Goldberg's WWE Run

I managed to stumble upon a website that has a complete list of matches for certain wrestlers throughout their careers. I looked up Goldberg because I was curious to know how manyn times he wrestled for WWE. The answer is 38.

Of those 38 he lost 6.

One being a Rumble match in which 29 motherfuckers lose as well.
One being an Elimination Chamber match where 5 other people lose as well.
One was a 3-on-1 handicap match against Evolution members.
And the rest have slipped my mind.

Seems like he was booked strongly throughout that year. So does this mean that Goldberg was actually just rubbish?

I liked Goldberg when I was younger and still have nothing against him. I enjoyed his time in WCW that I saw. That said, he was the product of good enough booking against one of the ultimate heels of our time.

Like everything else wrong with that time period, I blame it on Triple H being a pile of shite.

That said, watch Backlash, Goldberg beats The Rock to a negative reception from certain elements, Rock even kind of addresses it after the match, so he had a bad start on top of everything else.

The Goldberg Blu-Ray made me realise how limited he was when it came to wrestling long matches. It's a shame he got put on Raw with Jericho who was in one of his down periods and Evolution who were stinking up arenas coast-to-coast. There was probably more interest to be had on Smackdown with Lesnar, Angle, Undertaker & Big Show.

But man, those WCW squash matches sure were something. And that Mania match is a hoot.

Evolution is what made me briefly stop watching WWE and look for an alternative. Then I found ROH. I owe Evolution that.

I'd say Goldberg is God but he's Jewish so I might get a spear for saying that. I do love "Da Man" to bits though. Probably my favorite WCW wrestler with Booker T, Sting & Chris Kanyon as close contenders.

By the time Goldberg entered WWE, his schtick had been appropriated and improved upon by Brock Lesanar.

He won a lot, but he wasn't used very well. Should've had bigger, long-lasting feuds with a few huge names.

As bad as HHH was back then I'm not sure there was any other heel at the time that could have made a feud with Goldberg any better. Even on SD! Angle had already done the cowardly heel schtick with Lesnar months prior. At that point and time there was literally nothing else for Goldberg to do besides bore RAW to tears with Evolution.

Yeah I don't think it was Triple H's fault I think Goldberg just sucks. His entrance was cool but everything after that I always thought "man this guy is awful". Then Brock Lesnar burst onto the scene and in his short time in the company he was my favorite wrestler I always looked forward to seeing him because he was awesome. Anyway, Goldberg sucks I do think his feuds were part of the problem though. Maybe if his Lesnar one wouldn't have sucked or he could have had one with The Undertaker that's pretty much it though.

There's two sides to this, one, the fans may have boo'ed him even more had they seen him work with an Angle or Benoit; two, they could've carried him to longer matches although, his match against Raven for the US strap is both lengthy AND fun.

i think it was a good run but the point is,RAW didn't have a good face to face Evolution,and not to mention Triple H was dominating the brand since the inception of his stable,so i don't think its his fault,he's a good athlete and wrestler but wasn't lucky in Vince's company.

I don't think Goldberg was rubbish he was just a little one dimensional, he could come down to the ring and smash people. He had a pretty cool entrance too.

To be fair Goldberg was held down a bit by more established stars like Triple H but he kind of had himself to blame for that considering he never had Oscar winning acting skills or anything.

Goldberg had the high impact moves and the cool entrance but apart from that.

Goldberg absolutely doesn't suck. He got over in WCW when babyface characters outside of Sting weren't allowed to get over. He became a bigger deal than the nWo, and in WCW in the late 90's, that wasn't easy.

He shouldn't have gone to WWE. It was a little too late, his celebrity had dropped and they weren't in position to shoot him to the absolute top of the roster. I thought his run was fun, just a tad underwhelming.

One of the major problems was who he was surrounded by, they waited too long to put the title on him, his feud with Triple H lasted too long (five months), then the entire thing with Lesnar was screwed up in the end due to a) Goldberg barely featuring to build the match and Austin having to get too involved. Lesnar deserves credit too mind you, one of his better promos was during that feud, "Please, Mr. McMahon, I beg of you, give me Bill Goldberg!"

Also that "who tried to run over Goldberg" angle right after he defeated The Rock was silly. Only good part came when Austin interrogated Lance Storm.
