The most overrated of all time? Hell no. Not even remotely close. Off the top of my head, names that spring to mind that have far more merit for the "honor" of being the most overrated superstar of all time include Bill Goldberg, Rob Van Dam, Shane Douglas, Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner, Lex Luger, Batista & Kevin Nash among others.
Triple H has his critics just as virtually every major star professional wrestling has ever produced does. There are always going to be other wrestlers that are simply upset that someone else got the spots they feel that they deserved. You hear about it all the time, especially in this day and age. If I had a dollar for every disgruntled guy that worked ever worked for a huge wrestling company that gave a shoot interview or posted a video on the internet saying that they should have been a main eventer, I could have long since retired to my own private tropical island somewhere. A cold hard fact of life, one among many in pro wrestling, is that not everybody can be, is good enough to be and/or is going to be a main eventer. For one thing, there's just simply not enough spots and that's something that all the backstage politics in the world can't be blamed for. Creating main event stars isn't an exact science, never has been. The powers that be have to ultimately look at a guy and, based on what they see out of him, decide that he should be in the top spot or he shouldn't. Do talented guys sometimes get passed over? Yes they do, unfortunately, but, again, that's just how it goes. Sometimes the right call is made and sometimes it isn't. The majority of the ones that do bitch and complain have to have someone to blame. It's easier than admitting that they just simply didn't have the stuff, even if they only admit it to themselves.
First and foremost, Vince McMahon is a businessman. His entire life is the WWE and that's not likely to change. If Vince didn't feel that Triple H deserved to be a main eventer for the past decade, then Trips wouldn't have been there. Triple H has been a 13 time World Champion & main event level talent for all this time for one very important reason: he's a draw. If you're a draw, that means you make money. If you make money, then why shouldn't you be elevated to higher spots on the roster? It's not about what's "fair" or "right", it's about what puts asses in seats both in arenas and at home in front of the television. Triple H does that and he does that because a LOT of people like seeing him do his thing. The fans care what he does and THAT is ultimately what matters the most. Doesn't matter how many flips you can do, doesn't matter how handsome your face is, doesn't matter how tight your abs are, doesn't matter how many amaterur championships you won, doesn't matter how many years you may have killed yourself working the indy circuit if you can't get the fans to invest their time and money in you. Triple H can, he does and that's why he's where he's at.
