Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

So I started playing Civilization 5 yesterday... and just finished my first game today.

The only version of Civilization I had played before this one was the XBox 360 version of Civilization, and while it was great fun, it definitely seemed to be simplified a great deal. Well not this one. This one took me fifteen hours to beat one game, and it was complicated as shit. Religions, policies, luxury resources, tile upgrades, city-states... it was an ordeal.

For those interested (Barbosa), I played as the Danes and wound up winning by scientific victory. I probably could have won by conquest if I was so inclined, but I couldn't bring myself to turn on my Byzantine and American allies after they were so helpful in wiping the Egyptians off the map. I did take care of the Songhai and the Carthaginans all by myself, though.

Now that I have crossed into TW, I can never go back.

Is Total War an objectively better game, or is it just a preference since it deals with the Roman Empire and what not?

And I am excite. Mostly because I have a bunch of question about your wedding, like... what do I do?

Rome is just one of the TW games. TW encompasses a ton of different periods and areas. There are two medievil ones, one of the early americas, a couple based in the far east, and two about Ancient Rome.

Its more the historical accuracy and actually getting to fight your battles on an in game map, with true battlefield strategy involved. Its like a whole 'nother game added to Civilization.

I DOOO hope someday an alternate history TW comes out, with the randomly generating maps that civilization comes out with. Those are pretty awesome.

and what do you mean what do you do? Should be info in the invitation.

I think I had a roommate that played that game, and it did seem very cool. Is it turn based like Civilization, or is it more like Age of Empires with real time play?

Mostly I just need to know what hotel to make a reservation for. Other than that I think I can figure it out.

Its kind of both. The turns are a lot like Civilization, just a bit more stretched out / involved, especially, of course, if you get into a battle. Which is like, half the gameplay.

In the invite, there should be our website info. On the website, the hotel info will be in there. She has this big fantasy that everyone is staying in this hotel that is fairly absurdly priced. I have told her from the beginning, an amount such as that is not nothing to most people, and I doubt very sincerely that anyone is staying there for more than one night.

A favor though. if you can swing it, stay there the night before the actual ceremony, or at least stay were NJX is staying. The idea is to avoid me spending the entire day beforehand doing rescue missions

One of the few drawbacks of Civilization is that there is little in the way of tactics when it comes to battles. The only tactic is to send better units against worse units.

Should be no trouble. And I don't think you'll have to worry about running rescue missions, we'll all have our cars down there.

This should be posted here. I want to see if I can seduce one of Norcals future in laws.

Ill let J Glass tell you about my sister in law(if he took note at our engagement breakfast thingy). Whom is single.

Lets just say....I have done my utmost to avoid that mine field (of any sort of mention of anything about her) for reasons that should be fairy obvious.

*cough*

Uh, yea. TW is like, for real legit miitary strategy style battles, that you actually command on the battlefield. IE placing your archers on flanks/higher ground, flanking your enemy with calvary, moving infantry out of the way for a sudden calvary charge, focusing all of your energy on taking out the opposing general so that the army scatters and runs, etc etc etc. Its pretty intense.

Its not really you guys with whom I am concerned :lmao:

That sounds awesome. The other day I was watching Age of Empire II games between like, super competitive teams (we're talking Asian level here), and I was amazed by how much strategy actually went into the battles. TW sounds like it's a little more geared towards real strategy though, and not video game strategy.

Fair enough. I'm sure the NJX crew will be able to coordinate pretty well with IC at the helm.

Yea it gets pretty crazy, and is extremely satisfying at time, when you set the enemy up perfectly, or come up with a strategy according to your battlefield terrain (one time I fought a battle with 400 guys against 1800, and won because we had a WAY elevated position, and i Had artillery IE archers and catapults to rain down on them. by the time they finally got up to me, it was closer to 650 vs 400, and if you are a skilled general, those numbers aren't too shabby at all, especially if you have calvary units)

The only one I've got is Medieval; Total War, and I got pissed off because my Capital states can't raise more than 100 Peasants in a year, not that I ever use Peasant's, Vikings and Feudal Men at Arms for me all the way, but I am all like "have you never heard of raising your levies for war, you *****!"

Shame my computer is a pile of shit, otherwise I'd never stop playing those games. I just stick with Fallout 1 and the Movies.

Doesn't sound like my type, anything wrong with her parents?

I took note of her, but only so much as the fact that she's very pretty. Other than that I can't say I know much of anything about her.

Man I got friends moving left and right lately.

My friend Aaron's moving 4 hours away next week, and my friend Deborah is leaving in two weeks after her house sells.

My other friend Travis is getting divorced in the very near future and I'm pretty sure he'll leave town too.

Now who the fuck do I hang out with?

My girlfriend and I are in a similar situation. Our two best friends moved within a couple months of each other. The one moved to California, the other is teaching in Japan until the summer of 2015 :(

You could always move South & hang out with me:shrug:

I think Andrew Luck just wants me to break shit in my living room. Second freaking pass of the game and he throws a pick! Already down 7-0. :banghead:

I see you quit while you were ahead.

I went to my friend's house to watch the game, and the living room was packed with Pats fans. I was the only one outwardly rooting for the Colts, but I was fairly polite about it. I was impressed that the Colts managed to keep it close for most of the game, but you can't throw four INTs and win against the Pats.

Andrew Luck threw 9 INTs all season and then 7 in two playoff games. Not great.

That sucks. I'll have my family start harassing me about the Colts losing. It also didn't help the referees once again were helping the Patriots as they got away with tripping at one point and what looked like pass interference in the end zone as well.

Wasn't in 8 in 2 games? I still don't like Luck. I don't think he has what it takes to become an elite QB.

Are you not from New England? Why do you hate the Pats so much?

He had a great year and not many weapons on that Colt's offense. He's got what it takes I think.
