Bullshit About Movies, Release Dates, and Box Office (PLEASE READ FIRST POST)

Lots of camera work that looked right into people's faces. I have a large television and was watching the film in HD (or what the cable box told me was HD), and the camera work was simply making me uncomfortable at times. However, when you look past that, this was a great, educational film. The movie frequently had characters ask for things to be explained to them as though they're children, which would surely help put adult material in a language that young learners can easily understand. The film also did a great job reinforcing was I can only assume is the fact that all homosexuals love opera music. Top notch acting, as well. You could feel the sexual tension during the scene in the market.

Just finished Pandorum. I had reservations about this film when I first learned of it and decided to wait before checking it out. So, it finally came to Encore and I watched it and man, am I happy I waited on seeing this movie. I wasn't impressed with it at all.

The story was okay but nothing special. The actors didn't impress, not to mention they killed of Norman Reedus in about three minutes. The only part of the film that I really enjoyed was the descent into madness that Dennis Quaids character went through. It felt as though none of the characters had any substance and weren't built well. I just couldn't connect to any if them and really didn't care what happened to them. I also found the monsters to be cheesy as hell and the CGI they used to be piss poor.

I saw Iron Man 2 earlier today, and I guess I can say I walked of the theater pleased. I liked the first one better, but this one was pretty entertaining also. Robert Downey JR. was even more of a dick as Tony Stark in this film. Still, he did a good job. I also thought Don Cheadle was a great replacement for Terrence Howard as LT. Colonel James Rhodey Rhodes. I found Howard to be boring as this character. Cheadle is a better actor, and he did a better job.

I was kind of disappointed with how Mickey Rourke was used in this film. The trailers led me to believe he was going to be the main villain, and things didn't really go that way, but Rourke still did an awesome job as Ivan Vanko.

Scarlett Johansson was not only hot in this movie, but she also has one awesome fight scene. It's kind of over the top, but it's very fun to watch. The Nick Fury character(Samuel L. Jackson) isn't really explained in depth in this movie, but I guess they're saving all of that for future films. The Pepper Potts character played by Gwyneth Paltrow is one of my favorite characters. Potts is the nerdy and witty friend/business partner of Stark, and Paltrow is a perfect choice for this role.

This movie has tons of action, and flashy fight scenes. One of my problems with this film is, there way too many parts that were just too silly, and some of the jokes were corny, but it if you want to be entertained, then this one of the movies you should see this summer.

Did you stay til the end of the credits? Hehehehe.

I saw it yesterday as well, and I agree with most of what you said. I am not sure it should have been called Iron Man 2 though...without spoiling it, maybe calling it Pre-Avengers would have been better, because that is what it felt like...a lead in to something else coming later. They didn't just tease it like in the first one and The Incredible Hulk, it's fairly blatant.

worth the price of admission though, definitely.

Well I've been anticipating and posting about it on various sites for several months, and I finally got to watch it today.

I was completely blown away.

True, it's obviously not as good as a Hollywood film. There are some problems with acting, dialogue, and lots of Special Effects failures, but the good parts more than make up for it.

The best part of the film, aside from the brilliant references and music use is Dr. Wily. The guy who played him was hilarious and played Wily to a T. He made him sympathetic yet extremely entertaining. The sheer over-the-top-ness fit Wily's character and it was just damn great.

Other acting jobs are inconsistent, but oh well. The CGI is not very good either, but it's a fanmade film, so what do you expect?

The dialogue is good at times, dragging and bad at others.

However, this is easily the best videogame film I have ever seen. Hollywood needs to look at this as an example of a film done right. If Eddie LeBron could get this to Hollywood it could be something special. With good actors (though please don't replace Wily), cleaned up and improved dialogue, and modern CGI, it could be fantastic.

Grade: A

No. The theater I was in was so jam packed, I literally ran out of my seat after the credits started rolling, and I did that just because I didn't want to get caught in the massive crowd. I know what you're talking about. I had to go to Wikipedia just see what that was all about, and yeah, I'm kind of disappointed in myself because I didn't stay all the way to the end of the credits, because I really wanted to see the extra piece of footage. They did the same thing with Iron Man(2008), but I stayed because a friend gave me the heads up about the end of the credits.

I also remember the tease at the end of The Incredible Hulk(which was way better than the first one by the way). They're feeding us pieces of what's to come little by little in each film, and it's driving me crazy.

So, I watched Brothers this weekend, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Toby MaGuire, and Natalie Portman.

