ECW 8\21\07
It was suprisingly good ECW except for the Extreme Rules which sucked except perhaps the end. Punk\Boogey vs. Morrison\Miz was long and good with good in-ring phchology without a shitty ending. The backstage segments were pretty good too with the McMahon angle seemingly breathing life into every brand and creating some funny backstage moments. My only beef is that why in the hell are Tazz and Joey are interviewing a vampire in Kevin Thorne. Just didn't make sense to me. The Balls\ Burke match was interesting and entertaining with good phycology and it looks like WWE is giving Balls a push into the spotlight now just like Stevie which is a good idea as they might as well be something other than a jobber for once in their WWECW career. I wasn't as upset with Balls beating Burke for a one time only thing to help him get over, thought they way it ended sucked, well, balls.
Grade: B

I Think ECW Is The Worst Now That It's Revived. I Mean, There Have Been Like What?, 4 Extreme Rules Matches And They Were For The Most Part Squash Matches And They Sucked Anyway. I Mean, Lets See, Hardcore Icon Raven Was Hardcore, Rhyno Was Hardcore, THE BOOGYMAN IS NOT HARDCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this past tuesdays ECW was good, the Punk Morrison match was the best one so far, there feud has been a bright spot for ECW. The Strike Boogeyman match was bad though, they both cant wrestle and their gimmicks are bad. The tag match with richards and dreamer versus Burke and Thorn was pretty decent and the Miz and Mahoney match was alright, just because of all the women, especially Kelly Kelly, Balls you are a lucky man.

I give it a B the title match was the best match out of them two so far. The bad was seeing big daddy V and the good was Kelly Kelly. Also i believe the bad was watching Dreamer and Richards getting there butts handed to them, even though they're to get younger talent over. All in a solid ECW and was this time a little more than i suspect every week. Maybe Punk as champion could be something to build off of.

I'm not going to run down the entire card, because in my opinion, the November 20th addition was great.. but the opening match.. C.M. Punk v. Kenny Dykstra.. was perhaps the best of the night.

Personally, I'd love for Kenny to get shipped along with Shelton, to E.C.W. I think Kenny Dykstra could make a serious run for the E.C.W. World Championship, just like John Morrison did when he shockingly won it. The match Kenny had with Punk was perfect, & renewed their old indy rivalry I've heard so much about.

I'm in love with the Smackdown/E.C.W. talent exchange, I think its allowing E.C.W. to become one of the best W.W.E. produced shows out of the 3.

The only thing I'm saddened by, is the *new look* Kevin Thorn. I realize that to be honest there isn't a LOT that changed. He's still creepy looking, but now he just has "I'm an enraged gay guy, looking for a rape victim" type of look. Unfortunately, Nunzio was the first victim of that.

Thorn almost LOOKS wreckless with his wrestling moves anymore, & I read that he was in the "doghouse" because he didn't protect one of his opponents, recently. If thats the case, tonight, when he delivered his "Original Sin" finishing move to Nunzio, it looked as if he just grabbed him by the neck, jerked him out & dropped him, without allowing Nunzio to set-up properly. I had such high hope for Thorn to be the next big thing, regarding a gothic type character.. but it looks like he'll be buried very quickly.

Pretty sad that ECW built toward WM about 10X better than RAW did....

12 Vs 12
Not half bad action, for what it was.Awesome seeing Elijah straight OWN someone LOL. Pretty good mulit man tag action, with a fun high flying spot. 7/10

Shelton VS Carlito
This was saved from the fire into something really good. I was sitting to myself wondering just exactly what the fuck was going on with these two, and why I was watching headlockathon 2008 with two of the more athletic guys in the promotion. But to be honest, the last 10 minutes of this is up there with The hardy Vs HBK, and Hardy Vs Jericho match, as the best action we have seen so far in 2008. I was...wait for it...ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT....during the last ten minutes, with the near falls. Excellent match outta these two. 8.5/10

Intergender match
Uuuuuummm YEA. Mike Knox got ahold of some STER muthafuckin OIDS. This dude put on what?? 30 pounds?? At least?? His fuckin HEAD got bigger LOL. The girls were totally laborious during this. 4/10

Chavo Vs Dreamer
Damn Dreamer can seriously barely move anymore. He is on the burger king roids apparently. BTW the live crowd tonight was absolute SHIT tonight. These guys could ran over each other with flaming barbed wire wrapped tanks and they wouldnt have popped. Anyway, semi OK match, probably wouldve been much better if dreamer wasnt fat as fuck. I hope he wins and takes the belt off of Chavo sunday, and from the looks of the ending of ECW (chavo won) It may just happen. 7/10

Very good build for the ECW portion of WM, and they showed the badass promo video for the triple threat match. Good show for ECW tonight id give it a solid B grade

Overall, good build up to WM, but the main event was way too short, although the result of Chavo winning cleanly was what they wanted.

I think its very disapppointing that the battle royal is going to be a dark match, that has just annoyed me so much. It would have been a nice addition to the card, and if done right, couldve added a lot of suspense and drama to the whole ECW title chase. Ah well, maybe they didnt have enough time on the card for it or something.

I hope Kane wins it, and goes on to becoming the new ECW champion.

just a thought

Amy’s ‘take’ on ECW 04/01/08: April Fools Day edition.

Opening Segment: After a video package highlighting Kane’s 24-man Battle Royal win and victory over Chavo, out comes our new ECW Champion Kane. It’s been awhile since Kane cut a promo and I think he has an underrated ability on the stick. He says he beat the other ‘monsters’ (Snitsky, Henry, Khali) to win Sunday’s Battle Royal and then he decimated Chavo in 8 seconds. Kane hypes the crowd, saying ECW has had some of the most exciting, spectacular, brutal moments in sports entertainment but we haven’t seen anything yet.

Cue Punk’s music and out comes Mr. MITB. Kane tells Punk he may have had a good night Sunday but tonight he won’t if he’s thinking of cashing in. Punk says he’s a little jealous of Kane but points out he can have a championship match any time he chooses.

