The newest Flair DVD match listings are out. The first disc is a documentary. To be honest, after the Austin DVD I was hoping WWE would stop doing this. Most wrestlers aren't intresting enough to have a whole 2 hour documentary made about them. Flair might be the exception. But I kinda doubt that. Just have an intresting story between the matches, that's all that's needed imo.

The 2nd disc is all matches. Great news. Now people can call Ric Flair the best and actually see that he was for a while. Instead of just saying it because everyone else does.

The third disc is pretty pointless. A match with Piper, a good match with Steamboat, a forgettable match with HHH, and his recent Mania match. I can see the point in the HBK match. It's only ok, but it bookends his career, although I smell a 3rd Flair DVD so that would make this final disc pointless. Then there's some classic promos, and his farewell from Raw.

Overall it looks like a good set, just not as good as the original one. Where's the obligatory Eddie Guerrero match?

Triple H: The King Of Kings

Subtitled There Is Only One. Evidently HHH killed that final Highlander.

Straight up I have to say my favorite part of this set is the Easter Egg. It's Trips doing the old Make-A-Wish deal. He's visiting a girl with Cerebral Palsy, his ''Hey, I'm cerebral too'' line is classic.

Overall this is an ok set. It's just full of filler. You'd think that a guy as good as Triple H would have a bigger, more impressive set. Certain matches deserve to be there. His first match in WWE, his fist IC & WWE title wins. But they're not particularly great. Also for a guy that doesn't rate Mick Foley, he sure does feature him a lot on this set. 3 matches.

I love how Triple H claims that he was glad to have the workhorse title. A bit of a high opinion of himself there. He was terrible for most of the time he was a blueblood. He really only started to improve in late 1996.

I'm not sure why the Owen Hart Mania match is included. It's an ok match. But it's not a classic.

I'm also unsure why the second dic focus' on his post 2001 injury matches. That's when he was at his worst. The 2002-2008 years have not been kind to Triple H.

They bill this set as having the 2002 Rumble as well. Not true. They have 20 minutes of it. Not even a good 20 minutes at that. Triple H has the longest Rumble entrance of all time, wrestles with Austin for a big, oh look it's Mr. Perfect, finish. I'm sure they could have used another match.

The final disc was a total waste of my time. The HBK match is ok, not the best they've had, the Batista match is good considering how limited he is. The Flair match is too long, but ok for a Flair match. And the triple threat, while good, isn't really a memorable match.

Overall I think the release of other DVD sets crippled this one a bit. There are matches that I'm guessing could have been added, but are already on Rocks, Austins, Foleys & The Ladder Match. But that's no excuse for the lack of Angle matches. It's not like TNA is a threat to WWE, just add them. This set could have been a hell of a lot better.

Wrestlemania 24 3 Disc DVD

Being at Wrestlemania 24 Live and now watching the DVD I've decided to write a review of the DVD.

Overall it was a good PPV and from top to bottom the best card Wrestlemania has had in a while. It deserves to be up there with some of the great Wrestlemanias simply because there were only two bad matches. That being the Playboy Bunny match and Batista vs. Umaga.

The actual airal shots of the sold out citrus bowl were impressive to watch on DVD on the big screen and gave those who weren't there a feel of what it actually was like.

There were a few great promos throughout the DVD including Edge talking about Hulk losing at Wrestlemania 6 and also Mr. Kennedy cutting a promo right before his MITB ladder match.

As far as extras go having the entire Hall of Fame Ceremony was nice because I didn't get to see it. I actually don't see why there was so much hype about the Rock "upsetting" people. It seemed like everyone was having a good time throughout his speech. And after seeing Ric Flairs speech in full trust me the Rock didn't take ANY time away from Ric Flair.

Ric's speech although long entertained me. His speech was actually heartfelt and he had some funny stories for us along the way.

A side note: Why did the WWE decide to edit Ric Flair mentioning Chris Benoits name? It's not like the guy never exisited. Yes he was a bastard for what he did but he was a part of Ric's carreer.

I didn't have a lot of interest in the other inductees so I sort of skimmed through the rest.

The Battle Royal prior to the show was pretty boring after looking at it again. While being there live it was great but probably just because the crowd was so antsey and looking to cheer anything in Spandex.

Overall this DVD set is good but not great. It's good because of the actual event and Ric Flair's Hall of Fame speech but not great because of the lack of extras.

I would have liked to see the next night on Raw, or possibly some more of the aftermath of Wrestlemania.

It also would have been nice to see some of the behind the scenes stuff on how the transformed the Citrus Bowl into Wrestlemania 24.

All in all though go buy this DVD set and enjoy!

Pro Wrestling's Ultimate Unsiders: The Hardy Boys:

This is a two disc set, one on Matt, the other on Jeff. Two interviews. One is pretty short, one is really fucking long.

Jeff Hardy: Unwrapping The Enigma:

A pretty short interview. Only about an hour long. Not that it's a bad thing. Jeff is a quiet guy, he doesn't really have much to say. Half the interview is about his music. which is a special feature on the disc. It's terrible. But I like him because he just couldn't give a shit. All the while Matt will never be as popular, or given the same oppertunities he is.

Matt Hardy: Behind The Controversies:

Matt Hardy sure does waffle some shit. This interview is overlong. And just really rather boring. He sure is bitter that Jeff get's better pushes than he does. I'm not surprised after seeing this interview. I'd push Jeff to spite Matt. He's under the impression he's in the same league as Eddie Guerrero & Benoit. He's solid, but nowhere near the same league.

For about an hour he talks about Edge & Lita. A who hour. He should be thanking Edge. Lita is ugly as fuck. Did you also know that Matt wasn't as into Lita as she was into him? This has nothing to do with her cheating on him you understand.

Overall:

Poor. I much prefered the first one I saw. Matt isn't so bad if he's interrupted on occasion by Jeff. But two hours off Matt talking would make me sleep with Edge. And I don't usually find Down's Syndrome looking people attractive.

