind. The Conchairto to Edge's left arm from Del Rio was the perfect finishing touch. ***1/4

Overall Show - Very wrestling heavy SmackDown! last night. I'm not complaing about that at all because we've had little quality wrestling over much of the past month on television. Some of the matches were sort of throwaway matches but they did have a purpose and did their jobs. I like Cody Rhodes' more aggressive side, Mysterio looked good in his match and DiBiase looked better than he's looked in a very long time. Michael Cole continues to get massive heat and he's arguably the most over heel in wrestling at this point in time. The tag title match wasn't much but the post match beatdown of Kane & Show was done well. The opening match of Edge & Clay was really solid with Clay controlling most of the action. Sheamus & Kofi Kingston had a great match, very physical and competitive. The match of the night was the main event between Christian & Alberto Del Rio. I so hope that Christian gets placed in the WHC match with Edge & Del Rio at WrestleMania. It'd be a great match and I think Christian continued to show why he should have been a main eventer in WWE a long time ago. I thought the show would have been better if they'd cut down on some of the matches and gave others like Edge vs. Clay, Sheamus vs. Kofi & Christian vs. Del Rio a little more time, but it was still a very entertaining episode.

Grade: B+

Smackdown Hits and Misses 3/18/11

Smackdown Hits:

Christian vs Alberto Del Rio: It's good to see them to continue to keep Christian in the main event scene, because it really adds intrigue to the World Title Match come Wrestlemania. Further, this was a fantastic cage match that closed out a great Smackdown show. This match got plenty of time, had all the right spots, and Christian's win took no heat off Del Rio because Christian simply fell to the ground first, instead of beating him by pinfall or submission. Any little amount of heat that may have been lost by Del Rio was more then made up for in the post-match beat downs of both Christian and Edge. Christian reersing the arm-bar attempt into the Killswitch was the best use of that move that Ive ever seen, quite honestly, and this was the best match on WWE TV in some time.

Sheamus vs. Kofi Kingston: It's amazing how little Kofi seems to lose in terms of momentum and crowd support despite the fact that he rarely wins. As for Sheamus, he's been been buried for so long that I honestly forgot he could work until this Monday. On any other night, this would have been match of the night, but it will have to settle for second best behind Christian/Del Rio. It's frustrating to see someone as talented and over as Kofi lose time and again, but it only makes sense you can't take away Seamus' momentum when he just got it back. Hopefully WWE has something planned for Kofi come Wrestlemania and it will be the beginning of the push he so rightfully deserves as a fantastic performer.

The Corre vs. Big Show and Kane: The match itself was quiteclunky, which is what you'ld expect between these four. However, the post-match beat downs of Kane and Big Show had a ton of great psychology that really worked well, and made the Corre seem like a legitimate threat for the first time. Common sense dictates that you are going to need something impressive to leave two guys like Kane and Big Show laid out, and Corre delivered that here, outside of the weak Wasteland from Barrett, but easier said then done. The spot with the stairs was so simple but so effective here. Im not looking forward to them mixing it up Mania as it seems thats where they're headed, but this worked well.

Michael Cole: I hated Cole's heel charcter when he first debuted it, and in a "go-away" type of way. But everything he's doing right now is working for all the right reasons. The Jack Swagger vs. Chris Masters match served one purpose, to get Cole in the ring and let him use the ankle lock. Cole continues to entertain me more and more every time I see him. The Cole Mine, the Fortress of Aptitude, the An-Cole Lock, all of it just entertains me so much. The Jack Swagger vs. Chris Masters match served one purpose, to get Cole in the ring and let him use the ankle lock. I have no desire to see him wrestle, other then to see Lawler pound the crap out of him, so I suppose its working in that way as well. In the end, WWE has done a great job of building Cole's heel persona since NXT Season 1, and it's really won me over.

Edge vs. Brodus Clay: This match was certainly nothing special, and even had its clunky spots at times, which surprised me. But the match served its purpose(notice the theme?) and Clay is getting one heckof a rub by being inthere with the main eventers and upper-card workers week in and out. Clay needs some wins over some lesser babyfaces to truly establish himself, but his assocation with Del Rio is working for the time being. Brodus continues to look like a legit monster heel, and is only a few key wins away from being one of the top heels on Smackdown. This was a good opening segment to set the pace for the rest of the show, and definitely gave Smackdown a different feel from the talk heavy Raw.

