Jesse Sorensen Suffers C1 Vertebrae Fracture at AAO; Out For Full Year

It's Damn Real!

The undisputed, undefeated TNA &

TNA wrestler Jesse Sorensen remains hospitalized with a neck injury that occurred at the Against All Odds pay-per-view on Sunday. He has feeling in his arms and is able to move them. He has a tingling sensation in his legs but is unable to move his legs at this time. Sorensen's spirits are said to be high despite the circumstances.

For those of you who did not watch the Pay-Per-View or are unaware, during the opening bout against Zema Ion, Sorensen took a nasty knee to the head when Ion attempted a back-flip off the second rope to the outside, landing with at least one of his knees directly onto the top of Jesse's head/neck.

Sorensen lay motionless and was eventually counted out, but was transported to the hospital shortly after. Even Hogan and Carter expressed concern over Twitter for him.

I know Sorensen isn't the most praised guy around here, but this is just something you never want to see happen to anyone out there performing for fans.

Awful, no one with any kind of moral fiber wants to see something like this happen. I didn't get to see the match till today but the knee to the head looked very very ugly.

I'm sure everyone in wrestling has come to expect an injury or two in their career and Jesse probably feels like he will get better soon if he is in high spirits. I've never been as big on Sorensen as others around here but I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Terrible news.

I got really worried when he was lying face down with both his toes point inward (that sounds really odd, but I remember picking up on that at the time and feeling a little worried). It's not a normal position to lie in, so I knew something was up.

Also, the way the ref counted, got to 9, then realised 'hang on...'.

I think the guy's got alot of potential, I truly do. I dearly hope he fully recovers from this. It was a nasty knock. I also think his plancha to the outside hurt him, too. The bump from the Missile Dropkick looked like an awful neck bump to go with it.

It's good to head that Sorenson is optimistic despite the injury. I know I'd be in panic mode if it were me. Props to him. I've never been his biggest fan but it always sucks to see this sort of thing happen to performers even if t does come with the territory. I wish Sorenson a speedy recovery.

word is that he can move his upper body (arms neck) and has feeling. Though cant move his legs. As someone who spent early part of childhood in a wheel chair...I really hope he's ale to walk

I watched it live and was like: "Why isn't the ref immediately rushing to check if he's ok... he's not moving!" You could tell is was bad, and he was just left there being counted out.

The thing i don't like about this whole incident is a lot of people are trying to force blame one way or the other for the injury. (Ion didn't land properly, or Sorensen is green and didn't catch him.) After watching the injury take place and re-watching it a few more times, this has to be chalked up as a total accident. Even after getting his bell rung, Sorensen still did a great job at protecting Ion's fall. This is truly just an unfortunate occurrence and we wrestling fans are wishing the best in his recovery. He may not be a highly regarded "superstar" in the business, but he is one of better up and comers, and I hope we will see him again soon.

I havn't actually seen anyone placing blame on anyone, which is good. I'm sorry that you've seen people saying that, because it's clearly an accident.

Now Miz and Truth on the other hand - you could clearly blame The Miz. I'd still say this is wrestling, and accidents do happen (think how many matches someone like the Miz has per week, and how often have we heard of him injuring someone?), but you could certainly put more of the blame on him for that one-off.

With Sorensen and Ion, it was a moonsault plancha that Sorensen caught, but Ion seemed to misdirect ever so slightly. You can't blame Ion for that, though. It's a high risk move, and you won't always hit them 100% perfect, every time.

Tenay and Borash did a splendid job of the extra air time they had by using it as an example of high-risk wrestling (ie. X-Division style).

A real shame it happened to a young guy. Let's hope he's able to make a come-back in some form. Now it'll be interesting to see if TNA help him with his medical bills because, he's gotta be earning peanuts at present.

Just a horrible, freak accident (kinda like Sid's)

Sad that this has happend, hopefully it's just a stinger and he gets the feeling back in his legs asap!

Just goes to show you what a matter of inches can mean in this buisness, If Ions knee would of just grazed the side of his head he probabyt just has a headache instead of the condition he is in now.