Cue Chavo’s music. No one is getting an ECW title match before he gets his rematch. He calls Kane’s victory a fluke. He says he was attacked from behind because Kane can’t face him 1-on-1. Kane again reminds everyone he beat Chavo in a mere 8 seconds. Punk chimes in, making fun of Chavo for having one of the shortest matches in Mania history. Chavo says Punk won’t be laughing later tonight and announces our main event – Kane and Punk v. Chavo and Benjamin.

This brings out Shelton who says a “normal” man would be in the hospital after his 20 foot fall through a ladder two days earlier, but he isn’t a normal man - he’s the Gold Standard. Punk gets the last word, saying Benjamin can call himself Goldilocks or whatever else but one thing he can’t is MITB.

Match #1 Stevie Richards v. Mike Knox: First we’re shown video of Knox attacking Richards 3 weeks ago and then last week Richards returning the favor. The 4 minute match was nothing special. Knox dominated most of the match and picked up the win. Expect to see this feud continue a few more weeks. Each week Knox is looking better in the ring, but what’s with the Mountain Man look?

Colin Delaney Segment: The saga continues. Tazz asks Colin about his Mania experience. Colin says he didn’t get beat up for once because he didn’t have a match, but he’s still hopeful he’ll have a contract and a Mania match this time next year. Estrada interrupts with great news for Colin. He says Colin’s proven how badly he wants to be a WWE Superstar and presents him an “official” WWE contract. Colin is overjoyed; he can’t believe it! Estrada forgot to mention one little thing though – April Fools! Seriously, who didn’t see that one coming? Estrada says if Colin wants a contract, all he has to do is beat the next man coming out. Big Show’s music hits and just like that Colin is back at square one, looking like the defeated, scared to death kid we met three months ago.

Match #2 Big Show v. Colin Delaney: Show squashed Colin in record fashion, tossing him like “a lifeless Frisbee” per Styles’ commentary.

Match #3 (Main Event) Chavo/Benjamin v. Kane/Punk
: Well-worked match by all four but again nothing “great” here. I was just about ready to write Kane off as slow and over-the-hill, but the last couple weeks he's showing there is a little gas left in the tank. Kane and Punk with the early advantage took us to commercial break. When the match resumed, Benjamin and Chavo did a nice job with quick tags to isolate and work over Punk for the majority of the match. Punk finally rallied and got the hot tag to Kane. Punk on the apron is able to recover in seconds to tag himself in and pick up the win for his team.

Overall Thoughts: Somewhat disappointing post-Mania show at least wrestling wise. We basically got 2 quashes and 1 decent match yet several WrestleMania recaps as well as HOF Ceremony and Flair’s RAW Farewell video packages. Show seemed to be lacking some “star power” tonight without Kofi, Elijah, Morrison, and Dreamer. Best thing all night was the opening segment. In theory, the night should have been about Kane being the new champ. I wish they’d have let Kane have his moment where it was just about him. Instead we got Punk stealing the spotlight. At least the ECW main event scene looks promising for the coming weeks. We’ll see if they continue Benjamin’s push this time.

Meh, not a bad ECW, but ive certainley seen better.

Mike Knox Vs Stevie was....er...technically sound?? rather bland match, that was met with resounding apathy from the crowd. seemed like it went forever, when apparently it went only 4 minutes....I dont think thats a good thing...I like Knox's knew finisher, looks impactful..too bad they chose to give it to Mike fucking Knox....and what is the over/under on how many steroids Knox is taking?? 4?? 5???....a poll should be started...

Big Show utterly trounces Colin Delaney, to CHEERS lol. The big guy was pretty mercifull on poor colin. Now that this doesnt involve dreamer anymore, im rather weary of it.

Punk/Kane Vs Chavo/ Shelton
eh not the greatest, not the best. Most of the match is carried by Punk, who looked good tonight. Why the fuck are they having Kane cut promos like a regular dude?? He should be creeping around locker rooms destroying people. Only real positive tonight is we saw what was probably Sheltons BEST promo ever, and the possibility of a small feud over the MITB breifcase. hopefully I will get my punk/shelton match at Backlash after all :)

....and what is the over/under on how many steroids Knox is taking?? 4?? 5???

We may very soon find out the answer to that very question. Today the main site has been following a story of a stash of steroids found in the former Georgia home of Mike Hettinga (ECW’s Mike Knox). He has denied the drugs are his, however some official WWE papers with his name were found with the substances.

According to tonight’s Official ECW Preview (http://www.wwe.com/shows/ecw/preview/6349664/), we can expect to see Mike Knox in action against Stevie Richards again. I wonder if those plans might just change. With the heat on WWE about steroids, I think they may err on the side of caution and pull Knox from TV until the police investigation is complete. We shall see shortly...I'll be back later with a recap!

BROTHERS OF DESTRUCTION, next week!!!

I can't wait. I had a feeling this is the direction they were going in when they had KANE win the ECW title. This brand is starting to get some clout.

I haven't yet watched E.C.W. tonight, but if they built anything around Kane and The Undertaker on E.C.W. then Kane being their World Champion is already paying off. You ever wonder if Undertaker's ever heard of E.C.W. before this. :p :lmao: (for those stupid enough to not see the joke, yes I know hes been on the show before)

I did read something about Colin Delaney winning his contract over Tommy Dreamer, which results in Dreamer being fired. If this is true, I'm going to be pissed if Dreamer actually will be taken off television via this storyline.

Well you might want to watch it on wwe.com, they taped the match twice, once they have Delaney winning, the other Dreamer wins, so it depends which one they put on the show. I missed the show too, pissed, usually watch ECW, but will probably catch it tomorrow.

Anybody else impressed with Morrison tonight? I was cracking up. He almost points out a kid in the audience to make fun of, he calls Punk "more overrated than those Ric Flair tribute videos" (THANKFULLY someone says it lol I'm so sick of those videos with that over-sappy song), puts over his tag team partner, and is very convincing in his reaction to getting thrown out of the scene. Solid match by the Miz as well, and oddly enough, it almost seemed like Miz was carrying Punk. You wouldn't think the guy with the MITB would be carried.

This episode would've been better if they had replaced that Burke/Nunzio match with something a little more interesting. As soon as you announce Nunzio, why bother having the match? I've yet to see Nunzio even get a 2-count on someone, let alone a win.

Finally someone else gets it. Don't let too many people read you consider Morrison to be anything more than a piece of shit, you might get flamed, bad mouthed, or worse.

