You seem to hate every DVD that the WWE comes out with yet you still watch purchase and review them. Why even watch the WWE/F if you hate it so much or think everything is "shit"?

You need to pay more attention. I don't hate every DVD that comes out. But I'll say what's bad about each DVD. I give plenty of positive reviews.

The Greatest Superstars Of WrestleMania:

Rubbish selection of matches. It focus' on 11 superstars. Hogan, Batista, HBK, Undertaker, Edge, Bret Hart, The Rock, John Cena, Rey Mysterio, HHH & Steve Austin. Each have plenty of quality Mania matches. I was kinda under the impression that this would be the best Mania matches of each superstar.

Hogan vs. Sgt Slaughter:
No I might be mistaken. But isn't this one of his worst matches? Why not a bigger one, vs. Andre. Or maybe better, vs. Randy Savage. Or bigger & better, vs. The Ultimate Warrior.

Batista vs. Triple H:
Ok so he's not had many. This is fine.I think it's poor. But the Evolution vs. Rock 'n' Sock isn't that memorable, and they probably don't want the Taker one on yet another DVD.

HBK vs. Chris Jericho:
I totally agree with this choice. It was either this or the Angle one.

Undertaker vs. Randy Orton:
Overrated in my opinion. But he's hardly had many quality Mania matches.

Edge vs. Mick Foley: It's a good match. It was this or one of the Ladder ones. Correct choice here. Why isn't Mick Foley one of the wrestlers profiled on this disc?

Bret Hart vs. Youkozuna: Come on. It's better than most Yokozuna matches. But the best Bret Hart Mania match? Not a chance.

The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan:
I don't like it, but I understand why it's on here.

John Cena vs. JBL:
All of Cena's Mania matches have been average. May as well put the shortest on here.

Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton vs. Kurt Angle:
It would have been great if it was longer. But it's a short match. There's also no real rason for Re to be showcased on this disc.

Triple H vs. Chris Jericho: This is just really average. But HHH is an average wrestler so what do you expect.

Steve Austin vs. The Rock: From Mania 15. Any of their three would have worked.

Overall:

The matches are varied. Some are good, but it would have been so much better if they'd chosen better matches. It could have been a must have set.

The Greatest Superstars Of WrestleMania:

Rubbish selection of matches.

Ha very positive indeed Jake.

Back to part two of Wrestlemania reviews!

Wrestlemania 11- Pretty lame card. Although I think the HBK/Diesel Match is underrated. I read in Shawns book they had a big issue with having Diesel hard kick out of the superkick because the crowd would hate it. I didn't remember that at all but was suprised when the crowd did boo when Diesel hard kicked out.

Wrestlemania 12- What I enjoyed most about this Wrestlemania was it felt like a big event. The build up to the iron man match was great and I even loved how they had the guys stare down while Earl went over the rules. A great match that told a great story. Piper vs. Goldust was hilarious especially all the potatoes Piper hit Goldust with. Taker vs. Diesel also entertained me.

Wrestlemania 13- I wasn't a huge fan of this PPV and still am not. The Bret Austin match was good but other than that no dice for me.

Wrestlemania 14- Yet another Mania that actually felt like a big event. Austin/HBK was a great match despite what many think and there was really no need for Tyson to be there. Taker vs. Kane was the best out of all their matches and the return of L O D was a nice suprise.

Wrestlemania 15- Not a very good card minus the main event. Also the Shane McMahon montages were classics. I also enjoyed Bart Gunn getting knocked out.

Wrestlemania 16- Best thing about this PPV was the Tag ladder match and the fact that HHH retained.

Wrestlemania 17- I wasn't impressed with many matches on the card although I liked TLC and Rock/Austin.

Wrestlemania 18- All I can say about this one was Hogan/Rock should have main evented. HHH/Jericho put on a good match but it didn't have the main event feel.

Wrestlemania 19- Solid Card for the most part. Angle/Brock delievered, Jericho/HBK stole the show, Vince/Hogan entertained.

Wrestlemania 20- I havent watched this one in a couple years so I'll get back to you. I remember it being nothing special.

Wrestlemania 21- This mania is great because of Orton/Taker and Michaels/Angle. Nothing else stood out though which sucks because the card looked pretty decent on paper.