Knockouts: The Ladies Of TNA Wrestling Volume 1:

This shows how bored I was last night. With no England in the European Championsips, and Big Brother not on till 10, I was forced to watch this. It's awful. I've had it for about two years. I bought it because I'm a completest, it's an OCD thing. It's like those WWE Diva's DVD's that WWE appear to have stopped doing. Difference being that those would at least have a couple of matches. This has one. It's 5 minutes long, and worth nobodies time. The rest if just women in bikinis. Ok I guess, Gail & Christy are hot. But after 15 minutes you really just want them got get naked and wrestle.

Jackie comes across as being a little s-l-o-w. It's a good job she's married to Charile Haas, I hear he's intelligent. Traci comes across like a ****. I'm predicting a porn career when she's done with wrestling. Porn companies hire any type of women, even ugly ones. I also think SoCalVal has had a stroke. Her face is kinda like Sylvester Stallone's. But I still would. Love Demolition Man.

I'm optimistic that Volume 2 will be Kong concentrated.

The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment

rockdvd3disc.jpg

Thus far, I've only completed disc one. In which the story has YET to actually bring the Rock into the conversation in a speaking role. With this said, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the Rock will NOT be speaking about his career on either Disc Two, or Three as well.

Disc One Review:

Samoan Royalty: Okay here we go.. no Rock, but we get a voice-over guy. Sa-weet! He quickly explains how the High Chief Peter Maivia was the promoter and ran the Hawaiian portion of the N.W.A. territory. It goes on to explain the Rock (shown as a little pissed off kid, sitting in the crowd) was interested in wrestling at a young age. (apparently storylines got to him even as a child) Upon his Grandfather's passing, his Grandmother took over the promotion, and ran it just the same.

Moving along, it explains Rocky Johnson became one half of the first African American Tag Team Champions, with Tony Atlas. It also explains that the Rock grew into a very large wrestling Family that included.. Yokozuna, Rikishi, The Wild Samoans, Tongo Kid, and more. (forgot the rest) This lead into showing highlights from the Rock debuting at the 1996 Survivor Series. (of course it didn't show highlights of that match, just him entering through the entrance way)

Thursday RAW, 2-13-97
WWE IC Title
vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley

Rock the Ruler: After the Rock won the Intercontinental Championship from Triple H., it quickly jumps to how the fans turned on Rocky.. and the Rock was born. It doesn't show any type of promo or interview in which this happend, it just has the voice-over guy explaining that he became the leader of the Nation, and instead of being the leader.. he reclaimed himself, the ruler. And begun refering to himself in the 3rd person. Ladies and Gentlemen.. the Rock, was born.

RAW 4-6-98
IC title
vs. Owen Hart

Nation v. DX: One of the hottest rivalries at the time, it explained how Triple H. and the Rock's heated feuds spanned into all-out wars between large numbers of individuals along the way. It also explains how Owen Hart became "co-leaders" with the Nation, along side the Rock. (I never knew Owen was a co-leader)

RAW 6-22-98
King of the Ring Quarter Final
vs. Triple H

Rock's Big Chance: Dispite his arrogant ways and his tasteless reaction to the fans, they took to the new found heel and began loving him all over again. (To my knowledge, they never loved him the first time, it wasn't until he started treating them like shit that they actually liked it) They explained that with the fans behind him, the Rock was able to overcome the odds and make it to the Survivor Series and into the finals, to crown a new World Heavyweight Champion.

Survivor Series 11-15-98
WWE Championship(Final Round)
vs. Mankind

Rivalry with Mankind: After they showed the ending and the betrayal of the Rock toward the fans, it has a brief explanation of the Rock saying he never turned on them, they turned on him. (it was a promo, not Rock reviewing it) This went on into explaining that the Rock's "ratings" grew and so did his feuds with Mankind. It shows some of their in-between feuds from Rock Bottom, Raw, the Superbowl show, etc, etc.. and all of that lead to their Last Man Standing match.

St. Valenines's Day Massacre 2-14-99
Last Man Standing Match for WWE Title
vs. Mankind

So it continues... I think the title of this is pretty much self-explanatory. This was their last encounter regarding this feud. The winner would go on to face Steve Austin at Wrestlemania, the loser would well.. I don't know. They didn't say face the Big Show, but thats what the loser (aka Mankind) would end up with.

Two of the most Charismatic Superstars Ever: Finally, the first Discs review ends with the Rock's first Wrestlemania Main Event. It showed clips and highlights of Rock & Austin feuding, including the bridge scene where "Austin" gets punched off into the river. (Its so hilarious, even now, to see a "dummie" getting dropped into the river.) All of this, lead to Mania.

Wrestlemania XV 3-28-99
WWE Championship
vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin

Disc One Thoughts: No Rock. The Disc is ABOUT him, so was he too good to talk about himself? Surely thats not possible, I mean the guy is so stuck up these days, I'd figured the one thing he'd love to do is speak about himself. Well, unless Disc's Two and/or Three take a "Warrior" type turn for the worst. I can't see that happening, but damn that'd be hilarious. I can only see McMahon now, explaining how the Rock held his son Shane at gun-point, and forced McMahon to allow the Rock to talk in the 3rd person, or else.

All in all, the Hardy Boyz DVD was more exciting thus far than this collection of "The Great One's" matches. First and foremost, over half of these matches are more "Regular Televised" matches. Whats the point? Surely the Rock has had a greater match against Owen Hart, than the one that went 6 minutes and ended with a Chyna baseball bat to Owen's back.

Was it unbelievably hard for them to dig up some Nation of Domination "team" matches, in which it shows some of their better matches against D-X? I can sit here right now remembering one Raw match, that went a good 10-15, or longer minutes.. and was PACKED with action.. Rock & the Nation against DX. Great match, but nah.. I'll settle for seeing Owen at his worst moment, cause thats what I bought the DVD for.

Finally, I'm sure if I looked, I could find at least 10 other DVDs in which the Rock/Austin - Mania 15 match is on. I get that it was a huge moment, but couldn't it of been done in fricken HIGHLIGHT FORM?! Add other matches that AREN'T on the DVD for sakes, and highlight the ones that get put on every new release. I wouldn't be shocked to see Austin/Rock - Mania 15 end up on the "Best of Starrcade" DVD, simply because in W.W.E.'s eyes, it outshined more of those Pay Per Views and matches.

