Dark Knight Rises Teaser Trailer

Batman will make more here stateside, but Harry Potter will make more globally.

And comparing total gross of films without inflation is silly. It's real easy to make more money when average ticket price today is 7.50 a ticket, compared to 4.00 a ticket for some of the earlier Batman films.

Again it's all silly, because Warner Brothers is going to swim in the cash from these tent poles.

We're not debating which franchise has made more. I think Harry Potter wins that hands down, even when adjusted for inflation. This is about which film will gross more overall and in their opening weekend: the last Harry Potter film or DKR.

The difference world wide between Dark Knight and Hallows part 1 was only 50 Million dollars. TDK has the benefit of opening in the summer, where movies pretty much make money for themselves. Winter openings have been coming on strong, but it's much easier to rake in cash in the summer. Deathly Hallows part 2 so far has a 100% on RT and is pretty much a non stop action movie. Add that into all of the backstory, you're going to have a movie that makes some serious cash.

Stateside I think Captain America might steal some numbers away, but not globally.

I can't remember its full title, but Part 1 did $954,501,070. That's for half a film with an inconclusive ending. A film in which nothing basically happened, yet people went to see it time and time again. And you think the final part, that wraps up what all the previous films have been building up to, won't make significantly more than part 1?

The number I had wasn't near the number you posted, but I did more looking around and my original was WAY off base.

But I still believe that Batman will be making more than Harry. Harry even has the advantage going in considering it will be in 3D and 3D movies have a higher ticket price.

If you're talking strictly opening weekend, lean with the Comic Book movie here in the states. Comic book movies make almost 50% of their total haul based on fanboy craze.

I see people are still ignoring the fact that The Dark Knight made more money, worldwide, than any single HP film. That means something, like it or not.

Batman Begins made significantly less than any Potter film. That film underperformed, TDK overperformed. The Dark Knight Rises doesn't benefit from featuring the most recognizable supervillain in comic book history and I'd say its unlikely one of the main stars is going to die again.

The Dark Knight Rises features a second tier villain, like Batman Begins. It'll perform well because its predecessor was very well received and naturally its highly anticipated. But a Bat film without The Joker, Two-Face or The Riddler can't hope to match The Dark Knight.

Bane is a great character, but he just isn't as widely known as some of the other villains.

His death turned that film into a fucking phenomenon,

It was his performance that turned that film into a "fucking phenomenon," not his death. If people were so hypnotized over Ledger's death then they also would have flocked to see The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, but that movie didn't draw shit, did it?

As far as this ******ed Potter vs. Batman argument goes... Harry Potter is for kids, of course it draws more than Batman, just as those stupid Pixar movies consistently draw ridiculous numbers. Only difference is that Harry Potter nerds have grown up and still like the horseshit for whatever reason, therefore it makes more money than those crappy movies should.

Going into the release of the third film, I don't believe the villain is as important as he/she was four years ago. Anyone who saw The Dark Knight is going to see The Dark Knight Rises, especially when you consider how TDK ended. Honestly, I'll be surprised if the third entry doesn't surpass the second (box office numbers).

All I'm getting from this is that JMT doesn't like Pixar and Harry Potter. Or maybe it is kiddie movies he doesn't like.

Its understandable why he doesn't like Potter films, they're horse shit. The only poor Pixar film was Cars and even that looked fantastic, even if it was as empty as my soul.

Apparently the second is even emptier. Ten times the empty, they say.

Im getting dragged to this one. Part 1 was pretty bad but the second half of the book was a bit of a cluster, so it could be entertaining if nothing else.

Did people really say the dark knight rises is gonna outsell the FINAL Harry Potter movie being made? :lmao:

Apparently they do think that and they even say that the Harry Potter franchise is horseshit, which is a little bit crazy if you think that they sold more books than the Bible and Twilight

Well, Twilight is horse shit anyways, so. I love Harry Potter and have been reading the books since I was a kid. Still re-read them over and over and i'm 21.

There's no way Harry potter's sold more copies than the bible.