Wrestlemania 22- I loved this mania. HHH/Cena was a horribly sloppy match but it was great because of the crowd. Mickie James/Trish was a rare gem for womens matches, Foley/Edge in an amazing hardcore brawl, Vince/HBK was the show stealer, and the triple threat match entertaind the hell out of me.

Wrestlemania 23- I liked how this mania had the huge show feel to it. The battle of the billionares didn't take too much away from the main event between HBK and Cena which was a good match I thought. Taker/Batista was good but not the great match everyone thinks it is. MITB was probably the worst out of the three so far though.

Wrestlemania 24-??? Let's hope for some good matches and as little Floyd Mayweather as possible.

Triple H, King Of Kings

I really enjoyed this DVD, but thats not to say im totally pleased with it. It pissed me off that they did the DVD in the style of the "Foley, hits&misses" DVD. It really seems like they just totally gloss over his whole carreer, which is aggravating, especially since a lot of the stories seem really funny, Like the beginnings of DX, and when Trips won KOTR. I dont understand why one disc cant be "the story" and another disc be "wrestler talks about the match, and what surrounded it, then show match"....I really dont get why they cant do that, or figure it out, becuase it seems as if we could get a much, much better product that way. I thoroughly enjoyed The Foley HIAC, and the best 2 of 3 falls with HBK. Both are matches that ive never had the pleasure of veiwing before, and they were both awesome. I also really enjoyed the RR of 2002, it was pretty intensely entertaining IMO. Sad thing is, this DVD kinda proves a lot of peoples point that Triple H thrives mostly off of gimmick matches, especially at this point in his carreer.

Pretty good DVD if your interested in some pretty good matchs. If you are more interested in The story of Triple H and his carreer, then you will come away somewhat dissappointed.

A NWO DVD : One of the best heel factions the wrestling world hase ever seen I think deserves one.

Kane DVD : Hes been loyal to the company for 10 years and deserves some respect and he has very interesting storylines in his career.

Attitude Era DVD Complication : Self Explanatory.

" WWE's 100 Greatest Wrestlers Ever " : That would be awesome

Deceased WWE Superstars DVD : To pay respects

Chris Jericho DVD : The most charismatic wrestler WCW or WWE has ever seen and one of the best technical wrestlers ever, he sure as hell deserves one

WCW DVD : Even though it was fucked up, WCW was a great company sometimes and if it wasnt for WCW, then WWE wouldnt be where it is today

WWE Behind the Scenes : A DVD to show how everything is created in WWE

Those are just some DVDs I think they should make

Kane DVD : Hes been loyal to the company for 10 years and deserves some respect and he has very interesting storylines in his career.

You are joking. That would be one short DVD. What has he done since 1997 other than have his mask removed?

Attitude Era DVD Complication : Self Explanatory.

You want WWE to put out a DVD of the Attitude Era? Then what subsequent DVD's would you like to see them put out? That would eliminated about 1/3 of the WWE material that fans are intrested in seeing.

" WWE's 100 Greatest Wrestlers Ever " : That would be awesome

It's a bit broad don't you think. 100 wrestlers = a possible 100 matches.

Deceased WWE Superstars DVD : To pay respects

Nobody would buy a Junk Yard Dog DVD. If they're big enough stars then they'll goe one in the end.

Chris Jericho DVD : The most charismatic wrestler WCW or WWE has ever seen and one of the best technical wrestlers ever, he sure as hell deserves one

That DVD would suck. I like Jericho. But he hasn't been witty on the mic since his debut for WWE. And his WWE matches have all been pretty average.

WCW DVD : Even though it was fucked up, WCW was a great company sometimes and if it wasnt for WCW, then WWE wouldnt be where it is today

Agree. The rise and fall of WCW is far more intresting than the Rise and Fall of ECW.

WWE Behind the Scenes : A DVD to show how everything is created in WWE

This is as close as you'll get.

I would like to see another Bret Hart DVD, because as most of know he could have put a ton of more matches in his DVD in 2005 but couldnt due to time restraints. They could have Bret talk about each individual match or have him commentate on them

Norcal, if you can find it still, try to get the Game DVD from 2002. Triple H is more candid in that DVD and it goes a little more into his backstory.

