ONE NIGHT STAND REVIEW

By the way, I'm writing most of these reviews during Orton and HHH's entrances, as they (especially HHH's) take freaking FOREVER.

Falls Count Anywhere: Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga
--Decent match to start off, though it was a little short (or at least it felt like it). I liked Hardy's rail slide...but I didn't like the finish. They set up the camera in such away that it was so obvious that they were blocking a giant set of padding. If they'd have thought of a better way to film that, I'd like it better. Still, some nice action, like using the fire extinguisher. Could've been better, could've been much worse.

Singapore Cane: Big Show vs. CM Punk vs. John Morrison vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Tommy Dreamer
--Damn, Big Show is over as all hell, isn't he? I was expecting Punk to have a 49% chance at winning this match, but Show dominated. Morrison seems to have gotten the worst out of the canes lol. Fun match...but now I'm curious what they're going to do with Kane/Big Show if Show is so much more over than Kane is right now.

First Blood: John Cena vs. JBL
--Well...I found this a little boring. Not enough for me to stop watching, but it definitely wasn't match of the night. What was the point in the finish of having Cena win? They could've used this as an opportunity to give JBL some heat by cheating as well as making Cena look good in the end by not REALLY losing, though technically being the loser of the match. JBL also didn't sell the STFU/blood capsule moment well at all. Cena barely locks in the hold and JBL's already spewing blood like a gunshot wound? Lol.

I Quit: Melina vs. Beth Phoenix
--Very good match. If the Divas had matches like this all the time, I wouldn't mind seeing them thrice a week. That was a sweet move by Melina when she did a reversal to twist Beth into the ropes. Both women came out looking pretty strong in the end, but Beth kept her dominance to a degree, so that's pretty much perfect as far as I'm concerned. However, I'm a little disappointed that no weapons were used :( Still, very good match.

Stretcher: HBK vs. Batista
--Decent. Nothing special. My favorite part of the match was simply how Jericho came out to be Mick to HBK's Rocky. I still think they need Batista to turn heel...so I'm annoyed that they didn't do it right then when they could've EASILY done it. Just do the overkill "the match is over, stop hurting Michaels" method.

Last Man Standing: HHH vs. Randy Orton
--Ok, so this is currently going on right now while I'm writing this. Orton just did his DDT. 9 seconds from now, Triple H will get up. 1..2..3...4......5....6....7...8...9.....told you. Orton's got the steps. Good lord, those steps have had so much screen time this ppv, lol. Every match has involved the steps. When Orton got the chord out, I thought we'd see some intelligence, with him wrapping it around HHH to keep him from getting up (but that's just stupid, right, like bringing a knife to a first blood match? Lol). The match was what I expected it to be. Triple H seems to have fallen into the category of "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". He does the same moves in the same order, just as Orton does. The fact that these guys never try anything different just irks me.

TLC: Undertaker vs. Edge
--Taker got his ASS handed to him in this match lol. Awesome match. Last Ride through the two tables? SICK chokeslams on Hawkins & Ryder. Taker's fall from the highest ladder onto the three tables? Christ, its amazing that these wrestlers can walk after matches like this. Very surprised that they had Edge win the match. Nice curveball, WWE. Hopefully, the way that they bring Taker back isn't lacking in creativity. Both men came out looking very strong in this match. Great job.

Overall, I was more impressed by this ppv than I thought I was going to be. Match of the night DEFINITELY goes to Taker/Edge.

ONE NIGHT STAND REVIEW:

Falls Count Anywhere: Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga
Winner: Jeff Hardy
Match Rating: ***
--This was a good opening match. It was very entertaining to see the two wrestlers keep moving further and further away from the ring, though at times it seemed as though they were merely attempting to go far at the expense of more wrestling. Yet, this match had its fair share of great moves, such as Jeff Hardy’s sliding-down-the-stairs knockdown of Umaga. The match ended, as expected, with Jeff Hardy jumping off a very tall structure in the parking lot. What was annoying, however, was that we could not see Hardy landing. They didn’t refocus the camera on Hardy on Umaga until after the three-count, so we didn’t get to see the ending of the match. Still, a good match.