While I can't agree with the tribute videos being horrible (I loved the fuel song) I must agree that when they make one (tribute vid) they do overplay the shit out of them. The part of Morrison's comments I enjoyed the most is how he ego-selfishly accepts that hes better than The Miz, and goes on to claim him and Miz have the understanding that hes the better of the two.

He even went on to refer to Miz as the Cleveland Hat (something) and Taz said "Steamer" to which Morrison replied with "That too." :lmao: The guy is classic on the mic, and shouldn't be drowning in a tag team.

Solid match by the Miz as well, and oddly enough, it almost seemed like Miz was carrying Punk. You wouldn't think the guy with the MITB would be carried.

Again, don't let too many people see you claiming Punk isn't anything less than God lately. :disappointed: Seriously, I just don't see it anymore. I have no clue whats so great about this guy, let alone why hes being built to be next in line for a Heavyweight Championship. (not E.C.W.) I think everyone jumping on Punk needs to realize he would've been just another jobber in that match had Hardy not screwed up.

Nunzio is an okay talent, hes just horribly misused anymore. Burke unfortunately gets stuck with it too. In the original E.C.W. Little Guido (Nunzio) was one of the better midcard talents to watch because he was a great technical guy. Unfortunately, W.W.E. fans don't attach to him because to them hes just some small loser.

As far as him never getting a 2-count, you must of missed when he carried the Cruiserweight division a while back. (been about 2 years now, I think lol)

I totally agree about Punk. I've been saying it here, and on another board. He's sloppy. He kicks ok, but that's it. I think he's going to get someone hurt one of these days. Tonight, even the GTS looked bad, and that's supposed to be his signature move! I hope he somehow loses the briefcase.

Does anyone know who Chavo's guy was?

My DVR cut off the end of ECW, so I don't know what happened in the match, but as much as I hate ths story line (I.e. Nunzi has a job, so there's no room for Delaney as JTTS) I do want to see it resolved in a satisfactory way.

Brothers of Destruction = Awesome!!! They could fart the phone book, but as long as they both get their entrances, I'm good.

NorCal's NightCap for ECW

Rather enjoyable ECW, with a pretty damn good, dramatic match to cap things off.

Fairly good opener, featuring Punk, and The Miz. this match showcased why BOTH Miz and Morrison should be doing something more than wallowing in this tag team and getting squashed by the Great Kahli. Miz put on a very good preformance, and this dude has improved LOADS since his debut, and has pretty good heel charisma. And Morrison just has "star" written on him, and showed some very good mic work tonight. Punk didnt do too bad either, but im not sure if he is living up to holding that case. I maybe forsee Shelton taking that off of him, to maybe loose it to a certain returning "rainbow haired warrior". Just a possible scenario I can see, unless Mcmahon is utterly adamant about pushing punk.

Big mark out moment for an Elijah Burke squash :) either he really legit hurt Nunzio, or they totally fucked up the finish, im leaning towards the latter. Elijah waits for Nunzio to get up for the elijah express, aaannnnnd Nunzio never gets up. And when Burke goes over to pick up Nunzio for his STO-type finisher, he has to totally pull him up for reals. Me thinks Nunzio was a tad concussed. That can happen when you only wrestle 10 matches per year....

A match featuring two guys im really high on, was next, as Kofi Kingston took on Domino, from D&D. Kofi's offense is innovative, but he is very very choppy with it, and obviously still green. But he is doing a very good job getting over, especially with the small children, as a small "kofi" chant broke out during the match tonight. I also really like Domino, and I think with a repackage later, he could be a big time player. He has great charisma, and a great look, and rarely if ever botches anything, and is a DAMN good seller. belive it or not, probably one of the top ten sellers IN WWE right at the moment, from were I sit.

Tommy Dreamer and Colin Delany finished the night with a VERY sound, entertaining "Career Vs Contract" match, That dreamer prevailed in. Colin got in some very good looking high flying offense, and sold all of Dreamers offense very well, as Dreamers tree of woe dropkick looked VERY impressive. Cool to see Dreamer pick up a solid clean victory for once.

Very good ECW tonight. I really like the way ECW is booked from week to week, as it has sort of an old school wrasslin show feel to it. And it looks like they are really trying to put some effort into ECW now, as the BOD will be making a visit next week.

Cleveland Hat Master, I think it was. And yeah, Nunzio's title reign was during a time that I wasn't watching wrestling. He's not a bad wrestler, I just haven't ever seen him get a 2-count since I've been back as a viewer. Burke I'm hoping goes to feud for the IC title after the draft, cause I agree with you that he's being grossly misused when he could be a solid midcarder.

But yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about the Punk-suspiciousness thing. Once he cashes it in and wins a belt, everyone will change their mind and hate him. I don't hate the guy, I just think he's currently overrated and he should be a solid IC/US champ for 2008 and then get a promotion in 09. Morrison, I feel, is one good feud away from the main event. You put him in with HBK for a little while and I think he'll walk out solid world champion material.

Amy’s ‘take’ on ECW 04/08/08 edition:

At the start, we’re told there will be a contract signing for Kane and Chavo’s rematch at Backlash. Contract signings are one of the most predictable, boring, and waste of time segments ever IMHO. So the real question is: Would it be Chavo or Kane put through a table?

Match #1 The Miz v. CM Punk: Match of the night and due in large part to Miz. Match went longer than I expected. Punk allowed himself to be distracted by John Morrison at ringside; the ref ejected Morrison before the commercial break. After some initial back and forth, Miz gained control until the last 30 seconds when Punk pulled out a kick to the head, corner high knee, and signature GTS to get the win. What are they doing with Punk? He hasn’t exactly been made to look the strongest following his MITB win. He lost to Jericho last week on RAW and this week barely comes away with a win against the Miz who continues to look better and better.

Backstage Segment #1: Colin’s saga continues. Delaney with Dreamer interrupts GM Estrada, asking for another opportunity to earn a contract. Estrada says he is very busy and no one is going to give Colin anything. Dreamer says Colin wants to earn it. Estrada says this is all very touching and agrees to gives Colin another chance – all he has to do is beat his good friend Tommy. There’s just one nasty little stipulation – if Dreamer loses he’s out of ECW.

