Dana White seems like a crybaby

I'm not a huge MMA fan, but I follow it somewhat.

The one thing that bothers me about Dana White is when he calls out guys for basically not being entertaining enough, saying this guy or the other fought "too safe" or something along those lines. Yeah? Fuck off, pal.

It's a legitimate sport/competition and the number one objective is to win. Why should these guys, who are measured by wins and losses, change what they do best when that could seriously damage how well they do? Sounds stupid and selfish on White's part.

You never saw David Stern piss and moan about the San Antonio Spurs. Why? He's smart enough to realize that in legitimate competition, people play to win.

Anyone else annoyed by this?

He already hands out financial rewards for the best fights, knockouts and submissions. If they're still not being entertaining, fuck it.

Here's the reward I'd request - guarantee I will stay relevant (and wealthy) after losing a fight or two due to changing my gameplan so I come off more entertaining. That would snag my acceptance stamp.

He definitely acts like a salty cunt when things don't go his way. He's been throwing fits for a while now though so maybe his "vision" of UFC isn't going the way he thought it would. Those Lesnar comments probably threw him over the edge.

Sometimes it seems he expects the guys to do cartwheels & have nifty catchphrases in exchange for better fighting ability\strategy. I'm sorry but for a guy who prides himself on having a legit sport, he seems to want things more like the WWE than he would care to admit.

As soon as a guy gets knocked the fuck out for being 'entertaining' instead of paying attention- I wonder if he changes his stance on the subject. I bet some of the more serious fighters are just waiting for a chance when an opponent tries to be cute instead of focused. Those type of fighters will embarrass a guy for it and walk away with a win in the process.

Isn't that how Anderson Silva finally lost his title?

Dana promotes himself more than he does the product. The guy got lucky with the UFC's success and his egomaniac ways will tear the company down within the next few years.

If I can remember correctly, David Stern fined the Spurs last year because they rested their star talent against Miami. Calling it a "dishonor to the fans" or some shit. Which is just prettier way of doing the same thing Dana White does.

Dana is just open about what every promoter of any combat sport - real or otherwise - has known - their business is about entertainment, not purity of the game. I guess that's true of every sport frankly, and again, some commissioners are more open than others about it. Roger Goodell has blatantly influenced the NFL toward offense, which is more exciting, for example.

There's a reason boxing is on life support - because there's no one interesting left. The sport thrived because personalities like Ali, or Tyson, or what have you, were super popular and charismatic. Dana knows his business needs entertaining fights and entertaining fighters to work. Should he be so open about it? Maybe not, but it's still the truth.

Sometimes I think he's jealous that Vince gets to manufacture it while he has to hope for it.

On a related note, his comments about the WWE Network were hilarious. He trashed it and all but said that it was a disaster for him, because the WWE is basically out and out admitting PPVs are too expensive, hence the Network. The UFC is soon going to be the only major player left in PPV sports and that's not going to end well for him.

Been a while since I paid much attention to boxing. One of the last real entertaining boxers I remember was Naseem Hamed. Unorthodox to say the least because his style & ring entrances were crazy at times. Ill be damned though if he didnt have a great left hand. One of the few boxers I enjoyed watching back then.

I know this isn't the point, but David Stern did piss and moan about the Spurs. He always made decisions based on what he thought would pad his pockets.

To be fair, I think Popovich was taking a shot at Stern with the move to rest the Spurs vs. the Heat in that national TV game (which wound up being a Finals preview for what it's worth). I mean he's made similar moves before so it wasn't a direct shot but I think it was a subtle dig to prove a point.

This statement couldn't be any more incorrect, Harthan. Boxing went on a slow period after Lennox Lewis retired, but since 2008 with the rise of Pacquiao and Mayweather, Boxing has been THRIVING. And I promise you there are more rising stars in Boxing right now than there are in MMA.

Boxing still outdraws the UFC when they are on subscribed channels while the UFC is on network television. How pathetic is that? This past UFC on Fox did a 1.1 rating (which was up from their past couple of shows, lol), while Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana did a 1.3 on Showtime in December.

Like I said earlier, Dana White promotes himself over the fighters. The first UFC Magazine was released last year, who would you think should have been on the cover? GSP? Jon Jones? Anderson Silva? Jose Aldo? Nope, it was Dana White. What is this clown doing being on the cover of the first UFC magazine? What is this clown doing bashing his fighters publicly? What is this clown doing bragging publicly about losing 5 million in the casino while main event fighters get paid under 25k? He's a fucking joke, man. A complete joke. Yes, he can be entertaining at times, but his job isn't to be fucking entertaining. His job is to promote the product, but he instead promotes himself. It's pathetic and I promise you turns more people off than it does on to the sport.

Boxing is back on the rise and the UFC is currently on a huge slippery slope and it's all Dana's fault. It will only continue. GSP is gone. Who knows what's up with Anderson. Pettis gets hurt every other fight. Jon Jones doesn't have a star aura or personality, neither does Cain Velasquez. Brock Lesnar is not coming back, neither is Fedor. Chris Weidman is the original CAW character in Smackdown vs. Raw 2008. Jose Aldo has become boring as fuck. Ronda Rousey is currently the brightest thing about the company and I'd even go as far to say right now the face of the UFC, but as soon as she loses or retires, then what? Renan Barao is the only other bright spot about the company's future and I don't mean to say this to be funny, but the fact is that the guy's too ugly and has too generic of a personality to ever draw casual viewers in.

Dana White simply can't build new stars. He's even lucky to have Rousey fall in his lap like she did. Boxing, however, a new star is on the rise every day. Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev, Danny Garcia, Canelo Alvarez, Mikey Garcia, Vasyl Lomachenko, Adonis Stevenson, Kell Brook, and even that punk Adrien Broner are all potentially HUGE stars and there isn't a Dana White around to fuck it up for them. Not to mention both Mayweather and Pacquiao still have at least 2-3 years left in them.

I mean, I'll grant I don't know anything about boxing really so I won't dispute your points. I could say I have no idea who any of the people you just named off are (other than Mayweather and Pacquiao), but that just seems like an argument from ignorance which is pretty lame. Maybe I'm wrong here. It just seems like UFC is much more in the public consciousness than boxing is, though in a few years, maybe that will have changed. Maybe I just hang out on a forum that cares more about the UFC than it does boxing.

Maybe I should watch boxing.

Subtle dig or not he was fined for playing it safe to better his teams chance at winning, which exactly what he was saying Dana complains about and Stern didn't.

There's a huge difference here - Stern fined the Spurs for guys not even playing after fans purchased tickets. The guys Dana bitches about are out there fighting, they just happen to not be as entertaining as he would like them to be. Big difference.

What I find ironic about this, is the fact that while Dana White is trying to make his product riskier and more entertaining, it seems that Vince is always trying to play it safe. Maybe the two should switch jobs. Vince wouldn't have to worry about all of the rewrites and Dana can have his blood baths.

He should just tell his fighters to wear tassles. Job done.

Besides, I could beat him up and steal his girlfriend.#challengeissuedinflatedbuyratesguaranteedentertainmentI'llweartassles
