Megatron Answers Sports Questions

What was the biggest move made today? I would say its Pence heading to the Giants hes sucking right now but hes still a power bat and is gonna put a nice bat into the lineup to go with Posey and Melky and when hes back Pablo Sandoval.

I'd say Victorino to LA. Needed a legit leadoff man and some more offense beside Kemp/Ethier/HanRam. I'd say he fits the bill, even if it's only a 2 month rental. Can't sit on your hands at this time of the year.

How did you like Miggie not only hitting it over the green monster, but flat out of the park? Followup: thoughts on Prince hitting a HR the next at bat? Lol

So next year there will be some major stars on the HOF ballot for the first time. Unfortunately some of them are the poster boys of the steroid era and will not get in. Of these first timers who do you see going in next year?

Barry Bonds
Roger Clemens
Sammy Sosa
Mike Piazza
Craig Biggio
Curt Schilling

Love it. Miggy's my favorite Tiger. Only current player I have a jersey of (although I was going to get a Verlander custom styled one but they didn't have it in my size). Too bad their offense has been in the shitter consistently in this road trip.

Biggio and Piazza for sure. The first 3 will be interesting to see since two of them are arguably the best pitcher and hitter since the 50s/60s and Sosa has some of the numbers to make a case. Schilling is a tough call. I'd say yes over who some people are clamoring for (Jack Morris, most notably) but the Hall usually only elects 2-3 guys a year so he might get squeezed out until a little more down the line.

So what cap does Piazza wear on his plaque? I really think it's a toss up. I'd like to see him go in as a Dodger but I think he might be more remembered as a Met.

I'd say Mets. He made a World Series with them, and his most memorable moments (HR after 9/11, Subway Series) came as a Met.

Probably Matt Ryan. On an undefeated team, his run game isn't what it used to be, had some 4th quarter comebacks.

1st.

I'll say 2nd. Spurs #1, OKC 2, LAL 3. Only have Lakers 3 because I think it'll take them time to get gelled together with all the new pieces.

I'm gonna say yes as a late seed. Harden and Lin is a good backcourt and the West is kinda down this year with Dirk having an injury, Minnesota having multiple injuries, GSW are a walking injury. I think they can squeak out an 8-9 seed.

54-58.

Who do you think the biggest name will be to get traded this offseason for baseball? I say Justin Upton.

Also got this idea from the local sports radio guys here but what do you think of a trade between the Redsox and Giants that would send Jacoby and maybe some cash or a decent prospect to the Giants for Tim Linceacum? Do you think Giants would do it or are even looking to move him after the crappy year and with Matt Cain turning into the ace of the staff?

First question - I'd say it's pretty likely Upton gets moved. I've been kinda lazy on keeping up on my rumors once the season was over but Elvis Andrus would be another big name. King Felix is always a name tossed around but I doubt that happens. There likely is a big name that will be dealt under the radar as well.

2nd - I'd hate that idea by Boston. Lincecum really struggled last year in a pitchers park and him moving to the AL East would be damn near lethal. Plus Ellsbury has shown he's capable of being a top performer. Need him to solidify the top of the order with him and Pedroia. Giants would absolutely be fleecing the Sox if that deal went through. If I was Cherrington I'd rip that deal up and hang up the phone on Sabean.

It could be a steal for Boston though considering Jacoby is going free agent next year and will be tough to resign, This is really true if Lincecum is locked up for a few more years under his current contract. Though for any team possibly looking to get Timmy they have to ask themselves if this was just an off year or if his arm is shot, Based off how his postseason went I think it was just an off year.

Also forgot about Elvis I could see him in Boston, We need a shortstop but the problem is we have a damn good prospect in Zander Bogarts who will need probably 1 or 2 more years in the minors before he's ready and if we get a big name shortstop like Elvis we have no place to put Bogarts.

I can't buy on Lincecum. I'd throw out as much money to Ellsbury as needed (which may be discounted some due to his injury history) and look for FA pitchers.

And Bogarts could be used as trade bait. If you can package him into some solid pitching I would go for it. Prospects are a gamble and the Red Sox have a fanbase that is normally in win now mode. That's the method the Tigers have used under Dombrowski (trade top prospects for proven commodities) and it's done pretty well for them.

Your Defensive Player of the year is Charles Tillman.

Agree or Disagree?

Disagree. JJ Watt.

I love Jacoby and think he's a great player but he will want a ton of money after this year. Doesn't help matters that Scott Boris is his agent either. That's why there is a lot of talk of trading Jacoby for a top pitcher.

As for Bogarts he's not going anywhere. Everything I read says he is the best prospect we have and is all around damn good he can field, hit and run. We may end up dealing Iglasis for an arm or a first baseman though considering he can't hit to save his life.

Also when David Ortiz hangs up his cleats in 2 years will he have done enough to earn him a spot in Cooperstown? I say yes.

That's fine if Jacoby is being dealt but Lincecum isn't worth him. Plus I don't think the Red Sox will be penny pinching in the future.

And I'd probably be no on Ortiz. Hall of very good, not great.

How closely do you follow the NFL? Do you just have a select few teams or do you follow the whole league closely?

Are you big into NCAAF?

I'd probably go with Geno atm. Only USC QB to be worth their salt over the past decade + has been Palmer (and he's been disappointing himself) and while Big 12 defenses are sometimes allergic to tackling the guy is accurate and like I said the USC stigma is kinda turning me away from him. Still a top pick, but KC really missed out on a great QB prospect a year late with the RG3 sweepstakes (or even Luck if they end up bad enough).

Why is that?

Also would you say yes to McGwire? For me he's a no. All he really ever had was power and nothing else.
