[Official] Chris Benoit Memorial Thread

i definatly agree with you Mr. Sam, if it is true, i will be truely disappointed. Benoit was a great wrestler. The best in recent years. but it blows my mind that he could have done this. I am still in disbelief. You were one of the very best, Chris. RIP.

I don't think anything has been 100% as of yet but yea, it's sadly looking as if Chris Benoit took the life of his wife and child before his own. I respect Benoit for his years of wrestling and working his way up the ladder the hard way, his moment with Eddie at WrestleMania XX is still one of my all-time favourites and it's a shame he didn't continue to have such success, he deserved it. However, if it does turn out that Benoit is, as some have put it, "a murderer" that respect will disappear in an instant and be replaced not by anger, but by disappointment in one of my heroes.

I stand by my original statement. Yes, Benoit was great in the ring, yes, he was one of the greats but the fact of the matter is, or is looking like, Benoit killed his own wife and child before himself. A truly dispicable act, wouldn't you say? I may be warned for this, but I had to express my view. There's no way people will not look back on Chris Benoit and see the circumstances of his death staring them in the face.

rwilliams73 - i don't think that folks who taped segments in the afternoon should be ashamed of themselves - the truth did not come out until late in the evening - around 10 or so eastern...that's when the sheriff had a press conference...we can assume they talked to the WWE a few minutes prior...at that poinjt it would have been a train wreck if the WWE cancelled the tribute and said "hey we have no respect for this guy"...WWE is going to be paying its dues for a long time for this anywat - whether folks think it's road stress, steroids, whatever - bottom line is that they made the first call to the police, out of concern (the only thing that is going to help them save face now)...this is not, no matter how it stacks up, the WWE's fault

I'm not by any means saying WWE is responsible for any of this. What I am saying is that McMahon and some other executives had to know That Benoit was responsible for this when they started that "tribute" tonight.

I ask people to remember one thing here... Whatever ends up being the cause of this tragic affair, It will never take away the legacy of Benoit the wrestler. Whatever happened in the final days cannot undo a lifetime of work in a business where we will never see his like again.

Whatever occured will come out and soon we will all know the truth, until then, I don't see any point in disrespecting the memory of the family or Chris himself... Even if those who filmed tributes knew something about what had happened, they still lost their friend...

Some of you are using the term murderer... but remember to that little boy, it was just his dad... To Nancy, her husband... to us a respected legend... let's leave as that... It does no one any good branding until the facts are out and even then, why do it to yourself?

WOW...the thread just keeps getting angry about folks who are facing up to the reality of this thing...what gives???... are we meant to simply ignore the truth...ok then...my least favorite match was when benoit killed his family in a hardcore match...make you feel better???...maybe if i said oj was innocent???...the whole "shhh...let's not talk about benoit killing his 7 year old" boggles the mind...he was 7...how many 7 year olds wanted his autograph?...how many 7 year olds worshipped him?...imagine your a child - you hear that he has murdered his own - instead of mourning, you wonder if he would have killed you too...think about that...it's infuriating that people are ignorant to the impact that this is going to have on kids who respected this man - screw our own respect, we're adults...we can deal with a fallen hero..................................or can we?

wow am pretty dam shocked i went to bed last nite and all was confirmed that benoit and family were found dead shocking enough then wake up this morning to find the man i admired could be responsible its a bitter pill to swallow

rwilliams73 - sort of agree with you there...but still think the horse came in too late for them to change things - there is likelyhood that they could have cut the show short at 10 or earlier, when the truth came down, but then ya' get into ad time, which vince is always conscious of...and the network probably would have nixed anyway...

All I can say is that whatever caused this, took Benoit to a very dark and horrible place.

I can't look at Benoit as a person, or judge him because of whatever may as happened, to do that would be presumtive of me because I only knew Chris Benoit from what I saw every week on my TV, or when I put in an old WCW/ECW tape.
What I can say is this, that whatever the outcome proves, may God or whomever he believed in judge him on that. I'll judge him, like th many others who have fallen before him by what I knew of them, their Careers.

this whole "who cares if he did it - he was a great wrestler" and "we don't know the facts yet" is pretty much how the manson family started, correct?

