Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

So I had a rather interesting situation during my Civ V game (since y'all are talking about Sid Meier games).

I had to take out the Babylonians because fuck those sneering motherfuckers. They decided to mock me while I had my far superior army right on their doorstep. I took them out, let him offer up 2 of three remaining cities as a peace offering, waited ten turns and ended them. However, due to the amount of cities I took on, I had a high unhappiness level which brought production to a crawl.

In the meantime, China kept calling me blood thirsty and then turned around to declare war on me. Unfortunately for China, I am well fortified by mountains around my empire, and so I just funneled her troops in and took them out one at a time. I also had a pact of secrecy with Germany, who wanted to take China out badly. As soon as China turned it's attention to me, Germany went on a warpath, destroying all in it's path on its way to China. China desperately tried to get me to agree to a peace treaty wanting me to give up over half my empire after taking out a couple of my units. I declined, swatted away whatever was left of their units and refortified.

China won't accept any peace treaty now, and Germany is right on their door step. I'm curious if I should join in on the slaughter or if I hold back and remain fortified. Germany's going to have the same issues with production as I did with their conquest, however if I leave China to Germany, that means I have a large empire next to mine and it'll be inevitable that we'll clash later down the road. I'm leaning towards fortifying, with my advantage with the mountains surrounding me, I can keep Germany at bay and continue upping my technological advantage.

A good WWE documentary? I don't believe it.

It's an hour of your time. Watch it. It's not Ken Burns, but it's pretty good.

The Punk one is okay. His story is interesting, but the little bits about his road life and veganism are irritating. That and he is a total douche.

I disagree a bit. I liked that they showed those sorts of things. They rounded out the experience and made it about Punk the guy rather than just Punk the wrestler. I get the impression that he can act kind of douchey but it's only because he really doesn't give a shit what you think about him. I don't doubt that he's nice when he feels good and probably kind of a dick if he feels shitty.

Punk "the guy" is an uninteresting douche. People who live by they "I don't care what anyone thinks of me" mantra tend to be as such. I know he's a great performer, but I can spot an annoying *** when I see one.

Sounds like fortifying is the way to go. This way you can work on getting your happiness up and getting production back on track and by the time the Germans have taken care of China they'll probably need several turns to recoup the losses they incurred themselves before moving onto you. Hopefully by then, you'll be ready.

Since when did not caring about what people think of you and being decent to people become mutually exclusive? All the folks I know that doesn't seem to care what people think about them are pretty terrific people.

I think Punk's deal is that he does care about what people think about him. You kind of have to when you're a professional wrestler.

I must have just forgotten to respond. I meant to say that I figured that you were there. My buddy and I were debating which crowd was better, the UK crowd last night or the NJ crowd that night after Mania. I said you guys were.

I would agree last night's crowd was better. They enhanced everything in the show with their reactions, whereas the NJ crowd did more of a hijacking of the show, which, in their defense, wasn't that great of a show.

Naturally I'm bias, but I agree with this. We all had a good time and weren't trying hard to be the star of the show. The same for the SmackDown tapings last night. I'm just majorly pleased I got to cross a good chunk my wrestling bucket list off in one night.

Also, I was sat near a girl who was dressed like Ricardo Rodriguez. What's more bizarre is even though she looked quite like him, she wasn't bad looking...

The the Peacekeepers are making war? How delightfully ironic.

I think that one of the accusations that gets levied at the Peacekeepers leader is that he has an almost psychotic need to uphold the tenets of the UN, even if it means war.

How long would it take you to split off some of your aircraft and bring them to defend your weak spots?

Would probably be able to redeploy the jets quite quickly, especially as all the Peacekeepers have been doing so far is attacking my terraformers (which I have always thought should be considered a reprehensible act - you are attacking civilians after all).

Need to shore up the defences and the transport links of the scant few cities on my southern coast as well. Hopefully, the inevitable military victory over the Pirates will give me enough energy to force build a lot of that.

I just won another game

Either you are playing way more than I am or Civ Rev is a lot shorter a game than SMACX.

I am still on the first game I started several days ago.

Ah well, put on some movies, whistle while you work, yada yada yada, it'll go by faster than you know.

Hence the suggestion of vast amounts of tea.

May I propose an alternative or three? How many nations are left? If it's just the three of you (or it's just the three of you that have your original capitals), you could wait for Germany to conquer Beijing before executing a backstab to take Berlin and win via Domination while most of Germany's armies are elsewhere.

The second option's to conquer a few cities. Enough to give you a buffer between Germany and your core but not wreck you via the happiness mechanic.

The easiest solution though is to just turtle up and win via space race.

It is. Civ Rev's designed for consoles, which means that a lot's been simplified and streamlined compared to the main series.

So whats going on? I'm kind of lost on Wz without the fed to post in 24/7... That's no joke either, it really depressed me to have to leave. Writing for this fed has been my main hobbie for years now. Good or bad, i'm not sure what all to do anymore since they killed the music section. I wont go fishing for music topics in that shit hole...

I'm still trying to decide whether or not each leader has a personality in the version of the game I have, or if it's all run by the same AI personality. Gandhi does seem to have a knack for being a dick, though...

If nothing else, Civilization has taught me the importance of a well-established infrastructure.

Like Remix said, it's a console version so it's made to go a lot quicker. The maps are relatively small and there's not much in the way of micromanagement unless you're OCD about what's going on in your cities each turn.

