CM Punk Is The *NEW* WWE Champion

Cm punk defeated Alberto Del Rio for the WWE Championship at the 25th anniversary of Survivor Series so what are your opinions of CM punk being crowned world champion for the 5th time?

I'm glad the WWE went with Punk. Alberto Del Rio is a fine wrestler, but anyone not named Rey Mysterio, Del Rio doesn't seem to have chemistry with. I'm interested to see how long and how great of a champion Punk will be once his feud with Del Rio is over. Whatever the case, I hope the WWE realizes that Punk can cause a lot of interest in the WWE of given the right storyline. I don't really consider myself a Punk mark by any means but he really does have something that makes me watch Raw every week. Del Rio didn't do much as Champion and it's my belief he wasn't quite ready. He was moderatly over at times but that's about it. He needed more time to make the fans care about him. Punk will be a fine champion and hopefully, this will help Del Rio in the long run.

The WWE has become interesting again. Punk will get to finally do what he couldnt since the title was taken from him so soon. We never really got to experience Punk as a defending WWE Champ. With time on his side now, we can now be excited again since Punk keeps his promises.

It's about damn time the WWE put the title on the most over person in the company. I'm really looking forward to his title reign. I hope it's a long one.

I like how he won with the anaconda vice. He hardly wins with it nowadays. Hopefully he makes the WWE title interesting like he said he would. Looking forward to Raw tomorrow. As for the post above me. Punk should've definitely headlined over the Rocks match.

Match of the night. Best match in a month I think. So glad this happened. Only thing that made me get out of my seat.

The crowd chanted "You still got it" for the Rock... if the Rock still got it we wouldn't all be disappointed right now.

CM Punk, Best in the World: the proof is in the PPV

If you think Punk having the title makes him more interesting your wrong. I am a Punk supporter, I think what he has done is great, albeit long overdo. The "listen to the masses" thing has been around forever. The only advantage is punk has is the internet and for some strange reason it took wrestlers until 2011 to realize they could play for what the fans want directly. And OH by the way, hate WWE's new twitter fuck you down you throatness? Well hello sweetheart you are the victim of that same success. Remember folks behind every independent good idea is a corporate ideal. What made CM punk pop is now profitable.

Definatly match of the night. Punk said in Q&A outside MSG that he and Del Rio will steal the show and they did. Great celebration, Finkel was a great touch.

I'm hoping tommorow Punk introduces a new WWE belt design. Saying that this belt represented the era of cena as it introduced by him but the new belt represents his era as being the top guy.

I am so happy. Initially, I was hoping for Punk to win the title at a later time but Del Rio was absolutely not cutting it as champion. Hopefully, Punk gets a good and long reign because the WWE Championship needs stability. Which means Punk should hold the title at least through Wrestlemania. After all, I think WWE can get more out of the big event if Cena/Rock is not a title match and the WWE title match is given to others. Out of everyone on the RAW roster not named John Cena, Punk is the most primed to have that spot. So yeah, I'm happy about this. Here's to a long reign for a change. Please no more playing hot potato.

No complaints here and a nice surprise in my view. I wasn't expecting a title change until at least the TLC ppv but pulling the trigger early works in my view.

I like Del Rio, I think the guy has a lot of talent but he's just floundered overall as a main eventer on Raw. Looking back on it, it seems to have been a mistake taking him from SD!. On Raw, he's just been overshadowed by John Cena, CM Punk, the whole Cena vs. Rock thing brewing and it just hasn't worked. Maybe he needs to head on over back to the blue brand. It's done wonders for Sheamus and has generally revived Randy Orton's career, which had gotten a bit stale in my view.

At any rate, great win for Punk and it made up for the anti-climactic finish of Cena & Rock vs. Awesome Truth.

first off, this is a great move, hopefully (for a change) he gets a LONG title run and does things to the title that the fans want to see, like change the style, and of course make it interesting with matches and of course promos. i am SHOCKED they did this move today.

I think it was the only way to go putting the belt back on Punk. Think about it. This mini-boom in WWE storylines all started with the infamous Punk promo. He is the best in the company (of the regular roster anyway...not counting people like The Rock, Foley, etc.) on the mic. ADR is one of the worst and he is a bland character to boot. Riding in on an expensive car? Vehicle entrances are old and have been much better in the past (the Guerrero pimp-mobile and JBL's limo come to mind). The only thing he has going for him is his "announcer" and that just isn't enough since he's nothing more than a lackey. It would be something else if he was a manager who could cut promos for himself and ADR. Now that Punk is champ maybe he'll get more mic time since his promos have taken a back seat since he lost the belt last time. Punk with more mic time is only going to be good for WWE and Raw.

Its great that Punk won I would have liked del rio to hold it untill TLC but their fued can still continue with punk as champ... Id like to see him hold it until wrestlemania at least and fued with the miz that would be a good fued

Really glad Punk won on the big stage. Its good for him and good for wrestling. If any old fans came back to watch the Rock tonight they might have caught a first glimpse of C.M. Punk, one of the best wrestlers the WWE has to offer. It deserved to headline, but by having that as the lead in to the Rock-cena main event all the returning fans were guaranteed to watch it (as opposed to changing the channel after the Rock's match ended).

I don't see Punk keeping the title for five more months, its not the wrestling world we live in. Plus it would be a lot more fun to see him win a title at Wrestlemania, instead of just keep it.

