I've decided to join the Army

blah blah blah you said you weren't gonna share personal info. blah blah blah fiance. I know I did and she knows, She nervous but happy for me.

For the people who are gonna ask I have 4 main reasons.

1) The benefits are awesome. Free insurance, housing and just about everything else.

2) They pay will be awesome. With my college education I will go in as a PFC which mean I will make $1,600 a month. setting aside $800 a month i would have thousands after i got out I would have thousands of dollars saved

3) I'm 24 and need to get out on my own and this is the best way to do it.
like i said damn near everything is provided.

4) last but not least I want to do it.

You could join the Peace Corp. Or do a few circuits for AmeriCorp. At any rate, best of luck to you, just make sure you've really thought this one out before you submit yourself to the hell that is the first few years in the Army. I would never do it, mainly because I don't support this country's idea of freedom and democracy, but if you're looking for discipline and a free ride to whatever you want AFTER you finish (in 8 years...) than there's no better option.

Just be sure of what you're signing away. Maybe talk to some people who are in the Army that AREN'T trying to recruit you (they get paid for your "yes"). I almost joined the Navy a few years ago - had the papers in front of me and everything. Looking back I'm glad I didn't. There are other ways of getting stability and control in your life.

EDIT: Wow. Thanks guys. Now I just look like the dick... xD

My advice, choose a specialization that would help you get a job once you are done your service.

My advice: listen to Pancake's advice.

Also, since you have already gone to college, once your basics are done, are they going to try to recruit you into Officer Candidate School?

What Pancake and Davi said, try to learn a trade in the Army that can help you when you get out.

Good luck though, Milenko. I think this will be good for you and hopefully you make it through okay. When do you start?

Any idea when you're heading out? Well it be this year?
Yes. I take the Asvab monday and after I get everything ok there it should be about 6 months
Good luck Milenko. It's tough choice to make and I'm sure you'll do great.

What job are you going for? Infantry or something specific?
I'm hoping to get a Culinary job if there are any open. If not I'm not against learning something new
Good luck. Have you found out if you meet all of the requirements yet?
My recruiter said I should be fine

Hence the reason I'm hoping for a Culinary job

Whenever they ship me out. The normal waiting period is 6 months

Good on you, Milenko. More people ought to consider this decision. Just make sure it really is what you want and that it's the right decision for you, considering the magnitude.

To pass the Pt you have to do a minimum of: 40 pushups, 50 setups, and run 2 miles in 16:36 or less. When I first looked into it my stuff was alot diffrent, you can do it in six months. But it's going to be hard, a 31 on your asvab is kid shit. I fucked off during mine and got a 52.
