Mark Henry Is World Heavyweight Champion!!! - KEEP IT ALL IN HERE!

People are actually happy about this? Seriously? How quickly have you forgotten Kane's title reign, because that is near exactly the same as this. Veteran monster heel gets the title, solely because he has been around forever and may be retiring soon, and goes on to have several worst match of the year candidates. Sound familiar, because that is what this will turn into.

What the hell are you talking about? Kane's world title reign last year was a very well received reign until he lost it in that shitty fatal four way match.

I still fail to see any redeeming features in Henry. Sure, he is big and strong, so are about a million other people in the WWE, doesn't make them good (see: Mason Ryan, Skip Sheffield, The Great Kahli). The bottom line is this, he cuts average promos that I struggle to understand (bigger is better or better is better?) he has matches ranging anywhere from horrid to (at best) decent and he plays a character that is about as overdone as anything in the WWE (Angry black guy/monster heel). The only reason he is getting this title is because he has been in the WWE for 15 years, that is it. I guarantee if this was say his 5th year in the company he would not have won that title.

Really? That's your argument? That there are other big monsters, and the ones you list are no where near relevant or anywhere near Henry's abilities? Henry was a big reason for ECW getting the ratings it did before Christian was on the show, and I'm damn sure SD ratings will work.

Just because Henry is the best he has ever been doesn't mean he deserves a title. I mean, anything is a step up from utter shit right?

Whats next a Goldust title reign? Regal perhaps? They have been around forever too so they must deserve the title right?

Don't be ******ed, please. Henry has been the only reason to watch Smackdown when it comes to the people in the main event scene, and he's been working really hard and has earned this spot.

---

And to people saying that Henry can't wrestle, they need to shut the fuck up and remember what PRO-WRESTLING is about. It's not entirely about the in-ring work, because if it was, Tyson Kidd would be world champion. Pro-Wrestling is about people who can hold intriguing storylines and send you home with your money's worth. Mark Henry is that guy. He's big, believable, and other than Kane & Big Show, he's one of the few big men in WWE that aren't garbage.

Here's another thing, how about giving the reign a chance before bashing it like the ******ed smark fucks that you are? Who knows, maybe his reign will actually be worth watching? Nobody knows until you actually give a chance.

I was completely shocked when Mark Henry won the match against Orton. We know Orton is a star and over the course of the match I found myself believing that Henry belonged. I expected Orton to be the guy who put an end to Henry's reign of dominance and he'd go back to his usual midcard self. Henry looked like a beast against Orton and I would love to see Henry get a good lengthy title reign. I hope they just didn't throw the belt on him due to his commitment to the company and have him drop it to Orton in two weeks at Hell in a Cell. I would like to see Henry just destroy Orton in the Cell and then move on to some closure with his feud with Sheamus.

I'm really happy for Henry. I've never been a Henry hater like most of the IWC have but I just started becoming a fan of his. As for Orton I can't say I'm upset seeing Henry squashing him. He was a boring champ and I hope Mark furthers this "Hall of Pain" thing he has going on.

Finally we have a new, fresh, and actually entertaining world champion in Mark Henry. And whoever isn't happy about it is probably an angry Orton mark who doesn't respect what Henry has done over the years. Henry has made all the sacrifices a true professional wrestler should. He deserves to win the big one. And I like how he called the world title the most important title in professional wrestling instead of the usual sports entertainment reference. Nothing but respect for Mark Henry.

I was ecstatic when I read that Mark Henry won the Whc last night. It's been a long time since a heel was built up to "Monster" status, and creative actually followed through and had him beat someone worth beating. I'm tired of these beheamoths beating up on mid-carders. If he's that unstoppable, why isn't he the champ? Yes, I think this new angle and subsequent title reign are a reward for Herry's years of service, and No, I don't see anything wrong with that. They didn't just drop the strap on him out of the blue, they actually gave him enough time to build up a recent resume (Big Show, Kane, Koslov, Sheamus) of guys he's destroyed for him to be a credible threat to Orton. After all, Mick Foley said in Have A Nice Day, that his title reigns were more of a lifetime achievement award, and who doesn't like Mick Foley, huh?? If you don't like Mick Foley, you're a communist!! Back on point, Orton losing clean to Henry was absolutely high-class by Randy. You hear so many stories about champions politicking their way out of jobbing, it's sort of refreshing to hear about a top Babyface, a SUPER, even losing clean to put a Monster Heel over even further.

Congrats, World's Strongest Man, I'll be boo-ing you, but that's what you were going for all along.

Not bashing Henry and you can go read my previous post, but I just thought of something after reading replies, anyone else think that Henry is getting the title because he remained with the company after being the father of an hand? Lol.

Henry really came from far and I am happy he won.

I'm happy about this and I'm pretty shocked as well, I fully expected Orton to retain the title as he's a big star and he only had the title for a short while. But I'm happy because I'm beginning to become a big Henry fan, I'm loving his dominant character and his "Hall of Pain". I think he deserves the title as well as he's been working his ass off the past months and has done a great job.

The similarity between Kane and Henry was that the WWE wanted to kind of reward them. I remember reading when Henry got drafted to SD... they wanted to give him one last big time push.

