Dundee United are being tipped quite heavily to push Celtic this season over the SPL title. I don't buy that, though our last two match performances have been excellent so you never truly know. Not that anyone outside of me and Dave cares about Scottish football...

Chelsea is a solid team.
They have almost a quality backup for every position. I have a sneaky feeling they might attempt Spain's strikerless formation if Torres is shit this year. Harden, Mata, Lampard all can play the Fabregas false striker role in the Euros.

Just can't see that happening. Dundee United and Hearts will battle it for second. Celtic will breeze it.

He almost crashed his car when they offered him a mere 150, no doubt.

He was likely violently ill when they had the audacity to only offer him £195,000 p/w.

They have back up for each position. Not sure about a lot of it being quality though.

Mata maybe, although I see him as far more of a ball player than a false forward. Dont't know enough about Hazard to comment but it would be a big role to play for someone just signed for the club and is unproven outside Ligue 1. Lampard is in no way a false 9. Not only is he not fast or mobile enough, he also requires others ahead of him to punch the hole so he can arrive late to pick up the pieces.

You looking forward to the derbies with Dundee this season?

I'm sure that Celtic-Aberdeen must be the most played opening fixture in any league.

Chelsea could probably do with another full back, a winger and one, perhaps two, strikers.

Torres is so mentally fragile now that he cannot be expected to shoulder the goal-scoring burden. Lukaku is unproven and Sturridge is dominated by delusions of his own grandeur.

I haven't a clue where you have got this from. Lukaku needs his chance, so does Sturridge as a striker. And if Torres, Lukaku and Sturridge are incapable of scoring goals then bring in a new striker in January. I agree that Chelsea need a capable right-winger (not Ramires) and a right-back.

A new goalkeeper is a must as Cech has become so unreliable it's sickening.

What? Where have you gotten that notion?

A sturdy Vidic/Vermaelen/Kompany like figure in defence to cover whimsical Terry and to try and ease the big bad wolf out the game would come in handy too

Vermaelen over Terry? You're delusional. I suppose cases can be made for Kompany & Vidic but Vermaelen is not on Terry's level. He's a good centre-back, by far Arsenal's best defender at the moment, but he's not as good as John Terry. Terry's season last year was one of his worst but I still think he's reliable and am confident in him performing this year.

A holding midfielder as Mikel can go fuck himself and the likes of Meireles and Essien are either always injured or are mistake prone.

Mikel's fine. I'd still start Essien but Mikel is fine, towards the end of last season he played the best he's ever played for Chelsea and it was more than sufficient, he'll probably break into the line-up at some point if he continues his form this year. The idea of Meireles holding the midfield irritates the fuck out of me, hopefully Tottenham will snatch him up and keep playing him there.

In attack, Chelsea need an in and out striker who can grab them tap ins, and Torres plays as a centreback half the time so there goes that theory.

I understand what you're saying, Torres plays too deep. Hopefully this year somebody can provide him with chances so he doesn't actuallly have to go create for himself. That's what Hazard, Oscar and Marin were brought in for.

And finally, Chelsea really should hold on to Benayoun as he really could be a useful assett for when Mata gets injured.

I'm not sure about Benayoun. He can be top class, but I don't think I'll miss him if he goes.

But, you know, you guys have Paulo Ferreira so I'll see myself out.

Hence, the new right-back.

I would love if Dundee utd challenged my only fear for Celtic is without the Challenge of rangers the players know they don't need to give 100% in every game. But united do have a good young side wouldn't surprise me if they pushed close to Celtic.

I haven't a clue where you have got this from.

By watching him play. His remonstrations with his teammates like it is their fault that he has done something rubbish tell me all I need to know. He is not a head down, hard worker. He is the arrogant centre forward who thinks he is owed something due to his talent.

Now, as much as I hate such displays, there are some players who have 'earned' the right to be so arrogant. Things might change but so far, with his one decent loan spell at Bolton, Sturridge has about as much right to such arrogance as Niklas Bendtner.

I suppose you're right thinking about it. Just looking back to the second half of the season, he was what you describe. The first half of the season he pulled off just about everything he tried so I accepted it. Although I don't think he's at all comparable to that scumbag Bendtner. Sturridge is obviously a far better player. I guess Torres' resounding lack of confidence make me see Sturridge's arrogance as a good thing.

It would be a good thing if Sturridge was actually scoring any goals.

In his defence though, I will say that Sturridge is fighting an uphill battle at Chelsea, especially due to the 4-3-3 formation that they play. He is not going to get picked ahead of Torres as the central striker, which means that if he plays at all, he will be shifted out onto the wing, which he is not suited to at all.

The fact that Sturridge is being linked with a transfer away from the Bridge might suggest that others, perhaps even including himself, realise that.

Still, I am far from surprised by the meagre figures being bandied about for him, even though he is an English striker.

So happy we got through unlucky for Motherwell if there's any other celtic fans on here heres possible opponents for the next round Helsingborgs, Maribor, Hapoel Kiryat Shmona, Partizan/Limassol or Cluj

Well he was for the first half of the season. And he wasn't even playing as a striker.

Well I'm thinking that if Torres isn't playing well or gets injured and Chelsea aren't getting results then give Sturridge or Lukaku a chance as a striker. I'm confident they wouldn't disappoint. At least, not as much as Torres.

You have to remember that the only reason Sturridge is at Chelsea in the first place is because Manchester City found his wage demands to be ridiculous. The club that give Wayne Bridge 90 grand a week to play for Brighton found his wage demands to be out of order. If that doesn't show a Billy Big Bollocks attitude, I don't know what does.

Was that the first half of the season where AVB refused to play 4-3-3? I think so.

You thought wrong. It was the first half of the season when he played right-wing in 4-3-3 under AVB.

Sturridge is good but i have my doubts he is a Chelsea player. As it stands he is their second choice striker and if Torres doesn't hit form; they will struggle.

Hearts v Liverpool in the Europa league.

Saw this on facebook earlier

@Ray_Devlin: #McCost is furious that The #Rangers have been deducted two points for failing to beat Peterhead. "Have we not been punished enough?"

I was actually filming in Peterhead today and I could tell who the Gers fans were at the wedding reception as they were huddled towards the back muttering, "fucking CHEATS eh!?"

What're we using for the fantasy football? I need a new hobby and have never done a proper one of these before.