Pretty much this. While it would be nice to see Punk hold the title for a long time (because as I've said multiple times, I am sick of playing hot potato with the WWE title), if Punk were to lose at say TLC it would provide such a huge feel good moment if he were to regain the title at Wrestlemania rather than go into the big event as the champion. That was the scenario I was initially picturing going into tonight's PPV so I was surprised that Punk won the title already.

Uhm, Mack, Jack-Hammer was saying Del Rio as a main eventer on RAW just didn't work, not the Rock/Cena match.

Anyhow, I'm surprised that Punk got the belt. I figured Del Rio would hold onto it until TLC, but I'm perfectly happy with this. The crowd was certainly into it and the moment Punk got out of the Armbreaker they were going crazy.

I'm happy with CM Punk winning tonight but what's with everyone around here saying his match shoud've went on last? CM Punk wasn't the center of attention of tonight. The Rock is and always will be bigger than CM Punk. Whether The Rock's match was shit or not is a matter of personal opinion, but there's no way in fuck CM Punk will ever sellout MSG that quickly. That's not a knock against Punk but it's damn true; The Rock is and will be more over than CM Punk for the forseeable future. The Rock > CM Punk, that's why his match went on last. Put your markiness aside and accept that.

I'm happy CM Punk won mainly because he said he's planning on making the WWE championship important again and hopefully that means we will be seeing a brand new look/design for the title belt.

And OH by the way, hate WWE's new twitter fuck you down you throatness? Well hello sweetheart you are the victim of that same success. Remember folks behind every independent good idea is a corporate ideal. What made CM punk pop is now profitable.

What the hell was that crap about? Learn to type, dipshit.

Getting back on topic, I'm stoked to have CM Punk the new champ. So many people compare him to Steve Austin, well hopefully this was his coming out party. We've known since the summer that he will eventually be the top face in the company...well maybe that time is now. The WWE is portraying Cena as a complete pussy, and now CM Punk has picked up the ball.

Here's hoping the WWE doesn't screw this up. Keep this title reign long and sweet. Punk says he will make this interesting, and I believe him. Looking forward to it.

i just hope he does what he said he'll do when he gets the title and change it, design wise and reputation wise as THE most prized championship in ALL pro wrestling. im damn glad Del Rio's time with it is over, nothing anybody will remember, like iron shiek in a sense. TAKE THE DAMN BALL AND RUN WITH IT!. MAKE WWE ACTUALLY ENTERTAIN ME FOR THE 1ST TIME IN A LONG TIME!

just saying is all.

The problem a lot of you guys have is you think "I like Punk, he is over, he should be champion". True, the most over guy should have the strap. However, some of you say "now punk will make the title interesting"....couldn't he do that as a challenger? Some big change isn't going to happen just because he has the belt.

I am interested to see how his character acts with the belt since him chasing it is a huge motivation.

As to why it "took so long" for WWE to make Punk their champion, it could be that the company had plans laid out for programs months in advance. When Punk pulled his coup during the Summer, perhaps management told him he would be getting his title run and huge push, but they weren't willing to completely shelve everything else they had planned just to accommodate him......so, they might have told Punk to wait a bit, until Del Rio had his reign, until Del Rio and Cena had their conflict, until Miz & R-Truth established themselves as "spoilers."

Then, it would be Punk's turn to reign.......and here we are.

His push wasn't abandoned, as many on this forum seemed to believe. It was just stalled so as not to sweep everyone and everything out of Punk's way. He's still the hottest property, but other people work here, too.

I am so happy this happened. I wouldn't have minded seeing him lose then winning it at Survivor Series, but it's no big deal. I was just ecstatic when he won it.

Business-wise, you're right. The Rock will always sell out more than CM Punk until Rocky leaves.
But to say "Rock > CM Punk" is kinda an overstatement. The Rock is entertaining on the mic, but why is that? It's because of the catchphrases. Yes he keeps the audience in on it, but it's still because of the catchphrases. Every promo is one catchphrase after another. But CM Punk is just as good on the mic. He draws just as much as emotion. One difference though. He can make each promo week in and week out.
Now in in-ring skills, there's no comparison. While The Rock has had decent brawls back in the day, that's all he had. His good matches were due to good opponents. CM Punk could wrestle Johnny Ace's hair and make it look good. And if you need an example, look at The Rock's Sharpshooter. Not just yesterday's. Any of them even in the AE. They're horrible and barely locked in.
Not being a Punk mark. Because I don't think he's the best in the world as a wrestler. But I know he's way better than The Rock. Once again, going by skill. I know business-wise The Rock is a better choice than Punk. But he doesn't deserve it.

Business-wise is the only way to go. It's not called "the business" for no reason. It's not on the NYSE for no reason. It IS a business and Vince has outlasted everyone else because he treats it like a business and doesn't act like a mark.

You can go "well so and so is better on the mic, but so and so is better in the ring" all day long, fact is, what makes you good at your job as a pro wrestler is your draw ability. The biggest draw goes on last.

By your logic, Jericho vs HHH going on last at WMX8 was a good idea. How'd that work out?

Which is clearly why I said, Business-wise, The Rock is a better choice. I never said his match shouldn't have been last. My comparisons had to do with the OP and Hamlertainment's post.
IMO, CM Punk DESERVES alot more than Dwayne. But I never said he's a bigger draw.
And yes, WMX8 would have went over more if it ended with The Rock and Hogan posing.