The non-wrestling community is going to trash this guy like theres no tomorrow whether he deserves it or not, but as fans lets remember he was always there for us, always loved us, and always gave 110%

rutoretro, you are missing the point... sure many children who were fans of Benoit will be confused and upset, it will raise awkward questions for parents and adult fans the world over but there is no real sense of denial from people we know in our hearts and minds what has gone down. However, if people wish to remember the good in the man, that is their right and absolutly ok. Everyone will form their own view on Benoit long term, but no one should be doing so until the official facts are established and even then, who are we to comment?

It is easy at times to think we as fans have a "right" to be involved in the wrestlers lives, commenting on them, their work, their lives themselves, as if we are the greek gods controlling them. We do not... Whatever your views when this all shakes out, an entire family is gone... the WWE family (including fans) have lost not only a hero, but a respected and crucial part of their lives.

No one on these boards has the right to call Benoit anything until it is official what has gone down, and even then, we were not there... we will never truly know... So lay off if people want to "hold off knowing" for a while and just remember the man for the pleasure he brought them... and your Hardcore match comment is frankly sick...

Sources in the Fayette County Police Department are now working under the theory that Chris Benoit killed Nancy on Saturday, son Daniel on Sunday, and then killed himself earlier today.

Benoit was found dead in his weight room. Nancy was found dead in the living room. Daniel was found dead in his bedroom, accordig t an unnamed source in the department.

Lt. Tommy Pope told ABC News "the instruments of death were located on the scene," but didn't specify what those were or where they were found. Pope said the department was not actively searching for any suspects outside the house

so guess he did do it.......this changes my entire outlook on chris benoit as a performer and as a man...
......................wow if he did it man thats hard to believe here they are doing a tribute to the guy what the hell do they say after they find out? i grew up here in calgary watching this guy i still have his first matches on tape this is just hard to believe man

I don't think it's fair to to blame the WWE for possibly knowing the truth, or finding out the truth during the show and having a tribute show for Chris Benoit. While i'll agree this has tarnished everything he has done, i think it was proper to give him a tribute and then worry about the facts later, as it's being investigated so there is a slight chance that it wasn't done by Benoit. In reality though he probably did it. I'm sure in the up coming weeks everything will be sorted out, and he won't be mentioned again for such a horrible act. It's just so shocking.. Give it some time to work it's course. I'll always remember Chris Benoit for the amazing matches he gave us, but what he has done over shadows that unfortunately

but he wasn't there for his family. sorry for having to say this but it had to be said. so is it confirmed he killed his family?

Well from what I have read previously about Benoit, he was one of the most stable guys in the business - So hearing that he killed his wife and child is a bigger shock. I think theres more to be revealed in this, so might be wise to lay of he's a murderer and such like.

It seems IF he did kill them, then yeah he's a tw@t and so on, but you tank take away what he did for the business and his skill in the ring.

Andy

to drkjupiter38: i agree that the non-wrestling community is going to trash us...but, let's say, george michael stangled someone in the john or oj killed jim brown...the gay or african-american community would be scorned...likewise that same community would and should be angry at the disservice the individuals involved provided said community...let's not denegrate ourselves even more by holding this murderer up and worshiping him because we are afraid to face tomorrow...as a community, we should denounce him, acknowledge that it was unexpected and be saddened and angered by it...he did something that is reprehensible, with regard to any human being

but benoit did keep to himself. hmmmmmmmmmmmm. we need to see the txts that benoit sent to wwe

I agree chris5852, I'm not trying to say he is a model citizen, because I have a daughter of my own and feel if you want to be a coward and take your own life thats your business, but you should never take the life of a child or your spouse. but the point I'm trying to make is how conflicting this is. you want to love him for his career but absolutely despise him for what has occurred.

RIP you will be missed one of the best Technical wrestler in WWE History.

i don't know what to think. wrestling will have the shame of chris benoit on it if he did do it. and what will wrestling come to?