Kelly Kelly vs. Layla: This was the best match Ive ever seen out of Kelly Kelly, period. Layla continues to improve in the ring as well, but she ddn't carry Kelly here. It wasn't a classic, but Kelly showed none of the normal hesitation and slopiness she generally demonstrates in the ring. The cartwheel spot in the corner looked especially brutal. absolutely brutal. I was very impressed by this match, and kudos to both women.

Overall Show: Smackdown returned to its roots as the wrestling show with eight matches that were all solid to good, and most of them served a purpose. They showed that the build towards Wrestlemania can be done inside the ring just as well as it can with promos and backtage segments. The extracurricular activities at the end of both the Edge and Christin matches were well done and continue to keep Del Rio a step ahead of Edge on the road to Wrestlemania, and rightfully so. I love Christian's continued involvement and relevance as well as it leaves open so many options for what he'll be doing at Wrestlemania. A- overall.

Smackdown Misses

Rey Mysterio and Cody Rhodes: Mysterio and DiBiase actually had a good little match here, and may even have given us a slight glimpse of what we can expect from Cody and Rey at Mania. However, I lumped these two together and gave it a "miss" because they did nothing to build towards Wrestlemania. I dont expect one to be interfering in the other's matches on a weekly basis, but there was no mention of their match by either here. Further, I understand and certainly appreciate that they are trying to put over Cody's new darker gimmick. But I fail to see don't see how wrestling in his suit serves that purpose. Keep the towl and the mask and the aggessive side, but lose the suit.

WWE RAW 3/21/11
March 21st, 2011
CONSOL Energy Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Attendance: 16,102

Well it’s Monday and that means RAW. We’re less than two weeks away from Wrestlemania 27, and tonight things continue to heat up as the WWE stops in Pittsburgh. Earlier today it was announced that Randy Orton will face Rey Mysterio in a “Wrestlemania Rewind” match on tonight’s show. I guess they’re just pretending like Kurt Angle was never in that match with them. The WWE usually tries to step it’s game up in the weeks leading up to ‘Mania, so hopefully tonight’s show will be a good one.

Your hosts are Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, and Josh Matthews

We open the show with the ring announcer introducing Jim Ross, but of course it’s actually Michael Cole in a fatsuit with cotton in his mouth, BBQ sauce in one hand, and a cast around his ankle. He throws his hat at The King and then runs into the Cole Mine (his own personal glass booth). Moderately amusing.

Suddenly Triple H’s music hits and he makes his way out to the ring. He grabs a mic and ponders on the 20 years he’s been in the business. Triple H points out the signs in the crowd rooting for both Undertaker and himself. He talks about how the Undertaker’s streak might be bigger than any championship he’s ever held, and how ending it will be his career defining moment. He promises to end the streak and ‘Taker’s career at ‘Mania and even rips off the “Rest in Peace” line from his opponent until suddenly….Ted DiBiase comes out? What the HELL? He has a mic and says a year ago he was one of the rising stars of the WWE and now he’s just an afterthought. DiBiase threatens to take out Triple H here tonight and what it could do for him, but the moment he hits the ring it’s FUKKEN BURIED time as Triple H starts beating his ass outside the ring, slamming him into the steel steps and tossing him into the barricade. Triple H grabs a chair and slams it a few times on DiBiase. Holy hell, am I having a flashback to RAW 2003 with Haitch doing the burial of young talent to open the show? Triple H grabs DiBiase and gives him the pedigree right through the announcer’s table, and that’s your opening segment. Not bad but nothing seriously engaging either.

Sheamus vs. Evan Bourne

Sweet, Evan Bourne back on RAW, he’s always fun. Bourne tries some quick kicks to start but Sheamus easily overpowers him in the early going. Sheamus lays in some big forearms into Bourne’s chest while he’s tied up in the ropes. Spin-heel kick from Bourne and he goes to the top to try Air Bourne, but Sheamus moves at the last second and then hits the Brogue Kick on Bourne for the pin at 1:24. Boooo, Bourne just came back he shouldn’t be doing jobbing duties so quickly, it’s not like Sheamus is in desperate need of a win or anything. This looked like it could have gotten fun if it wasn’t a squash match. *

After the match Sheamus gets on the mic and gloats about his US title win, which cues Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries” to play and Daniel Bryan to come out with a mic of his own. Bryan says he’s invoking his re-match clause, and he wants to have the match at Wrestlemania. Sheamus tosses him the US title and then just boots him right in the face. I guess that’s Irish for yes? Good stuff, this is what I like to see, a midcard feud leading to Wrestlemania and with it being Bryan’s first Wrestlemania, I fully expect him and Sheamus to try and steal the show.