I’ve been wondering when we were going to see these two pitted against each other, but why now, why this night? Where is the build? Maybe they were going for surprise/shock value, but I think they should have announced this match last week to create interest, build anticipation.

Contract Signing Segment: Estrada introduces Chavo who comes to the ring with the Edgeheads in tow. Kane is out next. Did Estrada seem a little too excited to be on the mic? Chavo made himself comfortable, propping his feet on the table which Kane pushed off. The two got in each other’s face. Estrada regained order telling everyone to have some decorum and take a seat.

We’re told that both men reviewed the contract earlier in the day. Kane signs first. Chavo says he is signing away the ECW Championship. Kane laughs because Chavo is awfully cocky for someone who lost in 8 seconds at WrestleMania. Chavo again claims Kane cheated by attacking him from behind, but he assures us that won’t happen again as he will have someone watching his back at Backlash.

Cue the entrance music and out comes the unidentified someone who’ll be in Chavo’s corner (Justin "The Ox" LaRouche, former OVW talent). Kane is distracted, allowing the Edgeheads and Chavo to attack him. After the 4 on 1 beat down, Chavo hits the frog splash on Kane through the table. Chavo happily signs the contract.

Match #2 Nunzio v. Elijah Burke: Nunzio got crazy height on that backdrop in the beginning. Burke looked good in this squash, but geez he looked frustrated…wonder if that will lead somewhere. We feel ya Elijah…can we say wasted talent?

Backstage Segment #2: Layla interrupts Kelly Kelly and Eve backstage, saying there’s only room for one Diva Search winner – her. Kelly says Eve has something to tell them. Layla continues, saying yes they’re real, no she’s never dated him, and yes she is the top diva on ECW. Hmm, we never did find out what Eve had to say. Meh, does anyone really care?

Match #3 Domino v. Kofi Kingston: Four minute match, nice back and forth. Kofi seems to be settling down more each time he’s in the ring and remains undefeated.

Before the bell, we saw a taped Kofi promo. I think this is the first since before he debuted. He said that in Jamaica they always like to party and have a good time, and when he steps into the arena he wants to bring that same good vibration, that Jamaican flavor, to all the fans. Hmm, is it me or is that type of promo not going to cut it for very long? He also really needs a feud already instead of random opponents.

Match #4 (Main Event) Delaney v. Dreamer: Estrada is ringside to ensure Dreamer doesn’t “take it easy” on Delaney. Four minute match dominated by Dreamer although Delaney did manage a couple aerial moves. That was one sick, sweet Tree of Woe dropkick followed by the Dreamer DDT. Dreamer gets the pin then checks on Colin whose contract hopes are crushed again. Estrada just claps and smiles. Could the crowd have been any less interested? That’s what happens without any build.

Overall Thoughts: Better show in every regard than last week. Anyone else notice that everyone that came out first lost? No Mike Knox as I expected. With Knox pulled from TV, what does this mean for Stevie Richards’ push? No Shelton either this week. Best and funniest thing all night was Morrison's commentary. Shame he wasn’t in singles action.

Amy’s ‘take’ on ECW 04/15/08 edition (from England):

At the start, we are told that longtime ECW commentator Joey Styles is leaving his broadcast duties behind to head up wwe.com. Shock and despair set in. Now I don’t begrudge anyone an opportunity to better himself, but I will miss Styles. He was one of the reasons I’ve continued watching the ECW ‘brand’. Mike Adamle replaces Styles and this was his first night on the job. Without turning this into an Adamle bash, I'll leave it at this: I sure hope he improves and fast as he made a lot of mistakes Tuesday night. Hopefully Tazz can pick up the slack.

Match #1 CM Punk, Jimmy Wang Yang, Shannon Moore, & Kofi Kingston vs. Elijah Burke, Deuce, Domino, & Shelton Benjamin: I’m not a big fan of eight-man tag matches personally. With the exception of Survivor Series, they generally serve little purpose other than to give a lot of guys a few minutes of TV time. That sure was a lot of young talent in one ring and it was a decent match for what it’s worth. Punk, Burke, and Yang did most of the work in this one. Yang has one sweet dropkick. Kofi got the hot tag and picked up the win for the faces with his buzzsaw kick.

Note: Let’s hope Adamle isn’t going to say ‘Jamaican me crazy’ every time from now on when Kofi does his ‘boop boop’ thing because that’s going to get old fast.

Backstage Kane Promo
: Following a video recap of last week’s contract signing/beatdown by Chavo and company, Kane (with Taker at his side) says Chavo made a grave mistake and awakened the monster within. Tonight the monster will be unleashed again and tag champs Mix and Morrison will face their destruction – the Brothers of Destruction that is. Evil laugh takes us to commercial break.

Divas Dance-off featuring Layla, Maryse, Eve, Lena Yada, & Kelly Kelly: We could have had a divas tag-team match, ya know that thing called wrestling, that would have been something different for a change. Instead we get like the 100th dance show. Bless Tazz because he made this one entertaining at least. Somebody get Maryse and Lena a pole already! No surprise crowd ‘favorite’ Kelly Kelly won. Her idea of dancing is taking off her jacket. Layla was robbed again.:disappointed:

Match #2 Mike Knox vs. Colin Delaney: Originally, this match pitted Tommy Dreamer against Knox, however Estrada is still having his fun with Dreamer and Delaney. He came out after the introductions to mock the duo, saying the fans wanted to see a competitive match where Knox takes on a ‘future world champion’ (e.g., Delaney:lmao:). Dreamer was told to take the night off and leave. So Knox is back on TV after a one-week hiatus following the steroid story and apparently he’s still getting pushed. He squashes Colin in one minute. Delaney remains contract-less.

Backstage Miz/Morrison Promo: Miz says that Kane and Taker have had issues for years and only two weeks ago beat the hell out of each other. He and Morrison have a stronger brotherhood than the Brothers of Destruction. Tonight their strategy is divide and conquer. Morrison says they are out to prove ECW is their yard and Miz will start tonight’s match and the revolution. Nice promo even if it was a lot of unbelievable crap.

