MMA News and Tidbits

I really don't care, to be quite honest. The April 9th card is shaping up to be the card of the year. Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley is going to be a fucking war, Kawajiri and Gilbert Melendez's first fight against one another was a complete classic and I don't expect it to be any different this time around, KJ Noons' fights are always entertaining, and it's being rumored that Shinya Aoki vs. Hiroyuki Takaya will also go down on this card, which would be fucking AMAZING.

So, yeah.. I would be pissed if they were postponing it with some throwaway card, but shit, man, they're really giving us all they have with the April 9th card now. I absolutely cannot wait!

I dunno, dude. Daley vs. Diaz has all the makings of the lamest title fight in history. Diaz, while I hate the guy, should be smart enough to realize that Daley's ground game is non-existent. There's absolutely no reason someone with Diaz's grappling credentials shouldn't be able to take Daley down rather quickly and submit him even quicker.

Koscheck doesn't possess half the skills on the ground that Diaz does and he absolutely torched Daley.

Daley is a one trick pony if there ever was one.

"After pulling out of his main event fight against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira later this month thanks to a training injury, Tito Ortiz said he will be ready to fight again later this spring – and wants a trilogy fight with Forrest Griffin.

Ortiz, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, was scheduled to face Nogueira at the UFC's Fight Night card in Seattle on March 26. But last month, a cut suffered in an accidental sparring headbutt required 22 stitches. On Monday, he told Ariel Helwani on "The MMA Hour" losing training time for an opponent of Nogueira's caliber would be a crucial setback.

"I just got the stitches out at the end of last week, and I'm not able to wrestle for another week and a half," Ortiz said. "I can't take three weeks off and (be prepared) for Nogueira – it's impossible to do. So I had to pull out of the fight."

Stepping in to replace Ortiz in the fight, which airs live on Spike TV, is unbeaten Phil Davis. UFC Fight Night 24 is the promotion's Washington debut and takes place at the Key Arena in Seattle.
Ortiz told Helwani he expects to be in fighting condition within three weeks and wants to start preparing for his next fight – and hopes that fight will be against Griffin. Ortiz said comments Griffin made toward him on Twitter are the impetus for wanting a third fight with the Season 1 champion of "The Ultimate Fighter," also a former UFC light heavyweight champ.

"Hopefully in May or June," Ortiz said about a possible return. "It's up to Dana and the UFC to let the fight happen. I know people want to see me fight again, so let's do a Forrest-Ortiz 3. He's a former world champion, our last two fights have been awesome – so let's just put on a 3."

Looks like our worst fears have been realised. Tito goes on to talk more shit about how he doesn't want to fight guys who are not on his level. Really Tito, i really am starting to dislike this guy more and more he should retire. There is nothing left that he can contribute to MMA, he is not going to ever challenge for a title again, the only enjoyment i am getting out of him fighting is the possibility for someone to pummel this asshole. Forest fighting this guy is a step down. Dana White please do not make this happen.

Since our MMA Forum is a tightknit community, I say we take a simple vote. There's enough of us long time posters that are, basically, the backbone of the MMA forum. That being said, here's my suggestion.

I vote we put a ban on any "news" about Tito Ortiz. Consider it not worth posting.

Tito only wants Forrest and that's the only fight he's going to take. Period that's clear as day.

Don't give a shit wat anyone says Tito is one of the most interesting figures in MMA even still today. People might be getting sick of him but even still you know you want to watch him. He's simply too much of an icon.

No, I really don't. To be honest I never like him when he was good. I'm more sick of him than most because he's an "alumni" of my university. He's a complete joke. He hasn't won a fight since 2006. He doesn't deserve anything at this point. Even a fight with Bader is a step down for Bader.

Tito could still trounce many lightweights in the UFC, but h I'm sure his paycheck doesn't justify the sort of money he's getting paid. But I think it's completely ridiculous for him to think he deserves Griffin at this stage.

I would hope that he could trounce lightweights. Anyone giving up 50 pounds and almost a full foot should lose a fight to someone with Tito's skills :D

As to what you actually meant, I'm sure that he could beat a lot of Light Heavies, but none even at the middle of the pack. Hammil whooped his ass. Tito doesn't really have a great list of wins. To be honest, he's actually pretty bad in fights that count. Wandy is probably his biggest win. Belfort is up there, but Vitor has yet to be consistent in his career. He wins, he loses, he wins he loses. I'd take Bader over Tito. Couture again, Hammil again, Machida again, I'd also take Forrest, again.