The blame lies with no one on this its purely an accident.

Again I hope he makes a speedy recovery and make it back to the ring in due time!

Thoughts are with Sorrenson.. Ion must feel horrible, and hopefully no one is out for his blood on this. This is actually quite horrible news, I hope he gets well soon...

It seems to me that someone gets injured in Impact Wrestling every week.

As sad as this is, I can't help but feel that this was always coming from Impact, and please don't go spouting shit about how i'm a WWE mark or whatever, I couldn't care less. I just saw this coming.

it was a freak accident and it could have happened in any company, the fact that it was tna has absolutely nothing to do with it.

I quit watching TNA awhile ago but this news is just terrible!! No matter how you feel about a superstar love or hate him/her this is the most horrific injury a wrestler fears!!! I hope and pray hes ok my heart goes out to him and his family!! Hope Sorrensen is able to make a speedy 100% recovery and is back in the ring in due time!!

Again this is horrible news i hope and pray hes ok!! Poor guy hang in there Jesse everyone is pulling for you

It just will put things more into perspective for a lot of guys for a while, thoughts are with Sorensen cos it's a horrific thing to go through. I am sure Dixie will ensure he is looked after regardless. Vince showed that example with Droz, that it's good business to look after your young guys who get hurt.

One person who will probably be squirming when he sees it is Miz... Could so easily have been talking about this a week ago with R-Truth...

for now all TNA can do is hope for the best and get some heat out of it. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ion start gloating about how he "took out that chump Sorenson". Gets some video of Jesse in the hospital and rehabing, and you got a nice grudge match in a few months.

The guys on both rosters are pro's, but accidents happen. It's unavoidable and affects both companies. Just last week on Raw, R-Truth took that nasty bump on the concrete and had to quit the match early.

i really hope jesse sorenston gets well soon hes a great talent and it would be a shame to see his career end so early lets hope hes able to walk again and in time get back into a wrestling ring

I'm not the biggest Sorensen fan out there but really this could be tragic and I hope the best for the guy. Just watching that the way he fell afterwards you could tell something was wrong. I'm glad he's regaining feeling and being optimistic about it, really shows what kinda guy he is

He broke his neck in a place which usually means instant quadroplegic. I don't care how much of a heel you're supposed to be - you break character, get down on your god damn knees and fix his head so he can't move, the moment you realize something is wrong. And you damn well make sure that nothing is wrong when you feel your knee bang on someone's head, even if it means you have to drama-fall next to him to make sure.

Otherwise, you're not a good heel, just a terrible human being. Safety first? Good grief...

Are you serious?!? Zema Ion's not a doctor. Moving Sorensen when he's not sure exactly what's wrong with him could injure him even further!

Accidents happen in pro-wrestling. For this reason, doctors are always standing by. I think they did the best they could with the situation.

Thankfully, Sorensen is gaining feeling in his body and they expect a full recovery. That was an extremely scary moment.

You don't need to be a doctor to have elementary CPR and neck/spine trauma fixation training (something that does save lives and I'm honestly wondering why not everyone involved in wrestling gets this kind of training, given the risks involved).

Fixing his head with his knees on either side of it (i.e. in this case on Sorensen's forehead and the back of the head) is fixing the head enough so that no nerve damage occurrs from involontary movement. I'm not saying he should've moved him around and put on a neck brace.

I'm just saying that if there ever was a least bad time to completely break character, that was it right there.

It was still a freak accident. I didn't see what happened I just saw Kurt Angle's tweet then continued on to see a shitload of others pertaining to the situation. Fortunately he does have feeling back in his legs. Thank God for that one.

The true issue here is the high risk moves while flashy can be devastating... I honestly feel like TNA needs a more in depth developmental system (the relationship with OVW is a start) These guys need to have more mat time where they can work and be helped more. This was a freak accident but TNA does have these injuries more frequently than WWE it seems. I just hope this pushes an initiative in TNA and I wish the kid a speedy recovery.
