Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

I've never actually read any GOTG comics, so I have no idea. The only time outside of this trailer I've ever seen GOTG in anything was an episode of Avengers: EMH, where I don't remember than being such a joke there.

The GotG trailer actually had me interested, mainly because I was unaware that the Guardians were something of a 'joke.' Is that something that is in the comics or is it a movie thing?

I don't think they're seen as a joke as much as they are a bunch of misfits. That said, I'm actually more familiar with the original Guardians of the Galaxy from Earth-691 (as opposed to 616), though I'd hardly call my knowledge comprehensive.

Nothing set in stone yet. Im good with Sue & Reed, but the other two have me a tad worried. Either way, I just dont care about the film yet. Give me the villains & I may change my mind depending on where they go with the story.

Pretty sure the cast is set. Jordan and Teller have been rumored to be attached forever now anyway and Jordan confirmed he signed on months ago.

Kind of stealing The Avengers' shtick there, aren't they?

Ahem.

I'd actually love Barbosa to shed some light on the earliest known band of misfits in history.

Virtually any pre-Industrial army is a band of misfits.

There are plenty of rebel factions throughout history who would count. Not sure many of them would be considered as having done good though.

Not really enough know about them to have a 'favourite.'

The Bagaudae of Gaul might claim to be a bit Robin Hoodish but really they were just making things worse. The emperor Julian employed a unit of barbarian head hunters along the Rhine under a man called Charietto, who sounds like he should be fighting the Musketeers but was likely a complete animal.

The two World Wars are probably the best resource for such misfits.

The Belarussians in WW2 seemed to get a fairly brutal kicking, to put it mildly, then banded together in their forest settlements.

I can't remember if I've asked this before, but have you seen the film 'Come and See'? I believe it is from the 80s and has the most incredibly unsettling second half of a film I've ever seen.

Would I be right in thinking that it wasn't just the Belarussians in Europe who took to living in the forests/woods for a prolonged time?

Today was easily the craziest day of work I've had yet. Some dude that is full blown delusional thought I was Jesus. I tried to tell him that I wasn't, but he wasn't having any of it. It was pretty awesome.

Not really. The Avengers didn't really fit together, but individually they weren't exactly misfits. Yeah, Iron Man is a little brash and Hulk isn't exactly easy to control, but other than that there was little stopping them from being a team other than egos colliding. With Guardians of the Galaxy they unite over their misfitness.

This is getting dangerously close to an historical tangent... we have a thread for that...

Get your tangents out of my yard!

You just had to walk over that puddle on the way in the building, didnt you....

Considering you dont look much like the guy I guess you were playing the part of Jesus in the sequel? Jesus 2: Go Save Yourself.

Oh damn, Im on a roll now:

Is it wrong that I think you should've just said "yes my child" and moved on with your day?

Welp, after seven years of driving I finally got into my first car accident today. It wasn't my fault at all: some guy just plowed into me when he was switching lanes. I'm okay, my car is drivable, he said he'll take complete responsibility for the accident... so as far as car accidents go, this one is going pretty well for me. That said, I'm still pretty pissed off about it since it's just one more thing I'm going to have to deal with.

I had an extremely drunk girl think I was Jesus at one point when I was like 17 (I had long brown hair, beard, so on and so on). We were trying to take care of her when she drank entirely way too much then she could handle. So in the process of her friends trying to get her to not freak out/cry/etc. they told them that Jesus was here and pointed to me. Oldest joke in the book with a guy with long hair and a beard of course, but she looks up at me, tilts her head and suddenly she is completely enraptured with me.

She proceeded to ask me if I forgave her sins, if she was going to heaven, etc etc. So I played along since I didn't have much choice, if it meant helping this chic not freak out, sure. Didn't think nothing of it until she started rubbing my arms and asking me if I worked out at all. And finally follows that up with: Jesus is hot, I'd fuck Jesus.

Yeah...that was a bit much and a bit awkward. Had this happened when she was sober, sure, then I'm all for playing along at that point, but in no circumstance would I take advantage of a situation like this. And I didn't, even though she made it extremely difficult as she was all over me the rest of the night. Basically I got to babysit a girl who was probably close to alcohol poisoning and thought I was a sexy Jesus all night until she got back to normal.

Come to find out later on when we tried hanging out when there wasn't booze and Jesus intermixing that we had 0 in common.