Here's an idea, let Anderson fight him. When you think about it, Anderson's only two wins at LHW came against Irvin and Forrest who is 2-2 in his last two bouts. Tito says he only wants big names, Anderson is as big as it gets. It's a win-win. Tito gets his big name and I get to see him KTFO.

To be honest I love Tito. I have since I read his book. I have a deep respect, and admiration for him because even though people say some of his injurys are excuses, he has come back from multiple back surgerys. That being said Tito needs to hang them up. He is well past his prime, and there are no matchups from him that I am interested in. I think Tito Knows he needs to retire, but he wants to go out on with a win over someone who isn't a joke. Don't all fighters want that? I doubt any fighter is happy with going out on a loss, or a win over a scrub.

I'm sure fighters want a lot of things, but they don't always deserve them. Alan Belcher wanted Anderson Silva without a win over a top 5 MW. Jon Fitch wanted a title shot rematch after a DRAW.

Tito wants Forrest after two losses to him. A rubber match makes no sense. Regardless of how people feel the fight went, the official record book reads 0-2. What's the fucking point of a rubber match? Actually, it's not even a rubber match since Tito didn't split the first two.

I don't fucking understand how Antonio Rogerio Nogueria is a "big name," but Ryan Bader is not. Lil Nog is not his brother. He actually lost to a guy that Tito was WILLING to fight.

Tito is being a douche. Everyone knows it. He's pulling out and doing everything in his power so he can have Forrest again. That's the only fight Tito wants, that's the only fight Tito will probably take until Dana puts the pimp hand down and says "fight or get the fuck out my organization for good."

I came to rep you, but it says i have to spread some more.(sigh) Remind me i owe you rep. But what you have said is spot on, Tito walks around the UFC like he is the main attraction. Once upon a time he was able to put a performance for the people, and something we actually cared about. He can provide nothing, their are no viable opponents for this man. Retirement should be his top priority.

Oh, there's a viable opponent. Give him a rematch against my boy Machida. Lyoto sent Tito packing once, I'd love to see him retire the man again.

Or fuck it, give him Vera. Nobody cares about either at this point.

The hits keep coming for UFC 132, as promotion officials on Thursday announced that German striker Dennis Siver (Pictured) will lock horns with wrestling specialist Matt Wiman at the July 2 event.

The news comes in the wake of the announcement that B.J. Penn will rematch Jon Fitch in the event’s potential headliner, going down from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. UFC 132 will also play host to two more lightweight confrontations, as the red-hot Melvin Guillard squares off with Team Takedown representative Shane Roller and Evan Dunham looks to rebound from his first career defeat by dispatching skilled Aussie George Sotiropoulos.

Siver comes fresh off an impressive victory over the aforementioned Sotiropoulos on the Aussie’s home soil at UFC 127. Holding a noticeable advantage on the feet, the German easily shrugged off Sotiropoulos’ takedown attempts while rocking the jiu-jitsu specialist with hard punches en route to a unanimous decision victory. After beginning his UFC career in 2007 with an Octagon record of just 1-3, Siver has righted the ship, winning three straight bouts and seven of his last eight. His lone loss in the last two years came to hard-hitting Brit Ross Pearson one year ago in a “Fight of the Night” performance. A two-time “Knockout of the Night” winner, the 32-year-old kickboxer is a veteran of 25 pro fights and holds half of his career victories by submission.

Last seen battering jiu-jitsu ace Cole Miller in their January contest, Wiman has also won three straight bouts. Prior to dominating Miller at “Fight for the Troops 2,” the Tulsa Top Team product finished veteran Mac Danzig with a controversial guillotine choke in the first round. Thinking that Danzig had lost consciousness from the choke, referee Yves Lavigne waved the UFC 115 contest off, much to the chagrin of the incredulous and fully conscious Danzig. The pair was set to square off again at UFC Fight Night 22 in September, but Danzig was forced to withdraw from the bout with an injury. A former cast member of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5, Wiman has finished eight of his 13 career victims and has only been stopped once in his nearly seven years as a pro.

