Euro 2012

Rooney should come in for Young or Milner.

As someone who has complained for years about Gerrard being played out of position by England, I cannot accept Rooney being deployed on the wing.

Your best players should be played in their best positions.

I know that leaves Hodgson with a tough decision between Welbeck and Carroll, both of whom played really well against Sweden, but that is what he is being paid for.

My gut reaction is to play Welbeck and Rooney up front with Milner and Young on the flanks and use Carroll and Walcott as impact subs should they be needed. However, I do not think it would be too much of a shock for Carroll to start instead.

The thing is, i agree with you about Gerrard and position. Even now, I think he is played too deep. I think you have to fit your best players in. If you play Welbeck and Carroll, then play 433 with Rooney. That would Milner in a narrow midfield role which I think he could do. He and Young were pretty abject so far though but I think we could benefit from winning the midfield battle against Ukraine.

This would be my prediction to the starting lineup

Hart

Johnson Terry Lescott Cole

Walcott Parker Gerrard Young

Rooney

Wellbeck

If he goes 4.5.1 I would be very dissappointed as we were a lot better against Sweden than against the French

Hart

Johnson JT Lescot Cole
Parker

Milner Gerrard OX

Walcott Rooney

If that formation makes any sense that is how I would line-up if i was manager. Enough in both defense and attack.

QF 1 Match 25 - Czech Rep Vs Portugal
QF 2 Match 26 - Germany Vs Greece
QF 3 Match 27 -
QF 4 Match 28 -

You can put them in now or anytime before Thursday. I'll mail anyone who forgets

It's tempting to have Walcott start after his performance the other night, but I think not having him as an impact sub may remove the sheer differential in pace that caused him to be so fresh and effective. As to who I was more impressed with the other night, it was probably Caroll over Welbeck, but I don't know if he'll be as consistent.

I'd also want to keep Milner on the right as that seems to be his best position by far. Keep Gerrard as the central mid as he has the all-round game to cross intothe box of run through when necessary.

That said, I'd perhaps want to play a 4-4-2 with Rooney and Welbeck up front, and Gerard, Milner, Parker and OX/Young supporting. That leaves Caroll to sub for Welbeck and Walcott to replace either winger if necessary, and if he doesn't otherwise start. If not, have ox as the sub.I' not terribly content with the several defence after last night but I don't know what to suggest.

P.S., looking at the charts, betting on Germany pays.

You can kind of see how the semi's are lining up now.

Portugal Vs Spain/England/France
Germany Vs England/France

If England finish 2nd in Group D and end in the top matchup I actually fancy them to reach the final. They can get past Spain and Portugal but I wouldn't bet on them to get past Germany in the bottom half.

What a fucking awful round of matches for my Fantasy Football team. From top to second to fucking 6th.
