To me, this isn't about making one person happy over another. When I met my wife 5 years ago, i had just recently split from my ex-fiancee, and her happiness has been my happiness ever since. This to me is more about keeping my word and honoring a commitment. I told her I would watch the dog, and wouldn't it be slightly disingenous of me to put the dog in the kennel after saying Id watch her? However, I do understand your point, and find myself wishing I hadn't said yes in the first place, and also asking my wife in the state she was in at the time. Maybe the kennel isnt the worst idea in the world......
A big part of the question for me would be the circumstances that you and your ex fiancée split over. If it was an amicable mutual split, I'd be torn as you are. If it was a rockier split, I'd look at it differently.
It would be difficult to totally bail on the ex because you made a promise, but if your split was rough, I'd bail and take the wife's side. If you split on good terms, I'd kennel the dog. Either way there's no way I'd be siding with the ex over my wife.

Do it you fool, and be all nonchalant about it. After your ex leaves after she drops it off, go up to your room and tell your wife that you'll be right back, you're just gonna go drop the dog off at the kennel and then come right back. In all likelihood it'll get you laid.
The split was a very amicable one. We had slowly grown apart because my life was crazy in I was working a full-time job, maintaining an internship, and finishing my doctorate, which was time consuming. We had gone from being in love to caring about each other, but realizing I wasn't in a position to offer her what she needed, and vice versa. We never fought, nobody cheated, she was a great girl. I just knew I needed someone who was more understanding of my temporary life situation. When I met my wife, not only was I incredibly attracted to her, I was honest from the beginning as to my hectic schedule, and she was ok with it, knowing it would lead to a better future for us.
The split was easy, my wife just doesnt like my ex whatsoever. My ex is unaware of that, or that this is upsetting my wife. That's not her fault, its mine. But even though I think she's overreacting, her hapiness is still whats most important to me, and I guess I would still be honoring my word to "take care of" the dog by paying to kennel her. That way my ex will never know my wife has an issue, and my wife will be appeased in that we'll be able to do most of the things she wanted to do this weekend. Thanks.

I just hope she's not too pissed off that we won't be able to make the game, or likely get to the hotel until late. I could leave our dog as well, as they're sisters whom we got together right before we split, which would give her someone to play with while there. The only thing stopping you from doing it is your sense of commitment to a woman that you don't love. Do the right thing, put those pups in the kennel and take your wife out for a great weekend.

My commitment is to my word, but Id still be keeping it if I put the dogs in the kennel. My ex wouldn't have to know, my wife would be happy, and it might even work out better that we'ld miss the game because we could get to the hotel earlier and I most certainly would get laid!