After a commercial break we return to see Randy Orton outside the arena where he’s met by Scott Stanford (who I believe will be the next great play-by-play man for the WWE) who asks him what it’s like traveling around in the big WWE bus. Orton puts over the bus like this is a freaking infomercial for WWE Bus Tours or something, before addressing Nexus and Punk. He promises to show Punk what “sick and twisted” really is.

Maryse vs. Eve Torres

Still not sure what they’re doing with Eve. Maryse and Eve each slap eachother in the face to start before Maryse slams Eve’s head into the mat by her hair. Irish whip into the corner and Maryse slams Eve’s head into the turnbuckle a few times. She misses a running a knee and suddenly Michael Cole gets on a microphone saying “Can we get this over with please?”, saying what every wrestling fan thinks every time the Diva’s come out. Cole rambles on while Eve slams Maryse into the corner a few times and then hits a few kicks and a forearm. Eve tries a standing moonsault but Maryse gets her knees up to block it. Eve just hits an awkward neckbreaker to finish Maryse off at 2:21. After the match Eve wants to fight Cole but he stays in his little protective box and gets some more good heat like the rat he is. The usual short and awkward Divas match with no heat at all. ¼*

Justin Gabriel/Heath Slater vs. Santino Marella/Vladimir Kozlov

Another non-title match I guess. We’ve seen this match a hundred times if we’ve seen it once, and it was never good. Santino and Gabriel start us off with a big hip toss from Santino and a tease at the Cobra. Gabriel tags Slater in and he applies a chinlock to Santino. Santino tags in Kozlov who overpowers Slater with ease, hitting big kicks. He gets distracted by Wade Barrett though and Heath Slater hits a reverse DDT on Vladimir and tags Justin back in, who hits the 450 Splash to get the clean pin on Kozlov at 1:51. After the match Kane and Big Show hit the ring and clean house on Nexus, giving big Ezekiel Jackson a double-chokeslam. I was just saying the other day that the WWE needed to give Slater and Gabriel some clean wins for us to take them seriously, so I guess I got what I wanted in a weird, twisted kind of way here. ½*

We cut to John Cena being prepared for an interview, apparently “Live via satellite”. We’re going to hear his response to The Miz’s actions last week next. After a commercial break we get confirmation from the WWE that next week The Rock will be on RAW live and in person. We get a recap to last Monday night’s main event and The Miz’s beatdown on Cena. After the video package we return to Cena live via satellite, who says that he will be at RAW next week to be face-to-face with The Rock. King asks Cena if he’s underestimated The Miz because of his attention being occupied with The Rock, and Cena says The Miz deserves to be WWE champion. Big “Cena Sucks!” chant is starting up, crowd is hot and smarky apparently tonight. Cena says he plans on making history at Wrestlemania to finish up the interview.

Michael Cole is back on the mic again, claiming to have another surprise for The King after the next commercial break. When we return Cole and Jack Swagger are in the ring together. Cole talks about the Brian Christopher incident last week and we get a video package of it again. Cole then decides to start making fun of The King’s dead father, showing old pictures on the Titan Tron from Jerry’s childhood, including a photo of him in his high school graduation gown with his father. Cole says he’s going to put Lawler in his place at ‘Mania. Cole says Lawler’s family is nothing but a bunch of losers and The King gets up, but Jack Swagger is there to stop him. King fights him off though and hits the ring chasing after Cole, but Swagger comes up from behind and hits him with a clothesline and then presses his face into the glass of Cole’s big glass box in classic bully fashion. Swagger gives King the ankle lock as we cut to commercial.

When we return from the break Cole apologizes for his actions and goes back into play-by-play mode…which just does NOT work man. And now we get a recap of Snooki on RAW last week. God, this is a smart-move business wise but holy shit is this going to be bad television. The WWE got a ton of publicity in the press though because of Snooki’s involvement.

