Christian is starting to enter that unfortunate phase where he no longer looks like he belongs in the ring. He was never an intimidating guy, but as he gets older he looks less and less believable in a physical confrontation with these younger guys like Cesaro and Swagger.
I don't know if you've noticed, but pro-wrestling is a magic world where underdogs actually do serve a purpose. For some of us, being intimidating isn't the crux of what makes a pro-wrestler worthy of being in the ring. He gives the crowd the sense that their adoration of him is a major factor in how he finds the courage to continue fighting bigger opponents. It doesn't hurt that a few of us still remember the high-spots he was doing when he helped carry the tag-team division.
And for a guy who was called "Captain Charisma", and was able to overcompensate for his other shortcomings in his mic work, he no longer even SHOWS charisma.
Umm, you mean like he doesn't buy out a billboard for $100,000 saying "CHARISMA!! (brought to you by WWE performer Christian)"? If you don't make us aware of your standard for charisma, then we're left with the mere merit of your word to validate your claims. "Captain Charisma" is a catchy nick-name, not the basis for why I enjoy his matches. He's a sharp performer and he's always been a good sport, Christian was telling his psycho fans to cool it when they freaked over his first brief title reign. For me, that makes him more likeable.
They showed a taped promo of him talking about the EC match, and how he could be the face of the company, and it was hard to watch. He couldn't even bring himself to make it look like he believed what he was saying.
There's more money in a match if everyone involved is 110% positive that they'll be victorious, you already know that. His demeanor was what his fans expect, keep in mind that most of his fans are Canadian. He's gonna' reach for the brass ring and if he doesn't get it then he's thankful for all he's been given, he's playing the part of a class act.
I've never been a "Christian-hater", I've always respected him and think he's been a positive contributor over the years, but I think its time to move on.
Of his positive contributions, you honestly don't see him giving the same level of dedication today? Maybe it's getting redundant for you, and I can understand that. I think his matches are a refreshing change from what normally happens in forgettable main events. I think he should move on as well, but I don't think what he's given recently should be written off as a negative contribution.
I wouldn't be surprised if this will be his last WM.
Oh, no shit? I thought he was going to push another ten years! (sarcasm)
Yeah, umm. I don't think Christian or his fans would be disappointed if this was his last Wrestlemania. I'm thankful that he's still got enough mojo left to save an episode of Raw like he did last Monday. Christian wasn't forced to win the Royal Rumble, he's helping balance the field in an Elimination Chamber match that now has a proportionate amount of "stars" and "wrestlers". He won't win, he might not even get a match at Wrestlemania and he'll be remembered after the fact as a man who played his part to a T and never disappointed his fans.
