Just watched WWE's Greatest Rivalries: Shawn Michaels vs. Brett Hart on Netflix Instant; wanted to see if anyone else has had a chance to see this?

It is a two hour interview conducted by Jim Ross with Shawn and Brett with various clips throughout, taking your from when they came into WWE up to reconciling at Raw last year. It really doesn't pull any punches and both Brett and Shawn are incredibly candid and honest (at least it appears they are honest) including more insight into the Montreal Screw Job than I have seen before (i.e. Shawn flat out saying the idea was Hunter's). Also, it really had a behind the scenes kind of feel discussing things like selling for the other opponent, guys putting over other talent (or not wanting to) and other stuff the IWC loves to talk about.

I really can't recommend this enough as it was one of the better WWE productions I have seen.

I HIGHLY recommend the Blu-ray. It's got the 1997 Survivor Series match, and also has a bunch of behind-the-scenes footage not featured on DVD. For example, HBK finally explains how he got that lazy eye.

A match against Kane where apparently Kane's big boot really got Michaels. I'll assume it's Unforgiven 2004, but it could easily be house show material as well.

Just wanted to say i got the best of the Clash of the Champions, and it is a great trip down memory lane. I really wish WWE still did anthologies, but if they aren't going to I am glad they did this compilation discs. It is a really great set just to relive some of the old WCW moments.

yes finally someone agrees with more about anthology sets. Its still very popular in the entertainment industry just WWE is too damn lazy

I had read someones post about how hard it is to do the anthology sets, but I would honestly pay more for them if that's what it took. If they took the time and did it right I would shell out to own every clash of the champions. Same with all the WCW stuff. I really think they could make a killing with those sets.

I have to agree with yall about the anthology did sets. I have all of them that wwe has put out. I would love for them to do more of wcw an also ecw. I would also put out extra money for them. Ive got a question about the clash of the champions dvd. It is just matchs or does it thru the reason they started the clash an the history of it. Any help on that would be nice

I would also pay more for Anthology DVD's like they did with Royal Rumble. I would also love for the WWE to release old DVD's on Bluray. They are constantly making old DVD movies to Bluray, why not WWE videos. I hate watching the bars and/or blurryness on the sides when watching old dvd's. :banghead:

Dusty Rhodes hosts the dvd set, and gives brief snippets of the history, but nothing extensive. I wish they would have gotten more into it. They skip over a lot of the early clashes to. It was a good trip down memory lane, but could have and should have been more extensive. Is there anyway we could get a petition for the anthology sets going. I really never believed doing things like that would make a difference, but if there are enough of us here maybe we should at least try

I agree that anthology sets work way better than "Best Of". throughout the entertainment industry that has been proven as most company's have abandoned "Best Of". I also agree some petition should be organized for released of box sets. The two sets for JCP/WCW that would bring in at least 250,000 units would be Starrcade and GAB. Lets be honest DVD sales are driven by the older fan. If box sets were brought back put them on Blu-Ray. We all have known since 2002 VKM was going to hold these archives hostage and not give the fans what they want. "Best Of" is only being released to keep fans of other promotions happy in a very disingenious lazy way from WWE's perspective. All PPV's and Specialty Shows should be released in their original entirety. The only thing that should be edited from a PR standpoint is anything involving Benoit. Weekly shows from other promotions including WWE's archives should also be released. This notion that WWE is better than them has been proven seeing one company controls 90% of the archives of the entire industry!

I have to agree with you.the box sets would sell so much better because you would get the whole card instead of if your lucky just one match.you would think vince would be a smart buisness man an say lets put tge box sets outvan give the fans what they want. Plus who decides what matches go into the best of. I would love if they would but out some of the war game matches. Figured there would of been atleast one of those on the best of the cage matches dvd set but i guessed wrong. Thanks vince

There are two incredibly huge factors on why they're not doing it:

1. Blurring. Talking about anything 1998-2002, it would take an incredible amount of time to properly edit the footage.
2. Royalties: With Doug Somers' latest lawsuit in the woodwork, this could potentially derail any future Anthology sets ever made. Imagine the MILLIONS being dealt in royalties on this?

While I'd love to see more Anthologies, I don't want them to be revisionist in any way. Sadly, the end results would be hacks of the original work.

I am not familar with the Somer's lawsuit. I do know certain talent from past promotions took out their own TM so WWE contractually has to figure out royalities to that particular talent. Thats one reason WWE has signed certain talent to Legends Contracts so WWE can control the TM and pay less % to that talent for merchandise depicting likeness of that particular talent. I have heard the same agrument about the older archival material and it will take time. They have controlled these archives since 2002 so no more excuses.

anthology sets could prove very costly, how many DVDs do you need to do a Great American Bash retrospective ? Sales potentially are higher for Best Of Sets because you eliminate the boring filler, undercard matches, etc people are not as interested in. Plus, if sales are strong you can do multiple sets, they did 2 separate Best of Steel Cage Match comps for instance

It has been proven "Best Of" don't sell as well as anthology sets. In the late 90's before the big DVD push both WWE and WCW did multiple "Best Of" and within a year both promotions abandoned the concept. If WWE can do box sets of some of their top PPV's why not at least try with GAB and Starrcade. Seeing those two debut before Mania and SSlam. If "Best Of" would work certain studios wouldn't have released complete season of Seinfeld and Friends. Seasons or Anthology sets are still popular just WWE doesn't want to give the fans of other promotions what they want in the DVD/Blu-Ray division

I just picked up the new ECW blu-ray today. Can't wait to watch it.

