Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

But the dictionary definition stays the same, just cause people decide to use a word improperly doesn't mean the definition changes.

zombie

zom·bie
[zom-bee]
noun
1. a. the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose.

b. the supernatural force itself.

2. Informal.
a. a person whose behavior or responses are wooden, listless, or seemingly rote; automaton.

b. an eccentric or peculiar person.

3. a snake god worshiped in West Indian and Brazilian religious practices of African origin.

4. a tall drink made typically with several kinds of rum, citrus juice, and often apricot liqueur.

5. Canadian Slang. an army conscript assigned to home defense during World War II.

That is the definition of a fucking zombie, dead person brought back with out any will of there own. The definition, or at least that part of the definition has not changed.

So you didn't notice all those other meanings you posted, like the ones that are almost certainly older than the definition you focus on?

How about the second informal definition that uses the word automaton, which would describe those under the effects of an infection?

You mean the informal definitions? yeah I see them, I also see that they're informal & not the first definitions given.

That doesn't make them any less valid.

Or does post only mean

Also as Barbs and Miko have said, a dictionary is a working document. Stuff changes. Much as I hate to say it 'would of' will likely be grammatically correct within the decade simply because so many goddamn people use that rather than the correct contraction would've.

So with this logic, any dog with rabies is a zombie?

Popular usage does change the meaning of words over time. You don't have to like it, but it happens. Just look at words like gay, queer, and ******. None of those words mean now what they did just sixty or seventy years ago.

I dislike fast zombies, I'm a huge fan of the work Romero and Savini did to bring their vision of the monster to the mainstream, but for the most part their idea is rapidly dying out. Slow moving brain eating zombies have been replaced by scarier super human zombies driven by a craving for all human flesh.

Of course there are still popular forms of media that do slow zombies well, but slow zombies have almost never been about the zombies themselves being scary. They are almost always used as a device to show how rapidly human beings will change and turn on each other in times of crisis. Romero himself once said the real monsters of his movies aren't the zombies, but the living humans.

Going to the Blackhawks parade/rally tomorrow is proving to be a hassle. Next time I'm going by myself, just because I don't have to coordinate with other people.

All the cool people will be sitting at home in misery.

Are you going to the Sox game on Saturday by any chance? A friend of mine just told me he had extra tickets so Katie and I will be there.

Yeah but I want to be part of the over 2 million people in attendance. Looking like at least 3 mil.

Actually I'm not. After the parade/rally tomorrow I'll be attending the Twi-Night doubleheader. 2 games, 1 ticket? Sold.

That means it'll be unusually pleasant everywhere else then, since all of you people will be in one place.

Damn, can't beat that. Where are you sitting? Our tickets for Saturday are in the first section in left field in fair territory, twenty-something rows back.

I need a new NBA team to follow.

I've always been a fan of whatever team KG played for, but.....I've never really liked the Nets at all. So I'm going to be looking for a new team now rather than become a Brooklyn fan.

Looking for a middle-of-the-road, perennially underachieving team? Look no further: you should be a Jazz fan!

Maybe the Pacers, considering you're a Midwesterner?

Meh on the Jazz, no offense.

I've compiled a list of potential teams:

Milwaukee - My best friend's team. I'm saying no on principle.
Chicago - Don't like Noah, don't like Boozer, Rose is alright.
Miami - Hahahahaha no.
Cleveland - A good option. Always kind of followed them anyway.
Golden State - BIG fan of Curry, though becoming a fan now would feel like bandwagon jumping.
Houston Rockets - See: Golden State. Also a fan of Harden.
Lakers - Going from a Celtics fan to a Lakers fan? Heresy.
Indiana - A decent option.
Clippers - Also could be seen as bandwagon jumping. Also would have to go from rooting for Boston to a LA team.
76ers - I was once a Sixers fan, but that was due to Iverson being my favorite player alongside KG.

So we'll narrow it down to: Cleveland, Golden State, Houston, 76ers, Clippers.

I can also pick two teams to follow. Though I would prefer them to be in different conferences but that's not a requirement.

Only thing with Houston is I can't stand Howard and if they sign him I don't want to cheer for him.

I'm leaning towards Golden State and Cleveland.