I'm only through disc 1, and must say, I understand the two disc set, but it really glosses over a lot of stuff. It's real quickly paced. On a side note, NorCal, where the hell have you been hiding if you haven't seen the Foley Hell in the Cell? The 3 Stages of Hell is good as well, but the Austin one was much better.

Anyways, nothing really surprises me about this first disc at this point. A two disc set you're not going to get everything on it. I'm really surprised that he credited Marc Mero with becoming a ring general. Mr. Perfect was amazing for Triple H's career, and it's sad to see him dead and the WWE completly misuse him at the end of his run in 1996. Terrible that they let him go.

So I'll have my complete review when I finish the set. It seems decent, but not great to this point. The first disc does nothing but prove what I've said all along, without Mick Foley, Triple H would have been nothing. This is completely evident that 3 of the matches on disc one feature Mick Foley. Mick Foley was the MVP of the attitude era and the reason guys like Trips, Undertaker, Rock, and Austin were so good.

The Legacy Of ''Stone Cold'' Steve Austin:

Pretty good set. Obviously some things are missing. But you don't need to have certain matches on every single DVD that comes out. That being said I would have structured it differently. I would have made it 4 disc. 1st all WCW. I felt that three matches just isn't enough. I know more people care about Stone Cold rather than Stunning Steve. But it's still an important part of his career. 2nd disc would be all of his ECW matches and his career up until KOTR 1996. The final two would be from 1996-2003.

There isn't really much to say on it. I like the way if was presented. There is no need for documentarys on most wrestlers. HBK & Cena aren't more intresting than Austin. There's just no need for it. But a brief comment before each match works loads better, it also means there is less shit to watch. Which I'm all for.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ill probably check that out. Watch the extras, and Trips's first pro match, he and JR basically just piss on it the whole time its on through commentary, its pretty damn funny. And the foley HIAC happened back when I used to be really poor, and couldnt watch PPV. Ive only been a regular PPV veiwer since WM 21, and the foley HIAC isnt on any other DVDs to my knowledge.

Is No Way Out 2000 not on DVD? I ordered that one because I used to order only the Road to Wrestlemania PPV's and can tell you that if its on DVD it worth buying. That match was great but it has some other good matches to. Angle vs Jericho opens the event with a pretty solid match.

I was but trying to find DVDs that old is kinda tricky, I found it on video awhile back, that PPV had like 12 matches on it, some of them were just completly ******ed, Tazz vs. Bossman, Mark Henry vs. Viscera?, why these matches ever made PPV is beyond me

Acutally the Henry Viscera match didn't make it on the original broadcast due to technical failures aka act of god. I still thought it was an event worth buying, especially if you liked Wrestlemania 2000 and/or Royal Rumble 2000. That years Road to Wrestlemania was pretty good. The only thing I didn't like is that it was 99% for sure that the Rock was gonna win the Rumble and that killed the suspense.

Lucky for me, I have every WWE Pay Per View on tape or DVD. I've been watching since WM 2 and watched every PPV from there until Summerslam 1994, and then Survivor Series 96 to current day. Needless to say, I have watched a shit load of wrestling, that's minus the ECW and WCW pay per views I have. I don't need 24/7, I am 24/7, plus a major loser.

The Rock DVD looks interesting. I am getting damn sick and tired of throwing Eddie Guerrero in any damn dvd they get a chance. Seriously, a six minute match against Austin when the Benoit match was amazing. And now, The Rock vs. Eddie Guerrero, god gag me, let the man rest in peace.

From the time I watched my first event, Halloween Havoc 1994, I saw only 3 PPVs from then, until WM 21. The only ones Ive missed since then was ONS 2007, and NWO 2007. I watched RAW and SD! every week besides sparce missings, from July 2004 til WM 21 for occupational reasons. And I went and rented EVERY WWE ppv from 94 on back, and then the new ones when they came out in the video store. I had to see EVERY PPV event that had happened after I saw that first video, becuase I was absolutely addicted after that.

My first wrestling showMain Event was Ric Flair Vs Hulk Hogan in a steel cage

Is anyone else excited about The Rock's new DVD?

Like many of you, I have a vast collection of WWE DVDs. From 1995 on, I have about 90% of the PPVs that have been released, witha few extra DVDs too (like superstar documentaries, Monday Night Wars, etc.)

But the thing that's cool about Rock's new DVD, is a lot of the matches on it are stuff not on PPVs. Like a lot of the matches are from RAW and SmackDown!, which I think is bad-ass because I obviously don't own those matches.

