Domestic football - spam version

Martinez took Wigan from being a team that didn't net spend and used to finish about 11th with Steve Bruce to being a team that didn't net spend and got relegated.

Everton are a big club who can draw players on their reputation and who have been in the top flight since before David Moyes was born.

The job Pulis did was different, and he made Championship also-rans Stoke a solid Premier League side. The trouble is, they weren't getting any better. The last time a similar situation arose, Curbishley left Charlton, and Charlton left the top two flights of English football. He's a victim of his own success, as much as he is of his shite philosophy.

Steve Bruce didn't stay to rebuild the side that was ripped to shred the following season though. I would say Bruce and Martinez are about similar in quality. Both are definitely better than Pulis.

I don't see how Everton's stay in the top flight is used as a knock against Moyes. Who can Everton really attract due to their reputation during his earlier years? Probably the same type of players Stoke can if they scouted overseas too. I guess Moyes probably lucked out with the Rooney sale to build a solid premier league team with that money. Or maybe geography play a part in the type of players they can attract? Who really knows except Pulis and his team?

I'll agree Pulis is a victim of his own success in getting Stoke promoted. Stoke can very well be another Charlton. But I don't recall Charlton outspending everyone else around them and still rely on their goalkeeper to win games. No mention of Allardyce? I would have thought him and Pulis would be more similar to compare with, just to show how piss poor a job Pulis has done with the resources provided.

This very conversation has been had ad neuseum in pubs all over Greenwich. See also: 'Isn't it great to have a black manager?'

So Monaco are spending big. Moutinho, Rodriguez and reportedly Falcao too for a total approaching £100million - and with a few other names to join them.

They must be throwing money at those players to no end - and running the risk of not complying with FFP - as Monaco are not in any European competition next season.

They only have to spend half the amount Man City and PSG do though on these players' wages because they don't have 45% income tax to contend with (though I think Hollande wants to make top rate tax about 70%). Monaco, on the otherhand, aren't French, they are Monegasque, so they have a whopping 0% income tax.

Funny, I had thought about whether Monaco had different financial constraints (or lack thereof) but hadn't really taken the whole income tax loophole into account.

And yeah, Hollande is trying to force through a 75% tax on anyone making over 1 million euros a year.

I read somewhere that Porto are selling Rodriguez for 69 million and Moutinho for 1 million to Monaco just to avoid paying Sporting Lisbon the 25% sell on fee..

I figured there's probably no better place to post this and get replies then here.

Earlier this week, Man City (along with the New York Yankees) have purchased an Expansion Major League Soccer team, To be called New York City Football Club (or NYCFC or New York City FC). Over here in America the thought is that it could/will help grow Man City's fanbase here in America, and even raise interest in MLS to have a prominent European team involved. What's the reaction to this news on the other side of the Atlantic (I assume the news made it over there since Man City bought the team)? What's your take on this?

It's made the news but domestically Man City are expected to announce a new manager on Monday and one of their executives unveiled their 5 year plan which was laughably misinterpreted by some of the sports writers here. Their target is to win a trophy per season; the premier league, league cup, FA Cup OR Champions League. Some writers then ran the story that the new manager MUST win the Champions League or be fired.

I highly doubt Manuel Pellegrini, rumoured to be the next manager, will be there for the full 5 years and wonder whether the Europa League cup would be acceptable.

The deal with the MLS side is definitely lucrative as an income stream due to FIFAs financial fair play regulations and no doubt they will have seen how well foreign income streams have worked for their noisy neighbours.

You have to imagine Bayern can't screw it up again

I'd prefer not to see a repeat of last years CL Final in next seasons Super Cup, if that's what it's even called these days? I won't be as gutted as I was last year if the team I'm backing loses, the joys of a fairly neutral final!

Play off final has been uncharacteristically shit. Palace look better, but I reckon it will be penalties, unless K-Phil does the business a la Windass for Hull.

Apparently Bayern have made a huge bid for Suarez, in the region of £50-60 mil. I'd sell at that kind of price. Liverpool have agreed to sign Iago Aspas. Decent player for less than £8 mil.

Shane Long's goal was beautiful.

Fat Frank's was also quite good.

The atmosphere in Wembley is probably better than its been in years, mostly cause of the Irish fans.

And the only person whose more of a twat than Ashley Cole is Roy Keane, who simply couldn't go fifteen minutes without saying something to get some spotlight. Great player, still a prick.
