Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

Remember that post I made about GameStop two days ago? Well I just beat one of the games I bought: Arkham Asylum. Great game, definitely deserving of the praise it received. It was cinematic but fun, the puzzles were challenging without being needlessly difficult, the action, while simple, was a ton of fun, and the voice acting was phenomenal.

Sadly, for as good as Arkham Asylum was, Dead Island Riptide sucked. It looked like it was created for the PS2, not XBox 360 or PS3, and the whole game is pretty much a series of fetch quests. I gave up within a couple hours and I'm returning it. Actually, I'm returning both of the games and buying something new. I'm thinking Spec. Ops: The Line, but I might try something different altogether.

I always loved the Scarecrow stages so much; I know it was simple platforming, avoid the light and such, but that game is very well done.

And Harley... Harley....

Have you played Arkham City?

For the best; it sucks absolute ass

An excellent choice.

This doesn't stop me from being pissed at Microsoft for that X Box 1 reveal. I mean, seriously, the hell, guys?

Spec Ops: The Line is AWESOME. You won't regret it. I'm pretty sure I already talked about it in here sometime in the past.

That we did. It was previously mentioned and I said that it was good but totally fucked up.

Gamestop says it's 27.99. It's worth it.

I hate working weekends. Sunday's don't bother me but Friday's and Saturday's do. Usually I'm off Saturday's, so working Friday isn't a big deal. However the next two weeks I'm on for the weekend. Kills my social life (the little one that I do in fact have).

As long as I can make it to Monday. I work in the morning and it is a holiday, so the double pay will be excellent and I may have a date. That piece is still up in the air as we work attempt to fit it into our schedules as we both work stupid hours and our days off never sync. Though I'm not expecting anything too much to happen on said date as we're both friends so it is a recipe for failure, but who knows. Also I think one of my bank tellers may want a piece of me, so that option may be there. She was pretty upset that I came in Thursday not wearing my pink scrubs as it brightens her day seeing me in them. Two options, lets play the field.

I thought the final fight with Scarecrow was brilliant.

At first I was kind of mad at the game for tricking me into thinking the game glitched, but then I realized it was sort of like Scarecrow was preying on the fears of not just Batman, but also the player controlling Batman. After all, isn't your game glitching out a fear all gamers share?

It was also possibly the best voice acted game I've ever played, maybe with the exception of Mass Effect 2, but that might just be because I'm the biggest Mass Effect mark on the forum.

Come at me Ming!

Have you played Arkham City?

Not yet, but that's the second game, right? I figure I'll take a break from Batman since I just powered through Arkham Asylum and try my hand at a new game.

It's a shame, the first one had its fair share of problems, but it was still a fun game. Modding weapons to hack and slash zombies in all sorts of creative ways was a blast. That said, when you finally got done with the game it was more of a feeling of relief than of accomplishment. You can only do the same thing over and over again for so long before it became repetitive.

And I think that's why Riptide was such a failure. My fuse for endless repetition was burnt out, and Riptide plops your right back into the same old. Nothing changed except the name of the island, how you acquire quests, and they (thankfully) made guns a little more useful. Other than that, it was the exact same game, and I was already bored of it.

An excellent choice.

Glad to hear someone besides Harthan recommends it.

I'm really not sure what everyone is mad about, but I also probably won't buy it for another 2-4 years until the price drops.

Indeed, it is your recommendation that has spurred me to consider buying it. I probably will buy it, but not before browsing the racks for other games that I may want to play but have overlooked.

Games wise, I am still entrenched in Pokemon Black, Fifa 13 and the occasional outing on SMACX.

On Pokemon Black, I have just collected my fourth badge after a battle that I probably found more difficult than I really should have. Elesa's combination of Volt Switch, Hyper Potions and Emolgas was a real pain in the arse as I have no Ground types. Currently using Pignite, Herdier, Sawk, Blitzle and Woobat. My 6th is less set but is currently occupied by Yamask, although if I could get a decent Water type, I would change him out.

With Fifa 13, Pedro Barbosa is just about to start his fourth season at Willem II, having been top scorer in Holland three years in a row and Player of the Year twice. Had determined to leave at the end of the season after an indifferent start but all of a sudden the team hit their stride and went on a run in the second half of the season that saw them jump from 12th to 2nd and Champions League qualification, so I turned down Barcelona (again), Arsenal and Ajax to have a crack at the top competition.

