Euro 2012 - Day 1

Is this Lewandowski guy any good? I thought I heard them talking about him going to the Premier League or something.

Extremely good. The reason they're saying he's going to the Premier League is because he's nearly signed with Man Utd according the the Poland coach.

Supposedly yes he's pretty useful. Plays for the Germany champions and I think he'd fit very well into England, big strong guy with a decent touch.

Poland are moving so quickly it's like they've got 15 players on the pitch. Greece look to have settled a little defensively.

Greece looking so lackadaisical right now. Almost as if they're just happy to be there and not bothered by the result. Need to pick it up.

Very entertaining first half, Greece have done themselves no favours and have been outpaced and outworked. The ref has kicked them while they're down with a bad red card and it'll be difficult to come back now.

Pretty terrible looking officiating there. Admittedly, my sample size is small, but it seems like every time I watch an international match there's just piss-poor officiating. Is this a pretty common problem?

The standard tends to be worse or more severe at international tournaments, in part due to taking refs from the smaller nations. No excuse here though, this ref is Spanish.

Yeah, a much better game than I was expecting. Poland have energy, and that red card might just fire up Greece for the second half. Whether that'll be good or bad for them I don't know.

That is a harsh referee though. Just read he gave 16 red cards in 19 La Liga matches. That could be incorrect, just what I read.

Spanish refs are always an ugly breed. It's because the majority of Spanish players are like Cristiano Ronaldo, they roll around on the floor as if they have been shot with the slightest touch. The referee feels pressured to protect the players and books the offenders. Spanish football is and always will be the same.

Goooooooooaal!
Salpingidis!

They are now and it's entirely Poland's fault. Poland have let them back in the game and I think Greece have now decided to play for the draw.
