Captain Comatose

JoeFromTomsRiver

Championship Contender
Christian is starting to enter that unfortunate phase where he no longer looks like he belongs in the ring. He was never an intimidating guy, but as he gets older he looks less and less believable in a physical confrontation with these younger guys like Cesaro and Swagger.

And for a guy who was called "Captain Charisma", and was able to overcompensate for his other shortcomings in his mic work, he no longer even SHOWS charisma.

They showed a taped promo of him talking about the EC match, and how he could be the face of the company, and it was hard to watch. He couldn't even bring himself to make it look like he believed what he was saying.

I've never been a "Christian-hater", I've always respected him and think he's been a positive contributor over the years, but I think its time to move on.

I wouldn't be surprised if this will be his last WM.

Christian to me has had all his success because of Edge. In the tag team Edge was the better talker, wrestler and was funnier and carried Christian to tag gold. When they went solo Christian was going nowhere and went to TNA when he came back he did nothing major until Edge retired and Christian was made to be the new Edge and use his popularity to guide him to the top. If he didn't have Edge he wouldn't have a single title in his career. He is a veteran who has committed a lot of time to the business and WWE a lot like Lawler, Big Show, Khali, Kane, Cole and other and WWE just needs to be brutally honest with them and say you have had your good long careers and we thank you for your work but its time we move on.

WWE keeps veterans and loyal superstars and announcers around far longer than they deserve to be there. Whether you are like me and don't like Christian or if your a fan you have to be at a stage where you know his time is done and its about time WWE moved on. They have plenty of talent to replace him with so let him have a match at Mania with Edge in his corner then retire

I always liked Christian, but when we think about it, he's been around nearly 20 years in this industry in the upper echelons. He just looks so defeated. His hair is a mussed up. His chest is flabby. His moves are slow and plodding. It was really sad watching him fight last night...

I was never much of a Christian guy myself. I thought he was good on the mic, but his overall gimmick didn't appeal to me much.

He's had a successful career, even if most of it was with Edge. Plus he was a big deal in TNA when it was at it's more popular/successful state.

I never saw him as a heavyweight champion in the WWE though. He was just, I don't know. I can't even put my finger on it. Almost like a watered down version of Edge.

He's only 40 years old. I say only because his body (like laodaron says) doesn't look like that of other 40 year old wrestlers when they were his age. I'm not sure if he doesn't work out as much or what, but his physical appearance and conditioning is pretty bad. Not to mention his face looks like it was tossed in a blender. Even his face "looks" old.

He looks like a beat up guy past his prime who is just trying to get through the rest of his contract so he can finally retire.

His new terrible look could be an upcoming gimmick change. There has been a lot of talk about the "Blue Dot" and with his beat up face and ratty hair it could be on the way.

If he makes it to EC it will most likely be his final moment in the spot light. He will be left off the WM card or at best used in a meaningless role for a multi man spot fest.

Captain Charisma circa 2004 / 2005 was putting on great matches AND was rocking the mic. The barbs that he was shooting Cena's way around that time were incredible and were getting massive heat. Suddenly, Cena's drafted to Raw, and it looks like Christian is his first feud. But then almost just as suddenly, Christian is drafted to Smackdown and the whole matter is forgotten about.

The "draft lottery" infuriated me to no end because not only was it evident that to go to Raw was a promotion, and Smackdown a demotion, but they also would break up good storylines in the process.

Then, Christian left the WWE for the supposedly greener pastures of TNA and that was pretty much all she wrote for Christian's big WWE push (at least til he got the mercy rub courtesy of Edge's retirement.)

Christian's promo that they showed last night ahead of EC was just weak, and he showed none of the "charisma" that he once had.

For my money I'd take Christian over Edge any day of the week.

And I still think he has some of the best matches on weekly TV. Problem is the last year or so he's been plagued with injury. If WWE ever focuses on rebuilding a more competitive mid card I'd say Christan would be a front runner for the championship.

Ok, what? Edge was probably one of the 3 best wrestlers in the WWE at any given time from 2001 until he retired.

Christian is wildly overrated, never should have been a world champ and never should have been a main eventer. I get the fact that they made him champ as a "lifetime achievement award" like they did with Mark Henry, Kane's second run. But he never had it for me.

That said, I don't mind him being around, I like his matches enough, and when he is reliable enough to work every night and be part of storylines there is no reason he shouldn't be a viable midcard player.

He's talented. I just think he needs to get repackaged. I don't even recall hearing a reaction when he comes out to his theme song.

I don't know if you've noticed, but pro-wrestling is a magic world where underdogs actually do serve a purpose. For some of us, being intimidating isn't the crux of what makes a pro-wrestler worthy of being in the ring. He gives the crowd the sense that their adoration of him is a major factor in how he finds the courage to continue fighting bigger opponents. It doesn't hurt that a few of us still remember the high-spots he was doing when he helped carry the tag-team division.

And for a guy who was called "Captain Charisma", and was able to overcompensate for his other shortcomings in his mic work, he no longer even SHOWS charisma.

Umm, you mean like he doesn't buy out a billboard for $100,000 saying "CHARISMA!! (brought to you by WWE performer Christian)"? If you don't make us aware of your standard for charisma, then we're left with the mere merit of your word to validate your claims. "Captain Charisma" is a catchy nick-name, not the basis for why I enjoy his matches. He's a sharp performer and he's always been a good sport, Christian was telling his psycho fans to cool it when they freaked over his first brief title reign. For me, that makes him more likeable.

They showed a taped promo of him talking about the EC match, and how he could be the face of the company, and it was hard to watch. He couldn't even bring himself to make it look like he believed what he was saying.

There's more money in a match if everyone involved is 110% positive that they'll be victorious, you already know that. His demeanor was what his fans expect, keep in mind that most of his fans are Canadian. He's gonna' reach for the brass ring and if he doesn't get it then he's thankful for all he's been given, he's playing the part of a class act.

I've never been a "Christian-hater", I've always respected him and think he's been a positive contributor over the years, but I think its time to move on.

Of his positive contributions, you honestly don't see him giving the same level of dedication today? Maybe it's getting redundant for you, and I can understand that. I think his matches are a refreshing change from what normally happens in forgettable main events. I think he should move on as well, but I don't think what he's given recently should be written off as a negative contribution.

I wouldn't be surprised if this will be his last WM.

Oh, no shit? I thought he was going to push another ten years! (sarcasm)

Yeah, umm. I don't think Christian or his fans would be disappointed if this was his last Wrestlemania. I'm thankful that he's still got enough mojo left to save an episode of Raw like he did last Monday. Christian wasn't forced to win the Royal Rumble, he's helping balance the field in an Elimination Chamber match that now has a proportionate amount of "stars" and "wrestlers". He won't win, he might not even get a match at Wrestlemania and he'll be remembered after the fact as a man who played his part to a T and never disappointed his fans.