In closing to this Disc One review. Its apparent that on each DVD there is one major feud thats highlighted over and over. With Mysterio, it was his matches against Chavo Guerrero and Dean Malenko. (great feuds, albeit) Triple H. had Mankind and Steve Austin. When did Mick Foley suddenly become the "go-to" guy on DVDs whenever a match needs highlighted over and over?

The Rock has as many matches against Mankind on this DVD, as Mysterio had against Chavo. Whether hes against him, or teaming with him. Can Rock's career truly be summed up as "Mick Foley's tag-along?"

The review for Disc's Two and Three coming soon. Until then.. this DVD thus far is 4 outta 10 and thats only because I did enjoy the matches. The story, however, especially without Rock telling it.. sucks.

The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment

Disc Two Review: So I went ahead and decided to pop in Disc Two early, because I honestly had nothing else better to do at 2a.m. in the fricken morning. Now keep in mind, I didn't watch all the matches, but I did view the entire story and I'm pleased to tell you the voice-over guy remained whole, with the second of three discs down, and still no Rock. I honestly don't think hes coming guys.

People's Champion: The main focus on this, was that while the Rock had dropped his Heavyweight Championship on the biggest stage of them all, he remained confident that his skills were still the best. He'd been the Nation's ruler, the Corporate Rock, and now it was time for him to stand alone.. as the People's Champion.

If focused on how he had an issue with Shane McMahon screwing him out of the Championship at Backlash 1999, and how he was done with the mistakes. It then focused on Triple H. becoming the new Corporate head. (no mention of Taker as a co-anything, I might add) This lead to their steel cage match on Raw.

RAW 7-5-99
Steel Cage
vs. Triple H

Rock 'N Sock Connection: From here it explains that a rival from The Rock's past would return, but unlike before, he would return as a friend. It explains that it was indeed the same Mick Foley who had his head bashed in by repeated chair shots from the Rock, the same Mick Foley who went through hell with the Rock. Now, as a team, Mankind deemed them the "Rock 'N Sock Connection" and together, they'd go on to become Tag Team Champions.

RAW 8-30-99
WWE Tag Team Titles
w/Mankind vs. Undertaker & Big Show

The Verbal Smackdown!: This portion of the story explained that the Rock's catch-phrases were becoming household phrases used around the world. (They repeated multiple one-liners hes done) But none of them, would rival that of the single most dominate catch-phrase that would become so huge.. it earned a spot in the dictionary. (I shit myself when I found this out) I paused the DVD and ran to my dictionary, sure enough.. the word "Smackdown" is in there. Not only did the word become known for having an actual term in the dictionary, but the Rock's main catch phrase was also turned into the W.W.E.'s first nationally televised program. (I believe they meant for regular television, not cable or satellite.)

It gives no real explanation for why the next match takes place, other than to say the Rock would go on to face bigger and worse foes, but perhaps none greater than the challenge he faced from Kane. (yeah, I'm wording it a bit better, but thats more or less how they billed this filler match for his DVD -- all to plug Smackdown being "The Rock's" show.)

Smackdown 12-30-99
No Holds Barred Match
vs. Kane

McMahon-Helmsley Regime v. The Rock: Triple H. had went and married the bosses Daughter, and together they ruled the W.W.E. with an Iron Fist! (Wait, wasn't this The Rock's DVD?) Once Triple H. and Stephanie retired Mick Foley, they turned their focus on the one individual whom they dispised the most.. The Rock!

It more or less goes to explain more about the McMahon-Helmsley era than even the Triple H. DVD explained. I found that pretty hilarious. It explains that Triple H. and The Rock would renew their age-old rivalry, but this time.. Shane McMahon and the McMahon Family would be backing Triple H., while the Rock seemingly had.. noone.

Backlash 4-30-00
WWE Championship
vs. Triple H

The Following Night...: Unset and furious at the Rock becoming the W.W.E. Champion, Mr. McMahon vowed that The Rock would become known for having the shortest reign in history as Champion. On the following night on Raw, The Rock would take on Shane McMahon.. where Shane didn't need to fear being pinned or submitted, because it'd be inside a Steel Cage, where all Shane had to do.. was easily escape the steel structure.

RAW 5-1-00
Steel Cage Match for the WWE Championhip
vs. Shane McMahon

The Great One v. The Olympic Gold Medalist: They don't actually bury Kurt Angle, I'm impressed. This chapter of the story explains how The Rock would be matched by Kurt Angle. It goes on to explain how Angle defeated the Rock to become the W.W.E. Champion, and how the Rock never seemingly got the upper hand against Angle in all the times they've met.. but that'd all soon change.

No Way Out 2-25-01
WWE Championship
vs. Kurt Angle

The New Title: This part focused on more of his acting career taking off, yet it explains that The Rock still stayed true to his up-bringing and remained a very dedicated Professional Wrestler. It also explains that things were changing in the world of Pro Wrestling, as Mr. McMahon went out and bought his rival, W.C.W., and with it the W.W.E. was introduced to a number of new stars.. including, Booker T. the World Heavyweight Champion.

Summerslam 8-19-01
WCW Championship
vs. Booker T

The Undisputed Champion: After the Rock won the World Heavyweight Championship, they explained that the company was far too small to have two World Heavyweight Champions (:lmao: so 3 in today's world is okay?) and they'd have to merge the Two World Championships, to create one Undisputed Championship.

It explains Vengeance, and how Chris Jericho in one night defeated both The Rock, and Steve Austin. However The Rock refused to stay down..

Royal Rumble 1-20-02
WWE Undisputed Championship
vs. Chris Jericho

Disc Two Thoughts: Okay, so the matches are getting slightly better, but still I'm seeing a TON of televised matches and its half/half on t.v. matches to p.p.v. matches. I really think in Mr. McMahon's eyes he feels that while cable/satellite television isn't 'free' that hes giving away too much, since he isn't making Pay Per View sized paychecks off of these matches. SO, what hes done is packaged a ton of them onto random DVDs.. and he'll sell them for a quarter, or half of what a normal Pay Per View will run.. and sell them that way.