Interesting match up. I really expected Siver to get a fight with someone like Jim Miller next, but Wiman will should make for a nice little fight. However, I don't give Wiman anymore then a punchers chance on the feet against Siver. Siver is an excellent striker and Wiman is not on that level yet. This fight will definitely set up the winner for a nice push towards a title fight, with the winner probably facing either the winner of Guida/Pettis or Jim Miller if he can get through his next opponent.

Nothing against Matt Wiman as he seems like a good dude and his last performance against Cole Miller was really fucking impressive, but this is a spit in the fact of Dennis Siver, if you ask me.

After Siver fucking dominated George Sotiropoulos in his last fight, he deserves a top contender in the UFC Lightweight Division, no doubt about it, and Matt Wiman just isn't that right now. Wiman is one or two wins away from being close to that, if you ask me.

I mean, let's face it... sure, Wiman looked good against Miller, but Miller looked like shit and Wiman's two wins before that was nothing to brag about. He beat a TUF reject in Shane Nelson, and then got the biggest bullshit stoppage in history against Mac Danzig. See why I think Siver deserves better?

Like I said, nothing against Wiman, and I hope it turns out to be a great fight, but Siver deserves better and I am sure his performance against Wiman will prove me right.

Tito Ortiz vs. Ryan Bader is set for UFC 132 in July.

This may very well be the end for Tito in the UFC at least that what Dana is touting if he loses. Can't blame him as Tito hasn't won in almost 5 years. I think this fight will be eerily similar to Ortiz's last fight against Hamill. Tito still stands a chance though, Bader is coming off his first ever loss, sometimes that messes with your mentality. What's hurting Tito, is that it's another long layoff between fights, he should be fighting on the May card. If Ortiz does lose and is out of the UFC, I see him still wanting to continue, he hasn't lost a fight by stoppage since the last Liddell fight. With him claiming to be fully healthy, I see him fighting at lesser promotions if he would except the big hit in pay. Maybe even a Strikeforce run, could happen.

Still the ultimate fight for Ortiz's UFC fate needs to be him versus Liddell even though Chuck is retired, that is the only fight that he would come out for. Liddell still wants a piece of him.

Bringing this back to the top as there have been no news/tidbits posted lately. In this thread, anyway.

I got a call from my manager yesterday saying that this Jon Olav Einemo had asked to fight me. I was waiting on the Russow Maddsen outcome but I guess the UFC liked this match up.

For me I just want an opponent. I think Jon has a great background and is someone we will take very seriously.

I have had a long lay off and I am excited to have an opponent. I am a competitor and I train to compete at the highest levels and against the best.

I want to get a shot at that belt, I am going to do my best to make sure nothing or no one stands in my way.

I am excited to be on the UFC 131 card in Vancouver.

-Carwin

Einemo basically has one and a half feet. He had a nasty staph infection in his foot that nearly cost him his leg. He also hasn't fought in 5 years. The fact that he requested Carwin shows that he has a "Go Big or Go Home" mentality in regards to his career, especially where he's 35. He also probably figured that he had a decent shot against a guy with literally no gas tank like Carwin. His most notable win was over James Thompson :lmao:.

Einemo has serious Jiu Jitsu credentials. However, he's 35, hasn't fought in 5 years, and is fighting Shane Carwin. That's a tall order there.

I'm predicting Carwin by first round murder.

I just post news as a regular thread. I find it's easier and people can see what the news is and decide if they want to read it. That's how my other MMA threads work, it's a good system and I've applied it here.

What you talking about Willis? I had this bumped from the Ortiz/Bader announcement.

Yeah, put it defeats the purpose of having this then, not trying to be a prick but most of the ones you posted could've just made it here, or like the Bellator one could've just went in the stickied Bellator thread. I'm no Mod to tell you what to do, just that the majority of the things you posted could've been summed up in one post in here.

In MMA news UFC cut Chris Camozzi and Rob Kimmons. Neither release is a big shocker, as Kimmons was like 3-4 for the UFC, Camozzi was 2-1 and wasn't really that impressive since TUF 11. I wouldn't be surprised if Bellator took a chance on Camozzi, he's still pretty young.

I completely understand what you're saying, but, to me, it's a hassle to sort through one GIANT discussion for news. Especially when people are posting them here, the Bellator thread, the MMA GSD, etc...