I remember it was Xfear who posted the trailer in the old 'Bullshit about Movies' thread in the Bar Room that garnered my interest into seeing this flick in the first place. However, I think I would have enjoyed it much more if I didn't see the trailer. Don't get me wrong, it's still a really good movie, but the trailer basically gives away the entire climax. I fucking HATE when trailers do that. I already knew what was coming, even though I've never seen the movie. Trailers today are basically spoiler filled and it sucks big time, especially for a film like this.

Anyways, it's was still a pretty damn good movie, with TREMENDOUS acting. However, I did not like the ending, at all. I wish it would have gone the "cliche" route and gave us a narrative after the final scene letting us know how the characters ended up (like The Lookout did, for example). Instead, we just sit there, not knowing the fates of the characters and now we'll never know, since this isn't the type of movie to have a sequel. So that sucked, but up until that point it's a very entertaining movie, that completely draws you in for the entire duration of it.

SO yea, IronMan 2 was pretty shit. Fair enough summer movie popcorn fodder, but not nearly as good of a film as the first. Supremely obvious plot, and just not overly impressive in general. Some of the alluding to other areas of Marvel noir were fun, but in general, something I wish I wouldnt have spent the money to see. Wish there was more Rickey Mourke.

My favorite horror movie growing up is Nightmare on El Street. I even used to live on Elm Street and was terrified to fall asleep at night.

So I was excited when the remake came out.

I knew it wouldn't be as good as the original but they couldn't fuck it up that much, could they?

Oh, they did.

Freddy Krueger goes from a child murderer in 8 films to a pedophile in another.
Why on Earth would you turn Freddy freaking Krueger into a pedophile?

I HATE THE REMAKE WITH A PASSION!

I just had to get that off my chest. Thank you.

I was some what pleased with Iron Man 2, but I liked the first one a lot more. This Iron Man film was just too flashy, and even for a Hollywood blockbuster film, I kind of felt this one went way over the top at times, but this is the type of movie the majority people love to see. That's one of the main reasons why it's raking in a ton of money right now. I felt the acting from almost everyone was good, but I really didn't like how Rourke was used in this film. Also, the final showdown was very disappointing.

I just gave Shutter Island roughly two viewing and I have to say I absolutely love it. What's really great about the film is (possible spoilers) how it can be interpreted multiple ways, whilst making the story corroborate with both. This movie definitely merits repeat viewings as you can pick up on cool minute details about the story. This could easily be my favorite movie of the decade, even though it's supposedly not "original" (which nothing is, hardly, in film). The acting was good, the scenery and atmosphere was amazing, and the story had excellent depth. It's a clever, brilliantly made film and although it may have some flaws (such as a predictable ending, which I didn't think it was) is a bona fide thriller form start to finish.

10/10

I went and saw the A-Team movie last night and loved it. It is everything a big budget summer blockbuster should be. I was a little worried about the casting but it worked out very well.

I am not a huge Liam Neeson fan but I feel as though he did a commendable job as Hannibal. Bradley Cooper was funny as Face but also did a good job in the more serious scenes. I was drawn in by my Rampage Jackson love. He was the weak link in the acting but still did a decent job. Sharlto Copley is rapidly rising up my favorite actors list. He was quiet simply hilarious in this movie and was the shining light. Patrick Wilson was tremendous as Lynch and Jessica Biel looked sexy, that's all that really matters right?

The film did a very good job of mixing humor and drama together. It was funny to see how all of the members actually met and formed the A-Team and it was funny to see how crazy Murdoch is, something Copley did a great job with. It really was a very enjoyable film which is saying something considering when I first learned about it I had zero interest in seeing it.

A couple of weeks ago I remember Tdigs was harping on MSN that Pang Ho-Cheung was one of his new favorite filmmakers and that I told him I would check his shit out.

Well the only available movie of his I could find on DVD, Beyond Our Ken, I watched last night and it was fucking AWESOME. Gets a 10/10 from me, without any hesitation whatsoever. I've never seen a film so simplistic, yet pulls you in so deep. And the swerve at the end was great as well, and one I did not see coming at all. Great, great, great movie; can't say it enough.

Definitely going to seek harder for the rest of Pang Ho-Cheung's filmography. If they're all as good as Beyond Our Ken, then he's definitely one of the best filmmakers alive, without a doubt.

Toy Story 3- Very fucking sad. Basically the end of my childhood. I never thought that a Toy Story film would be so sad and depressing but this one was. It really focused more on the drama then the comedy and played up the idea of it being the final film. I enjoyed the movie but my lord was it hard to enjoy because of how depressing it was.