John Morrison/Trish Stratus vs. Dolph Ziggler/Michelle McCool/Layla/Vickie Guerrero

This all starts out as Morrison vs. Ziggler in the beginning. Morrison is accompanied to the ring by Trish Stratus, and she does the whole slo-mo entrance thing with him and it looks better than it ever has with those two doing the slo-mo posing. This serves as a sort of preview of the 6 person match they’ve booked for Wrestlemania. Both men lock-up to start and Ziggler starts laying in fists. Morrison comes back with some forearms of his own in the corner until Dolph hits a big neckbreaker for a quick two count. Ziggler locks on a reverse chinlock briefly but Morrison fights out of it and delivers a big dropkick. He clotheslines Ziggler over the top and out to the floor and then goes to follow him out with a dive, but Michelle McCool stops him. Trish takes out McCool and the lights flicker as we have an anonymous e-mail from our general manager. The e-mail says that this match is now being changed into an inter-gender 4 on 2 tag team match with Morrison and Trish against Ziggler, LayCool and Vickie. Didn’t know you could just add people to matches as they’re happening, but okay, I’ll grade it all as one match. When we return Ziggler has Morrison back in that reverse chinlock as the crowd is getting fired up behind JoMo, who hits a big pele kick. He misses a knee and Ziggler tags Layla in, forcing Morrison to tag Trish in. Trish just runs in and starts handing out forearms to Layla before hitting the upside-down headscissors off the top on her. She lays in some big chops on Layla and the crowd is actually into this now. McCool kicks Trish in the back and then tags in, hitting a running knee on Trish. She starts hitting closed fists on her and then tries a pin attempt, but only for one. Trish hits a flying headscissors though but before she can get the tag to JoMo she’s dragged back into Dolph and LayCool’s corner. Layla tags back in and gets a quick two count. Vickie tags in now to but misses her one move and Morrison gets the tag, forcing Ziggler back in. Morrison gives Ziggler a few lariats and then hits a springboard sidekick to Ziggler’s head while Layla tosses Trish off the apron. Morrison misses the Starship Pain and Ziggler tosses him into the steel post and then hits the Zig-Zag, tagging Vickie in to get the 3 count on Morrison at 7:30 (shown). Call me crazy but this was actually sort of fun. Trish hit a few of her signature moves and looked comfortable in the ring for the first time since her return, Ziggler and Morrison had some nice work together, and the booking clicked as well. There may be hope yet for the six-person match come ‘Mania time. **½

Sin Cara promo. Can’t. Wait.

After a commercial break we get a little video package of some of the top guys talking about how ‘Mania time truly came in when Triple H and Undertaker’s feud started. Arn Anderson shares a few words as well, which is always good to hear. They get comments from everyone from John Morrison to Jim Ross to Stone Cold as this has actually become quite cool. Booker T even chimes in. And shit, here’s Harley Race. This is actually a damn good video package, probably the best one I’ve seen yet for this year’s Wrestlemania, though still nowhere near as good as the amazing packages for last year’s ‘Mania with the whole HBK/Taker package and Placebo’s “Running Up That Hill” playing in the background. Still, great video package here.

Randy Orton vs. Rey Mysterio

Damn, main event time already? Would you look at that. I do believe this is the first time these two have faced off since Orton’s babyface turn. Nice sequence to start with Rey hitting a few moves and Orton tossing Mysterio out of the ring like a horse shoe. Orton tosses Mysterio back into the ring quickly and gets a two count. Crowd has really cooled off for some reason. Orton applies a chinlock but Mysterio elbows out of it. Mysterio hits the seated senton off the top rope, but Orton comes right back at him with the quick powerslam. He goes for the second-rope elevated DDT but Rey counters and sends Orton into the ropes, setting him up for the 619, but Orton blocks it and then delivers the elevated DDT. Suddenly we hear “Hello Randall…” as CM Punk is on the Titan Tron now. Punk is at the big WWE bus from earlier and he says he can’t wait to meet Orton’s wife. This of course sends Randy running to the back, where the cameras follow him as he runs out to the bus in the parking lot and Punk attacks him from behind. Orton’s wife starts screaming for help a bit, and wow she’s pretty damn hot, who’s he married to again? Who knows. Punk has a steel wrench and kicks Orton in the head, referencing a Frank Sinatra song in the process and blowing a kiss to Randy Orton’s wife afterwards. So I guess that ends the match at a no contest. Too bad, it was good stuff while it lasted and would have hit atleast ** as it was before the no contest finish. No rating.

