30 pitches from Scherzer in 1.1 is not good control. Benoit fielding was his bad but Leyland can't know Benoit is going to fuck up a fielding play.
Agreed, but Scherzer was pitching fine, why fuck with something that was working. He threw 31 in 1.1, but he had no problems whatsoever. Let Scherzer finish the inning.
Fact remains the Tigers pitching held the Yankees to 2 runs through 8 and held the lead for the closer. That's all you can ask for.
Agreed. The Pen finally did its job, although they did (again) make it too close for comfort.
That's why Jim Leyland is the manager and not ST
So what you're saying is that the Tigers Bullpen has been good all postseason. If you are, then you're delusional. I'm not saying they shouldn't have gone to Valverde, but if they tied it in the 7th, you're calling Leyland a moron for putting in someone that was ineffective.
YES YES YES FUCK YES FUCK YES. HE GONE. HAHAHAHA. FUCK YOU YANKEES.
At least the Yankees played in October, which is more then anyone can say for the "greatest team of all time" 2011 Boston Red Sox, who won a whopping 90 games.

Laugh all you want, but Boston was the biggest embarassment in all of baseball, and everyone is laughing at that, and will for a long time. Every year it will be brought up, 9 game least in September, not making the playoffs.

I'd rather have the chance and lose then not even earn a chance.

Hats off to Detroit, at the end of the day, they played better then the Yankees 3 times, and the Yankees only played better twice.

As if it isn't enough to be a lifetime Eagles and Flyers fan, now I have to deal with this disappointment....

the only thing that pisses me off right now is that I had a ticket for ALCS Game 6 that obviously isn't happening now.

Maybe I'll use that money on a Survivor Series ticket instead if I can still get one.

Doesn't matter you now share the same feeling as us.
again, no, they don't. The Yankees had the best record in the AL, and made the playoffs.

BIG difference in losing in the playoffs to a damn good team then getting your ass kicked in September by the Orioles and the rest of the AL.

When the fuck did I say anything close to that? All I've been getting at is that Jim Leyland has been a MLB manager for 20 years. He knows his team and his bullpen better then anyone. He sure as fuck knows what he's doing more then you. You said it was a bad move but the end result shows otherwise.

You've kept saying that the Pen has been good, which is why I kept saying it really hadn't been.

And I love Leyland. But if Benoit walked one more batter, or one of them made contact in the 7th, or if Jeters ball went out in the 8th, you'd be killing him for putting in Benoit. The only thing I'm saying is why take out a guy when he's pitching damn good?

Leyland took a chance, and it got really close to not working. Lucky for him the Yankees didn't take advantage of the numerous chances they had. It happens.

I never said that once. I said that the bullpen as a whole hasn't been very good but Benoit had been fine his first appearance.

Because he knows what he's doing and it obviously worked.

You can talk in what ifs all you want. The fact remains that it did work and that is why he's one of the best in the game.

Now Cc opt out of your contract and come to Boston we won't over extend your innings.

Yeah and take a paycheck half of what the yankees will offer him, and go to an old team with a soon to be new manager and a team who are now on Cubs level of embarresment for blowing a 9 game lead. Yeah CC you go for that!

Still bringing up the collapse huh that's such old news. Well I guess the Yankees will oh I forgot their doing the same thing the sox are now.

Delmon Young out with an injury to his side. Ryan Rayburn in Left Field now.

Scherzer still in for the 7th before the 2 Tigers guys that have not been that scary this postseason.

I know I'm gonna be repeating myself and you've already replied to this, but it needs to be said - Scherzer let the guy get on and has given up quite a few HRs this year. With Grandy/Cano up I expected Coke, but he wanted the guy they paid big money for and he got the job done.

BAD, BAD, BAD move by Leyland. He just pulled his best pitcher he had left for a suspect bullpen. Scherzer should have closed this game out for him.

They've lost one game when leading going into the 8th. While Benoit had an unfortunate bounce on the grounder and walked a guy in, he still got the job done. He's giving his back end guys the ball and expecting it to be game over (just like Girardi did with his relievers).

The pen has been bad all series, not just last inning. And Scherzer is still the best option.

Benoit wasn't good at all, he allowed 3 baserunners and an inherited runner to score. Scherzer. Now he needs to go another inning, Valverde (who has not been good at all either) has to go 2, or they have to go to some other guy for one, since Benoit probably can't go a second inning now.

Scherzer could have very easily gone 50-60 innings and then pitch games 3-7 if they go to the ALCS. Now his season could very well be over thanks to a shaky Pen.

No, I'm saving Scherzer for game 2. Obviously Fister wasn't gonna go til (at the earliest) game 3, JV is going game 1, and I sure as hell dont want Porcello out there in that 2nd game in Texas. You paid big money for these relievers (who've gotten the job done all year) you make that change, especially with the tying run on.

And the bad bullpen guys were the ones who aren't expected to finish off games (Schlereth, AA). 8-9 has been rock solid.

I'll take a bullpen who makes it a little more intense if they get the job done. WHICH THEY KEEP DOING.[/QUOTE]

The back end (8/9) has lost 1 game all season, I'd say that's pretty damn good.

And you're playing the ifs ands or buts game after just telling BS the game would've been different had Benoit made that out on the slow dribbler. Game would've been different had he walked a guy in. Maybe they try to bunt to start the 8th. Maybe Robertson gives up a meatball since the games all tied and he has a chance to get them in the dugout with a chance to take the lead. I can play that game too.

Great teams win the tight games. The Tigers all 3 wins were by 2 runs or less. It's great to knock down the 'big bad Yankees', especially the way it was in Yankee Stadium. It was a great series, but the better team came out on top.

Now bring on the Rangers. :D:D:D:D:D

Now Cc opt out of your contract and come to Boston we won't over extend your innings.

You can take him. It's his loss. Go from a playoff team with the best record in the AL to a team that is the laughing-stock of the entire league.

I see what your saying but I disagree I think giradi didn't want nova to face the top of the order again. When you have Cc and Hughes in the bullpen it shouldn't matter how long the starter goes. I never said giradi was a dumbass but he's a big numbers guy. Quick inning for Mo.
Just to update the story, Nova has a Grade 1 Flexor Strain of his right Forearm, which is an injury that would normally put pitchers on the DL.

So again, no, Girardi didn't make a panic move, he made a health move. Pulling Nova was never a numbers move, as the numbers didn't favor doing that.

Oh well, at least he will have plenty of time to rest and rehab his injury. A good six month rest, just what the doctor ordered ;)

I love how Phillies fans boo Howard when he's hurt to the point he needs carried off the field. Showing remarkable class once more.