I mean, seriously lets think about this for just one second. When we're running down the highlights, the GREATEST moments of The Rock's Professional Wrestling career, do you mean to tell me no other match could fit this Pay Per View, to beat out the Shane McMahon/Rock - Cage match from Raw? Or the Rock/Mankind v. Big Show handicap, in which the voice-over guy clearly hasn't watched the match himself, as he refered to the match before, and after, as Rock & Mankind taking on the Big Show AND The Undertaker, when Taker clearly has no role in this match. I even recall a Buried Alive match from Smackdown, in which it could've replaced this match. So why didn't it?

The Rock v. Kane? Seriously. I get that Chris Benoit is more or less not even existant to them anymore, and sadly because of that we had to miss out on the great matches those two did have. However did they clearly forget the Rock's 2000 Royal Rumble victory as well? IT WASN'T EVEN MENTIONED!

To be honest, they've shafted The Rock in this DVD more than they did Kurt Angle. They literally made Kurt Angle look like a beast, as being undefeated against the Rock, time after time, after time.. except for their "final" encounter, inwhich The Rock finally won one. Then, directly following that they put Booker T. on the DVD as well. Was the second disc a hidden T.N.A. feature that I missed?!

I have to admit, I'm growing very upset with this DVD. The final Disc has 4 matches on it. One against Hogan, his final match against Austin, a 3-way when he won the Undisputed Championship just to hand it to Lesnar, and a televised match with Eddie Guerrero. Now before I make my final, Disc 3 review, can someone please explain to me why on earth half of these matches are even important in The Rock's career? Lets not jump ahead just yet.. stay with Disc Two..

Triple H. v. Rock, in a Cage. It was pointless, literally. Why not add their Fully Loaded match? Either one for that matter, 1998 in which it was a tie, or 1999 in which Triple H. won. Because I have to be honest, simply because The Rock won this match, it doesn't overshadow the fact that Triple H. "had it won" twice before.

I've already explained my theory on how stupid it was to show Mankind & Rock in a handicap match against the Big Show, instead they could've went with the Buried Alive match. I have absolutely NO clue why the Rock/Kane match was even used, except for to showcase Smackdown as being "his show." When they could've went with the very first episode, when Rock lost to Triple H., thanks to Shawn Michaels. That would've been great, since they've already buried the Rock in his own DVD by dishing out pointless matches otherwise.

The Kurt Angle, Booker T and Chris Jericho matches have reason. And furthermore, all of them are great. The rest are pure shit and serve no point. Especially Shane McMahon and the Cage match. I did NOT just pay $22.00 (yes, it was hired too) to see this piece of shit match. Certainly they could've found ONE MATCH from 2000 that was better than this match. I know for a fact I could list off several right now.

In closing, I'd rate this Disc, a 5 outta 10 once again merely because the matches were good, especially the closing portions of the DVD. However the amount of televised matches on this DVD tells me 1 of 2 things. One, McMahon is a cheap son of a bitch.. or Two, The Rock sucked ass when wrestling on Pay Per View. Disc Three's review coming within a day or two.

The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment

Disc Three Review: Okay, so I'm back with the third and final installment in TheOneBigWill's 'take' on The Rock DVD.

Icon vs. Icon: The story basically sets up as if the Rock had done everything, and his popularity had hit an all-time high, unmatchable by anyone of the present era. (Apparently Austin wasn't as popular?) However whenever someone from the present reaches the type of level The Rock rose to, its always questionable on if he'd ever be as good as the guy that preceded him.

In The Rock's case, he would soon find out as the n.W.o. had invaded the W.W.E., and the challenge was laid down. Hulk Hogan, wrestling's biggest name from the previous era against The Rock, wrestling's biggest name from the current era. Icon vs. Icon...

The Rock vs. Hollywood Hulk Hogan
WrestleMania X8 (17/03/02)

Triple Threat: After discovering which Icon was better than the other, (way to bury Hogan) The Rock returned his sights on the Undisputed Championship. The Rock had held the W.W.E. Championship, and the W.C.W. Championship.. but he had yet to be capable of saying he was an Undisputed Champion.

During this time, Kurt Angle & The Undertaker had a controversial ending, which also tied into the Rock realizing his next dream.. the Undisputed Championship. As a result, the match was made. Kurt Angle, The Rock & The Undertaker.. Triple Threat...

Triple Threat Match for the WWE Undisputed Championship
Kurt Angle vs. Undertaker vs. The Rock
Vengeance (21/07/02)

Just Bring It: After becoming the Undisputed Champion, The Rock discovered that he had yet another target on him. As being Champion meant the challenges would only get bigger, and the challengers would only become badder. Apparently none more challenging, than one random night on Raw.. when the unlikely challenge from W.W.E. Legend (the late) Eddie Guerrero. (way to bury Brock.)

The Rock vs. Eddie Guerrero
RAW (22/07/02)

Third Time's A Charm?: At this point in The Rock's career, he'd done everything, won multiple Championships, defeated every Icon, faced every challenge. (They showed clips of Chris Jericho, Kane, Undertaker, Hogan, Mick Foley & Triple H.)

But there was one thing The Rock had yet to do in his career, and that was defeat Stone Cold Steve Austin on the biggest stage of them all. The highlighted and recapped The Rock facing Austin from Wrestlemania 15 & 17. (FINALLY, WHY COULDN'T THEY OF DID THIS EARLIER?!) They showed the build-up to Wrestlemania 19, and they "movie" that they secretly made from it, well.. the highlights of The Rock & Austin part anyways. The match was made, Rock/Austin III.. would the third time finally be the charm The Rock was hoping for?

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock
WrestleMania XIX (30/03/03)

Transcending Sports Entertainment: Finally, The Rock has made it.. into the most elite spot of all in Professional Wrestling. A third generation Superstar, born into the business. A Superstar who had the ability to set-off the crowd each time his music hit. A man, who took Hollywood by storm and became a movie star. The Rock has done everything that a Professional Wrestler could ever hope to do, and then some. No doubt he'll one day end up in the Hall of Fame.

