EDIT: On the topic of Michael Owen i don't see why United need him. He's a decent finisher but he won't score much against premier league teams. United should use the League cup to blood some of their young strikers like Diouf and Macheda who both could be twice the player Owen is now if they reach their potential.

Player bought by the owner, not manager, who failed to do what he was bought with massive amounts of money for. Sounds similar to me.

30 years old and hadn't played in the Premier League prior. Pretty different from Torres.

European Cup Semi-Finalists, Uefa Cup Finalists. We didn't need a Russian billionaire to achieve that.

How do we need a Russian Billionaire to do that when we did it and better prior to his arrival?

Ferraira, Anelka, Ballack was shit in his last 2 years, Drogba only scored 11 last season and wont score that amount this season. Lamps and Terry aren't as good as they were 2 years ago. Beletti did nothing at Chelsea and don't get me started on Shevchenko's "holiday" at the club.

Shevchenko was a bad signing and that was clearly after his prime, not during it. Ballack was good during his last season. I never said these players were improving, There's enough quality left in them for them to still be considered Top Class.

Ugh, Chelsea fans.

Also, I would like to ask why no-one is pissing themselves over Spurs short-comings last night?! Gomes was out of this World. No, really, his mind wasn't on Earth.

You say that as if it was ok that you paid 30 million for him.

Drogba scored 11 goals in all competitions last season that's not top class its not even class.
Anelka has not scored more then 10 goals a season in the last 3 years.
Amazingly Ferreira still picks up a paycheck at Chelsea and a pretty big one at that.

It's in the past, no point crying about it. At the time, no, it wasn't okay.

With the exception of Ashley Cole and Petr Cech, nobody was class for Chelsea last season.

Wait a sec, what? Anelka was the top goalscorer of the Premier League in 09 with 19 goals and 25 in all comps.

I wouldn't mind it if Ferreira was gone.

You reached the semi-finals of Europe's most prestigious competition before Abramovich?

We reached the quarter finals and were knocked out by Barcelona despite winning the first leg 3-1. We won the European Cup Winners' Cup twice which was more prestigious than the UEFA Cup during it's entirety.

We beat Barcelona both at home and at the Nou Camp. In fact, we're undefeated against them in competitive matches.

Cech isn't as good as he used to be, and really, ASHLEY FUCKING COLE!? You lost it? Florent Malouda and Kalou if anything.

Kalou was seen as an unsung hero by some fans but outside of the occasional performance and goal, he was shit.

Cech had a strong season. Despite being Chelsea's top goalscorer, Malouda overall season performance wasn't very good.

Ashley Cole was the most consistent part of the team at LB and played very well apart from a few games.

Didn't he spend a few months suffering and then dealing with malaria though? I used to despise Drogba but he's cut out a lot if not all the bullshit that used to surround him so can appreciate him as a player a lot more now.

That, and City have overtaken Chelsea as the new contenders ;)

I presume those were your only competitive matches against them. By the way, when was this?

Back when we were one of the two best teams in the country, the mid 80's. Keep in mind we're a pretty small club compared to Chelsea so it's not like we sustain our brilliance for long periods of time.

Talk about jumping the gun.

Bets if Torres had tried to do himself in with a gun he would have missed that too? ;)

I could well be proved wrong about Chelsea/City, but despite Mancini's idiotic claims that his squad isn't big enough, hard to look past them staying in contention, dare I say maybe even winning, the league. Chelsea haven't really strengthened, and for the most part AVB is still untested as there is a big difference between the Portuguese league and the Premier League, just as there is a big difference between being a member of a top manager's backroom staff and being the manager.

The 80s was probably the worst decade in Chelsea Football Club, considering the worst season in our history is 82/83. We went up a year (we were relegated in 78/79) later but were back down again in 88 and then we were promoted again a year later.

So, as you'd imagine, I'm not very fond of the 80s historically, football wise. No wonder I didn't know about Dundee's success against Barcelona.
