DA-DA Da Da Da Bah Da Da DADADA
2012 is coming to a close... Time to look ahead to 2013. I'm going to list five things that I think will happen and give an explanation for each. With how unpredictable this sport is, and how often crazy stuff happens, with some of these, I'm taking the "Crazy Enough to possibly be true" approach.
Let's see how wrong we are by the end of the year.
1.) Junior Dos Santos FINALLY is given consideration as to being one of the best Pound for Pound fighters.
Despite being dominant since his UFC Debut (and it's not like he took out some random dude, he took out Fabricio Werdum, who at the time was a fight away from a title shot), JDS is rarely mentioned in the same breath as Silva, GSP, Jones, and Aldo. JDS has never remotely been in trouble, and he's taken out some of the very best Heavyweights (Werdum, Struve, Cro Cop, Gonzaga, Nelson, Carwin, Velasquez, and Mir). I predict that JDS tags Cain's weak chin again Saturday night, proving the first fight wasn't a fluke like so many are claiming. Then, he will remind us all that Overeem, when he is hit, crumbles. Then, he'll retire Dan Henderson (more on that in a minute!). He'll take out Werdum for a second time by the end of the year, and then, the only challenge standing in his way will be Daniel Cormier. JDS will make it all look easy though.
2.) Chael Sonnen defeats Jon Jones.
According to Mike Dolce, Chael is 240 lbs. and ripped. By the time the fight happens, Sonnen is going to be a monster and possibly the biggest opponent Jones has ever faced. All of Jones' opponents for one reason or another have been extremely tentative. Everyone reading this thread knows Sonnen is going to take the fight to Jones. At some point, Jones is going to wind up on his back, somewhere he's never been yet. We have no idea what he's like on his back, but according to Jones' old coach and Rashad Evans, he's extremely weak. People thought I was crazy two years ago when I predicted that Chael would dominate Anderson Silva the first time. I predict Jones/Sonnen is a carbon copy of the first Silva/Sonnen fight, except this time, Chael pulls it off. In the meantime, Dan Henderson moves up to Heavyweight after defeating Lyoto Machida for #1 Contendership, as he doesn't want to fight his friend. I will predict that a rematch between Sonnen and Jones takes place by the end of the year.
3.) Nick Diaz loses to GSP, retires.
Nick Diaz flakes out again after a decisive loss and retires, complete with him flipping off Dana White and GSP in the Octagon post-fight. Three months later he decides he wants to come out of retirement and fight for Bellator. An ugly legal battle between the UFC and Diaz, much like the Couture one from years ago, begins. I predict that GSP will fight three times next year, defeating: Diaz, Hendricks, and Jon Fitch a second time. One of these will be a stoppage. By the end of the year, he'll be proclaimed as the greatest fighter, pound for pound, because...
4.) Anderson Silva loses for the first time in his UFC career, to Chris Weidman.
First off, Silva will destroy Michael Bisping, after he earns his shot by defeating Vitor Belfort. It will be hilariously one sided. Silva will arrogantly proclaim how he made it look easy again, wants a tough challenge, etc. In the meantime, Weidman will defeat Hector Lombard, which earns him a title shot in Brazil. As Silva keeps ducking Weidman, he states he'll take the fight, but only if it's in Brazil. Weidman will employ his wrestling and submit Silva.
5.) Bellator on Spike TV is a Bust
As having no established stars kills their hopes of gaining popularity. The glimmer of hope they have with signing Rampage fades as he retires after getting savagely destroyed by Glover Teixiera. Meanwhile, the World Series of Fighting gets picked up by Showtime and they will struggle to find an audience as well.
