Edge Retires

Wow, I've grown up watching Edge. When he said "y'all have seen me grow into a man" I felt right there with him. I started watching WWE as a young kid and it all started with Sting-Hogan in WCW, but it carried over for me and remember seeing E&C and I liked them both then. I grew up with Edge and am also a man myself, and seeing this saddens me without a doubt.

He gave it his all every single night, and if it is real, then I wish he could have gotten to close the show instead of going before the main event, and wish we could have seen E&C hug in the ring, but I'm sure that will be covered on Smackdown.

I believe it's true because we saw tears in his eyes, the only time I remember seeing tears in his eyes was when he faced Cena in a TLC match, and it was his first time in Canada as WWE Champion and the place was going crazy for him. They showed him hugging faces and heels, something they wouldn't do if it was fake.

Thank you Edge, I grew up watching you, and I will miss you

I hope this is an angle in many ways as I think Edge is one of the greats. He has truly done it all in WWE and if this really is it, then I wish him all the best. I am very sure we'll see him in the HOF either next year, or in 2013. He has been one of the few superstars to work both as a top heel and a top face, both effectively. The matches he's pulled off in solo and in tag team competition have been nothing short of amazing.

It's not true. It is kayfabe. Why would Edge retire when he has a match with Alberto Del Rio at Extreme Rules? He didn't even mention Alberto Del Rio.

This is just suspicious... very suspicious...
He didn't find out probably after the smackdown taping because he said he's only known for like a week which is sad and I kinda teared up and I never tear up when people retire.

I'm so confused

I almost want this to be a work, this is, I don't even know what to say

I've been watching him since SummerSlam 98 when he teamed up with Sable to take on Marc Mero and Jackie

I'm in complete shock

The guy is one of the great talents in the history of WWE. Maybe, arguably obviously, the no. 2 guy in the company and undoubtedly the face of Smackdown. Without question one of the top 20 talents of all time. Few people in the history of wrestling has his range character wise to play any character at any time. HHH and Edge are the only guys that come to mind with that range. Combine that with his obvious in ring ability, and you have a certified legend. Guess we know who next years headline HofF entrant will be.

Although his in-ring ability is not what it once was, those TLC matches to this day continue to stand out as some of the best ever. I only wonder where Smackdown goes from here. One of the big stars on Raw has, HAS to be moving to Smackdown in the draft. They really have very little established main event talent, and frankly I doubt Show and Rey get the main event pushes anymore. Hopefully a negative is turned into a positive and a new star emerges.

Its legit and in away I am glad Edge got checked out because if he continued to take these bumps he would of not been able to have time with his kids in good shape. With that said I think Edge will be inducted into the Hall Next Year because he along with the Rock would be a great double bill. I do think he should return as a replacement for JR or the GM or maybe even a agent because he can help the young guys out alot.

I'm gonna miss Edge! A true entertainer and a joy to watch. I'm glad this was caught so he doesn't do any further damage.

All the best too him.
EDGE HOF 2012!!!

At least he's gonna out while he can still walk and not on a stretcher or anything. Wouldn't it be ironic if the gave him the Raw GM spot, helping w/ character development, or a Legends type deal w/ the others. He was this Gen's Rowdy Roddy Piper. And to the people who thinks this is a work r verging on the lines of stupidity. WWE is like any other company when it comes to the athletes health. I seen him live against Jeff Hardy and he was reeking of awwesomness that night. His in ring performances will be missed but he probably show up every once in a while like HBK w/ the Sweet Chin Music but instead w/ a "SPEAR, SPEAR, SPEAR!"

This is a heavy blow. Edge is one of those superstars who's worth won't be revealed until he leaves. Edge, ironically became vastly underrated as his career went on. Despite injures he been one of the more dependable guys for the company. He was one of the all-time greats in-ring and on the mic, and he's accomplished everything there was in the business. I was really hoping he would stay around for a few more years but, at least he left while on-top...with is a rarity in this business...One less reason to watch the WWE.

i upset about edge leaving like this, though im glad that he retired as the WHC he deserved it, THANK YOU EDGE!!! hopefully edge comes back to guest host raw some time.
so i guess that meens that christain vs alberto del rio for the WHC at extreme rules. christain's time is near.

But look at it this way he has a future with his children without having to carry them in a wheel chair with that said I think he should take some time with his family and then maybe come back as a back stage guy because he can help alot of talent out.

WTF i am stunned. During his promo i was waiting and hoping Del Rio was going to interfere but no one did. When he started to cry thats when it hit me, he's actually going to retire. I don't want to be selfish but i dont want him to go as eveyone eles does'nt want him to go but like Edge said i don't want him to end up in a wheelchair. If his body can't take it anymore then i'm afraid thanks Egde for being a legend, aur reviour.

But part of me feels its a work. Guess where'r going to have to wait to see if he is actually going to retire. If he is what does that mean for Smackdown, who will become the top face of Smackdown but what does it also mean for the WHC ? Can't wait to see what happens with this...

