Sky Sports News were reading out peoples emails and shit about an hour ago concerning Dalglish's exit and one Liverpool fan; well, I hope it's someone taking the piss, so a supposed Liverpool fan wrote in saying something along the lines of.

"We need to bring in a former player who truly understands the club, who is young and can be built into something special, when Kenny first came into management he'd never worked for any other club, just went from player to Liverpool manager, same with Graeme Souness. Liverpool need to look at former players turned managers like John Barnes, Paul Ince and Jason McAteer. Maybe even Jamie Redknapp, if Liverpool can pry him away from Sky."

I don't know whose the stupidest out of the four, but if Redknapp were ever given a management job whichever club daring enough to hire him should make sure they know they're getting an analyst who believes every player is "Quality!"

A year on and Martinez is being linked with Villa, with yet more claims that he will one day "manage a top European club." There's getting carried away, and then there's sounding like Dave Whelan.

I can't see Martinez leaving Wigan really. He remained loyal last year and they actually started to win quite a lot towards the tail-end of last season. I think he'll try and build on that for another season at least.

On England -

People seem to complain, but aside from Henderson being a reserve and Richards not being in it, there is absolutely zero consensus on what was wrong. It's simple, England aren't very good. He hasn't taken Richards because it's better to take the more versatile Phil Jones to a tournament. No manager has ever trusted Richards when the chips are down, and there must be a reason that the armchair pundits are unaware of.

I can understand the rage about Downing, but at the same time, him and Adam Johnson are the only left footed midfielders, and neither's exactly played a blinder this season. Downing has inexplicably been played on the right for most of the season. Moved to the left, he won't be as bad. If you have to play Andy Carroll or Peter Crouch or whoever, you need a left winger.

On Liverpool:

Correct decision. Tactically Benitez isn't a bad shout, but unless they get a decent man in to buy the players, it's a non-starter. I'm sick to death of listening to apologists for Benitez re. his transfer policy. At the end of the day, despite having "no money" he conspired to spend well over £50 million on the likes of Ryan Babel, Alberto Aquilani, Albert Riera, Glen Johnson, Sortiros Kyrgiakos and Robbie Keane in his last couple of years there, all of whom would feature in the Charlie Adam - Henderson - Downing conversation were they still there.

The Liverpool fans didn't give a man who took Fulham to a European final a chance, do you think they're going to embrace a man who's principal achievement is twice narrowly avoiding relegation with Wigan, having got them there in the first place?

I don't know what the answer is, but for once I'd like it if Liverpool stopped living in the past

For the record, the England team looks like one of the best teams that England have sent to any finals in recent history. They are, finally, trying to do something a bit different with Roy Hodgson. To be perfectly honest, the old way of doing things wasn't working very well, was it? Why not try and bring in some new faces and see what the young players can do?

That said, I seriously doubt that many of those young faces are going to get a look-in against the likes of John Terry, Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney.

All in all though, I would say that England have a better chance of getting further now than if they took the same old faces to another European Championship.

What has Martinez done to be worthy of being linked with the Liverpool job?

Yes he has done well to keep Wigan up for a few years, but they only ever get any points in the last few games. He has done well to get his squad of average players to beat alot of the big teams in the last 10 games of the season but my question is...why can't he get Wigan to win games in the first 25 matches of a season? Why does heonly get the best out of his team in the final quarter?

I thought Lee would beat me to this and break out a along the way too, but Owen won't be having his contract renewed at United (Man) for next season.

52 games, 18 starts, 17 goals isn't too bad a return on a free pay-as-he-plays signing. I expect Berbatov will move on this summer too and I'll honestly be a bit sad to see him go. He wasn't as prolific as people thought he would be, but was still joint top goalscorer the season before last and was actually a tall target man.

I think this summer could be a big one for United. Last year they went for youth which yielded some positivity; Jones is a beast but still has room for improvement, De Gea in the second half of the season began to look more confident and comfortable but again still needs to work on aspects of his game, and Ashley Young had some bright moments but needs to improve his consistency. This year I'd like to see some experienced players come in, although it seems we may be going for Dortmund's Japanese winger Shinji Kagawa.

If that is true, he should never be considered again. That and he is useless.

Will be interesting what he says to SAF when someone like Sneijder is bought and Cleverley is fit and Carrick finds himself on the bench...

Didn't you do your PhD on the late Roman Empire? (I want to say something about their recruiting practices, but I'm probably wrong) Seems to be a dit of disconnect between your (potential) Post-Doc work and your doctorate.