My recent games of SMACX have been rather strange as the last 3 random maps I have gotten have been made up of quite small islands, which makes it far harder to build an empire of any real power at any real speed. There was one of those games where I was stuck on a very, very , very small island from the start and therefore fell way behind every other faction in very rapid order. It was only through essentially surrendering to every demand anyone had of me that I survived any time at all.

I made quite a hall at Gamestop today. I returned Arkham Asylum and Riptide and bought Spec. Ops, Rage, and Arkham City (figured I might as well buy it now and play it after I finish up Spec. Ops and Rage (in that order). I'm already liking Spec. Ops and I literally just started it up. The loading screen has the upside down flag and Jimi's Star Spangled Banner is playing as we look over a collapsing Dubai. Awesome!

And now I'm playing the opening sequence and that's pretty awesome too! I am excited!

In one of my recent games I was on an island that was maybe about 18 tiles large and there were no barbarian settlements to give me a boost of gold. That game was a bust...

Emolga suck because they are electric/flying. The only weakness they'd have that I can think of is rock, but luckily, they are pretty weak. I'm surprised to see you using Woobat when there are a few better psychic types. If you want a psychic/flying combo, Sigilyph is the way to go.

In games like that, you need to discover the technology to allow sea travel as soon as possible and hope that there is a bigger island/continent nearby. I remember playing one game of Civ II that had one of my fellow factions stuck on an island that was one tile...

On my current game, my home island was big enough to build seven cities on it but after that, island and sea colonisation was my only option. Hasn't worked all that badly though as my faction has growth bonuses and all the islands are actually in a region of Planet that has no other occupants but each island and its surrounding seas are heavily seeded with minerals and energy sources. So while I am not the most powerful state militarily, scientifically, diplomatically or even in population terms, I am rather well placed overall to take on anyone that decides to take a swing at me.

Yeah, I think it was my Herdier, who has Rock Tomb, that dealt with the two Emolgas. Pignite and his Rollout dealt with Zebstrika.

For a while, Woobat was at the top of my squad with his combination of Psychic, Dark and Flying moves but once I started to face more powerful trainers and wild Pokemon, his weakness have started to outdo his usefulness. He is easily the weakest of my top five at the moment, and is likely to stay there and probably drop off.

I think my Pignite, Herdier and Sawk are all at Lv 29, while Blitzle is at about Lv 25 and Woobat is at about Lv 22. Could do with my Blitzle evolving as he is starting to show serious symptoms of being under powered against everything other than Flying types, even though he has a rather decent selection of moves.

I have the next 4 days off due to Memorial Day, I plan on trying to get through as much of Mass Effect as I can, I'm hoping I can finish by June 14th when Last Of Us comes out.

I have Spec Ops: The Line sitting on my PS3 (got it when it was a freebie through PS+), I'll play it eventually.

Have you beaten ME1 yet? ME2 is the best one, but all three are great games.

I'm really enjoying Spec. Ops, but I can see what Stormtrooper meant when he said it is fucked up. It is. It's really fucked up. But I guess war is fucked up, and I reckon that's the point it wants to make.

I haven't felt this many feels from a video game since Mass Effect 3.

I just started it last Sunday, & will be picking up were I left up from there. I rarely play games during the week because if they're good like Mass Effect is, I tend to get sucked in & don't go to bed when I should & it throws off my whole schedule & fucks everything up, but as I said I have the next 4 days off so I should be able to get a good chunk of the game done.

Gotcha. It's a pretty expansive game, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could beat it if you just do the storyline stuff. If you decide to do some exploring, though, it might take you longer.

I plan on just sticking to the story stuff for the most part. In games like these if I go off & start exploring I tend of losing track of where I was in the story & eventually lose interest in the game.

Just beat Spec. Ops: The Line. GREAT game, incredible ending, and all around enjoyable experience. I think I'm actually going to keep that one instead of returning it because it was just that damn good and I'd like to play it again and make different choices. It also might be the first game I've ever played that doesn't glorify war, or even killing in general. There is nothing glorious about Spec. Ops, and that's one of the things that makes it so great.

You beat it in a day? how long is this game?!