Edge. There is so much that you could say about him. A talented wrestler, a good person, an all around true wrestling hero. I'm shocked by this and honestly I can't believe it happened so abruptly. I remember when I started watching WWE, around 2001. I was six years old. I remember seeing Edge and being fascinated by him. Whenever I went to a WWE show, I would stand on my seat and cheer sooo loud for him and whoever he was facing, no matter who it was, I would say get back on the bus! LOL! When things end, they really hit me hard, I've always been that way. As soon as Edge came out I knew it was over, I saw it in his face and I started to cry, but then once I saw how much everyone in the locker room appreciates him, especially when I saw Natalya crying, I really started to bawl. All there's really left to say is thank you, Edge. I can't believe this is over, it will truly be known as the end of an era. I hope to see you in the HOF soon!! You're an amazing athlete and person, and you will always be remembered. Thanks for the memories, Edge. <3

Its Legit dude everyone on the web is saying he is seriously hurt. With that said I think this gives some guys like Cody Rhodes Kofi Kingston Alberto Del Rio and maybe Gabriel and Slater a chance at the top. I personally cant wait to see Edge do a legit interview on his career because that will be fascinating. And that embrace by Dolph Ziggler and Edge was awesome because it showed Edge was willing to put the young guys over.

Wow. Stunned. Edge is truly someone who has earned the title of Wrestling Legend. His resume is definitely something to admire by any wrestling fan:
(source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Copeland)
World Heavyweight Championship (7 times)
World Tag Team Championship (12 times) – with Christian (7), Chris Benoit (2), Hulk Hogan (1), Randy Orton (1) and Chris Jericho (1)
WWE Championship (4 times)
WWF/E Intercontinental Championship (5 times)
WCW United States Championship (1 time)
WWE Tag Team Championship (2 times) – with Rey Mysterio (1) and Chris Jericho (1)
Fourteenth Triple Crown Champion
King of the Ring (2001)
Mr. Money in the Bank (2005, 2007)
Royal Rumble (2010)

Edge has done it all! He has given it all to this business. He has destroyed himself just to entertain us and make us smile. He's made mistakes in his private life, but who here hasn't. Edge is truly one of the greats, and a guaranteed Hall of Famer. Thank you Adam Copeland for all you've done. Thank you for the memories, the times I hated you, all the 5 second poses, and the times you made me scream "Holy shit!!"

I personally never understood why Edge received as much as he did. He was never GREAT in the ring (especially after his initial neck injury), and he was never really GREAT during promos. In the grand scheme of things, Edge will not even compare to many of the greats in wrestling lore. Especially since multiple title reigns isn't all that big of an accomplishment anymore. Other than that he has no real stamp on the history of wrestling.

But that's just one mans poorly written opinion -TDub

I was honestly shocked...we'll not that he retire but that it happened so suddenly. Most of us knew that he wasn't physically what he use to be and most of us knew that Edge has been talking about retirement for sometime now, but I thought he had at least another year..maybe two. Edge is one of my favorites and he always will be.

This just shows you all the things these athletes have to endure when you get into that ring and that these things happen. Untimely or not, these athletes put their bodies on the line to entertain us,their loyal fans and sometimes they hit a snag in their careers that end up costing them many years. While Edge had an very untimely end, he retired at the top of his career and I thank him that he got out before it was to late..I thank him for all the entertaining moments he gave us..I thank him for all the spectacular matches he gave us night in and night out..I thank him from the bottom of my heart..this is indeed a very sad day for the WWE. Long live the Rated R Superstar. So long Edge, you gave us so many memories as I'm sure we gave you just as many in return, you will be missed. Stay healthy Adam.

I almost cried watching his goodbye. In my opinion, his send off was much more upsetting than Ric Flair's or HBK's any day. It shocked me, because I thought he had one year left in him. Everything Edge does is magic, and I will remember him for that. And better leave with his body intact than ending up on a wheelchair guys!

Thank you for being the best Edge!

As much as it saddens me to see Edge retire. I'm glad they allowed him to retire as a champ. Thank you for your years of entertainment, Edge. Sad to see few Canadians left.

I was shocked when I watched Edge retire. I wish this is false and just a work, but it wouldn't make sense for them to do that now. I don't think that Edge will be gone forever though. Edge will be back as a GM or commentator. Edge could come back to Raw and say he's not done with the WWE yet and destroys the Laptop (again) and name himself as the new Raw General Manager. It'd replace the stale storyline and insert Edge into a meaningful position and still be apart of WWE.

I definitely will miss Edge. I wish he did not have to go out this way. Hopefully, Christian gets to finally have the title, to honor his friend Adam Copeland. Good luck EDGE!!!

Yeah sadly this is true, end of an era for sure. The WWE has officially lost its edge now.

Thank you Edge!!

Hey,we still have The Miz and John Cena.

I'm in complete shock. I kept expecting music to hit, or for him to say "just kidding" but nope. I wish him the best. :worship:

ive never been a huge fan of him honestly, but im sad to see him go... been watching him for over 10 years now

im glad hes retiring before he has any further neck problems