Jonah Hex- The story was rather bland and could have benefited from an extra 30 minutes to help develop the story better. Josh Brolin was really good but Megan Fox sucks as an actress and Will Arnett is completely unbelievable in any non comedy role. The action was good but would have been much better if it had received the R rating so they could have used more blood.

I actually just watched this tonight for the third time and I'm also a huge fan. I wouldn't go so far as calling it one of the best of the decade since we've got a long way to go but I definitely think it's one of the best of 2010 for sure. I'll proceed here in talking the movie up and professing my love, so if you aren't interested in going into it with high expectations, skip this.

I'm legitimately in love with the morbidly beautiful shots Marty has helped put together in this one - the entire lake house flashback has me floored each and every time I watch. I also love the fuck out of the scene where Teddy kicks away the gun with the falling paper. The cast is solid from front to back, principal to supporting, a brilliantly cast ensemble that I have no problems with whatsoever. And can we talk about how kick ass the score is? It's brilliant and works flawlessly in underscoring most of the key scenes including the aforementioned paper scene.

Say what you will about Martin Scorsese but at the very least, the man knows how to put together a fucking movie. This movie feels like one that only a director with his experience and skill could put together. I read a review where someone pointed out the obvious Hitchcockian influence on Shutter Island and that's a huge part of why it's so great to watch (especially if you mark the fuck out for Alfred, as I most certainly do); Marty takes his cues from the master of suspense in crafting this slowly and meticulously to a great payoff and denoument.

It's a film that's not even about the twist being predictable or not, so if you're going into this one specifically to enjoy a wicked twist, I wouldn't bother. You have to let it take you on the journey and allow yourself to come to your own conclusions.

Love it.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas - Just got around to watching this film and it was fantastic. There's only a handful of movies that has elicited the emotion that this movie did. I go so involved with characters, by the time the extremely saddening ending rolled around, I was almost in tears. It showcases the wrongdoings of the Germans during the era of Hitler. Very, very sad movie with great actors, even and especially the children.

It left an afflicting pain in my gut minutes after it was over.

I hope I'm not the only one to have seen this glorious movie. 8/10

What do you guys think of the trailer for Never Let Me Go?

The film is based on Kazuo Ishiguro's novel. I think making a film based on the book presents its difficulties but I'm vaguely interested in seeing it. I like Carey, I hate Keira, and the trailer isn't the most compelling thing they could've thrown together so it might just be something I wait for on DVD.

A trailer that does interest me is the one to Somewhere, Sofia Coppola's latest film starring Stephen Dorff.

It has shades of Lost In Translation in it and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I love Sofia's exploration of relationships and her characters that are struggling with/without fame, so even if it is exactly what it appears to be on the surface, I'm still interested. However, I hope there's a little more to it and it's not just the same old themes we've seen her explore time and time again.

Meh, I was liking what I was seeing until the kids made the transition into young adults. After that the movie just seemed fucking stupid and pointless.

And that's an odd trailer, too. When it first starts with the ball going across the fence and the children afraid to go get it because of a myth, you're thinking this is going to be some kind of horror story. But then it just babbles on about nothing basically.

I have no interest in seeing this at all based on that trailer. Maybe if it gets rave reviews I'll check it out, but for now... I didn't care for that trailer at all.

Looks like a sweet little movie. The trailer didn't give much away, which I think is a great thing.

I agree though it had a Lost in Translation feel to it, and I LOVED Lost in Translation, so if that's the direction Sofia Coppola wants to start taking her movies back in, then that's fine with me, because I thought Marie Antoinette was a real piece of shit.

That said, I'm not a fan of Stephen Dorff, so I'm not too keen with him being the one to carry the movie, but at the same time.... you never know, maybe he'll nail the role out of the park and I'll start to like him. Elle Fanning I feel is loads better than her sister... so I like her in the role. And I just saw on Wiki that fucking Chris Pontius from Jackass has third billing... haha, now that's fucking AWESOME and makes me want to see the movie ever more, lol.

But yeah... this here gets a thumbs up for me. I'll definitely check it out.

Never Let Me Go seems like the type of movie that will be driven by acting. Other than that, I didn't see anything in the trailer that interested me. There's a chance this one could be worth watching, but after viewing the trailer, I have no desire to see this one.