Disc Three Thoughts: To be honest, I feel as if I'm spamming because this disc had next to NO story and only set-up each match as a whole. Including the Eddie Guerrero match, in which they made it out to be his biggest challenge as Undisputed Champion. (completely ignoring Brock Lesnar.) They didn't bother showcasing his return to team with Mick Foley at Wrestlemania 20, as they apparently felt ending the DVD on his last (note-worthy) victory was the better way to go.

All in all, the Disc Three matches are likely the most notable, especially his victory over Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania. However the one issue I've always had with this, was who Hogan was at the time. You see, to slightly go off track for a second.. everyone claims Triple H. is bad with politicing and horrible with setting up the spotlight on himself, even in a losing effort. Well, the same could be said for Hulk Hogan in two ways.

1. The Rock did NOT defeat "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan, he defeated the heel Hollywood Hogan. The same heel that countless others had defeated prior. So in that, while The Rock holds two victories (one over the "face" version of Hollywood, albeit by cheating) the fact is.. The Rock still doesn't rightfully have a decent victory over the proper legacy that is Hulk Hogan.

2. My take on this. If they would've allowed a face v. face match-up, in which The Rock won the way he did at Wrestlemania, then it would've been better. However I believe that in his own right, Hulk Hogan would've never wanted this to happen, as he likely would've or could've seen it as beneath him to do. I can't say thats true in any stretch, but its what I believe.

It doesn't shock me that the vs. Eddie Guerrero on Raw match made it onto the DVD. This is just another way to promote the slowly building legend that is Eddie Guerrero, all while continuing to delete Chris Benoit from the world of Professional Wrestling. No offense to Eddie, but The Rock's matches with Chris Benoit were better and all because of a personal issue with real life, they opt to not showcase that. I think you need to draw a line between whats understandable and whats unforgivable.

What Benoit did in real life is unforgivable. What Benoit did in Professional Wrestling is understandable and should be remembered.

While I'm personally sick and tired of the Steve Austin/Rock rivalry, its understandable why their matches would be highlighted for each as they roughly made each other. Well, at least a portion. That being said, I've seen enough of their three main matches to last multiple lifetimes and if I never see any of them again, I won't lose sleep over it.

In closing regarding the story, quite frankly it sucked majorly. While The Rock not being on his own DVD to explain his career, even in a burying aspect the Ultimate Warrior DVD at least explained far more about his career than this one did about The Rock's. They started okay in explaining in-depth stuff, then turned into a "best of" DVD, in which the story only promoted the next match on the disc. It didn't explain hardly anything, through the story. So if this was meant to be a "best of" DVD, instead of a career retrospective, then why weren't we given even more matches and even less talking? Granted I already said I didn't want more Austin/Rock matches and I'm sure had it of had any more on the disc.. those would've been added.

The extras on the final disc, some of his "best" promos were and will always be true classics. So with that being said, I'll be very nice and rate the final disc 5 outta 10. With the whole disc being rated 6 outta 10, and even at that I'm being overly nice. Disc Two has the best matches out of the whole thing. Disc One has the most story you'll get, and Disc Three has the one-liners and promos that you'll love.

If you're wanting my advice on whether you should buy this DVD or not. I'd say only if you were a true wrestling fan, regarding The Rock, or the industry as a whole. If you're wanting it for anything special.. then I'm sure you can pass this one up, as they'll repackage it in two years with 3 extra matches, and possibly the Rock making a special appearance to simply say "Finally, The Rock has returned.. to DVD!"

Just read on WZ news site that the SummerSlam anthology will be out Aug 6. Fuck yes. This could be argued to be better than the Mania set.

Bret Hart Vs Mr.Perfect, IC title 91. Best match ive ever seen. my personal favorite ever.

Hart FOundation Vs Demolition best 2 out of 3 falls. Best tag team match ive ever seen.

Warrior Vs Rude, Cage match. HBK Vs Razor ramon, ladder match part 2. What will most likely be Hulk Hogan's last ever WWE match. Eddie Vs Rey ladder match. Probably a ton of shit I am forgetting at the moment. but I cant be bothered to go looking shit up right now. Im sure someone else will, and add to this. Anyway, I will for sure be picking this up. And I belive a debate can be held as to what one has more quality in them. The SummerSlam anthology, or the Mania anthology. Knee jerk reaction is to say Mania, but a lot of Manias have been total shit.

There is one major flaw I forsee that will ruin this entire Anthology for me. And thats the "mystery" of the disappearing Main Event from the 2004 Summerslam. I assume that they will remove Chris Benoit from his matches in the 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2005. While I could care less about the 24 second squash over Orlando Jordan.. his match with Randy Orton was historical.. so if its removed, I'll be pissed.

That not withstanding, I'm still crazed over the release of this DVD set. I haven't actually seen some Summerslam's from the very beginning, so I'm excited for those reasons. Its also been forever since seeing the 1991 Summerslam, and I'm a sucker for the romantic side of it.

Also, Summerslam 1992 from England. 1993 has some hidden personal favorite gems. The classic Taker v. Taker from 1994. 1995 had a great card, minus the Main Event. And I loved the H.B.K. v. Vader 1996 Main Event. Let me just say the entire early 90's collection is what I'm hyped the most for. I could care less about Summerslam 2003-on. Minus a few matches (the Benoit/Orton one to be exact) but I can NOT, can NOT, CAN NOT wait for this release.

I've already got all the Summer Slams. They've released up to 1999 in the Tagged Classics, and the rest have been released over the years. The TC also don't blur out the WWF, which ruins the vast majority of matches from 1998-2002. I'll get them, but unless they've got special features I'll never watch them.

Twist Of Fate: The Matt & Jeff Hardy Story:

Waste of my time. One of the most pointless DVD's from a fans perspective for a long time. The Ladder Match was released a few months ago. So that all but eliminates the truly classic Hardy matches. What your left with is some ok matches and a couple that you'd forgot had even taken place. The match selection really had me scratching my head. I know they wanted to do a dic per Hardy. But they should have added a third so at least a couple of their tag matches could be included. Cage match with E & C, first tag title win, battle royal win from post Mania Raw, Matt vs. Jeff match. There's a couple there. While not great, would have added a little more to the set.