Singapore Cane: Big Show vs. CM Punk vs. John Morrison vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Tommy Dreamer
Winner: Big Show
Match Rating: ***
--This was a very entertaining match. Big Show was the victim of ganging-up by the other four, which gave a good sense of realism to the match. He won by pinning Dreamer after blasting him with a cane, which was very appropriate. During the match, Big Show got busted, and left the ring with a bloody face, which was a nice image to see for a man who plans to dominate the ECW brand. I am looking forward to Kane vs. Big Show.

First Blood: John Cena vs. JBL
Winner: John Cena
Match Rating: **1/2
--John Cena pulled out another surprise victory in this match. The method of JBL’s bleeding was odd, as he bled from the mouth from being submitted. Still, I prefer this to a cheapshot by either competitor. The match was slightly too long, but I am glad that it didn’t turn out the way I projected.

I Quit: Beth Phoenix vs. Melina
Winner: Beth Phoenix
Match Rating: ***1/2
--Finally, a good Divas match. I was very impressed by both competitors – Phoenix with her strength and agility and Melina for her Mysterio-esque moves. Beth Phoenix realistically won, though I would’ve liked to hear the “I Quit” shouted a little bit louder.

Stretcher: Shawn Michaels vs. Batista
Winner: Batista
Match Rating: ****
--This was the match of the night, in my opinion. A great match with two amazing performers. Michaels performed in his usual greatness, though Batista was truly on his game tonight, and not just with the wrestling. The line of the night was from Batista. “Just so you know, I don’t love you, and I’m not sorry,” just before a final Batista bomb. This was a superb match that could only have been improved without the appearance of Chris Jericho. Still, very impressive. I’d like to see Batista back in the main event after this.

WWE/Last Man Standing: Triple H vs. Randy Orton
Winner: Triple H
Match Rating: **
--Before I begin, I will say this: Randy Orton was legitimately injured in this match. Though I do not love his character, he is a great performer, and I wish him the best in his recovery. I was disgusted by the fact that the audience was actually booing Orton as he was walking backstage, and was pleased to see Orton have his words for the audience members. That being said, this match was as slow-moving as expected. If it had not been for the reason outlined above, I would have been very pleased to see the match end early. Hopefully we won’t have to see Triple H vs. Orton again for a long time, though hopefully not because Orton is unable to compete.

WHC/Tables, Ladders, and Chairs: Undertaker vs. Edge
Winner: Edge
Match Rating: **1/2
--I, for one, do not believe that this was Undertaker’s last match. I would be very disappointed if Undertaker had to end on this match. Though both wrestlers performed adequately, the type of match mandated that the wrestlers acted in such a way that was nonsensical in order to lay the groundwork for future moves. This was slightly annoying. Also, the interference by La Familia was excellent for garnering heat, but was to the point where there was legitimate hatred from the crowd, and I could see why. Not only does this paint Edge as a weak champion, it also gets repetitive. Congratulations to Edge on his championship, but I hope that Undertaker gets his revenge upon his return.

Overall Thoughts
PPV Rating: ***
--I was very excited for an extreme-rules pay-per-view, and to a large extent, I was very pleased. The three matches that made my night were the first two and the Stretcher match. The “I Quit” match was also very good, while the championship matches lacked, as well as the First Blood match. The promos were fairly good, though I continue to despise the buildup for McMahon’s “Million Dollar Mania.” I wish Kane made more of an appearance, particularly to save his Brother of Destruction. Still, a decent PPV. I’m glad I watched.

I attended the show and just got home a little while ago. Here's my thoughts:

They must've been running late, because they let us in 45 minutes after they said they would, and there wasn't a dark match. I had a really good seat.

Lillian was hot. Pyro was LOUD.

Crowd liked Jeff Hardy, but was pretty disappointed the match left the arena so quickly. It was almost like we were at home, watching the majority of it on the screen. Nice spot at the end off the truck, but come on, we were supposed to believe he did it on the concrete?