I can't wait until it comes out.

Is anyone else excited about The Rock's new DVD?
I am indeed. Some real gems on there, and those RAW/Smackdown matches which aren't easy to come by in great quality will be a real treat.

The only match I really wish they'd put on the DVD is the Iron Man match with Triple H from Judgement Day. I have it on VHS, but the quality is a little grainy and the audio isn't exactly great.

Is No Way Out 2000 not on DVD?
It was never released on DVD, only VHS. Only the 'big five' PPV's from 2000 along with a few superstar documentaries were released on DVD.

Triple H: King of Kings.

Disc 1. Pretty much I summed up what I felt about this in an earlier post, but this disc does nothing but reaffirm my beliefs in Triple H. Without Mick Foley, Triple H would be nothing, as evident with 3 of the matches being matches Foley made him look like God.

Disc 2: Again, pretty much what Norcal said, if you like Triple H, then it reaffirms how good he is. If you don't like him, it reaffirms that without gimmick matches, Triple H is incredibly plain in the ring, (since the quad injury). This disc does nothing but put over Flair, HBK, and Batista, whoopy doo.

The only thing I sort of chuckled at was his candid conversation with Cena after their first match. Cena asked what Trips thought Trips Said he sucked, which was true. Cena was terrible around WM 22. That being said, he does admit Cena has pretty thick skin and has grown a lot since then, which I agree with as well.

The only thing really noteworthy is his praise of Edge, which that, coupled with "The Heels" book I am currently reading, fully makes me believe that Edge vs. Triple H is going to be the Main event of Wrestlemania 25. Trips praises Edge on the DVD, and Flair does nothing but praise Edge in the book, so me thinks that is certainly on the Horizon.

Finally got around to getting the Stone Cold DVD. Probably the best wrestling DVD I own. It certainly blows the Shawn Michaels DVD out of the water. The first disc was awesome. As someone who was never really exposed to Stunning Steve Austin, I was actually pretty shocked at how good a wrestler he was in comparison to the brawler he primarily became in later years.

Then "the later years" kick in - after his infamous ECW shoot and an ECW match where he's clearly the best guy in there. The great wrestling is gone, but in it's place is why Stone Cold became popular in the first place...as well as an awesome match with Shawn Michaels. I like how Austin admits he wasn't as exciting in-ring in Michaels but doesn't make himself look like crap in the process. It's a delicate balance and he really gets it.

Minor complaints are when the fingers and blurred and swear words - including "god damn"? That's news to me! - are cut out. It's an 18 DVD, why go about trying to ruin it?

i think the wwe should do a best ot tag teams from the 80's and early 90's featuring teams like demolition, the rockers, the beverly brothers, the natural disastors, money inc., the legion of doom, the bushwackers, the dream team, strike force, the powers of pain, the fabulous rougeau brothers, the new foundation, high energy, the nasty boys, and rythem and blues

The Best Of Raw: 15th Anniversary 1993-2008:

This is what I did with most of Monday. It wasn't a terribly exciting day.

First off. The cover. It says triple disc set + bonus disc. Why not just put 4 discs? Really, I just found that kind od pointless. And why is Cena on the cover? I know he's currently a big part of the roster. But he's not been an important part of Raw so far. Where is Mick Foley? If WWE wanted current superstars on the cover they already had Taker, HBK & HHH. Aust should have also been center stage. It's just a monor gripe.

Also where was the Eddie & Owen tribute shows? I know this is a best of. But they were both pretty important. And pertty much because of Benoit there is a lack of Eddie.

I enjoyed the first disc most. Probably because I'd forgotten most of it. Only problem us that the Perfect/Flair match isn't the classic I remember as a 9 year old. But back then I didn't know that Flair was leaving WWE. But there are some other matches that I couldn't remember that more than made up for it. It's a shame Sean Waltman is such a loser. The one problem I have with this section is that is overloaded. It's all down hill after this disc.

Disc 2 is fine. But it's dominated with Austin. I know why it's there. It should be there. But I've seen it hundreds of times. It's hard to find entertainment in it anymore.

Disc three is pretty poor. It's the same problem as disc 2. It's all familar, but this time it's wasn't even that great the first time. The ending is an anti climax. HBK returning was a surprise I guess. But he'd only been gone a few months. They could have used Jericho's return had it not been such a dissapointment.