When we return Alex Riley is in the ring in a suit and tie, despite having been fired 3 weeks ago. He claims however that he was re-hired as the vice-president of corporate communications and introduces The Miz, who comes out to the ring and takes the mic from Riley. The Miz gloats about his Rock imitation and claims to have more charisma than Shawn Michaels and be more physically dominant than Andre the Giant as well as being the greatest WWE Champion ever. Oh I’ve heard that one before Mr. Miz. Miz says he’s going to re-write history and he does so….by revelaing the WWE title with a new design. It no longer spins and the W in the middle is instead flipped upside down as an M, standing for Miz obviously. Creative little design, hopefully this leads to a new World title belt design down the road. Suddenly John Cena is on the Titan Tron, live via satellite again. Suddenly however the set behind him starts being broken down and it’s revealed that Cena is actually in the building, as he has been all night long. Cena is fired up and hits the ring where he fights with Riley and Miz. Miz and Riley take the advantage at first but eventually Miz bails and leaves Riley alone in the ring, where Cena gives him the STF. We close out the show with a beaten down Alex Riley and a triumphant John Cena.

Bottom Line:
This was just a total filler show to get us through another week until The Rock comes back to Raw, and it showed. They could have at least thrown the viewers a bone and made this a wrestling-heavy show, but we didn’t get that either as the longest match of the night was the impromptu handicap inter-gender tag match and even that only got seven and a half minutes of TV time. Just a total filler show with nothing here worth seeking out, Thumbs Down.

Score: 3/10

@xfearbefore: You totally undersold the Punk/Orton segment. I agree with it being a lackluster show, but Punk mocking Orton's wife was absolutely priceless, and humiliating Orton in front of her is a vehicle for massive heat. Being humiliated in front of your wife/girlfriend is humbling in any circle, and insulting as hell. It made this feud ten times more personal, especially after blowing a kiss at her. And bloody hell, it's Dean Martin.

I enjoyed the segment also , but that was ortons 4th different wife that hes had. Kinda ruined it for me a little bit. She couldnt act that well either. She could have easily opened the door in punks face to stop him.

but why bother?

Other then Sheamus/Bryan and CM Punk Orton this was a very lackluster show with little to offer, sure the segments with Cole where decent but the was a lot of nit picking to be had with this show, such as when vickie pinned morriosn.... now the moment Gurrero was tagged in Trish surely should of been the legal woman in the match but apparently not...... yeahhh

The was nothing of note this week cept having Brayn Vs Sheamus added to the wrestlemania card *which along with mysterio rhodes could be fighting for match of the night* overall, lackluster in every way. 3/10

Terrible tonight. Very little actual wrestling, and I felt like I was watching a poorer version of the 3/14 episode, which honestly wasn't a very good one either and certainly not one worth making a lame copy of. Seriously, it felt like most of the same crap we saw last week only not as interesting. Stories did not progress in any meaningful way except a teaser for the inevitable 4 on 4 show/kane/koslov/santino vs. core match.

And come on, someone needs to breathe some life into this undertaker/HHH feud fast. I hear HHH music these days and I'm already bored. He comes out and he seems bored. Maybe it's just me but both HHH and undertaker's promos sound like they both don't really care about what they are talking about, just going through the motions for their promos because its expected.

And I'm sorry, but the punk orton bus thing was stupid. Anyone with a modicum of foresight could tell that if we actually have someone taking the time to interview orton about his tour bus of all things, there's not really much of a surprise with what would happen later. And just out of curiosity, why is it bad for punk to blow a kiss at orton's "wife" but it is now forgivable that not that long ago orton had HHH in handcuffs and licked an unconscious stephanie's face? That is far worse.

So anyway, all in all, I just felt like tonight did absolutely nothing for anyone, storyline wise or showing off real wrestling skill. Boring, and if I had paid money for a ticket, would have probably been really really disappointed.

I agree it was a good segment but the fact that Orton has a different wife every time is a little comical. I guess its typical wwe treating their audience like they are morons. Just like we are not suppose to remember that triple h vs undertaker already happened at WM.

This. I hate how they're acting as though this is some monumental event in WWE history that is an amazing privilege for everyone to see at 'Mania XXVII, when it's already fucking happened. My biggest concern is that HHH hasn't wrestled in almost a year and 'Taker hasn't had a match since October. This could end up being a colossal waste of everyone's time if they put on a bad one at WM. Beyond that, the promos have been boring and predictable, even forced. It's like they're going through the motions. I mean, someone telling The Undertaker that he will "rest in peace"? Never heard that before.

It was an okay show. Didn't need much wrestling as they build up to Wrestlemania. All the storylines were advanced and DiBiase got a little bit of screen time which is good even though he got destroyed by HHH. Looks like we may have a Corre vs. Santino/Kozlov/Kane/Show match developing. The new title belt was alright but nothing special but it kind of makes me want to see the Miz retain. I'll give the show a C.