Everyone was really into the Singapore Cane match, too, especially the spot with Chavo and Shawne Merriman. No one thought for a second that anyone other than Big Show would win. Miz came out to interfere, and with him wearing a long sleeved white shirt and a dark t-shirt on top of it, I coulda swore the Spirit Squad had returned.

Cena was really over, there were a lot of kids in the audience. Surprisingly a lot of adults cheering for him, too. He had some heat, but not as much as you'd expect. The whip tease was great and a little disappointing when nothing came of it. The finish, especially from my point of view, looked just like a submission, since we couldn't see the chain or the mouth blood.

The women's match bored everyone to tears and sucked the energy away. Beth's submission hold looked good, though.

No one could figure out what Jericho was doing in the Shawn/Batista match. I had to read the review of the show on Wrestlezone to find out what was going on. Apparently he was trying ot will Shawn off the stretcher, but it looked weird live, especially with Batista just standing there doing nothing. Crowd was fairly mixed, with more HBK supporters than Batista.

Orton and Triple H was shorter than expected, but that's because of Orton's injury. I was on the other side of the ring so I didn't see him land, but even from where we were we could tell something wasn't right. There was quite a smack when he hit the ground. Orton got a lot of heat, but recieved a nice pop as he was getting up after the injury. Kudos to him staying in character when he was obviously hurt and getting the crowd to boo him again.

Edge and Undertaker was a really good match too, and as I expected, worth the price of admission. At first you could tell Undertaker's lack of experience, since he didn't seem to take any bump full on, and some ladder shots clearly missed. Edge getting hit in the back with a chair was one of the LOUDEST chair shots I've heard, it was great. Undertaker made up for his timid bumps early in the match with the huge one to the outside.

I don't know when the PPV feed cut, but all that happened afterwards was Edge celebrating with Vickie and his stablemates, and Undertaker slowly getting up to a smaller pop than I expected, considering storyline-wise he's out of the WWE. I don't think anyone in the arena thought that was his last match ever, though. If he's going out, he'll get either a big deadman style angle, or a Ric Flair style tribute. This was neither.

Definitely a good show, had a blast.

My review is really short since I had to study while watching ONS >.>

Falls Count Anywhere: Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga
- The stipulation kinda gave away the ending. Nonetheless, another great bout between these two. I liked the ending but it was quite obvious that they were hiding layers of padding.

Singapore Cane: Big Show vs. CM Punk vs. John Morrison vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Tommy Dreamer
- I didn't really care about this match, though I actually predicted CM Punk would win in hopes of a decent push for him. I have to wonder if WWE even intends on letting CM Punk actually cash in the MitB. Big Show was awesome here and he got some rather loud pops. I can't wait for the Big Show/Kane feud.

First Blood: John Cena vs. JBL
- I found this match boring, though I expected JBL to win. The non cliche first blood ending was good to see.

I Quit: Melina vs. Beth Phoenix
- Amazing divas match. I was a little disappointed that no weapons were brought in. Nonetheless this match gives hope for WWE's crumbling women's division.

Stretcher: HBK vs. Batista
- Thank god we finally got a decisive ending to a stretcher match instead of the typical quick finish.

Last Man Standing: HHH vs. Randy Orton
- Nothing too special, though I heard that Orton suffered a legit injury here.

TLC: Undertaker vs. Edge
- Totally defied my expectations and predictions. Awesome job here, easily the match of the night. I hope Orton/HHH are taking notes on how to make a repetitive feud interesting. Just as Edge/Taker was getting dull, this match instantly made the feud interesting again. Great curveball by WWE and props to Undertaker for taking that huge bump at the end. Edge + all the interference was perfect for his character. I'm glad to see Edge on top again just as it appeared he would be buried.

It's obvious that wasn't Taker's last match. I just hope they don't do the typical "resurrection" angle to bring him back. It's really getting overused.

One NIght Muthafuckin Stand

Was a night of letdowns, and suprises for your truly. A fine show IMO though.

