Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

Funny, I had a 98 Malibu for about 5 years. I got a 04 Impala LS now.

Good car. My parents bought it new off the showroom floor, gave it to me as an 18th birthday present. Roughly 15 years old, 180k miles, and aside from replacing the alternator it never had a problem....except patches of ice on overpasses.

Heh well you can't do shit about ice. I broke the steering knuckle on my 98 when I was driving down a hill on sheer black ice. Some guy turned in front of me and I slammed on the breaks, slid and hit the curb and cracked the ever living shit out of it.

Thankfully it was an easy fix. My dad's a Service Manager for a GM dealership and one hell of a mechanic. So that comes in handy.

Truthfully I don't know much about cars, but Chevy is doing a few good things. If/when I need to acquire a vehicle, though, I'm planning on buying a hybrid, if not a full blown electric car.

I forgot you are one of those East Coast elitist types who treat simple Midwestern folk like Ty and myself as simple hillbillies out here in our flyover states.

Don't ya know Yaz, us Midwestern folk don't know what it be like to be on one of dem der puters. Shucks, we're lucky to have running water round these parts. I'm hopin to make it out yonder your way but ma and pa gotta grow enough corn to buy another horse for the buggy.

I'm sure one day you poor middle Americans will get the privilege to drive a hybrid car. Of course, by that time we'll have flying cars that run on garbage on the coasts.

Maybe by the time they get them hybrids will actually do less damage to the environment per car than petrol cars, unlike now

That's not the appeal for me. Saving money on gas is what I'm interested in.

Except you probably spend closer to $5-7k more on a hybrid then you do a normal car. Realistically you'd probably save $600 a year on gas, meaning that if a hybrid costs $7000 more, it'd take around 12 years before you legitimately start saving money.

They are starting to get closer in price. A 2013 Prius starts at $24,200.

Avg. cost for battery on a hybrid- $3,000

Avg. cost for the battery on a normal car- $90

Just thrown' that out there

Everyone thinks they've figured it out, but most studies show that hybrids pay back pretty quickly.

Chart is at the bottom. Most hybrids wind up saving you money after 5 years.

Of course, I'd want a midsized car and the ones that actually do save you money in that category can get a bit pricy, but I can either just shift to a smaller car, or if I'm working in NYC or Boston just use public transit until I can afford it.

A few short hours before I have to get up, get kilted up and watch another of my best friends give his life away in marriage...

And I am in a drunken state

I'm pretty sure you're legally required to be drunk if you're planning on wearing a kilt.

There was chat of staying in the bar all night and then walking/staggering to the house of the groom in the morning, have a massive breakfast, get kilted up and then go straight back on the drink again.

This is the Emerald Isle after all, so I am not sure wh that idea was rejected...

I'm watching that new show Jericho hosts, Robot Combat League. It isn't bad but it features all these experts talking how the robots work, all these combat experts talking about fighting styles and all these weird challenges. That isn't bad but they need to feature more human controlled robots fighting it out.
