That was the abso-fuckin-lutely BEST heel turn, scratch that, best TURN in general that I've seen since Shawn Michael's out-of-nowher superkick on Hogan in 2005 or 2004 I think. Truth played that out amazingly, starting with refusing Morrison's help back up, then throwing him off the turnbuckle, then beating the shit out of him while looking bipolar, and then the best part: Taking a box of cigarettes/lighter from the crowd (btw anyone notice he just kept the whole box? Didn't even give it back to the fan lol)and smoking it in front of all the kids and parents, then blowing it in JoMo's face. I always liked R Truth, but I was worried about his character losing a shitload of steam since the EC PPV. There is no possible reason for anyone to hate on this guy right now!

I think parents just like kids got be reminded its a storyline and whether Truth in real smokes or not. Its still part of society. I more ticked off that head tobacco free whatever commented telling Truth to apologize. But great Heal turn for PG spot. I like Truth a lot he different and is better with a mean streak. Some times he is hard to listen to. But Morrison Miz and a lot more are in that boat to. This just sets up Truth interferring in the title match or WWE going with a 4 way match maybe.

smoking isn't as bad as its made out to be. It's just an easy, sexy news story. That whole thing is garbage. Truth was a heel, so that guy can suck it.

To quote Bryan Danielson "what the FUCK do you know about pro wrestling?"

I hate it when the media does shit like this. Movies show violent murders all the time, yet Truth is getting heat because, as part of his HEEL TURN he lit up a smoke?

I don't want to bring race into it but could be Truth be getting media heat because he's black. Black guy does something bad he gets blasted, anyone else gets a little slap on the wrist. I bet if Miz lit one up or Cena they wouldn't be getting any media heat at all. Heck they might actually praise it.

Media imo hates black people. Don't believe me watch any other sports and watch the media.

As for the heel turn....Greatest heel turn in recent history. I can't wait to see what Truth does next or who he will attack next. I would love it if he beats up Cena, Morrison, and Miz in a row. Solidify himself as a real rebel heel out of control.

The best heel turn I have seen since I have started watching. Before I hated seeing R-truth come down the ramp, now I look forward to it. If you need proof for it, The dumbass for the anti-smoking bitch-crew (they are a dime a dozen imo) is so terribly offended by a BAD GUY doing BAD THINGS. Obviously you heel is doing a great job if he pisses of a "professional" with his in-ring actions. T.V. crossing the line of reality is just wonderful. Good job by R-Truth, it's not sarcastic anymore.

I thought R-Truth lighting up that cigarette was simply awesome, and I say that becuase NO ONE expected it to happen. This is what used to captivate audiences, the fact that you don't know what will come next. I found it to be insightful as it gives us a true sight of who R-Truth the person really is, and I just want to say I know he will be successful with his heel turn. I can say that confidently becausw when someone is able to act more like themselves they are more comfortable in that position, look for his promo's to be extremely entertaining as well. Great job WWE, and even better job defending R-Truth when TMZ reported it saying that there is smoking on other PG shows (which I never seen lol). I'm loving this.

Anyone see WWE usng R-Truth smoking an ***, fodder for getting rid of him in the cuts? They sacked Finlay for a stupid reason didnt they. Wouldnt surprise me, especially if Vinny Mac didnt ok it.

Hope not, looking forward!

At least something good came out of that atrocious opening segment. Just because WWE is overseas, doesn't mean they have to half ass their programming. It looks like R Truth and WWE are getting into some heat for R Truth smoking in a front of children in the arena. Kids can see two men beat each other to a pulp, but God forbid someone lights a cigarette. It's not like he raped a girl in the middle of the ring.

I understand the storyline of R Truth being a good for nothing smoker and taking out John Morrison while mockingly smoking in his face. I still don't know why smoking automatically makes you a monster though. Everyone needs to calm down about WWE going TV 14 because of a cigarette. It's only a cigarette people. Man we are really depraved if lighting a cigarette on national television upsets us.

WWE forgot one little thing about Killings before turning him...he is atrocious on the mic. He absolutely sucks. The things about heels...they need to be able to work a crowd. That requires either:

a. a manager.

or

b. speaking yourself.

So it's either time to hook Truth up with a mouthpiece, or send him to "Mic Skills 101", because Killings is the worst guy on the mic this side of Yoshi Tatsu.

Dude calm down. lol Rtruth is actually better on the mic as a heel. I followed him in TNA, hes also very entertaining. Probably because its more of him being himself as when hes a face and trying to be a nice guy, it kinda sounds like what hes saying is scripted. I know all of its scripted but as a heel. All you have to do is get the fans to hate you. He'll be alright. I hope he starts calling cities the wrong names. Like he called Milwaukee"Greenbay" that would add even more to his heel character.

I usually change the channel when these two are on screen together. But I flipped back in time to see the end of the R-Truth/Morrison match, and I'm actually glad I did. R-Truth actually interested me for once. That says a lot to me right there.

Plus, when he started smoking and the crowd got upset, I cracked up. It's okay to assault a once-good friend but if someone pulls out a cigarette, watch out. "He's got a cigarette! Our children will be forever corrupted!"
The "incident" also reminded me of that episode of Piper's Pit where the celeb kept blowing smoke in Piper's face so he put it out with the fire extinguisher.:lmao:

As long as the writers and Truth don't screw up, this could actually be an interesting storyline.

