Demon Hunter has consistently become better and better. I had their first two CDs just sitting in my booklet for who knows how long....until I broke out The Triptych and heard "Undying." Fucking smooth stuff.

They drop a new CD, The World Is A Thorn, March 9th. Be sure to check them out.

The next album I am excited about in a big way is High on Fire's "Snakes for the Divine". I'm listening to Frost Hammer right now, and I'm liking it. I really just started getting into their stuff, and I'm hoping this album can live up to the other ones which are all fucking amazing.

Oh my God, who here listens to Kyuss? They are an amazing stoner-metal band if you haven't heard them, with Joshe Homme from QOTSA as their guitarist. So good. If you don't listen to them, some songs I reccomend are Demon Cleaner, Conan Troutman, Space Cadet and Gardenia.

YES. Kyuss are friggin amazing. Great music, great feel, recommended to anyone who loves to chill out and listen to good tunes.

If anyone has last.fm, feel free to add me on to your list. I'm a big metalhead.

Also, Burzum's new album is AMAZING.

EDIT: Geez, this place realy is ridiculous with it's rules.....The new Burzum album is amazing material and you should all listen to it because it is some of Burzum's best work to date.

So I just bought 3 more CDs yesterday: Meshuggah's Destroy Erase Improve, Neurosis's Given to the Rising, and Fozzy's new CD Chasing the Grail that I happened to stumble on. I was planning on ordering it in since I am a Fozzy mark, but was shocked to find it instock and reasonably priced ($15!). All 3 CDs so far as I have listened are fucking awesome, with Fozzy's being a pretty conventional hard rock/classic metal inspired disc, and Meshuggah and Neurosis's ones of course being fucking wierd avante-garde death/thrash/math/experimental and doom/sludge metal respectively. While I was at the store, I placed on order on this CD as well.
Sleep-Dopesmoker.jpg

Sleep's Dopesmoker. The most revered, legendary, and intimidating stoner metal song in history. If you haven't heard of this song, here is the story. Sleep, the now defunct band from the great 90s stoner metal scene that also birthed Kyuss and Monster Magnet, released the song Dopesmoker as their third album. It is in fact, the only song on the album (actually, there is a second, but it's just a live song tossed in as a bonus). Normally a 1 song CD would not be something I would buy, but this song has to be heard to be believed. Dopesmoker is 63 minutes long. A very, very tough listen, but oh so fucking rewarding. Here's a link to a Youtube playlist of the song:

Kyuss is greatness whoever mentioned them.

Anywho, does anyone listen any DSBM bands? I've been listening to Nocturnal Depressions Nostalgia - Fragments of a Broken Past. Also, what would you consider Lifelover? Anyone heard the new Alcest?

Anyone heard the new Alcest?

Awesome that you'd mention Alcest, great band and yes I've heard their latest album, Écailles de Lune, it leaked a few weeks ago online. It's fucking AWESOME, I believe most of it is on YouTube as well, yep, here we go:

Awesome album, one of the best I've heard so far in 2010. They've really evolved past just metal at this point, they remind me much more of a shoegaze band with post-metal touches then just straight-up metal. Either way, great album. Enjoy.

What are your Favourite Bands?

My favorite Metal Band of all time is Iron Maiden. I've love a few more, but the maiden always strikes my heart snare.

Favourite Classic Albums?

One of the best albums ever in my opinion, was Rust in Peace. I'm not 100% how far back you want me to go though.

Best Albums of 2009?
My favorite from last year was No Sacrifice, No Victory by Hammerfall

Best Shows You've Been To?
Judas Priest last year and Iron Maiden a few years back.

Are You in a Band?
Quit because of school.

Man, tomorrow Dillinger Escape Plan drops Option Paralysis. This is a CD Im fucking stoked for. As wierd and expirimental as Dillinger Can be, they've never let me down so far, and Im really excited for teh new album.

Lol that album's been leaked for awhile, was listening to it earlier today in fact, and it's damn good. DAMN good. Dillinger Escape Plan are simply fucking awesome, but I often times forget that they could technically be labeled as metal considering mathcore is a subgenre of metal technically, I always think of them as more of a punk/metal band.

Great album though, you won't be disappointed.

