Great performance from Ireland! We just held England to a draw at their own sport.

I also like how ITV totally ignored the 1995 game when Ireland took the lead and a group of England fans tried to destroy Landsdowne Road.

They also didn't mention IRA bombing the fuck out of London in the late 80s/90s so what's your beef?

The IRA weren't from the Republic of Ireland, to be fair.

I was offered a ticket for the match tonight. Decided that it wasn't worth the pain in the arse train journey home, that would take ages and be a ball ache. So I went to the pub instead, and got home at 4am. Well played, Gaz.

You're a Fulham fan aren't you, Tasty? Can you give me your opinion on Hughes as a coach. From the outside looking in he looked like he did a decent job for you before screwing you over. It's hard to judge his time at Man City and QPR looked like a lost cause before he arrived, while he was there and after he left.

Seems do be a decent manager when he has a modest budget(Blackburn, Fulham) it's only when he's been given very large budgets to play with that he's made a mess of things(City, QPR) it's hard to blame him totally for the QPR thing though.
Stoke should be around Hughes level. It'l be interesting to see if he makes much of a change in regard to the style of football played.

Being a Blackburn fan I might chip in something about Hughes too. He is good at organizing the first 11 to compete for most matches. His teams here were always one of the most physically fit during his time here. Samba looked like an athlete in a Blackburn shirt! I would expect the team to improve in fitness if nothing else, especially after the QPR debacle. His sides often struggled to win against teams that play defensively but that shouldn't be an issue with Stoke since they are not Man City and most teams would not 'park the bus' against them.

Oh and by the way, Perez just said Bale was born to play for Madrid. Poor Spurs fans for the next few weeks. LoL

My agenda if I was David Moyes; Sell Rooney for as much as possible and buy Gareth Bale. Should about wrap up the Premier League for the next few years.

I'm a Liverpool fan, but had a Fulham season ticket the last few years. Hughes is a dick and the fans never really got on board with him, despite the fact that he was doing a reasonable job.

He bought Dembele, who was probably Fulham's best buy over the time I've been watching them, but it took Jol to put him in the right position. He also got Sidwell, which was probably a good move.

Fulham is the only team he's managed that have had a good disciplinary record - they qualified for Europe based on it, but he's definitely big on the set plays. Hangeland scored 6 or 7 that season, and I don't think he's scored since, not a coincidence - look at how many Samba used to score at Blackburn - expect Huth to be your top scorer.

I don't think he'll be that bad a fit for Stoke - you can point to the signings he made at QPR being shit, but I doubt he had much input in the ridiculous buys City were making. At Blackburn and Fulham he got a lot for his money - Santa Cruz, McCarthy and Dembele being classic examples.

That season, Fulham looked abysmal at times, but he was unlucky in that Zamora broke his leg early in the season, and there wasn't a similar player to replace him. When Zamora was playing at the start and end of the season, Fulham had top-6 form.

Honestly, looking back, I think he did a pretty good job and had Zamora been fit, I think they would have finished above Everton, and maybe even Liverpool that season. The problem was that he always thought he was bigger than the club, and didn't really seem to have a long term plan. Maybe eating humble pie at QPR will mean he's not like that for you.

I can see why he's unpopular, but I think he's a decent option for Stoke - he didn't re-invent the team at Fulham, but played to its strengths, and I think he'll do the same there. Fulham came 8th and got into Europe when he was the manager, and Blackburn got into Europe under him to, not to mention the fact that he was the closest a Welsh manager has come to a major tournament since the 70s.

That pretty much confirms what I thought about him. Seems perfect for Stoke. Better than going for somebody who's used to playing carpet football in lower leagues and then expecting to get them improve on established Premiership Pulisballers.

He's already unpopular. Probably based on his run with QPR. However a lot of Stokies I've spoke to would've been happy with Redknapp, so....

I fail to see how Redknapp is so popular with so many fans. He is just another chequebook manager abit in the lower region of the football foodchain.

Redknapp's popularity comes from that he's English and works well with a budget, put a leash on him and you shouldnt have many problems tbh.

Cant see the vid, but the "I nearly fackin signed him when I was at. . ." got ridiculous. Basically anyone who could kick a ball nearly got fackin signed.

I wouldn't call Redknapp working well with a budget when he keep moaning about lack of money at every club. Like I said, he is a chequebook manager with varying degree of success. Doesn't make him a bad manager though, just that I wouldn't rank him as someone I want my club to hire as a first choice.

Like I said; English + gets results (with media darlings Spurs in particular)= popular. Pretty sure most dont pay attention to what he says. Regulate his spending and most clubs will do okay without going bankrupt.

Some Stoke fans need to shut up, Hughes was a very good appointment. Remove the QPR stain from his CV and you've got a more than suitable contender for the Everton job.

To be fair he was shit at Man City too, given how much he spent. I've never rated the guy, he starts well and then walks quickly when things go downhill. I'm predicting now that he won't last a year, seeing as he quit Fulham after 11 months because he didn't feel they were ambitious enough, and Stoke are hardly a step-up.

Even if you were to describe him like this, he'd still be a good appointment for Stoke City given their current situation, lack of managerial alternatives and what he has achieved with other mid-table clubs.

Sounds like Mourinho.