The Hardys also aren't intresting enough to require documentaries. In fact not even somebody like Hogan is, Flair isn't, HBK isn't. They are just wrestlers the only ones I can think that are intresting are the drug addled ones. Jeff Hardy's music is also shit.

TNA The Best Of Jeff Hardy: Enigma:

Had it for years. Yet only just decided to watch it. Around January I thought that Jeff really had improved. Not true. I'm an inadvertent Randy Orton fan. This dics is ok. I'm also an inadvertent Monty Brown & Abyss fan.

TNA The Best Of Raven: Nevermore:

Lots of blood in this.

Out in September in England. I really don't see the point of this. Yeah he was good, but is he really worthy of his won DVD set? I don't think so. The only thing of real intrest is his death. Other than that you can talk about his father for a little bit, his matches, and how he really had a short career in WWE wrestling wise. There's nothing about the documentary that sounds terribly intresting. All seems kind of pointless to me. I'll buy it for the fact that I buy ever WWE DVD, and the matches are quality. Also the Rap Is Crap music video is on the disc.

WrestleMania XXIV:

Bought it yesterday. I won't pay for any show on Box Office. Why pay £15 to watch the show when I can just buy the DVD 3 months or so later? It's pretty pointless. If I'm really intrested I'll steal it from somewhere. But most of the time I can't be bothered. I'd much prefer to wait, and enjoy it on a larger screen. the only match from this show which I'd made an effort to find and watch was the Flair/HBK match. Only because people were claiming it was the best match of the year. I knew they were wrong, so I watched it. Watching it on the net really enhances the match. I was being overly nice when I said it was average. The match is awful. Watching it on my TV really shows how crap it is, along with how poor the overall reaction to it was. Maybe you can blame the open air stadium. But if that's the case why did Matt Hardy, Kane, C.M. Punk and the main event matches get equal, if not more of a reaction? When I watched the match on the net it was literally just the match, no long walk up to the back from Flair. The retirement will be remembered for years to come, but it's not as special as I thought it would be.

Match of the night easily was Mayweather vs. Big Show. It's obviousl that it was planned down to the last detail. But each wresstler and member of Team Mayweather played their role perfectly.

Both the world title matches are pretty good. I'm still not seeing how Edge/Undertaker is the best match of the year so far, like a lot of people have said. But it was still good.

The MITB was ok. Noting but spots. Nobody made an impact in that match like Punk, Kennedy & Hornswoggle did last year. But it's ok. It's one of those matches that would be enhanced if you'd watched it at the time. The outcome is what makes it. But if you know it, then watch, the match is nothing more than ok.

BunnyMania is crap. But nobody expected it to be good. It's no worse than Flair/HBK though. Difference being that one is overhyped, the other gets the reviews it deserved. The Belfast Brawl could have been better. JBL has bitch tits on a high def TV. Not noticed that before. The ECW match is great. Nothing wrong with a short match like that.

Overall I think the open air arena was a poor choice. No match had the sort of reaction it normally would. But it did look nice. If this is the PPV of the year, it get's that award because PPVs so far have been pretty poor. It's a good show, but not great.

"Nature Boy" Ric Flair: The Definitive Collection

Disc 1: Documentary

This in my opinion is one of the best documentaries that the WWE has ever produced on a wrestler. I have read the Ric Flair book, but I must say it was very nice to see it portrayed on my television. It's better to see the emotion along with the story. You get to see everything. From him breaking into the business, to his territory days, onto the plane crash, through his legendary fueds with Sting and Steamboat. Then onto the politics in WCW and how he felt about it. To his glorious return to the WWE, and the restoration of his self pride. This documentary is truly golden.

The special features are nice too. A little on the short side but they were decent.

Overall Rating: 10/10

Disc 2: The Matches

I'm not going to go into every match. I will basically sum up that the first Flair DVD had all of his good matches. This one has some decent ones with Jack Brisco, Kerry Von Erich, A 6 man Tag, and Terry Funk.

The Good Matches involve him and Sting and Harley Race. Still not as good as the first DVD but its still not too shabby. Also a little short on the match side, but what can you do.

Overall Rating: 8/10

Disc 3: Matches and Special Features

Some More decent matches, only 4 but that doesnt matter to me at this point. I have already got a great DVD. The Highlight in my hones opinion is the Farewell Address. It is there in its entirety, complete with the Undertaker. and Vince McMahon coming out. As a Ric Flair fan I am so happy to have this forever on DVD. I watched it again with those same tears in my eyes as I did when I saw it on Raw. Truly great stuff.

Then there are a few interviews, where all I can say is Classic Naitch. thats what they are. Great Promo's by a man that has set the bar.

Overall Rating: 9/10 Just for the farewell address alone.

Overall Thoughts:

I am so glad I bought this. I don't think my collection would look right without it. I recommend anybody to buy it. Especially if you are a Flair Fan. If you are not maybe you will come to respect him after watching it. The Whole DVD set gets an 8.5/10 from me.

Defining A Career

I'm not too intrested in this. Looking over it the last two discs don't appeal to me. Some of them are fine. But there's nothing on them that makes them worth watching for the 30th time. And as a lot are so recent they were only released a couple of years ago. The first disc appeals to me more. Only because I can't remember the Raw ones and I haven't seen the Armageddon one since it happened. But overall it's one of those sets that will make most people all excited. But I could happily live without 3 discs of the same gimmick.

The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment

When I got the set I was looking forward to watching it. I was never the biggest Rock fan. But there were enough Raw matches on here that I hadn't seen in years that I was really looking forward to watching it. So on Monday I bought it, and spent the whole day watching it. It was piss porr. If you excuse all the quality matches, about 4 of them, everything else is pointless. My initial thought about the Raw matches was that all the HHH matches would be on the Triple H DVD. But they weren't, so I'm not really sure where they are. So instead of the good HHH matches we get the pointless ones. Really this set is awful. The reason I'd forgotten about all the Raw matches is because most of them weren't remembering.

