Megatron Answers Sports Questions

Because he doesn't play for the Cowboys, he was out of the league for a bit, and I think it's generally accepted that Romo is the superior QB and has been aside from Vicks 10 game performance 2 seasons ago.

If you had to choose between a four-team and eight-team playoff in college football, which would you take? Why?

If it's an eight-team, how would you pick the teams?

What are your thoughts on the UFC and do you have any interest in the sport of MMA?

Eight. The more the merrier. Personally I'd prefer 16 and I think that's what we eventually will get.

I'd decide it with a committee. Conference championships and SOS are weighted heavily and it's not necessarily the top 8 teams.

I follow it sporadically. I'm not dishing out the 50-60 bucks for a PPV and don't keep intense track of it, but I can watch a little bit of it without getting bored. It'll never reach my interests of team sports, though.

Is Andrew McCutchen baseballs first half MVP?

I'd take Votto over him. A slightly better producer and a good fielder. I can see the argument, though, especially with the lack of help Cutch has.

Thoughts of Steve Nash possibly being a Laker?

It makes them a better team but still below the Thunder and Spurs. Nash is 38 years old and a defensive liability, but their offensive production should improve a bit.

Why can't Andrew McCutchen spell his name correctly?

I'm saying McCutcheon is spelled with an o, he spells it without an o therefore he spells it wrong.

All time best year for centers in the NBA? The league has very weak center play these days, and I wonder when the glory days were.

I could see cases for both Hamilton and Cano - both have produced a lot for division leaders and have over 3 WAR themselves. However, I'd have to say he's the clear frontrunner now (especially since the Angels are back in the playoff hunt) even though he HAS to slow down at some point (.404 BABIP), right? He already has the ROY locked up as far as I'm concerned.

Way back when in the early days of the NBA it was tough not to find some great center play. From Mikan to Wilt to Kareem (I know that spans about 20 years, but still) those 3 combine for 9 of the top 10 spots in Win Shares (how many wins a player is werth, somewhat akin to WAR for baseball) for single seasons.

In recent years, Shaq's MVP year in 99-00, Hakeem during the Rockets title runs, David Robinson around that time, etc.

Which NFL do you see making a major leap forward this year? Which one do you see taking a major step back?

Also, what do you think of NFL stadiums having to show what the replay official is seeing during challenged plays? I think it's great, personally, but it kind of takes away some of the home field advantage. I know the Jags would never show the replay if it seemed like it might favor then opposing team, and I loved that.

I'm assuming you mean playoffs for forward and back. I'll say Seattle for forward, if Matt Flynn is named the starter (which I assume will occur). Pete Carroll has improved his defense both these years and now has an improvement in the passing game with Flynn over Tarvaris Jackson. Throw in a 3rd place schedule, with their 2 toughest non-division games at home (vs. GB and NE) which is a nice HFA, I could see them going 10-6. Especially since SF is likely to regress at least a bit.

As far as back, look no further than your World Champion Giants. Lucked themselves into the playoffs a bit, Philly will be better (and started to figure it out late), I like the improvements Dallas made on defense in both FA and the draft (getting 2 CBs that'll start right away), and even the Redskins can play spoiler with an actual QB behind them instead of Sexy Rexy. I don't see them getting a chance to repeat.

It's good because it helps the fans know whats going on and gives them an outlook on the play being reviewed.

Give me your projected stats for Peyton Manning.

Favourite sports commenter ever?

Using rough guesstimates, I'd say around 500-550 attempts, and around 4000 yards, 29 TDs and 14 INTs. This isn't prime Peyton the Broncos will be getting, he's coming off an injury, he doesn't have the chemistry with these receivers that he had with Wayne/Clark/etc., and I don't see them wanting to put as much pressure on him in the regular season. A very good year for a 36 year old QB, even Peyton manning.

Gus Johnson. Hands down.

Who's your favorite to win the Homerun Derby?

And do you think R.A. Dickey wins the Cy Young?

Stanton. The guy can mash.

I'm going to guess no. Iirc Dickey cools off severely as the weather gets colder. While he's definitely came out of nowhere and surprised everyone, I'm not placing my bets on a knuckleballer, even one that has had as much success as Dickey.

Lebron, but it's close. It's just that holding a TV special on where you're going to play basketball isn't a very good PR move, especially when you go to the team that he went to. Dwight's case has been a longer saga and more drawn out, but Lebron having 'The Decision' puts it slightly over Dwight.

With the recent news of Ray Allen signing to the Heat, do you agree with Steven A. Smith in regards to the Heat pretty much clinching the NBA title for the next two years? Also, what are your thoughts on Allen's move and how will it affect both Boston and Miami?

You can't make guarantees because injuries do happen. Bosh was out most of the Indiana and Boston series and the Heat needed epic performances by Lebron and Wade to skate by. Wades body is beginning to break down as well and it only takes one move for Lebron to tear an ACL. You just can't predict injuries. I'd say they're the heavy favorites for the time being, but an injury to any one of their big 3 and the Heat become very beatable.

As for Allen, I love this move by the Heat. Mike Miller and Shane Battier were able to stretch the floor and find some open shots, and they aren't the caliber of shooter that Allen is. While Ray is certainly older, all he has to do is sit at the 3 point line, wait for Lebron/Wade to dish it to him and drain it. Just another bullet for this team and an improvement over Miller/James Jones as the 3 point specialist. A defensive liability, but he doesn't need to be anything big with Lebron, Wade, and Battier out there.

For the Celtics, it was needed as well. He wasn't gonna take Avery Bradleys spot and I read there was tension between Allen and Rondo. Plus with the Terry signing it's not like they are hurting for bench scorers. It was time

Will the Pirates make the playoffs or atleast get a wild card spot this year? Seems like they might based off their first half of the season.