But I dont think you can compare Kane's reign as champion to Mark Henry's. The Kane and Edge feud was just brutal. Henry's current feud with Orton and his last one with Sheamus have actually been very good.

Henry has been a joke most of his career. But they did a great job of booking him the last few months. He took out two big names in Kane and Big show. And he just pinned the 2nd biggest superstar in the company. He looks believable and has gained a ton of credibility.

The Orton/Christian feud was awesome. But it ran its course. SD needs to build up a couple of top heels. Rhodes will become one but that is in the future. Having a dominant monster heel running around will make it more interesting. Their were rumors of the Taker returning to Vengeance. So it does open up the possibility that Taker will be the one that beats Mark Henry.

This is a perfect example of how steady, long term booking gets people over. They've been focusing on Henry for months and they've given him the chance to shine. I've for one have been surprised with how convincing Henry has been. He has improved vastly on the mic and his in ring work is hugely underrated. His match psychology is phenomenal and he looks absolutely terrifying! He is totally believable.

I really have to take notice when a guy who I have rated so little over the years shows me how good he can actually be. His promo after the match gave me goose pimples it was so good. It was amazing.

Henry deserves this moment. Not because of his loyalty, but because he has been totally flawless in his role. For those people who compare him to all the other big guys like Khali? Well that really shows how little you know about pro wrestling.

Maybe it is about him paying his dues. But when you're given the ball your given the ball you have to run with it. Henry did that. He's now a dominant champ. He earned it to. He's had some solid matches and promos. I had no doubt Henry was going to win. He was on such a roll it would have killed all his momentum. Hopefully he has a solid reign because he's been a pleasant surprise. Hopefully he can keep it up.

I never cared much for Henry. And I am not talking about the way he was booked or buried prior to this, I never noticed it. But I never were impressed by superheavyweights besides Vader anyway. I am really glad he won this because I was hoping for it. Since this new monster push I kind of respected him more. I never doubted him as a big monster but I just never cared for him because of the apparently bad booking he always received. I remember a few years ago on Smackdown they pushed him to the main event but then he got injured, after that he had a run with the ecw title but most of the time he just wasn't doing anything. Now he finally gets his run and I am excited what's going to happen next! The match was way better than I expected and he came over as a legit threat to Orton. Very well done by both men. I thought it was a good match.

I couldn't agree with you more here. I too never saw Mark Henry as anything special, b/c bad booking always kept him from doing anything big. I was almost convinced WWE might do something with him in 2006, when he beat a few big names on SD. When he attacked Benoit and Batista(leading to Batista surrendering the World Title) I thought he was gonna be champion. Then, his fued with Undertaker at WM made me think he might get a nice run as champion. Unfortunately, when he got injured at SNME, that killed his momentum and lead to 4 more years of nothing. Quite frankly, I thought eventually he might be released instead of pushed seriously again.

I'm sure glad WWE decided to pull the trigger on making him champion. This whole heel turn has been intriguing and his character has never looked stronger. Add that to the fact that it was 15 years in the making, and it makes him becoming champion even more credible IMO. It was a refreshing change to see WWE go the opposite direction of my expectations. I thought he might look good in the match, then lose to an RKO or perhaps even lose by DQ. Winning cleanly over Orton was something I didn't think was highly probable. Nice to see Orton not pulling an ego trip and politicing to keep the title and not putting Mark Henry over. I know I'll be watching closely to see how well WWE can benefit from a fresh face in the SD main events.

This is awesome and my moment of the night at Night Of Champions. I don't think Henry deserved it because of the years he's been in WWE. I don't think he deserves it because he may be retiring soon. I think he's earned it. He was given the ball, and he has run with it. He went from being Mark Henry the jobber, to Mark Henry the World Heavyweight Champion through a mixture of talent and great booking.

I call Mark Henry talented. I know that. You may seem lost. Mark Henry is talented. He did manage to get himself over. And impressively, he's done it using a variety of Superstars not named John Cena. That, ladies and gentlemen, is what I like to call "talent". I also think he's actually rather good in the ring. He understands how to work a match and pace it correctly, incorporating high spots into it too.

Mark Henry has fully earned the World Heavyweight Championship, and I can't wait to see what he does with it.

People need to remember Mark Henry has been in the WWE for 15 years he knows how to wrestle and work a match. He hasnt gotten the right push until now cause he was used to put over everyone else. The last time he was pushed as a monster they gave him a mouth in Tony Atlas which didnt do Henry any good at all. He has really done an excellent job with this current push in both the ring and on the mic. He deserves this title reign as much as anybody does. He's got people interested in his storyline and told that story thru his actions in the ring.

Let's hope that his title reign isn't two weeks. They just announced that Orton is going to get a rematch at Hell in the Cell. WWE has a tendency for fucking things up and pulling the plug early.

Would be nice if he went until 'Mania, because every PPV now is a fucking gimmick PPV which will take away from the story they are telling if you ask me. I'm not sold on someone beating a monster heel by putting them through a table, or in an Elimination Chamber. Which means that he needs to hold it until 'Mania....which they won't do.

