Let me tell you how to fix it. Next time, and from now on, anyone accuses you of trying too hard, say "fuck you." The same holds true for anytime someone calls you unfunny, suggests banning you from the bar, or insults you in pretty much any way imaginable. Don't ask how you can improve. Simply say "go fuck yourself" or some variant thereof.
