Bullshit about Movies

The Man Who Fell to Earth is mildly entertaining, but truly is nothing special. The only highlight of the film is seeing David Bowie play his usual spaced-out self. Overall though I didn't think it was anything special.

I'd give it the same rating. I thought the writing and direction were average. Linney and Hoffman really saved this film, but, have these two ever sucked in anything that they've done?

:scratchchin:

Nope...Can't think of anything. Linney isn't one of my favorites, but I really can't say she's ever been bad in anything. I really liked her in Kinsey.

Hoffman...Nope...Not bad in anything I've seen anyway...

Don't know why, but I popped in the Halloween remake today. I swear, the Unrated version, with the alternate ending, is soooooo much fucking better than the theatrical version. I still have a lot of problems with some things, but I stick by what I said. And after watching it, a part of me is looking forward to H2 now. I'm going to try and go see it with an open mind and hopefully since Zombie has no expectations to live up to this time around (as in he has complete control), I have faith that it won't turn out to be a giant pile of shit.

Oh, and I'm probably going to see Transformers 2 tomorrow, so I'll let you guys know what I think if I do go.

My parents popped in The International. I played UFC(I watched the movie in theaters).

I like Clive Owen, and he was my main reason for watching it. From what I remember of it, it wasn't great, it was overly obscure, but at least it was different.

I left the movies happy enough.

I can't stand Clive Owen, personally. But Naomi Watts is one of my favorite actresses, so I'll probably check that out once it's on HBO or something like that.

I fucking hate The Butterfly Effect. It's always cited as a great movie by people that think they know about film, but really don't. No offense to you if you like it Norcal.

But god I despise that movie. It's a big steaming pile of shit.

You a Halloween fan as well JMT? I've been obsessed with the franchise since I was a child, I'm actually writing up a post over at the Official Halloween boards right now as we speak. Watched the 4th one myself earlier today, absolutely adore that movie.

whatd you guys think of the Butterfly Effect

Surprisingly, I thought it was awesome. I've had distain for Ashton Kutcher for the longest time now (I still can't stand the dude, to be honest), but man... he was great in that movie. Everyone was, really. Especially the little asshole kid. Not many movie character give me a true urge to really want tp beat the living hell out of them, but the kid in that movie who played Amy Smart's brother when they were 12/13... God I wanted to kill him forreal.

why do you feel that way?

I dont think its particularly great, but its certainley better than most. Creative, if anything.

I'll have to check out Halloween 4 XFear...I usually only ever watch the first in a series, because there's not much they can add after that. They'll throw in some cool ways to kill some one (like Jason smashing the sleeping bag against a tree), but there's nothing fresh about the movie...

:lmao:

I think it's the first time we really disagree.

Hell yeah man. As a kid I remember watching all of them in one week during the summer with my mom. And I've loved the series since. I strongly believe that the first one is not just one of the greatest horror movies of all time, but one of the greatest movies of all time period.

But yeah... the first two, 4, 5 and 6 all remain my favorites and all hold a speical place in my heart.

Oh don't get me wrong NightShift, if you don't enjoy cheesy horror film sequels, I'm sure you won't enjoy Part 4. But if you like nostalgic 80s horror films, Part 4 is a fucking classic. Definately one of the most enjoyable films in the Halloween franchise (but don't watch it expecting it to be really scary or something, it is at heart just a cheesy horror sequel).

The Butterfly Effect just fails on every level IMO. The acting is mediocre to absolutely laughable sometimes, and it's really just an extension on alot of the themes from HG Wells' Time Machine. I mean, I guess it's enjoyable as a trashy flick to watch while drunk or something, but as a sci-fi film it's pure sentimental Hollywood-ized garbage. Doesn't really work as a genre film.

Fuck yes JMT, totally agree on Halloween. The original is possibly my all time favorite film ever except for Blue Velvet. You didn't dig Part 3 though? It gets hated on alot, but it's fucking great.

And yeah I guess this is the first time we've ever disagreed on a movie, lol. I got one for ya, what'd you think of Donnie Darko? That one is always either loved or hated, I won't tell you my thoughts on it until I hear yours.

It's not that I don't enjoy them, i'm just rarely entertained by them. Even now, it's the same thing. I thought Scream was a pretty good slasher, but the rest were god awful. Wrong Turn was even good for what it was, but the second just looks like utter shit...

goodness X, you are just TRYING to pick fights with me tonight.

:lmao: That's right you punk bitch, let's go, I declare fisticuffs!

Nah I guess we just really disagree on Hart and the Butterfly Effect. Too incredibly random things to list side-by-side. We probably agree on most other things though I'm guessing. Are you a big movie guy?

Sidenote: Watched Tobe Hooper's "The Funhouse" tonight. Anyone seen it? Pretty decent 80's horror fare with a great carnival location. One of Hooper's better films.

Oh and I also watched the original Frankenstein. Gotta love the old-school horror, Boris Karloff is a legend. When he throws the little girl into the water it frightens and saddens me every time.

Not as much as you guys, but I have seen a SHIT TON of movies, took three years of film making classes, so I can hold my own id say.

oh, and funhouse rocks my socks. I was monster drunk when i watched it some 8 years ago though

I've decided that tomorrow, I will plant my ass in front of the TV, and watch One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, A Clockwork Orange, and Eyes Wide Shut...Back to back to back. No special reason, and kind of ironic that two are Kubrick, but there really is no reason. I just feel like watching some slightly twisted mind fucks...

Never took any film courses....

I'd like to. In fact, I'd like to study film in college, but that's not very practical.

Eyes Wide Shut is hardcore underrated IMO.

My minor in college was actually film Norcal, thought a long time about trying to be a screenwriter/director before settling for attempting to be a teacher.

I took one film class in high school. It was called Novel & Film. It was all about books made into movies, and vice versa. Probably the best class I took...

I corrected myself on Cuckoo's Nest. I had Kubrick on the brain while writing the sentence...

See, though X, we disagreed starkly on Boogie Nights as well. or...I think that was me and Shango who got into a big slap fight over it...I think you were one of the Bookie Nights zealots though, if I remember right...

Haven't seen Boogie Nights

On a side note I stay away from horror usually. Now that I'm 17, I should probably get past that.

:glare: What's wrong with Boogie Nights??