Once you've seen one Rock match you've seen them all. Nothing on here intrested me. Although I admit that certain matches had been on other sets before so I didn't want to watch them again. No need to see the Foley ones, as I'd watched them a dozen times each. So while they add to the quality of the DVD, they didn't add to my enjoyment.

The Rock isn't going to wrestle again, so why isn't this a definitive set? So the Mania 17 match has been on lots of set, but in several years time when I haven't watched it in a while I can look back at this DVD and think it's really good. But really what I'll look back on is how incomplete it is.

W01426pi.jpg

Terrible book. I guess it's ok if you're intrested in that American Football stuff. But I'm not. As at least a third is dedicated to the sport I couldn't wait to finish those chapters. Bored the hell out of me. After a bit of territory talk on comes the bit I've been waiting for. The Million Dollar Man. Pile of shit. All wrapped up in about 40 pages. Pintless. Then a bit of WCW, then just as much on religion. A crippling disappointment.

Nature Boy Ric Flair: The Definitive Collection:

Not really definitive. It is if it's with the other DVD, but on it's own it's far from it. The best matches are on the first set. These are good, but the two WWE matches are crap. The HHH match is pointless. I don't know why it's on this set. His Ortin cage match is miles better. I can undertand why the HBK Mania one is on, but it's not a good match.

The doc isn't terribly intresting either. It improves with the WWE bits. But I've seen all the rest on the Dusty Rhodes, WCCW & AWA DVDs. So it was nothing new. Ric Flair isn't intresting enough for this documentary. Or maybe he is. But for some reasn there really aren't any of those legendary stories that you hear about. They would have improved the set greatly.

WWE did a great job with the Ric Flair weekend. I don't get all the crying. But they did a really good job. Ric Flair appeared important for a couple of days. But the Austin one should be grander.

Overall it's a good set. But if Flair was a legend to the end how come there aren't many matches from 2002 to 2008?

WWE Live In The UK:

Normal WWE TV shows. Some bad some good. Only on DVD in the hope it'll sell to the people who went. I can't even remember if I went.

The Life And Times Of Mr. Perfect - I'm a fan of the guy, but I just don't know why he'd need his own DVD. I'm not complaining, the matches are great. And I hop it's a trend, I'd love to see some sets on Rick Rude, Big Boss Man, Ted Dibiase, and other wrestlers who were good, but not really big enough for their own DVD.

But overall the documentary is poor. The main attraction for me, and most wrestling DVD's, is the death, and you get very little information. It's intresting, as most of them are. But I found it all to be a bit pointless.

Hell In A Cell: The Greatest Hell In A Cell Matches Of All Time - The most overrated gimmick match of all time. Most of them are solid, but solid in a gimmick match really isn't an achievement. This set is nothing more than ok. The best was the first, so it's been downhill since then. That must be why people get so excited about the Edge/Undertaker match. It's good, and a lot better than the past couple, but it's by no means a classic.

I'm surprised more people haven't talked about this. The Ladder Match DVD was a hot topic for a week or so, with people talking about how good it was.

I was a fan of the Hell in a Cell DVD mostly because they have matches from RAWs that I completely forgot about. Also the Armageddon match was great just because the star power in the match....Well with the exception of Rikishi. It had the Rock, Austin, HHH, The Undertaker. I couldn't Imagine the WWE now taking their top stars and putting them all in the same match.

The Armageddon match is good. But it's pointless to have it in the Cell. More than half the match takes place outside of the Cell, and with that ammount of star power it just wasn't needed. It's like having an Elimination Chamber match today with Undertaker, Triple H, Batista, HBK, Cena & Edge. It would be pointless, half of those wrestlers are enough to make the match more intresting that usually, the gimmick doesn't add anything. But they had enough talent at their disposal at that time.

I think the point of having it in the cell was so more blood would be shed from their top stars. You're right on about the WWF having enough talent at the time to put all their top stars in a match together.

I think that match was more about the spectacle in a way. There are some great shots of all the wrestlers on top of the cell fighting at once which is pretty cool to see.

I haven't gotten through all the matches yet but so far I've enjoyed all of them on there and there are quite a few I have never seen due to the fact that I didn't watch wrestling for a few years at one point.

This set and ladder match are probably some of the best DVD sets the WWE has ever put out in my opinion.

Summer Slam 1991

So I've been watching the first two volumes of the Summerslam Anthology (In No particular order) and have decided to post my review of the most recent one I watched. Summerslam 1991.

Now as a kid I can remember the whole Macho Man/Elizabeth Angle pretty well and the small recap they showed before the Wedding was a great memory refresher. Hearing the Macho Man say "ELIZABETH" like nine times before he "proposed" was classic.

Anyway onto the event...

The British Bulldog The Dragon Ricky Steamboat and The Texas Tornado vs. The Warlord and Power and Glory

The match itself is nothing special and is actually probably the weakest on the card. Steamboat is way past his prime here and Power and Glory are just bad. However the Texas Tornado looked good in the match. The only plus is this match isn't too long. So bonus points for that. Bulldog Dragon and Tornado pick up the win.

Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect for the IC title.
Often times when a match is as hyped by SMARKS as this one is it usually doesn't live up to the hype. (ie Macho Man vs. Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania 3) But this one lives up to the hype and then some. Perfect takes insane bumps in this match and Bret Hart really puts on a great show here. If I were to nitpick the only minor complaint I have is that Mr. Perfect taps to the Sharpshooter before bret even fully locks it in. Overall though an amazing match by these two.

The Natural Disasters vs. the Bushwhackers
Not a great match but entertaining. A little sad to see how bad Andre is moving around here as he was in the corner of the Bushwhackers. Despite this match being pretty below average Luke and Butch always entertained me. Disasters pick up the win here.

Virgil vs. The Million Dollar Man for the Million Dollar Belt
This match entertained the hell out of me. Virgil actually puts on a great match in this one and it has some good drama filled moments. Million Dollar Man really gives Virgil a beating before his eventual comeback too. A slightly annoying part where the Ref calls for a DQ due to interference by Sherri but then re starts the match. If the ref has the authority to do that when doesn't he do that all the time? Virgil picks up the win and gets a big pop from the crowd when he gets the pin.