Match #3 (Main Event) Miz/Morrison vs. Kane/Undertaker: A well-worked match by all four that was given more time (12 minutes) than I expected, so at least it wasn’t a squash. Morrison’s facial expression was priceless, as if to say ‘OMG what did I just do?’, when he hit Taker with a sudden clothesline preventing his classic leg drop onto Miz on the apron. Miz/Morrison effectively isolated Kane in their corner and worked over his knee for a good part of the match. Finally Taker got the hot tag, Kane and Taker hit stereo chokeslams, and Morrison fell victim to the Tombstone Piledriver.

I’m not sure what purpose other than a possible ratings boost this one served. Not to take anything away from Taker or Kane, but Miz and Morrison have become solid in-ring performers and had a good run as tag champs. Plus Morrison is a former ECW champ. I feel they deserve a little better than being squashed by Show one week then buried by Taker and Kane the next.

Note: Someone please tell Adamle not to call Miz and Morrison M and M, MNM, MNM2, or any other dumb variation in the future.

Overall Thoughts: I don’t think Taker helped ECW’s ratings as some may have been hoping. It was a ‘light’ show wrestling wise given the Delaney squash and dancing contest. The show also did little in way of building to Backlash. I sincerely hope next week’s show is better in that regard considering it’s the last ECW before the PPV. Another reason I hope it’s a better show is that I will be there to see it in person!!!:icon_mrgreen:

NorCal's NightCap

ECW was decent this week, not too great for a London show though.

Night started off with a half decent 8 man tag. Im glad I wasnt the only one who noticed Kofi Kingstons total ownership of CM Punk in this one. Punk got what, about 2 minutes of in ring work during this match?? And THIS is the guy carrying the breifcase?? REALLY??? Anyway decent contest. glad to see Elijah and Shelton (and my boy Domino) get some good time.

WHY in the fucking WORLD would you select the one hour long show to have a fucking diva dance off on??? :disappointed:

Mike Knox whips the shit outta Colin Delaney. Whatever. Lets thrwo his ass on Backlash, and get this shit over with. He is smaller than the rest of the guys, and therefore fairly ineffective in the ring. We fucking get it.

Miz and Morrison put on a fairly good match with Taker and Kane. Everyone knew they didng have a damn chance ever, but they did pretty good nontheless, and im glad WWE let them get a lot of good offense in. Morrison sold the tombstone very well. Yay for Tag champs being virtually squashed two weeks in a row.

Amy’s ‘take’ on ECW 04/22/08 edition:

Match #1 Kelly Kelly & Tommy Dreamer vs. Layla & Mike Knox
: Match seemed rushed and sloppy, thankfully it was short (3 mins. if you count what happened after the bell). *Sigh* just when I thought Kelly was showing signs of improvement. I don’t get it – Knox was the one under suspicion of steroids, yet it’s Stevie Richards who’s been off TV the last 3 weeks. Likewise, I don’t think they can make up their minds what to do with Dreamer these days. His tag to Kelly was a little too eager and then Knox took him out like he was Delaney (who was absent tonight) after Kelly pinned Layla.
  • Video Segment: 3 presidential candidates cutting wrestling promos.
Match #2 John Morrison vs. Jimmy Wang Yang (w/Shannon Moore): Instead of their 20th tag match, guess they’re going to give us 1-on-1 matches involving these 4 now. Decent 3-minute match. Morrison’s athleticism compensated for a little sloppiness on Yang’s part. Miz’s commentary was entertaining. He did a good job plugging his partner and himself while making fun of Shannon Snore, Jimmy Yo-Yo, and the “legendary” Mike Adamle. Yang surprised everyone by pinning Morrison. After the match, Miz got in Morrison's face yelling “You just lost” to which Morrison quipped “Thank you Captain Obvious” LOL. Is this the beginning of the end of Miz and Morrison’s reign as tag team champions?

Backstage: Shelton interrupts Kofi warming up. Kofi’s all smiles as he tells Shelton it’s the two of them tonight. He says “may the best man win.” Shelton, looking very confident, says Kofi is undefeated but “that ends tonight.” Short, simple, effective segment.

Match #3 Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton Benjamin: Match of the night. Both looked strong. I know they are pushing Kofi, but I can’t help feel it was wrong he defeated Shelton in such a short (4 min.) first contest between the two. Guess Benjamin’s push has stalled again.
  • Video Segment: HBK/Batista review and hype for their Backlash match.
  • Video Segment: Hillary vs. Barack from Monday Night RAW.
Match #4 Nunzio vs. Mark Henry (Main Event!?!?): Back from commercial break. Their entrances didn’t make the cut yet they replay Barack vs. Hillary? *Technically* this is the main event match and it’s a 1-minute pointless squash. Why kind of crap is this? Nunzio vs. Delaney would have been more entertaining.

Backstage: Why is Kane smiling?
  • Video Segment: Highlights of the European tour.
The Cutting Edge: Edge with the Edgeheads comes to the ring and introduces his guest Kane who doesn’t want to sit. Edge says many consider the Brothers of Destruction the most dominant family of the last two decades and their parents must be proud. That provokes Kane. He says his parents are dead and Edge will be too if he mentions them again. Kane tells Edge he’s taken him out before and he’ll do it again. Edge says to settle down and reminds him he agreed to be his guest on his show where the tough questions are asked.

Edge says Kane’s life sucks right now. Edge should have just flat out said that being ECW Champion means nothing. He brings up Kane’s dysfunctional childhood where he thought he was burned in a fire his brother set, the years he wore a mask to cover his emotional scars, his failed relationships with one woman he won’t mention (Katie Vick) and Lita who left him for Edge after she lost their baby.

Edge says Kane’s been an integral part of his life – first by ruining his wedding to Lita then later injuring and costing him his world title – but it was all a blessing in disguise because he met Vicki. Kane can’t believe Edge is thanking him for that! Edge says Zach and Curt are like their sons, Chavo is like his nephew, and Bam Neely is like the second cousin he’s just getting to know. *Corny* Edge says Kane and Taker have stolen their most valuable family heirlooms but at Backlash they will reclaim the ECW and World Heavyweight belts.

Kane says at Backlash he’s going to destroy Chavo and Bam and his brother will handle Edge and his sons. Kane says Vicki will be left all alone but he and Taker will take real good care of her. Evil laugh. What does Kane have in mind for Vicki? Maybe that’s why he was smiling. This infuriates Edge. It quickly becomes a 5-on-1 beatdown as Chavo and Bam join in. The other four hold down Kane while Chavo delivers several chair shots to Kane’s knee.