Aaaaaaand fuck my life. The stupid CD store in my city had their shipment of Option Paralysis delayed a month, and something tells me Wal Mart doesnt sell a lo of Dillinger. Guess I'll be waiting longer than I thought for this one.

Hey anyone here heard of a band called Bison BC? Just found their new CD for $7 at Wal Mart today and picked it up, and it's pretty awesome. If I had to describe it, I'd say think Mastodon meets High on Fire, with some Baroness and Cancer Bats thrown in for good measure (and in fact, in May Bison BC will be playing with Mastodon, High on Fire, Baroness, as well as Betweent eh Buried and Me and Priestess in the most metal concert ever ever). The price was right on the CD, but it is fucking good music too, not just inexpensive. If you haven't heard them, I reccomend the songs Stressed Elephant and Two-Day Booze.

Just picked up Christian Älvestam's new album. Not sure if any of you were big into him, or his other projects (notably Scar Symmetry), but the guy is a living legend in the melodic death metal community, and everything he touches turns to gold, as I'm sure Solution .45's new record "For Aeons Past" will do as well.

For those interested, he's also still working with Miseration as well, who just released "The Mirroring Shadow" which is a full-on death metal album – no melody.

Solution .45 is essentially a Scar Symmetry clone, but with a little less synth work.

Worth checking out for anyone who's an Älvestam fan, IMO. Here's the single:

I once called their singer a cunt.

It was at Download Festival one year and Metallica were headlining the following day. Dillinger open on the main stage first thing, and half way through the set, the singer turned around and said:

"So, who's here to see Metallica tomorrow?'

Everyone cheers

"Do me a favour, when you see James Hetfield give him a bottle of vodka and tell him to stop writing pussy music!'

Everyone boos. The Mark of Zur-En-Arrh, stood at the very front of the crowd within spitting distance of the guy, shouted "How dare you slag off Metallica, you CUNT!"

Everyone around me cheered, and the singer didn't talk to the crowd again after that.

Just got back from perhaps the greatest thing to happen to Arkansas: Edgefest.

I shit you not I saw these bands live and up-close:
Rob Zombie
Godsmack
Bullet For My Valentine
Lacuna Coil
Hell Yeah
Papa Roach
5FDP
Seether
Drowning Pool
Shaman's Harvest
The Veer Union

and loved every bit of it. Favorite show by far.

Really getting into Dethklok right now; if anyone knows what albums to check out I'd love to hear it.

Well that's pretty gosh darn epic. I'm not going to lie though, I prefer Dillinger to Metallica easily. Whatever. As for Cult of Raven, I think The Dethalbum II is by far Dethklok's best, but there is good stuff on both their albums. Songs to check out would be Cyborg Slayers, Go Into the Water, Thunderhorse, I Tamper With The Evidence at the Murder Site of Odin, Murmaider, Murmaider II: The Water God, and Burn the Earth.

Really getting into Dethklok right now; if anyone knows what albums to check out I'd love to hear it.

Their first record "The Dethalbum" was fantastic, and the writing on the album was much more fun-loving and care-free as it was their first release and they weren't sure just how well it was going to sell.

They tried to go more serious with "Dethalbum II", which is still an OK record, but had a little too much rehash on it for my tastes.

Not sure what you've heard from them yet, but "The Dethalbum" had a number of really great tracks, especially "Murmaider", "Awaken", "Thunderhorse", "Bloodrocuted" and of course "Deththeme", which is the theme song to their show Metalocalypse.

Something that all metal fans should watch is the short film by slipknot the film is called Snuff. For those who have seen it post some thoughts on it. I personally love the film because of the way it was done with the non-naturalism and the creativity and im sure those who have seen it can agree with me.

Has anyone heard the new Bullet For my Valentine album I just bought it a couple days ago really enjoying the album so far I think Scream Aim Fire is a better album but its still a worthy buy. My fav song on the new album is "Pretty on the outside" the lyrics carry something very special and have lots of meaning that really strike a chord.

A bit about myself as a metal lover I love metal not because of the head banging and the loud noise but because of the energy it admits. Also for the songs that carry alot of meaning in them like Snuff and Vermillion those songs really are covered in meaning and philosophy.

I myself am in a metal band I play Drums, Bass, Guitar and I also scream I want to go on and not continue in a band but study to be a sound engineer and so then i can eventually make music with other metal bands and so people can share all the feelings and make the same connections i do with my music.