Hardy Vs YouMahga

Wow. Was this ever a pile of shit. Terrible. Laborious. HUGE letdown for me personally. God this match sucked so bad. Such a huge waste of both guys. Hardy barely bumped, and the finish was SO absurdly fake. Ugh. Jeff's slidy down the rails was the only half decent thing in this. Shit. 5/10

Dreamer Vs Morrison Vs Guerrero Vs CM Punk Vs Big Show

Hell fuckin yes. This shit rocked. This was the first stand out suprise of the night. This was basically booked perfectly, with some great cane usuage (they certainley werent bashfull about it LOL) and the stair fall Show took looked damn good. Awesome, entertaining match. 8.5/10

Cena Vs JBL

Eh. this was pretty boring, and shit to be honest. And fairly silly booking. Not sure why they wouldnt solidify JBL with a cheap win here, but Oh well. gave me flashbacks to the good ol days, with Cena holding up the chain. Both I, and the crowd, marked out for that. It was fine I guess, not too entertaining though. 7/10

Melina Vs Beth

The best womens match we have seen since WM 22. Maybe better. This shit was better than the first blood and the falls count anywere. This went fucking HARD. You know, for as talented as Beth is, she seems to botch at least three moves per match. Strange to me. Fine submission wrestling, awesome selling and widdle girl offense from Melina, fine phsycology by both throughout. Loved, loved, LOVED this match. The move Beth used on her at the end was fucking sick. 9/10

Batista Vs HBK

Another one that far exceeded my expectations. Except for the repeated Jericho interferences. Honestly, that was some of the dumbest shit ive ever seen in wrestling. Why the fuck would Batista just level his ass?? Makes me think we will see a new angle in which Jericho was purposely stalling, and Batista knew it, so that Batista could further destroy HBK. Makes sense if you think of the Jericho hating jealousy angle that has been played up recently. Anyways, I thought this was VERY good and entertaining. Slowed down to a snail crawl in many places, but still good. Developed an epic feel to it, even if it wasnt... 8/10

Triple H Vs Orton

Well. This was ball sack. The second huge disappointment of the night. Obviously more wouldve been done had it not been for the accident with Orton, but up until that point even, it was shit, and boring. My friend and I both knew Orton most likely got fucked up when he took that fall. That fuckin sucks LOL. so we end up with an extremely weak Last Man Standing match. 4/10

Edge Vs Taker

Here it comes....waaaait for iiit....waaaaiiit for iiiittt...

I FUCKING TOLD ALLLLL OF YOU!!! DAMMIT MOTHERFUUUCKER I TOOOLD YOOOUUUU!!!!!

Gosh DAMN if I didnt get utterly sick of seeing people saying mark ass thing like "well pft, stupid WWE, they just totally gave it away, they give it away, becuase these retirement thingys are REAL...I mean did you SEE what happened to Flair?? They gave it away, I mean with the stip its totally given away..."

Yea no shit it was given away. That Edge was gonna win JUST LIKE I FUCKING SAID HE WOULD Hiw often does this retirement shit really mean something?? Ever??? Fucking HELLO!!! NEVER. Especially with somone like the damn UNDERTAKER!!! What will everyone act shocked now when he starts showing up doing spooky shit?? Are you all gonna say "WAIT THATS NOT RIGHT!!! HE IS BANNED!!! ZOMG!!!!"....fucking seriously.....

This match fucking rocked. Not quite as fast paced, nasty, and epic as I thought it would be, but still awesome. Sick bumps, awesome heel tactics, epic bump to end it (which was utterly telegraphed...right when they set those tables up, I turned to my buddy and said "they set those up for the finish bump...but oh well) Lots of really solid chair shots outta Edge, just a great brawl all around. And I must admit, as much as I knew Edge was most likely gonna win, I still marked out when he got up there. It was sick. and I was happy to be so resoundingly correct. And those tables fucking EXPLODED when UT went through them LOL. 9.5/10

And no children, The Undertaker is most likely NOT gone forever. Its called a worked storyline. Promises.

Very good program IMO. Although two of the matches were shit, and could not have even happened, and the show wouldve been well enough off. Totally forgettable. I give the show a 9.0/10 overall.