Show ends with Kane lying helpless in pain in the ring. Chavo gets the upper hand heading into Sunday’s rematch so I don’t expect him to win the title back.

Overall Thoughts: I had expectations for a great show with it being the last before Backlash and because I was there in person. It was a night of short, unspectacular matches and loads of video segments though. Show did a good job building La Familia vs. The Brothers of Destruction on Sunday and teased a possible Miz/Morrison break-up and new tag champs in the future. Overall, the show didn’t live up to my expectations.

Amy’s ‘take’ on ECW 04/29/08 edition:

Match #1 Shelton Benjamin vs. Kofi Kingston
: Before the bell, Shelton said that Kofi’s win last week was a fluke and his luck is about to run out. I get that Kofi’s supposed to be this cool, easygoing character, but when he smiles like that it comes across he’s not very bright and/or not taking his opponent seriously, which is annoying.

Tazz and Adamle did a better job this week selling this story. They really played up that Shelton was embarrassed last week and looking for payback. They questioned whether Kofi would be able to beat Shelton again in tonight’s re-match. Shelton was a one man show in this one - the match of the night IMO; he was very physical in the ring and just looked intense. He dominated until the last 15 seconds when Kofi from out of nowhere landed his buzzsaw kick and pinned Shelton.

Smackdown Preview: 3 title matches this Friday - Matt Hardy will defend the US Championship, Miz and Morrison will defend the Tag Team Championship, and Taker will defend the World Heavyweight Championship.

*Back from commercial break, Adamle sang a coupe lines of “Under the Boardwalk.” First Murdoch now this!?!

Match #2 Tommy Dreamer (w/Colin Delaney ringside) vs. Mike Knox: Knox looks like he added a few more pounds since last week. Guess this match was made following the ending of last week’s mixed tag match. Squash of the night. During the match, Knox also attacked Delaney. This makes two weeks in a row that Knox has owned Dreamer now. Where exactly are they heading with these two?

Matt Striker’s Classroom: Striker said that while we’re getting acclimated to the “commentary stylings” of Mike Adamle on ECW, Smackdown fans will be getting used to his guest's voice. Mick Foley came out and said it’s great to be back in an ECW ring. Striker said he had a lesson for Foley. He said we’re all used to Foley as an in-ring performer. Foley interrupted to plug his two NY Times #1 bestsellers. Striker told Foley if didn’t have to appear on camera, he’d be perfect for the commentator job but his is a radio face. He pointed out Foley’s gap-tooth smile, long hair covering his missing ear, and being out of shape. He said Mick looks like he just rolled out of his dorm room after smoking the pot, LOL.

Foley said he likes the way he looks because it signifies all he sacrificed to entertain the fans. Foley got in a cheap pop mentioning Atlantic City and his testicular fortitude. Striker said Smackdown has some of the best technical wrestlers and questioned whether Mick knows the difference between a Northern Lights Suplex and the Northern State Parkway, a Boston Crab from a Boston Crème Pie, an armbar and an armoire. Foley said he had a lesson of his own for Striker. He reached into his sweatpants, whipped out Mr. Socko, took Striker down with the mandible claw, and said “Class dismissed. Have a nice day.”

Foley tossed the sock to Adamle to have Tazz shove it in his mouth. Adamle laughed it off saying a lot of the fans would like him to keep it in his mouth. I couldn’t help thinking enough with the Adamle cracks already. Adamle may suck, but he’s a good sport for taking all the jokes and criticism and being so self-effacing about it.

*Backlash video package aired.

Match #3 CM Punk vs. Chuck Palumbo: Palumbo shoved Punk’s face before the bell. He dominated Punk most of the match. His aggression got him DQ’ed. Punk tried to fight back after the bell, but Palumbo beat him down again. Just an all-around crap match, a waste of time.

Someone please tell me what are they doing with Punk. He’s Mr. MITB. They have him look strong in the KOTR then he had a great match with Edge last week, and now they not only put him in a match with Chuck F’N Palumbo but have him get beatdown by this guy of all people.

* Raw Rebound video package.

Match #4 Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero & Bam Neely in a Handicap Match (Main Event): Bam came to wrestle in a suit and tie? Before Kane’s entrance, Adamle stopped speaking mid-sentence, took off his headset and walked away. Post-Backlash match. Kane was the aggressor early on. Bam pulled Chavo outside to regroup 1 minute into the match. Tazz plugged Judgment Day then he took off his headset and left. Back from commercial break, the match continued with no announcers. *Weird* Match was blah with lots of punches, kicks, and clotheslines. We didn’t really see anything impressive from Bam in his ECW wrestling debut. He and Chavo tagged well and worked over Kane’s knee. Just when Kane was in charge and going for a chokeslam on Chavo, Bam took out his knee again. Chavo hit the frog splash for the pinfall.

Overall Thoughts: At least tonight’s show wasn’t as predictable as it has been recently (what with Punk’s poor booking and the announcers leaving). However this show was from the Land of the Lame and Boring. I hope they redeem themselves next week on the 100th episode of ECW. There’s going to be a party and confirmed matches are Dreamer/Knox under Extreme Rules and Estrada/Delaney for a WWE contract.

NorCal's NightCap

Fucking A. way to get rid of a fucking sweet push. bye bye shelton benjamin. I expect seeing Elijah Burke job to Kofi next. Is this truly necessary??? couldnt have put palumbo in this situatioin?? ANYONE else besides shelton?? eh. pretty good match between these two. Althought they are trying to make me hate Kofi.

Tom Dreamer and Mike "HGH" Knox have ANOTHER match. WWE's new slogan should be "drive shit into the ground until you absolutely fucking hate it"......Im sorta feelin Knox tho. Id like seeing some character development, and seeing him better utilized. The extreme rules match next week might be sweet. Id love to see em go really absolutely crazy.