Hope you enjoyed reading that and learned a little about me

What are your Favourite Bands?

I'd have to give props to Manowar, HammerFall, Primal Fear, Symphony X, Kamelot, Nightwish.. I could go on, but we'll leave it there for now.

Favourite Classic Albums? Metallica's "Master Of Puppets", Manowar's "Fighting The World", Joe Satriani's "Surfing With The Alien" and Ozzy's "Bark At The Moon"

Best Albums of 2009? HammerFall- "No Sacrifice, No Victory", Primal Fear- "16.6 (Before The Devil Knows You're Dead)", Leaves' Eyes "Njord"

Best Shows You've Been To? Manowar (3 times), Judas Priest/Megadeth/Testament (1990 Painkiller Tour), Iron Maiden/Anthrax (No Prayer On The Road tour), Kiss' first reunion tour, seeing Motorhead in Calgary on my birthday definitely has to rank up there!

Are You in a Band? No, but dammit, I sure wish I was.

finally!!!!some metal head thread!! thank you very much Barbedwire Ropes for posting a thread for metal heads like us!:worship:

but to answer your questions my favorite METAL bands are: Iron Maiden, Opeth, Motörhead and Megadeth (honorable mentions to Metallica, Pantera, Nightwish, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine, Children of Bodom and As I lay Dying).

favorite classic albums??? I actually think that most of "classic albums" are waaaay over-rated: Metallica's Black Album, The Number of the Beast for example. so I'm going to give you MY classical albums: Maiden's Powerslave, Megadeth's Endgame (yes I'm aware that it is their latest album but I think it is one of the best) and Youthanasia, Motörhead's Overkill, Nightwish's Wishmaster and Dio's Holy Diver (the only "classic" album that I don't think is over-rated).

oh I hate power metal and death metal (not MELODIC death metal) but I respect it if you enjoy it. hell I like metalcore and many thinks that is a shitty genre. however I like many different genres in music but METAL is my absolute number one genre

great thread man! thumps up fellow metal head!

Anthrax is most likely going to be added to the American Carnage tour with Megadeth, Slayer, and Testament. Awaiting official announcement. Dude, that's all you need right there. For anyone that hasn't seen Testament live, I can't recommend them enough.

Was given the new As I Lay Dying album yesterday – not a poor album by any means, but quite generic (as is all their work) in terms of being progressive in any facet of metal. Your pretty basic run-of-the-mill metalcore with a fusion of melody in it.

The one thing I picked up on, though, is that the guitar work has really picked up. In place of where they'd almost always use huge breakdowns historically, they really started adding a lot more small solos and melodies, so I commend them for that.

Probably worth a listen if you're into the metalcore stuff at all.

Never heard much of As I Lay Dying. Could you recommend any specific songs IDR?

Damn it's been a while since I posted in here. God that post was awful.

And taste has definitely changed. While the bands are pretty much the same.

Thought I'd throw in a little music contribution. This band is Danish. Pretty decent band, nothing big to brag about. But this song in particular really strikes me as head banging awesomeness.

As you can see it's the theme for Mikkel Kessler when he makes his way to the ring. I heard it during his fight with Carl Froch where it debuted and I was blown away by the entrance mixed with that song. Definitely a song that makes the whole band worth listening to. And I'd recommend you give it a try. Even though some of their better songs have been with Danish lyrics collaborated.

This song is clean English although. But if you're not afraid to listen to a bit of gibberish then give Garden's Tale a try as well.

The song "Parallels" is the official single from the album, so I can link you to that for sure.

Like I said, it's a bit of a generic type, but creatively speaking it's much better than their work of old like "94 Hours" or "Confined", both of which I've linked for you below:

Seems to me that they've put a lot of work into their melodies since their early years.

94 Hours

Confined

The guitar play is awesome. That's sadly the only thing I can say. I'm all for metal music and all that. But I don't want to hear a song that consists of purely growl singing. Even if the chorus is normal singing.

But that's not a hit against the band. Or your music style. That's just not really me. I like being able to hear what there's being sung. I like a band who can variate. I'm a fan of Bullet For My Valentine. But they variate and that's the part I find fascinating about a band. The variation. Not being able to sing one of the things.