I collect DVD's and have a giant collection, with probably 20 wrestling sets. To go back in time a little bit, the Hell in a Cell collection they put out is good, as well as the the ladder match set.

The second volume of ladder matches is GARBAGE. It has a Beth Phoenix/Winter OVW match for christ sake.

If you are an RVD fan, his set is amazing. Not a bad match on it.

The recent King of the Ring set is very good. I love that Ken Shamrock's win is on there and the third disc is absolute gold with a bunch of Angle matches, including the awesome one with Shane.

I bought the Best PPV matches of 2011 and it shows how weak of a year 11 was for PPVs.

I absolutely love the Best of Nitro set and hope they continue with the WCW sets. I still need to pick up Starcade and the new Clash of the Champions set and really hope they release more WCW discs.

Some things I hope they relese:

-A Brock Lesnar set. The guy has had nothing but 5-star matches and in my eyes is the most polarizing figure in the WWE. His "Here Comes the Pain" dvd is great but too short.

-Best of Goldberg.

-Best of Sting.

-Best of Kurt Angle.

I thought Edge's was enjoyable. Definitely not one of the worst. Its one I actually need to go back and watch again. Curious as to why it didn't sell so well?

Wow..that is a pretty awesome steal on those! I can tell everyone that I noticed that a lot of the "FYE" stores in our area has had a lot of wrestling DVD's lately brand new for 6.99 a pop. Not too shabby for some of the titles they have had.

Also, I agree with what everyone is saying about the anthologies and how WWE needs to go back to those. I have the Survivor Series Anthology Vol. 1 & 2 and those are pretty awesome!

I was very vocal in wanting the anthologies brought back, but if they aren't going to the least they could do is finish Survivor series. 97, 98, and 99 are not even available on DVD. I have the first two volumes like you and really want to see them finish it.

Box Sets still work in the DVD/Blu-Ray industry. WWE wants to compete with other entertainment companies then produce DVD/Blu-Ray sets that the fans want not what the suits in a cubicle that are guessing what the fans want. The excuse that it takes too long has been used way too much by WWE Marks that think anything WWE does is awesome. I am in the archival business and I do agree it takes a while to make sure all material is digitally ready but its worth it in the long run. One idea I have is release Box Sets for Blu-Ray it two combo sets. The first set is WM/Starrcade and the second is Summerslam/GAB. Release all ECW PPV's for Blu-Ray. Yes all future sets should be and only be for Blu-Ray. The smart thing for WWE to do would be to release the first year of Nitro vs Raw in September. At least once a week I will share some Blu-Ray ideas. Someone on this site should conduct a poll of Box Sets vs "Best Of"!

I agree with everything you said except for the only on Blu-Ray part. I say that because i don't think Blu-Ray only will reach all of their fans thus lowering sales and the lower sales will then stop them from wanting to produce any more box sets. I think they should do both DVD and Blu-Ray for the simple reason of making them available to the largest amount of people.

The reason for just Blu-Ray is for a few reasons. Its makes WWE a serious contender against all other entertainment companies and it uniquely seperates themselves from other promotions especially seeing the demo of most males 18-30 have either a 360 or PS3 to play Blu-Ray. It also saves on cost per disc seeing you can fit more HD material on Blu-Ray.

One concept I like is to start a series of WWE vs WCW combo anthology sets. The first one of this series could be the complete anthology of Flair vs Hogan. Of the archival material they have every match and promo these two legends have been a part of should be on this combo set. How awesome would it be to see every match and promo of Flair vs Dusty and then the next disc would have every match and promo of Hogan vs Savage. You could group the material versus opponent or just go in chronological order via date!

I have been talking about these anthology sets on her for a long time, and it sounds like you actually have the knowledge of how to put one together. I really like the WWE vs. WCW concept especially the event ones. I had asked this before to other fans on this forum and really didn't get a definitive answer. I am not naive by any means but would a petition of some sorts do any good? I would tend to doubt that a corporation the size of WWE would care if we want box sets or not, but is it worth a try? We as fans have to have some voice don't you think? Let me know what you think.

I do think a petition would work on some level. The problem with WWE they have always been behind the digital aspect compared to other entertainment companies. I am not a saying I am the smartest guy in the room but if I had the video library that WWE has all the archives would have been digitally ready by now. The fans that actually care about the wrestling industry without a favorite promotion knew WWE was going to do this when they acquired WCW's library along with other promotion's library. There are so many creative ways to re-package these archives in both the proposed WWE Network and in the DVD/Blu-Ray business. "Best Of" doesn't sell compared to box sets ever since the late 90's. Both WWE and WCW abandoned "Best Of" just because they didn't sell at the time because DVD's were just starting to get popular. The reason "Best Of" sells alot of units lately is because most fans have accepted WWE will not release box sets in the near future and its the only way fans will be able to see their favorite moments other than YouTube.