An absolutely useless Strykers class happens. The only possible good use I saw maybe coming outta this was the return of Big V to brutalize Foley, but of course, fuck no that didnt happen. Foley socko's Stryker. I guess Foley needs to be more over

YES!!! the best part of tonight was the absolute bucket of shit we got from Palumbo and CM Punk...gee, Punk sure is rocketing to the moon with that briefcase!!!!! And to think SOMEONE in WWE really thinks this will be a FEUD to be ran with??? :lmao: !!!! Awesome. Absolutely awesome. I wait with baited breath.

Chavo and Bam went against Kane in a handi cap match. for fucking goodness sakes, could this NOT have ended with two decisive victories by Kane??? They want to use CHAVO against Kane, when this could be a great spot for Shelton, Elijah, of hell, even either Hawkins or Ryder to be going against Kane for the title?? really WWE?? really??

LOL and then of course we have the adamle walk out. One of the bigger :wtf: moments in recent memory. too bad its a work, itd been funny as fuck if it had been real.

TheOneBigWill's 'take' on E.C.W. April 29th, 2008:

The Matches:

1. Shelton Benjamin v. Kofi Kingston: In a rematch from the week prior, Benjamin jumps quickly on the mic to point out how last week was more or less a fluke and it won't happen again. Unfortunately, I had the pleasure of reading the spoilers mere minutes before the show to know it indeed DID.. happen again.

My thoughts on this are very simply. Shelton is being used as nothing more than a jobber, and surprisingly and oddly enough, Elijah Burke wasn't (to my knowledge) used first. I really enjoy watching Benjamin v. Kingston, as these two could put on a very solid Pay Per View type match that would by all means steal the show.

I love Kingston, although if I have to hear him called "Kofi Kofi" one more time, I don't think I'll have an issue with no announcers. I think this guy has the makings of a solid wrestler with a unique style. Which by W.W.E. standards means he'll be jobbing to Punk in about two weeks for practically no reason at all.

2. Mike Knox v. Tommy Dreamer: Apparently another return match, from what my counterparts have written about above me?? I think I knew about Knox taking on Delaney instead of Dreamer.. maybe thats what I'm thinking of? Who knows. At any rate this match wasn't anything huge to me. Knox gets the victory, and its later announced that for their 100th episode they'll have an extreme rules match.

My thoughts on this are that quite possibly the W.W.E. is building Mike Knox to be a weird version of C.W. Anderson, in which they're hoping a very hardcore "extreme rules" match will turn out next week. The only problem with this, to me, is that Anderson had talent.. whereas Knox can only find it in a needle.

3. C.M. Punk v. Chuck Palumbo: Mr. Money in the Bank! WOOOO! Seriously, did I NOT call this match no less than a week ago? This crap is so pointless and I have no idea why they're not only dragging Punk through the mud, but also the honor of being an uncrowned Number One Contender to ANY World Heavyweight Championship in the company.

At this rate, Punk isn't even showing that he could be the number one contender to the Women's Championship, or either of the midcard Championships, let alone the Heavyweight ones. Seriously, he couldn't even win this match and was handed his ass through most of it. He picked up a victory, because the official felt sorry for him.

My thoughts are that Punk will drop the case, similar to Mr. Kennedy last year.. the only difference being.. Kennedy had to drop it due to an injury. Punk's only "injury" is lack of talent.

The Promos:

Striker's Classroom: Mick Foley: So the point to this was to show everyone who didn't order Backlash, who also doesn't have access to a computer, that Mick Foley is Smackdown's newest announcer. Yay.

My only question is.. who'd it really reach out and touch? Do you honestly think if those out there who didn't order Backlash, and don't own or check wrestling rumors on a computer.. are really watching the 3rd rate show of the company?? Hardly.

I can't say I feel sorry for Striker, because I'm shocked the guy hasn't found the unemployment line. He holds roughly no talent, and while hes above average on the mic.. without a big bodied wrestler to manage, hes basically useless.

Main Event: Handicap Match: Chavo Guerrero & Bam Neely v. Kane: Judgment Day's Main Event comes earlier. Interesting. Okay, so I had previously predicted this as being the World Championship match for the next Pay Per View.

Obviously its instead been used as a way to once again allow Chavo "cruiserweight" Guerrero, to remain in the spotlight against the E.C.W. (non-cruiser) Heavyweight Champion, Kane. This is apparently the downside to having Kane as World Champion. E.C.W. only had Big Daddy V as a rival big guy.. and the entire rest of the roster, short of Bam Neely, are cruisers.

I'm sick of Chavo. Vickie doesn't control E.C.W., so why is Estrada handing repeated title shots out to Chavo. (okay, so its not yet official that Chavo will once again get another shot.. but he holds a pinfall victory over the Champion, so it'd be hard not to see it coming)

Overall Thoughts: What can I truly say? The best match of the night was Benjamin/Kingston. The worst was Dreamer/Knox. And thats not even saying Punk/Palumbo was good, thats just showing you how much I truly dispise Knox.

Foley returning in some fashion, even as an announcer only means that by Wrestlemania 27 he'll be returning to the ring in a high profile feud. I suppose it'll be nice to see Foley, or hear him rather..

I have no clue what to say about next week's 100th episode. Delaney will finally (most likely) win his contract, after defeating Estrada. I'm curious who booked that, as I doubt Estrada is cocky enough to .. never mind, he managed Umaga, I'm sure he feels he can bulldoze the 3rd grader. Meanwhile, Knox v. Dreamer in a rarely seen "extreme rules" match on a show dubbed "Extreme Championship Wrestling." Shocking.

My only thought on that, is if they aren't going to claim to be what E.C.W. basically was. Why not change the "Extreme" portion to "Entertainment?" Or "Exciting?" (sure, its neither of those things.. but its hardly "extreme" so its not like they're lying any less.)

Finally, Adamle walking out was f*cking hilarious! All I heard was Adamle trying to push Chavo and suddenly stop talking.. as if to say.. "F*ck this, they know I suck because I'm trying to promote a cruiserweight over a monster, not even J.R. could sell this shit, I'm quit." and he got up and walked the f*ck out! Naturally, the greatness continued as Tazz called out his name twice.. acted dumb-founded, plugged Judgment Day, then left as well.