Explain. Because you seem to know how to "not screw up" lets hear it. Otherwise if you just sit back and bitch how they "did it wrong" if it doesn't get over then you have no way of proving you could have done any better.

I like this the more I think about it. It reminds me of that line in Thank You For Smoking "the only guys who smoke in hollywood anymore are bad guys." I like it. If Benoit hadn't gone batshit they could actually turn this into a personal freedom/political angle and make Truth a babyface. especially given the number of working class wrestling fans.

I think this is kinda wholesome, having a bad guy who is bad because he smokes. He gets out of breath during matches and needs water because he smokes. Kids, you don't wanna be like that do you?

Are we absolutely sure it wasn't the water that turned Truth heel? He had more of that than cigarettes!

It did go on for too long, but the crowd were having fun and Morrison sold like a trooper. It'd be good if Truth can build on this but I think they need to separate Truth and Punk in the draft or else there are 2 heels disagreeing over health matters.

Finally, "That's illegal" is one of the best chants of the year I reckon, especially as Truth looked a bit surprised.

It would seem Futurama was on to something when they created a wrestler in their Robot Wrestling League called the chaiiiiin smoker. :lmao:

It is a good and effective way to get heat from the crowd, albeit a risky and controversial one.
The WWE will garner a lot of heat for this incident, regardless of the fact that Truth was portraying a bad man doing bad things. As far as someone intent on harming the WWE is concerned there was a performer in front of children portraying smoking as if it was cool.

It will only take one reporter finding one teenage nincompoop at a WWE event smoking and claiming he does so because his favorite wrestler does it too, and the WWE is in very deep trouble.

It is because of this risky nature that I highly doubt they will make it a regular thing for Truth.

Yeah i saw the response statment that WWE had in regards to the smoking and basically they were using that to portray smoking is bad for you health because he was supposedly tired due to the smoking.

I too doubt they will make it a regular thing. It seems to me that it was a one time deal and now that he has shown this deranged, crazy, agressive side, maybe the smoking deal will go away. At least I hope so.

I thought it was brilliant. So well done how he jumped out of such a cartoony role RIGHT into a cunt role, and I love how in our era there was something very sinister about the smoking bit. Loved it, and makes R-Truth ten times more interesting. Definately needs a music change though, he can never come out to "whats up" ever ever again.

I still think "lite up" as in, a cig would be a quick and easy change. Kinda corny but it amuses me.

Maybe he just shouldn't rap his intro at all. Being a heel and all, in the modern era, you shouldn't let the fans do anything fun. Kinda like how Miz doesn't like letting the crowd finish his phrases.

I was thinking that "time to get crunk" song he had for a little bit would work. The crowd didnt like it, and his voice and the beat itself was much more gruff and edgy. Seems like a natural progression to me, becuase not only is the song a bit more gruff, but the crowd is already familure with it, IE they will know who its for when it hits....

I don't really see the purpose behind the heel turn. If you look at the roster, theres a very unbalanced ration of 1:3 in terms of babyfaces and heels. Makes you think who's gonna be turning face soon, maybe the miz?

Now I read on Wrestlezone's news site that FOX NEWS picked up on the smoking Incident.

It was not nearly as bad as I feared it was going to be. I thought FOX News would tear the WWE apart. Instead they almost defend it. Sure, they ridicule the WWE with the underwear comments and they never leave out a chance to bring steroids into the discussion, but they actually claim that any anti-smoking activist outrage is manufactured.

I guess it worked in favor of R-Truth after all. If FOX News didn't jump on the WWE is EVIL bandwagon this time, then the consequences can't be all that dire.

The smoking segment was done to get Truth heel heat. It is a PG product and thus they want to appeal to kids. Children will obviously not like that Truth smoked. That was the point of it. They aren't promoting smoking because the whole point was to get fans upset with Truth during his heel turn. Promoting smoking would have been faces telling the crowd it's ok to smoke. You're not supposed to like heels, so the segment did what it was meant to do.

The heel turn was welcomed in our house, as we all cheered and said "Finally, R-Truth can become interesting!"

Let's hope he doesn't blow this chance by being boring...

I could see it though.First time after his heel turn He comes out to whats up but it starts where he starts rapping so no one can copy because i cant understand anything he says when he does that but anyway then when his in the ring and starts going whats up and the fans would go whats up and he could yell out Cut My Music. You fans wanna know whats up?Whats up is you should shut up or some crap like that and get some heat

For an activist or a reporter hell-bent on causing trouble that doesn't matter.
It was a WWE performer (=role model) promoting evil.

The fact that it was a bad guy and that it was designed to make the fans boo is irrelevant, too, because smoking is supposed to be rebellious. Bad guys = rebels. Rebel kids will feel drawn to it.
In other words if a good guy smokes it's bad and if a bad guy smokes it's almost as bad. A lose-lose situation. Either way you bend it, if they want to someone will find a way to use it against you.

Anyway, so far little trouble has come from all of this. Some outraged parents, one or two anti-smoking activists cried foul, but nothing more happened. And now probably nothing more will. I'm just saying this had the potential to blow up in the WWE's face. FOX News shrugging it off was a dodged bullett.