I haven't posted in a while, but this is pretty interesting to me. I hope they don't fuck it up.

I'm loving the idea of Mark Henry as the World Heavyweight Champion. I love the way they have developed his character, getting him away from the nonsense that has plagued him for a lot of his steer. He's intense, he's physical, he's got a mean streak, and he's huge. I hope they give him an extended run as the WHC. I think his mic skills are good, he's a force in the ring, and he deserves a worthwhile title run. Such a lengthy run would be effective, and whenever someone ultimately comes along to beat him (can you say Daniel Bryan), it will put him over huge.

I am fearful, though, that we are witnessing a two week title run. I hope I am wrong, but I could easily see Orton reclaiming his title in the HIAC, despite all odds. This would be terribly disappointing, and a true slap in the face for Mark Henry.

That's pretty much the main problem WWE has at the moment. They don't have any long term plans for anything and can't seem to keep consistent fresh faces in the ME. Everytime a new star is pushed, WWE suddenly decides they aren't that good after all and depushes them. It's happened to Sheamus, Jack Swagger, The Miz, R-Truth, John Morrison, Drew McIntyre, Christian and the list goes on and on.

I just hope this is one instance where Mark Henry remains a top star and will be given a decent run as champion. His persona now has never looked better or more credible as a badass heel. So, to drop his path of destruction and ignore future built up matches would be ignorant of WWE. He clearly has plently of contenders to defend against since he's put out Big Show and Kane. Add Randy Orton, Sheamus and Christian to that list and I see no reason why he shouldn't retain the belt until WM...

I think this story around Mark Henry's 15 year rise to the top was done very well, best thing WWE has done in a while. Here's how I see this ending, Mark Henry will continue his rampage for a few more months, then during one of his viscous attacks, the lights go out and the gong hits....

That's what I was thinking but I hope not. He needs a decent run but a champ like him can only stay dominant for so long before he kills the competition. He can't always kill the maineventer because it would make them look weak and him weaker when he loses the title. Henry is a champ that needs to lose in like a 3 or a 4 way match and not get pinned therefore he can keep his momentum.

I also hope they don't have Orton beat him in two weeks because that would diminish his win. He's gotten a lot of time and a loss early would kill all his hard work...

I see this as being similar to Kane's reign. For one, I think it'll be a decent length. Maybe 3 months? Might be a push, but hell, I'd be happy if it's at least two.

None the less, a well deserved world title for Henry. A true servant to the business. He's been awesome in recent times and long may that continue.

Ok so long time user of this site and the forums (going on 8 years now) but this is the first time I have posted a thread.
I figured I would start off with Mark Henry and his first run with the Strap, mainly as I can still remember seeing him when I was only a kid and now here he is as the newest Monster Heel and has been cutting better and better promo's and really cementing his status as top heel.
It was last week on the Smackdown before NOC when it occurred to me 100 percent that I really wanted to see Henry win the Championship and to see where exactly the Brand would go from there. Now it seems to be billed as a David V Goliath no matter who Henry faces on the roster as he has been shown to put down Orton with relative ease (Kudos to Orton for dropping it clean to Henry, locker room professionalism at its best, he is growing)
So I guess my question is where do you guys/gals see this situation headed, is Henry just a transitional champ who will drop the title at Hell in a Cell or do you think they might take the JBL/HHH type of route and make him an almost unbeatable champ for a long period of time??
Or are they setting Henry up as unbeatable to re-introduce a new championship feud (eg, Taker, Kane or Big Show?)
I personally think this will be a Orton/Henry(c) long term David v Goliath story with Orton coming up short time and again before he finally defeats the Worlds Strongest Man.
Im looking forward to seeing what your thoughts are :)

Just My Humble Opinion

I hope that Mark gets built up for months and months and then Daniel Bryan challenges him for the WHC and wins clean. That's a real David vs Goliath. It's a perfect setup to get Bryan over.

About time too. Its hard to believe this is only his third Title Reign in WWE. Onlya year or so missed through injury he has been very consistent in WWE and has always been someone who deserved more from WWE. He's approaching the end of his career, so this is a good way to cap it off.

ECW Championship (1 time)
World Heavyweight Championship (1 time, current)
WWF European Championship (1 time)

Dominate, dominate and more domination.

Simple really, he beats Orton @ HITC then Kane comes back at Vengance, Mark beats him and Big Show returns leading to Big Show/Henry/Orton/Kane @ Survivor Series in an elimination match, Henry could drop the belt after all three dominate him and eliminate him first, saves face that it took 3 of them to beat him then he can resume his feud with Big Show leading into TLC and then we have Royal Rumble, he could dominate the rumble before being eliminated and depending who WWE give him at Mania...

I am brand new member but have been going on this site for a few years now. I think (even though it won't happen) that you could set Randy Orton up here to go back to being a heel (which I think he was better). You could have Mark Henry beat him a few more times like a rematch at Hell in a Cell PPV then on Smackdown a few times which will have Randy become furious and the old Orton is back!

nah have him run this all the way to mania 28, whoever beats him after all that time is an instant badass!!! (hopefully bryan but i wont be mad if it were sheamus)
