Mistaken Catastrophe

Edge & Rey Mysterio def. Alberto Del Rio in a Handicap Match
World Heavyweight Champion Kane failed to show up in order to team with Alberto Del Rio against Edge & Rey Mysterio. As a result, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long changed the main event into an impromptu Handicap Match. While the match was in progress, Kane charged to the ring and attacked The Ultimate Opportunist. Edge quickly gained the advantage and took off, with “The Devil’s Favorite Demon” hot on his heels. Mysterio and Del Rio battled on. In the end, The Ultimate Underdog reigned supreme over Del Rio with an explosive 619-splash combination. What will happen when the bitter adversaries meet in a Chairs Match at WWE TLC in nine days? When Kane caught up with The Rated-R Superstar, he was standing near what appeared to be Paul Bearer, sitting at the top of two ladders, very close to the edge of a high overhang. Dismissing it as another one of his maniacal No. 1 contender’s tricks, The Big Red Monster proceeded to push the ladders over the railing, sending the wheelchair and its occupant to the concrete floor below. Only then did the horrific Superstar realize that it had been the real “Father of Destruction."

Divas Champion Natalya def. Layla
After Beth Phoenix prevented Michelle McCool from interfering in her “flawless” partner’s match – dropping her to the ringside floor with absolute authority – Natalya made Layla tap out to the family Sharpshooter.

WWE Tag Team Champions Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov def. Chavo Guerrero & Drew McIntyre
Four days after Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov captured the WWE Tag Team Titles on Monday Night Raw, the uncommon pair journeyed to SmackDown and triumphed over Guerrero and his hand-picked partner, Drew McIntyre. After Santino overcame Guerrero with the Cobra, the “Chosen One” hit his own partner with a post-match Future Shock DDT.

Chris Masters def. “Dashing” Cody Rhodes in a Masterlock Challenge
Though Cody Rhodes agreed to take the Masterlock Challenge, he delayed it from beginning several times in order to try and make his surroundings more “dashing” – wiping down the seat, applying hand sanitizer and even offering Chris Masters a nail file. When Masters slapped the handsome Superstar in the face, Rhodes completely lost his composure. As Rhodes turned to a mirror to make sure his face was still “perfect,” The Masterpiece used the distraction to lock in his favorite maneuver and win the challenge.

Kofi Kingston def. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler by Disqualification
In an intense Intercontinental Championship Match, Kofi Kingston looked as if he might reclaim the title with the help of Trouble in Paradise. However, as he went for the cover, Jack Swagger came from nowhere to pull the high-flying No. 1 contender out of the ring. Cinching in his dreaded ankle lock for the second time of the night, Swagger gave Kofi a win by disqualification, but prevented him from capturing the title.

Hornswoggle def. The Soaring Eagle
With the beautiful Rosa Mendes in his corner, Hornswoggle took on The Soaring Eagle. Using an array of hilarious tricks, Swoggle picked up a victory over his feathered foe with the Tadpole Splash.

Jack Swagger def. Kaval
One week ago, Jack Swagger lost an Intercontinental Championship No. 1 Contender’s Match to Kofi Kingston. This time, despite Kaval’s incredible efforts to battle back from a leg injury, a focused All-American American used “The World Warrior’s” damaged appendage to defeat him with the ankle lock. Following the match, Swagger informed the WWE Universe that he was protesting the Intercontinental Championship Match between Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston and that any attempt to have such a match without him was “unacceptable.”

World Heavyweight Champion Kane begged Edge to give Paul Bearer back
Weeks after Edge abducted Paul Bearer, “The Devil’s Favorite Demon” pleaded that The Master Manipulator return his father. When Edge appeared, wielding a chair, he ignited another insane pursuit in which the nine-time World Champion destroyed more fake Paul Bearers.