The Big Boss Man vs. The Mountie. Loser spends the night in jail.
This match was average but whats great is the aftermath. The Mountie is awesome at selling the whole going to jail thing and it makes me laugh every time as the PPV goes on we get to see more and more of him in jail. The funniest part is when he refuses to get his picture taken but the Police Officer says "I Heard the Bossman kicked your butt" He looks up and say "WHAT?" then a flash for the picture being taken. Great Story and angle here.

The Legion of Doom vs. The Nasty Boys for the WWF Tag Titles.
This was probably the best match The Nasty Boys ever had. Crowd is into this one the whole way and when LOD won the belts there was a HUGE pop from the crowd. Its sad that the Tag Titles don't mean as much as they used to.

IRS vs. Greg the Hammer Valentine
Don't ask my why the WWF always put random matches on PPVs without any build up but this one was bad. Just a filler before the main event. IRS gets the win.

Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior vs. Sgt. Slaughter General Adnan and Colonel Mustafa
This was a horrible main event but at least the crowd seemd into it. Its a shame too because SummerSlam 91 was a good event and probably one of the best overall summerslams. Hogan picks up the win after throwing powder in Slaughters eyes and the leg drop. Then we get a slightly homo erotic pose off with Hogan and Sid Justice after the match.

Macho Man Elizabeth Wedding.
I watched it and man it was cheesey. But when I was younger I thought it was great and I guess that's who the WWF was targeting at the time. I'll probably never watch it again but the music videos for Macho and Liz made me laugh.

Overall this Summerslam is one of the better ones. Great commentary by Bobby Hennan and Rowdy Piper and overall I'll give this Summerslam 3 out of 4 stars.
Check it out.

Oddly enough, I just watched this one the other night as well.

since you said it all, ill just add a litte.

The little known fact about the Hart Vs Perfect match was that Perfect had a severe back injury going into it, the reason they called for the bell so quickly after Bret locked up the shooter was to protect perfect. It was at Bret's request, as he was thankfull for Perfect even showing up against doctors orders. My favorite match of all time, and one I can say I truly belive is the best match of all time. It stacks up against anything.

The disasters Vs the Whackers, and Valentine Vs IRS are both classic old school WWE filler, and I sorta enjoy seeing the random matches just thrown in there.

While the match was butt ass ugly, agreed on a fine atmosphere for the LOD Vs Nasties encounter. The crowd was utterly on fire for this match, even if it was snooze inducing for me persoanlly.

And true, the tag match at the end wasnt particularly beautiful, but watching Hulkster whip the shit out of the iraqi sympathizers just never really gets old. And I luaghed at myself for seeing Hogan rip off Sid's shirt at the end, and seeing absolutely nothing homo about it. THATS HULK GOSH DAMN FUCKIN HOGAN SON. Also the great heel tactis of the continual back rakings by the bad guys was awesome. ahhhh good ol old school WWF. :)

The mountie goes to jail may very well be the funniest thing that has ever happened on WWE PPV. just great. Full agreed on the part were he looks up and gets his picture taken :lmao:

knockoutsdvd.jpg

Knocked Out: Pro Wrestlings Greatest Women’s Division

I always thought it was called the Knockout division, not the Knocked out division. I guess I was wrong. One good thing about my copy of this DVD is the cover, long gone is Karen Angle and in come Christy Hemme.

If this DVD tought me one thing is that TNA really does a great job of advertising the WWE females. With the constant grapic saying ''Why are the TNA females better than the competition?'', or something like it, popping up I was curious to know in what way they are. Turns out that not one of them can verbally give a compelling argument as to why.

TNA could point out to the great Kong vs. Kim matches, which they do. But WWE could point out that they promoted that match until it was dead and buried. TNA could point out how their division is one of there most popular aspects of iMPACT, WWE could point to the fact that nobody really watches iMPACT. Overall it's just TNA talking shit.

Gail Kim is great, so TNA say. I don't doubt. Best femal wrestler in America they say, I don't doubt it for a second. Good job she's in TNA I guess....wait.

One of the problems with TNA is that they've got no real history. Certainly mot with women. This is their second DVD in three years. They've only had a women's division for just over a year. The good matches, are on PPV. So if you've bought those DVD's then you aren't seeing anything new. The other matches were on iMPACT for free a couple of months ago, why would you buy them?

Overall the original Knockout DVD is better, because it's mostly TNA Diva's In New York. That was a poor rip off of a WWE DVD, this isn't even that.

The female matches in TNA might be better overall, and The Beautiful People might have more personality than the whole of the Diva's roster combined. But WWE has variety. WWE Diva's have their time for a few months and then they step down. TNA Knockouts are on TV each week, in exactly the same matches and situations, week in and out.

The Best Of The Intercontinental Championship: 1979-2008 - The problem with this set is that like the WWE Championship one, fans voted for the matches. As a result a lot of the matches overlap from other sets, it's almost like watching a TNA DVD. Even so it's still very good. The title at one point was important, even now when the belt is worth shit, there is still the odd quality match.

I found disc one to be the more intresting towards the beginning. The matches towards the end are great for the most part, but they've been on so many other sets that I didn't need to see them again. The only problem was that the style of matches can get a bit boring after two none stop hours.

Disc two is fine, but there aren't any hidden gems like you usually get on a set like this. If you can think of any good or intresting matches from the 90's then they're on here.

Disc three is probably the most intresting of the lot, not necessarily the best. Most of the disc is made up of forgotten matches, or good but unremarkable matches.

Overall it's solid.

Viva La Raza! The Legacy of Eddie Guerrero -

It's a little bit pointless, most of the best matches were on his first DVD. But there's enough on the first disc to make this worth buying. Every single match on this disc is good to great. Disc two is pretty good as well, his early WWE matches aren't of the same quality of his WCW ones, but they're still worth a look. I'd forgotten how good his Smackdown match with Edge was. The third disc is crap. Full of poor matches with JBL & Rey Mysterio, and several good ones with Angle. Nothing special at all. The tribute shows are fine I guess.

Overall it's a lot better than I expected. Both Eddie & Flair have had 6 discs dedicated to them, given the option of owining either I'd have to go for Guerrero's two sets.