But I would have had a compilation of the 15th anniversary show. As it is the last highlight is from 2007. Which doesn't make it cap off properly.

Disc 4 is good. Well it's not, but I enjoyed it. It's a nostalgia thing. Poor show, but wrestling was different back then.

Overall it's ok. Solid. It depends how often you can watch Austin do his thing without getting bored by it.

I've changed the title of this thread as well, I read a lot of wrestling books so I'll probably start to review them in here. But the thread is still the same, you can still do previews of upcoming DVDs if you wish.

The Triumph And Tragedy Of World Class Championship Wrestling & Heroes Of World Class: The Von Erich Story

Double review this time. Reviewing the latest (in England) WWE DVD and a documentary form a couple of years ago. Both are pretty good. But essentially the same. One has better production values, the other hasn't got the WWE version of events. I say the WWE version of events because Kevin Von Erich has had a memory lapse between filming each documentary. His stories change. I doubt that he's forgotten some of these things so my guess is WWE get a little direction. You really can't talk about drugs too much in a post Benoit WWE DVD.

I do have to say though. If I had to pik one to watch it would be the WWE version. Both are great. And the Big Vision version has more information. But it doesn't have so much more information that it blows the WWE version out of the water. It mearly adds a little more detail. So you get pretty much the same information. And that is why the WWE verion is better. The Big Vision version is just too damned long. It's over 50 minutes longer than the other. And as a result it draggs. If only somebody had got a little snippy on it, it might have become truly great. But it doesn't.

The WWE version also has matches. Which I haven't watched yet. But these extras usually are. And nobody got into wrestling to hear about several brother killing themselves, they got into it for the matches and the cool gimmicks. One match I'm looking forward to on the set is Bruiser Brody & The Missing Link vs. Rick Rude & One Man Gang. I suspect it'll be terrible. But two of the four are in my top 10.

Overall both are great. But the WWE version is shorter, but has less informatrion.

Benoit by Steven Johnson, Heath McCoy, Irvn Muchnick and Greg Oliver

I've read a couple of reviews online, and I haven't found a positive one yet. I'd have to agree with most. It's a rush job. Bought out purley because they know it'll sell, no matter how poor it is. If it was writen by poster on this forum then I'd be impressed, but for a book it's not very good. It's pretty much just then news that was put up on wrestlezone.com made into book form. I could have written this book. All they've done is link each bit of it.

One bit was moderately intresting. It's pretty much a biog of Benoit's career. It's not particularly insightful. But it's no worse than the biogs that WWE bring out. It also cuts out all the pointless shit that is in a lot of wrestling books. Nothing was new to me, but I was still entertained for half an hour.

Overall a poor book. I'll still be buying every book that comes out on the subject.

World Title: Kurt Angle vs. Sting (Bound For Glory)
Ultimate X: The LAX vs. XXX (Bound For Glory)
King Of The Mountain Match (Slammiversary)

I think this is out in the UK on Monday. But I'm not sure why i would want to get this. From an in ring standpoint TNA was still pretty good. Problem is that all the feuds were shit, the build was shit, everything was shite really. The matches can be great, but without quality build then there's nothing to get excited about.

The matches are quality. Only problem is that they've all appeared on DVD before. If you've got the PPV DVD's then there is no point in buying it. I'll buy it anyway, I'm a sucker. But I'm sure there are a couple of iMPACT matches they could have put on.

TNA DVD's in general are pretty poor. Best of's contain 6 minute matches and matches that aren't terribly good. They also don't have the catalogue that WWE has. I really think there output should be limited to PPV discs.

Jim Cornette is writing a book documenting the Midnight Express. The book will feature tons of inside information on the last days of Jim Crockett Promotions before it was bought out by Ted Turner, the first years of WCW, attendance figures for 60% of the shows the Midnight Express were on in the late 80s, newspaper clippings, original booking plans, and more. The book will be released later this year.

That was from WZ but if Jim Cornette is writing a book with all that in there it will be well worth checking out from my opinion. It would be interesting as I don't think there has been a book written about the last days of Jim Crockett Promotions. And it will be interesting to hear about the business not only from a managers perspective but also from one of the smartest men in the business.