World Heavyweight Champion Kane vs. Edge (TLC Match)

At WWE TLC, the vengeful rage of an uncontrollable monster will clash head-on with one of the most maniacal Superstars ever to set foot in the squared circle, as World Heavyweight Champion Kane battles Edge in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match for the World Title. It all started after Edge captured the right to challenge Kane for the World Title at Survivor Series on the Oct. 29 edition of SmackDown. The Master Manipulator immediately set a plan in place to turn the tables of intimidation of his frightening opponent by abducting Kane’s father, Paul Bearer. Their brutal Survivor Series title match failed to put their tensions to rest, ending in a controversial draw, with Kane still in possession of the title and Edge still in possession of Kane’s father. Back on SmackDown, Edge continued to make The Big Red Monster play his games week after week, dangling his terrified father just out of his reach. Desperately trying to get Paul Bearer back, Kane offered Edge another championship match. Although Edge accepted, he continued to torment “The Devil’s Favorite Demon,” destroying a series of fake Paul Bearers, presenting the illusion that they were the real “Father of Destruction.” Edge’s efforts allowed him to defeat Kane in a non-title match on the Dec. 3 edition of SmackDown, giving The Ultimate Opportunist the right to choose the stipulation of their World Title match at WWE TLC. He wasted no time choosing his “specialty,” a Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match. The Rated-R Superstar has been involved in TLC matches since their creation and his success has been second to none. In the 10-match history of one of the squared circle’s most dangerous and exciting specialty matches, the nine-time World Champion has competed in six of them and been on the winning side of four. The Big Red Monster has been virtually unstoppable since wining the World Heavyweight Championship and is no stranger to intense specialty matches. Though he doesn’t possess Edge’s record with TLC onslaughts, he has taken them to new heights. In a classic TLC Match on Monday Night Raw in 2002, the horrific Superstar single-handedly reigned supreme over three tag teams to retain the then-active World Tag Team Title. But, has the continued absence of Kane’s father thrown him so far off his game that he will not be mentally able to defeat The Master Manipulator? Or will it only add to his rage?

Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio

Sometimes, people genuinely don’t like each other. Such is the case with Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio, who will go to war using either tables, ladders or chairs at WWE TLC. Before Del Rio even arrived in WWE this year, he talked a lot of smack. Then in his first match ever, "The Essence of Excellence" backed up weeks of self-aggrandizement with a huge win over Mysterio. Just one week later, Del Rio put The Master of the 619 out of commission by viciously attacking him and breaking his wrist. Ever since that fateful night, Del Rio has continued to belittle Rey, calling him a "little Chihuahua." When Mysterio finally returned after his injury, Del Rio went as far using a dog in a Mysterio mask to poke fun at his adversary. But Mysterio finally gained some payback when Team Mysterio beat Team Del Rio in a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match at Survivor Series. Most recently, Del Rio cost Mysterio a chance at qualifying for the King of the Ring Tournament. But, Mysterio fired back by driving into Raw in one of Del Rio’s luxury cars, ultimately costing him his chance to be king. Then, after learning from SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long that the pay-per-view encounter with Del Rio was officially made, Mysterio broke the news to his foe on SmackDown. The Master of the 619 capped off the big announcement by smashing Del Rio through a table. With such deep-seated contempt for one another, their encounter on the pay-per-view stage has all the makings for a classic. The only question that remains is will the weapons of war be tables, ladder or chairs?

Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Jack Swagger (Triple Threat Ladder Match)