Though I have been playing it quite a bit, two games a day or so. But I think I may have reached the point where I'm not going to be quite as obsessed now that I found a difficulty level that I'm comfortable with and I've achieved all four types of victory on it. I still find that once you make it into the Industrial Era it's pretty much smooth sailing, though.

What's going on in WrestleZone? Some folks are letting the WZT get the better of their emotions, so that's always fun. Other than that... people just be hanging out and what not.

If you ever feel like going for a more in depth Civ experience, go for Civ 4 Beyond the Sword, rather than Civ 5. I find the latter's more polished and ultimately a better game. Civ 5 did a lot of things right, and definitely had to go in a different direction than Civ 4 (because trying to build on that game's more likely to make the end result Civ 4.5, rather than Civ 5) but I find the older game to be a lot stronger.

There is about 9 Civilizations left. The weird thing is Germany broke Russia badly, capturing Moscow in the process but didn't finish the job before agreeing to a peace treaty. I would say the backstab idea is fine, but Berlin is quite a distance from my Civilization. I'm only in the late 1500's right now, there's a lot of time left. Best case scenario would be China putting up a hell of a fight with Germany and exhausting both of them. The other 6 Civilzations aren't much to write home about at the moment.

The second option's to conquer a few cities. Enough to give you a buffer between Germany and your core but not wreck you via the happiness mechanic.

I have Ragusa between China and myself currently. It acts as a nice buffer already and I've worked on my ties with it so to ensure China doesn't turn them towards me.

The easiest solution though is to just turtle up and win via space race.

The space race is always the easy way out, my main concern is getting production back on track so it doesn't take me 30 turns to create a damn settler in my capital city.

When you fellas play Civilization, do you usually go in with a strategy and type of win in mind, or do you let the game develop and see what type of victory seems most plausible later in the game?

The default answer's play the map. If you're sat next to Shaka, get ready for an early war even if you were planning on playing peacefully. If you're Isolated and planning to win militarily, get ready to revise your plans.

So I just got back from an interview with the lady that is headhunting me. I was fantastic, but the opportunities she has for me are kind of weak. There were a few jobs with some interesting companies, though, so maybe if I start there I can get promoted from within.

That part was boring. The reason I'm telling you about it is because I walked there, and for the first time since the Marathon Bombings, Boyolston Street was open to the public. I walked down Boyolston, and I walked right where the bombings happened. I'm not one to get emotional about those types of things, but it was pretty wild to see what happened. There was a huge crowd surrounding the area, and for some strange reason they circled around the area on the sidewalk where most of the carnage happened, as if it was a bad omen to set foot on it. The building right behind the blast was closed, obviously. The window was completely blown out, and instead they have a wooden board up there with a poster supporting Boston (Oddly enough, the store is called Marathon Sports and they sell running shoes. I've bought my last two pairs of running shoes there).

I imagine this is sort of what it was like to live near the towers after the chaos of 9/11 settled down. Some people were there to pay respects, others to just say they saw the place that this historic, though horrific, event occurred. But I think most people that were there were like me, just wanting to see what this part of their city looked like after such a tragic event. I doubt I'll ever be able to walk down Boyolston Street without thinking about the Marathon Bombings.

Fair enough. I guess the maps on Civilization Revolution on XBox aren't that varied. Every once in a blue moon somebody is completely isolated, and even then it's only like, 2-3 turns to get your people over to their island.

I really like playing with Shaka Zulu, having the extra space movement for troops early in the game is clutch for exploring.

Oh, we're talking about Civ? I play Civ. I haven't played in some time, but I usually find myself going for space victories. Aggressive early expansion, make a ton of money, fund a lot of research, go to space.

Maybe I'll start up a game and post my updates to keep up with you guys.

In the continuing "Harthan catches up on pop culture on Netflix", Aziz Ansari is hilariously good in his stand up routines. I thought he improved dramatically from his first special to his second though. He was pretty good in the first, but then dynamite in the second. I've always liked him in Parks and Recreation, though, so I expected a lot from him. He didn't disappoint.

Aziz Ansari might be my favorite standup right now that's not named Louis C.K. His standup persona and his Parks and Rec character are so similar that I'm willing to guess that Aziz Ansari is pretty much exactly the guy he presents himself as. Either way, he's hilarious.

I'm watching a Louis CK special right now. I've seen the first two seasons of Louie and love it, and I've seen other standup from him before. But this special is pretty much reaffirming he's just the best at what he does right now.

Oh, there is absolutely zero question that Louis CK is the king of standup comedy at this time. And what's really amazing is that he's a comic's comic in that he's paid his dues, done everything his own way, and generally plays smaller venues rather than arena shows. I read an interview with him in the Times (I think), and it was pretty amazing what he did with this last standup. He basically gave HBO his demands and if they told him no on anything he said, "Well then I'll just do this one like my last one without HBO. Thanks anyway," and eventually they caved and gave him everything. His demands weren't ludicrous or anything, just not standard for HBO, but he got them all.

Here is Punk and Lita at the Ironman 3 premier. I don't recall ever seeing him in a suit before.

Usually he only wears one for the Hall of Fame and he has that fabulous sports jacket for commentary, but otherwise yeah he's usually a shirt and jeans/shorts kinda guy it would seem. Guess we can all clarify he and Lita are together again now...

I will never be able to forgive the man for losing Maria. If you have a woman like that, for god's sake man, don't let go!

In half an hour I am to take a final exam, and it will be my final final exam ever. To say I am prepared would be an overstatement. To say that I am ready would be an understatement. I did very little studying for the test, but I am extraordinarily ready to be done with it.