That sucks. Luckily, I only have one car accident to worry about (happened four years ago), and it wasn't my fault. Oddly enough, it happened in the one place, where you would never expect an accident to happen: on the streets of my neighborhood, where the speed limit is 20 MPH now (used to be 30, but they had to change it and they put speed bumps every where, because a bunch of assholes were doing 60 and above).

I still had my Honda Civic (loved that car, but I made the choice to total it, because dad said it wasn't worth the repairs), and I was blowing my horn like crazy, but this guy in a pick up truck back right into me. He crushed the front on the right side. I was pissed at first, but I calmed down, when the guy's wife (she was pregnant) stepped out. The wife was a cop, the guy was a firefighter, and he took full blame for it. So in the end, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I had my first accident last month as well. Totaled my car and broke my hand. Now I have a new (for me) car and just got out of a cast this week.

Does your insurance pay for a rental car while your vehicle is in for repairs (which should be covered by insurance as well)?

I think I waived the part of my insurance that would pay for a rental, but I'm not sure that matters since I'm 24, and as far as I know you need to be 25 to rent a car.

Sorry to hear about your car and your hand. What happened?

I think some places rent to <25's, but it probably costs more.

Someone decided it was in their best interest to get on the parkway and come to a complete stop. I rear ended a car that stopped for that guy, who bailed as soon as he heard crunch. I had an 02 Chevy Malibu with 140000 miles, and even if the car could have been fixed they wouldn't because it isn't cost effective.

Here's a pic of the car. Air Bags didn't deploy, as I didn't hit my bumper (where the air bag sensors are). All in all I'm lucky as shit that all that happened was a broken hand.

Thankfully I was able to drive the car off to the side of the road otherwise I'd probably have gotten hit from behind as well.

Damn dude, that is rough, but at least it sounds like you got all you could out of that car. I'm glad you got out of it with just a broken hand, though I can't imagine that was a fun injury either. Was it your dominant hand? Also, did the insurance company find you at fault for the accident?

Oddly enough, I did get a rental car... a Chevy Malibu. It's not quite as nimble and dare I say, kickass as my Mazda, but I'm pretty satisfied with it. It's going to take some getting used to driving a car that size, though.

I got into a accident on the way to a concert in high school, I tried getting through on a yellow light & some dude hit me at like 55 mph (in a 35 mph zone), fucked up his car way more than mine, as we were waiting for the police to show up, he tells me this is the second time in a year he's gotten into an accident at that same light, last time he hit a guy on a motor cycle... I was found at fault for "failure to yield", missed the concert, & had to wait months to buy a new car (which wasn't really an issue, school was like 6 short blocks from my house, & work was literally across the street).

I also had some dick run into my car while it was parked on the street in front of my house, & took out the driver side taillight & damaged a bunch of other shit around that corner of the car in a hit in run in the middle of the night, that no one saw so despite it not being my fault, & not being found at fault, i was still stuck paying a $500 deductible to get my car fixed, insurance took care of the other $600+ in repairs.

1. I got all I could out of it. I bought it in 08 from my parents who bought it new, and I had been the primary driver of the vehicle since about 2005 or 2006.

2. It is my left hand and I'm left handed. It isn't fun at all. For the first 2 weeks in the cast I couldn't tie my shoes or zip my coat. Now that I'm out of the cast and into a splint I am able to at least tie my shoes and stuff. However I still can't use my left hand for much of anything. My therapist would probably be pissed that I'm actually typing with 2 hands again.

3. New York has this sweet little thing called No Fault, so they really don't worry about whose fault it was. My rates have gone up a bit, which is expected, but it's not bad.

4. The worst part? I haven't played my Playstation since the accident. Not by choice, but by I can't hold the controller.

Oddly enough, I did get a rental car... a Chevy Malibu. It's not quite as nimble and dare I say, kickass as my Mazda, but I'm pretty satisfied with it. It's going to take some getting used to driving a car that size, though.
Ironic. And the Malibu may not be as nimble as your Mazda, but it's a Chevy, and as such it's got the one big advantage over Mazda. It's from MURICA!

I got a fucking minivan for a rental car (it was all they had at the time and they gave it to me for the price of a regular car). That shit took forever to get used to, and now that I have my own car (2008 Impala), I have to get used to that again.