At WWE: Tables, Ladders & Chairs, Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler will put his title on the line against Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger in a Triple Threat Ladder Match. With the golden prize glistening overhead, the three Superstars will climb to new heights amidst the ultra-hazardous rungs of ruin. In the Ladder Match, Ziggler, Kingston and Swagger will fight tooth-and-nail, struggling to ascend a ladder before their opponents in order to snatch victory and the coveted gold. In addition to the anticipated turmoil that accompanies a normal Triple Threat Match, the true X-factor will be to what extent the simple climbing device will be transformed into a weapon of “mat" destruction. Although none of the three Superstars has even competed in a regular Ladder Match in WWE, they have all wielded the ladder while competing in intense Money in the Bank Ladder Matches. Dolph Ziggler has become an extremely dangerous competitor since capturing the illustrious title from Kingston on the Aug. 6 edition of SmackDown. Aligning himself with his powerful girlfriend – SmackDown Official Consultant Vickie Guerrero – and through his expert utilization of both the sleeper hold and the Zig Zag, the bleach blond champion has truly become a force to be reckoned with. And after polishing his aggressive style in two Money in the Bank Ladder Match showdowns, Ziggler looks more than ready to rise to the extreme challenge. The always-electrifying Kofi Kingston repositioned himself to reclaim the prestigious title from Ziggler, capturing the No. 1 contender opportunity with a hard-fought win over former World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger on SmackDown. However, feeling cheated out of an Intercontinental Title opportunity against Kofi, Swagger interfered with the Ziggler-Kofi title bout one week later. Kingston’s explosive high-flying style is tailor-made for the high altitude insanity of the Ladder Match, something he has demonstrated in three ladder jousts in which he scaled the rungs for the Money in the Bank briefcase. Speaking of the destiny changing ladder bout to bank on, Swagger has not only competed in the WrestleMania XXVI Money in the Bank Ladder Match, he triumphed – cashing in his prize to capture the World Heavyweight Championship. Simply put, Swagger knows how to use the ladder to attain championship gold. And with his infamous ankle lock and an arsenal of technically superior maneuvers at his disposal, Swagger could quite possibly walk out of WWE TLC with the title. Which of the three Superstars will climb to glory?

Divas Champion Natalya & Beth Phoenix vs. Team Lay-Cool (Divas Tag Team Tables Match)

Divas Champion Natalya & Beth Phoenix would like nothing better than to teach Michelle McCool & Layla some manners. And at WWE TLC, they will try and “set the table,” against Team Lay-Cool in the first-ever Divas Tag Team Tables Match. The reign of self-professed “Co-Divas Champions” Michele & Layla came to a sudden halt at Survivor Series, when third-generation Diva Natalya captured the Butterfly Title in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match, making Michelle tap-out with the Sharpshooter. When the “flawless” duo attacked the new champion after the match, Beth Phoenix surprised the WWE Universe, reemerging from an injury that Lay-Cool caused several months ago to clean house. The Glamazon exploded onto the scene, taking out both members of Team Lay-Cool before helping Natalya celebrate her history-making new title reign. For the next few weeks Beth Phoenix continued to be a thorn in the side of the former champions on SmackDown, taking them out as they were mocking Hornswoggle and stopping Michelle’s interference as Layla took on Natalya. But business was about to pick up for Lay-Cool just days before WWE TLC. One-half of SmackDown's resident "Mean Girls," the ornery Michelle McCool, eliminated Natalya in the Diva Battle Royal – netting she and her conceited cohort Layla not only the Slammy for Diva of the Year, but also the opportunity to inflict damage on the blonde beauties in the first-ever table encounter of its kind. Will Divas Champion Natalya and her best friend The Glamazon leave splinters in Team Flawless, or will the Michelle McCool & Layla have the last laugh?

Find out at WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs, Sunday, Dec. 19 at 8/7 CT, only on pay-per-view.

Can't wait...should be here. Strangely, I'm seeming to get a little more fond of the Cole a bit more and more each week. Don't think I'm a fan yet. But growing less annoyed with him. LOL

Edge still hasn't realized the obvious: he's facing Kane, a phycho, who is pissed off as fuck in a match where weapons are legal.

Edge....making Hide and Go Seek cool again...LOL. Still the quote of Monday night was from Edge during his acceptance speech "And to this day Cole is still a TOOL"

duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuddde

fatal 4 way TLC match? This is turning into a TNA ppv. Except y'know, not shit

Is anyone else a little tired of Rey?? Ultimate underdog my ass...I'm sorry. I'd rather watch Alberto's chihuahua fight.

I've been tired of Rey since his first WHC reign. He's fun to watch in the ring, but they really need to stop the "Ultimate Underdog" shtick.