I've only seen one of Sophia Coppola's films (The Virgin Suicides) and I loved it. This film looks like it could be good, and If it's in theaters, then I'll check it out. Somwhere seems to be a feel good movie with a touching story, and Sophia Coppola is behind this one, so it should be good.

I am a huge fanboy of the Predator franchise. So, needless to say I was ecstatic when I first learned of the brand new Predators film. I was also very hesitant, because quiet frankly, I had no idea what to expect. It has been many years since Predator 2 and I really thought they might water the new one down. Thank god Robert Rodriguez got his hands on this film and that Nimrod Antal directed it. I like both men quiet a bit, and thought they did a very nice job.

I expected the cast to consist of relative new comers and was so happy when I learned that both Laurence Fishburne and Adrien Brody signed on to be a part of the film. I was also happy that Walton Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, and Danny Trejo were attached to the film as well. However, I was kind of worried about Topher Grace. Luckily, the cast really clicked for the most part and everyone played their parts well. Even Grace, who made me nervous, did a commendable job. It doesn't hurt that his character plays a nice role in the film. I found the acting surprisingly good and that the characters all worked out.

The Predators had a bit of a strange look to them. I dug the new outfits, especially the one with the badass lower jaw on his mask, which if I wasn't mistaken appeared to be the bottom jaw of an alien, I could be wrong though. The Predators looked badass and came off that way. They were big but unlike the AVP films they were not to big.

There were a few things I didn't enjoy. I could have used with more Laurence Fishburne for one. His character was probably my favorite and I wish we could have learned more or seen more from him. I also wish the beginning of the film flowed a little better. I enjoyed that they started the story immediately but it did seem a bit rushed. I also could have done with some more violence, what can I say, when I think Predator I think lots of blood.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie and think that it was a solid addition to the franchise. I may from now on consider it the true sequel to the original. I liked Predator 2 but Predators was much better. It will be interesting to see how much money this movie brings in and if they make another one.

I juts recently saw Predators, and I did enjoy this film. There was plenty of action, but I kind of wish this one was more blood and gore. Topher Grace surprised me here. I can't stand him, but his nerdy doctor character was very funny, and he did have have some of the best parts in the film. I also wish we could've had more of Fishburne. His character seemed to be very intriguing. I thought Alice Braga did a good job here. Although, I am kind of biased when it comes to her, because she is on of my favorite actresses.

The story wasn't anything complex, but I didn't expect that from a Predators movie anyway. The first Predator film is still my favorite, but I would put Predators(2010) as my #2. I enjoyed this film a lot more than I did any of the AVP films. I just didn't care for them, because both of them were just a huge let down for me. AVP(2004) was rated PG-13. How in the hell can you rate a movie like that PG-13? AVP Requiem was shit. The acting was bad, and I didn't like how they tried to throw in the "wimpy guy going for the hot girl" story. I liked Predator 2, but there was one thing I didn't like about the film. I didn't like how they used an every day cop as the Predator's main foe. The Predator should be going up against other warriors/killers like in the first film and the 2010 version.

I know some members were talking about this movie awhile ago and saying how they were intrigued by it and wanted to see more about it. Well here you guys go, a trailer that consists of more then words and a black screen.

The movie seems very interesting and could be very good. I really like Jesse Eisenberg and think he is a very good young actor. I also like Justin Timberlake a lot as well. I think he is a good actor when given the right roles, like in Alpha Dog. Regardless, I am very interested in The Social Network and want to see it when it is released.

I have to admit I'm intrigued. But it just seems incredibly pretentious to be honest. Might give it a d/l or something but not something I'd pay to see.

Inception, great film, I'm sure y'all will agree. The thing is, I rarely go to watch a movie in theaters. I think the last movie I saw in theaters was, uhh, The Day the Earth Stood Still. Well I decided to mosey out and spend a night on the town, checking out my boy Leo in his super hyped movie, and it didn't disappoint.

Great special effects, intriguing plot, Ellen Page looked good, I wasn't bored at any point, etc. All pluses. I'm not sure if it's the film of the year thus far. What else does it have to compete with, Shutter Island? Regardless, fine work by whoever the hell the director was here.

Yeah it was top class stuff. DiCaprio seems to be working in first gear at the moment and looks effortlessly cool while doing it. There's doubt that that requires some talent to pull off.

He also seems to have a kack to choose great directors and Nolan is clearly on a roll of his own. I thought it was brilliantly written, the effects were great and Levitt may well be a huge star very soon. He certainly didn't do any harm to put his case forward for appearing in the next Batman film.
