They need to get a former Liverpool legend in.

Graham Souness step forth.

Three Premier League jobs up for grabs?

Liverpool
Villa
West Brom

There's only one man for the job. Step forth JF'NK

Given that the owners have no links to or understanding of the glory days, the next Liverpool manager could be anyone. I know who I would like to see get the job but who we will actually be able to attract/pay is another thing altogether.

No interest in Capello as he is almost as out of touch with his tactics as Dalglish was.

I'd say Martinez might be a good bet along with Brendan Rodgers but I am not sold on either of them.

A bit rich coming from a Newcastle fan...

And if I were a Chelsea fan, I would not be clamouring for Di Matteo to get the job just yet. He could easily be riding a Dalglish type wave.

If Roberto Di Matteo wins the champions league, and the opportunity comes around to employ Jose, I'd still go with Jose.

What Di Matteo has done is inspire the old guard and get them playing at their best, which is a great accomplishment, but not really a viable long term strategy. He hasn't shown any real capacity for team construction, and Chelsea need to rebuild quickly.

What do you mean? It's different.

Di Matteo is getting results.

And for the last 4 months of last season after Dalglish's appointment, Liverpool were one of the league's form horses.

Di Matteo has definitely breathed new life into Chelsea but he has done so by reverting to an old system that is on its last legs. He has essentially reanimated a corpse.

Dalglish was found out through his transfer policy and implementing tactics that not only make Liverpool hard to score against but also able to win games. Di Matteo could easily end up the same way.

Let someone else give it to him. Chelsea aren't really in a position where they can gamble away another season. With an emerging arms race between the Manchester giants, Chelsea need a good season.

I love Robbie Di Matteo and Chelsea fan in me would love to see him get the job; but from a logical standpoint, Jose would be the better choice. If the option exists to make Robbie Di Matteo the highest paid assistant manager in the league then go for it, but if I were Abramovitch then I wouldn't be putting my fate in his hands.

Now I understand what you're saying. I'd completely forgotten about what happened with Liverpool last season after Dalglish's appointment.

Well, Di Matteo is 20 years younger than Dalglish and is nowhere near as old fashioned, judging by his team selections, he's looking to the future and knows when and when not to play a certain player almost perfectly. This bolded part right here cannot be said for Dalglish. We can't judge his transfers until/if it happens. In that respect, I can understand why it's seen as something of a wild card.

Dalglish ruined my club too, at least he didn't sign Paul, Ian Rush, John Barnes and Stuart Pearce for you guys,

Jose isn't an option though otherwise my tune would be quite different. Jose is staying at Madrid and won't leave until he wins the Champions League. The only managers Chelsea could appoint if not Di Matteo is Capello or Benitez. Honestly, the both of them would be horrible.

I've had to turn my phone off cause Man United fans are abusing me, peasants.

I said in this thread that until Dalglish got sacked I wouldn't comment on bringing in a new manager, I don't agree with them sacking him, but I see where the owners are coming from. They have no sentimental attachment to a guy like Kenny running the show, they are in this to make money and the best way to make money in football is by winning. Liverpool lost money last year, spent a lot of it on players who haven't shown up to the dance and have finished poorly in the league.

I hope Kenny still has some form of participation in the club, but Liverpool need to realize that after all these managers who don't have the almighty track record that they need to look at those who do. Mourinhio would be the best we could get; not the most realistic, but the best. However, it seems as though most are dead-set on Roberto Martinez whom I disagree with.

Personally, I'm calling on Rafa. Unlike with Gillett and Hicks now he has the money to spend. Sure, he'll probably sign a gazillion Spaniards again but we won a Champions League and finished second in the league under his guidance, why not?

Because he's easy to fall out with and has the re-build a team almost every other season. His tem building skills work for a season of success and then a season of being shite. Before too long Rafa the waiter would be found out again and I can't see him going back.

Champions League in 05, FA Cup in 06, 2nd place in 09; give him a bit of money and he'll do better than those who proceeded him. Plus, he lives in Liverpool, ideal fit.

The only people in the England squad at this point you'd want to stack up against top international players are Hart, Cole, Gerrard, Parker (maybe) and Young. Lampard will play like shite for England as always, Terry will get found out, Barry runs hot and cold and at one pace only, and Rooney is missing the first two matches, so they are non factors, not that Rooney ever really turns up either.
Lescott's had a good season for the most part, so he's a good choice to take I think, right now a better option than Jones or Cahill. Jagielka on standby is a bit harsh though, I think he's a beast, but who to take out for him? Jones would be the best bet, but he's a future England captain apparently and I suppose that he's fairly comfortable in midfield and right back as well as a centre back help his cause. Downing has surely only got in because he's played more games this season than some of the others who could've gone, its the only reason I can see.

I'll just be happy if we get out of the group stages, I think most people feel the same, which could actually help because they might not be expected to do well for once.

Disagree with your comments on Lampard and Terry, I'll ignore them however.

Almost everyone I know who isn't English is adamant England won't get out of the group stage. England fans must take your approach and lower their silly expectations.

I think Benitez is the best Liverpool could do right now.

I agree actually. He would be better than both Martinez and AVB, though both will get A LOT better in the future. The odds on Rikjaard shortened massively in the last 48 hours but he isn't on the wishlist. The other three are and are the only ones under consideration. But Benitez is a great manager who had one bad season and nearly won us the league. His man management is the worst aspect of his game, it caught him out at Inter and it's why Xabi left. But we were truly superb at times under him.

There's massive talk about Tziki Begristrian (sp) becoming our new Director of Football. David Dein has been mooted for a possible position but I'm not sure if this will happen.

Re: England, I'm fuming with the squad selection but my expectations were low to begin.

Haha did you see that lad on SSN?
"Problem with Kenny is you should never go back"
Reporter:"Who would you have now?"
"Rafa"