It's a pain in the ass. I don't post every news article I find in the MMA forum, but our forum is pretty dead as it is. I sort of hope that, for new people who might begin posting, they'll see the topics and be drawn in and hopefully expand our forum.

I usually only post topics that will, hopefully, generate discussions that won't bump the actual news back two or three pages like it does on other threads.

I've been repped for my posting of news, so until I'm warned to stop doing otherwise, I'll keep putting them up in the hopes that the MMA section of this site grows.

There's some great posters with a lot of knowledge on these threads and it would be awesome if that expanded beyond the four or five of us that posted regularly.

My goal is to help that expansion.

Shogun held a seminar in New York yesterday and here's what someone who went had to say about it:

-Was in Good spirits,Said the opening knee he took from Jones took all his gas and was never the same after that,it was a picture perfect knee that landed on the right spot

-Said hes going to ask Dana for a Forest Griffin Rematch for his next fight

-Jones apologized after the fight

-Wants to get back in action ASAP

I thought it was the kick that knocked the wind out of Shogun, but it was in fact that knee at the very beginning. I knew it was something, though. Shogun's cardio isn't anywhere near as bad as people are assuming. Jones just hits like a fucking gorilla with perfect technique.

And Shogun vs. Forrest 2 is the fight I want to see most from Shogun next, so I was very happy to hear that that's what he wants as well. I really, really, REALLY want Shogun to avenge that loss.

But yeah... good to hear Shogun's in good spirits, and I definitely expect he'll be back better than ever in his next fight and will look to start a new run for another chance at the title.

I also think Shogun is downplaying the effects that all the knees surgeries he's had over his career have had on him.

I honestly don't believe Shogun will ever remain healthy for an extended period of time and it's unfortunate because he's such a great talent. As a veteran of knee surgeries, though, I'm here to tell you, they don't get "better."

Shogun needs to pick his fights wisely because I don't think his body is going to let him fight as long as his mind thinks it will. Not at the highest level anyhow. Shogun has been in the UFC for how long and he's already had 3 knee surgeries? Not good.

God I hope Shogun/Forrest II happens. I loved the first fight, mainly because I am a big Forrest fan and knew very little about Shogun at the time. But now that I know more about Rua and have become a fan of his as well I would love to see a completely healthy Shogun fight a completely healthy Forrest. It would be a brawl for the ages and I have little doubt that a healthy Rua would defeat Forrest. So here's hoping the rematch gets put together and both guys come into the fight at 100% or as close to that as they can get.

Forrest is coming off two wins in a row and Shogun is coming off a pretty bad loss... I don't think the UFC will set this matchup up. Much more likely we see a Shogun/Beltfort or possibly Shogun/Lil Nog (Depending on what happens tomorrow)

They are much more likely to set up a Forrest/Rampage 2...possibly a number one contenders match. This is assuming of course that Rampage beats Hammil which I'm pretty sure he will.

What the fuck are you talking about Joe? Jesus god Shogun lost a championship last fight, and he doesn't deserve a fight with a guy who has fought twice since 2009? It's not even like his wins have been good ones. He beat Tito in an incredibly close fight, and Franklin who isn't exactly a top 5 LHW. Those two wins means he deserves a #1 contenders fight? Not to mention Belfort is fighting at 185. Forrest would be lucky to get Shogun at this point.

With How the UFC has been matchmaking lately. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rampage go up against Shogun, despite his upcoming fight. But that's wishful thinking. Forest up against Shogun sounds logical and it would be a great fight, so im leaning toward this happening and i would enjoy it. So Fizz i do agree with you to some extent but Forest vs Shogun could very well happen.

I have no idea why joejoe suggested Rua vs. Belfort. Vitor fights at 185 right now, not 205. It's possible, but not likely. Vitor isn't at a stage where he can, willy nilly, jump up and down. He hasn't established himself at any one class. Shogun vs. Forrest makes perfect sense. While I agree with you, Fizzy, I don't share your enthusiasm about Forrest not deserving Shogun. You'd be ******ed not to say he didn't. Many people feel Shogun only lost because of his rehab and ringrust. Why not match them up? Forrest has two wins, Shogun is coming off a loss, and both want back in title contention. You're high if you think this would be a "blessing" for Forrest.