What'd this result in? Me sitting at home, talking to myself so I could add my own brand of commentary. And let me tell you.. I was GREAT! Overall, average show. Great opening match, confusing ending. Better than Raw from a couple weeks back. lol

Amy’s ‘take’ on ECW 05/06/08 - 100th Episode on Sci-Fi:

Tazz welcomed us and said he walked off last week in support of his announce partner. Mike Adamle was introduced. He said lost his cool last week and apologized to Tazz and the great ECW fans. He’s been a broadcaster longer than most watching have been alive and ran down his background as a player in the NFL for 7 years then covering it for 9 years as well as 4 Olympics and of course being the host of American Gladiators. Admale admitted he’s made mistakes and didn’t realize how hard this job really was. He plugged the great ECW fans again and said he loves the WWE and working for the ECW. He promised to bring us the best possible product and hyped the great ECW fans again. Adamle thanked us for listening and said to enjoy the 100th episode even if we despise him.

So he didn’t turn heel as some anticipated. He came across a little phony but seemingly wants to improve. His explanation and apology sure didn’t live up the surprise and suspense they created with last week’s walk-off. Basically all he did was suck up to the fans that continued to boo and chant “You Suck” during his speech. Sure his list of accomplishments sound impressive, but what do they have to do with his ability to call a wrestling match? And enough already, what’s with him calling everything “the”? From now on, I’m going to refer to him as The Adamle…somehow it seems fitting.;)

Match #1 Tommy Dreamer vs. Mike Knox (Extreme Rules): Stevie Richards sat in on commentary for this match and did a good job. Dreamer wearing a Toronto Blue Jays jersey (they’re in Canada after all) came out with a shopping cart of weapons. Fun opening 6-minute match, and yes I’m calling this the Match of the Night IMHO. Early on, Knox hit Dreamer with a baking sheet and nice vertical suplex. After a dropkick to Knox on the outside, Dreamer used a hockey stick, kendo stick, and boat oar. Dreamer finally got the shopping cart over the top rope into the ring – only for Knox to body slam him onto it. Then Knox went to the top rope. It’s not like he’s all of a sudden going to bust out a moonsault. I guess they couldn’t come up with a more creative way so Dreamer could set him up for the Tree of Woe. Tommy landed his patent running dropkick onto the shopping cart and trash can he’d placed in front of Knox. Dreamer next set up a table in the opposite corner – only for Knox to belly to back suplex him through it (mark out moment right there). Knox pinned Dreamer following his finisher onto a steel chair. (First Morrison’s finisher gets a name and now Knox’s does. The Adamle referred to it as the ‘Knox Out.’ Good name, I like it.)

Backstage: To Chuck Palumbo, Lena Yada mumbled that he got as good as he gave last week against CM Punk. Umm ok whatever. Palumbo so owned Punk last week. He warned Punk that he’d get knocked out if he gets in his face again. It’s a long shot but I predict Punk gets in his face again, either on this Friday’s Smackdown or the next ECW.

Kelly’s Expose: After a minute of Kelly dancing, her former Extreme Expose partner Layla hit the ring, shoved her aside, and busted her own moves. Kelly’s Expose turned into our 99th dance-off involving these two.:disappointed: They took turns dancing and shoving each other. Finally Kelly slapped and pummeled Layla until separated by the refs. Their feud and these dance-offs have been going on for months now. Seriously, how long can these two continue feuding like this? It’s beyond old and boring.

Match #2 Kofi Kingston vs. Matt Striker: What can I say about this 1-minute squash? Kofi hit his “boop boop” double leg drop, countered being thrown into the ropes by Striker, and pinned him after his finishing Trouble in Paradise kick. By the way, Shelton Benjamin sat in on commentary. Just as he was saying Kofi’s s great athlete (after him of course) and likes him, Shelton hit the ring and attacked Kofi to further their feud.

Backstage: Colin Delaney began his walk to the ring and was greeted by several ECW and Smackdown faces cheering him on.

Match #3 Colin Delaney vs. GM Armando Estrada: 2-minute match. Delaney went for a quick roll-up right away. Estrada showed off his muscles, talked some smack, and slapped Colin around. Estrada controlled the match. Colin saying ‘Never’ when the ref asked if he wanted to give up was a nice touch. Colin on the apron slid under the ropes and got the surprise pinfall. An ecstatic Delaney ran around the ring slapping the fans hands. Tazz interviewed Colin who thanked everyone for supporting him, especially his mentor Dreamer.

What is with General Managers wanting to wrestle lately? (Let’s hope Vicki doesn’t get similar aspirations on Smackdown.) Although Estrada looks in great shape and has some wrestling training, for Delaney’s win to truly be an exciting surprise and mean something in the long run, it should have come against (1) a legitimate wrestler with (2) some name value. This storyline had such promise only six weeks ago. I’m curious to see where Colin goes from here. I’m beginning to agree with Will that Nunzio is on the way out, and if that is so then Delaney can become everyone’s favorite jobber.

Match #4 (Main Event) Chavo Guerrero/Bam Neely vs. CM Punk/Kane
: John Morrison and The Miz joined the commentary team for a decent tag match that was given way more time (13 mins.) than I feel was warranted. Punk and Kane were in control until the commercial break then Bam and Chavo took turns with quick tags wearing down Punk. Kane got the hot tag, knocked Bam to the outside, and hit almost all his signature moves on Chavo. Favoring his knee after a flying clothesline, he tagged in Punk who hit the GTS on Chavo for the pinfall. After the match, Morrison and Miz held up the tag titles and exchanged stares with Kane and Punk holding up their respective title and briefcase. Hmm, I wonder if we’re soon going to see Kane/Punk vs. Morrison/Miz for the tag straps?

We finally saw Bam sans the suit and tie. I can’t help thinking he looks like a young, less muscular, less ugly imitation of Snitsky, but Snitsky has a bigger repertoire of moves at least based on what Bam’s shown in-ring thus far.

IMHO John Morrison and The Miz on commentary were more entertaining than this match itself. Both continued to ride The Adamle pretty hard. The Miz said he didn’t bring him a Chick Magnet t-shirt because they didn’t come in kiddie sizes and to go Jamaican himself crazy.:lmao: I wonder where exactly Morrison was going with the ‘daddy issues’ line. We never did get to see those famous red boots The Adamle raved about.

Overall Thoughts: A rather disappointing show considering the hype surrounding the 100th episode on Sci-Fi.
