Bullshit About Movies, Release Dates, and Box Office (PLEASE READ FIRST POST)

The Animatrix is actually set between The Matrix and the shitty sequels, and is lightyears better than the sequels.

Eh, well maybe I'll give it a shot one day.

Shame you don't like anime. There are some great shows out there, like Death Note for those who like mysteries and Monster for something very deep and mature.

I actually have the live-action Death Note DVD sitting right over my shoulder, waiting to be watched. I'm a pretty big fan of the actor Tatsuya Fujiwara from Battle Royale, and wanted to check it out just because of him (plus, I have yet to see a live-action Japanese movie based on a manga that wasn't awesome). I'll let you know what I think when I watch it in a couple of days.

How is Kung Fu Hustle? I acquired it the other day. I know tdigle told me to download a different movie when I asked him, but I'd rather like opinions on this one. Killjoy says it's good as do a few others...

It's a bit overrated in my opinion, but still enjoyable.

And Tdigs recommended you Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky. Make sure you check that bad boy out when you get the chance. It'll be one of the funnest experiences you'll ever have watching a movie.

I'm just curious if anyone has seen a movie called Tokyo Gore Police i saw it at the video store and it looked kind of cool but i worried it might be really crappy so if someone can tell me if it's any good b4 i go out and rent it i would appreciate it.

The Death Note live action movie was great. I got it for Christmas last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very faithful in tone to the manga/anime. Heck, even the English audio track was really well done when I watched it to compare. I haven't seen the sequel yet, though. I hear it deviates from the anime.

If you enjoy the movie be sure to give the anime or manga a shot. I personally prefer the manga but the art style of the anime is nice and it is cool seeing my favorite scenes animated. I feel they went a little too over the top in it though like in the now infamous potato chip scene.

I finally watched Avatar tonight and I wasn't disappointed. The visuals are amazing and watching it in 3D is a great treat. The story also wasn't too bad and the actors in the movie were also good. I believe that what makes this movie so special is the visual aspect and I don't think too many people would disagree with me. The native people were great looking, but the best visuals were of the forest. The forest was beautiful and seeing it at night when the plants began to glow was quite a sight to see, very stunning. The story was also good and keep me interested, which is important because it was a long movie. The actors did a great job of making you care about the natives and their land and culture. Overall, Avatar was a visually stunning movie with a good story and good acting.

I saw Wolfman earlier today, very interesting film. I worried about how it would turn out considering I have anticipated it for damn near a year. In addition, Benicio Del Toro happens to be one of my favorite actors in the business today. It was a very good monster movie which made me happy.

The CGI was top notch and the scenes where Benicio would go from being a human to a werewolf were done very well. It looked extremely good, realistic? no. Good? yes. Also, the werewolf's looked exactly as a think they should. Less like wolfs and more of a mix of both.

The script was well done, however the movie did drag on at times. Del Toro was excellent in the roll of the werewolf and Anthony Hopkins was the best I have seen him since he played Hannibal Lector. It was nice to see him in a role like this again, I won't give away any spoilers however. Hugo Weaving continues to impress me and Emily Blunt was as beautiful as ever, John Krasinski is a lucky man.

Overall everything was done very well. Not movie of the year material but a damn fine horror/creature feature/monster movie. I give it the INDYjon22 seal of approval. 8/10. My rating may go down once I view it again months from now.

I am also watching Reservoir Dogs right now, which I have not done in damn near a year. It reminds me why this movie is my favorite Tarantino film. I would gladly take Reservoir Dogs over anything else Tarantino has done.

Well, jmt, tdigs, you were right. I watched Riki-Oh yesterday and it was just hilarious. It's definitely the kind of movie I'd love to watch with a big group of friends, cracking jokes and laughing/cringing the whole time. It was just so violent and over-the-top, and the dubbing was so bad, it was awesome. I think we should somehow plan a WZ movie night with that movie, and do an LD. A ton of fun.

I had the chance to finally watch a movie that i have heard good things about and that movie is Ghost World and it did not disappoint what an amazing movie i loved it. It stars Thora Birch, Scarlett Johanson, and Steve Buscemi and they were all really good in this movie especially Buscemi who is one of my all time favorite actors. It is a really funny movie i love how sarcastic the characters are i can really relate with them i found Buscemi cracking me up all the time.

This movie also has a dramatic side to it and it is just as good as the comedic parts they did a good job of balancing out the comedic and dramatic side. If you haven't seen this movie yet i really encourage you to go out and rent it right now you won't be disappointed i give this movie a 9 out of 10

Yes, yes... AWESOME movie. Perhaps my 2nd favorite comic book film of all time, right behind Batman Begins.

Steve Buscemi, like usual, completely stole the show in this one and in my opinion, Ghost World is his greatest performance to dat. Give a lot of people that exact role, and you'll end up disgusted with that character, but Buscemi was actually able to get the audience gain sympathy for him and his situation. He made you want this guy to find happiness. Not many people could have pulled that off, but he did so, and it was completely believable with Buscemi at that character. The way he looked, first of all is key, but also how he talked, carried himself, and reacted to certain situations... the guy was one creepy and pathetic fuck, but Buscemi was still able to make us adore him and root for him. Awesome, awesome performance.

But honestly... everybody was great in this movie. Thora Birch (What the fuck ever happen to her, anyway?), Scarlett Johansson, my main man Brad Renfro.... everyone. Great movie. I need to watch it again, come to think of it.

.

Well, Valentine's Day weekend is up next, and there's three films of note opening up: Valentine's Day, The Wolfman, and Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Personally, I find this quite amusing, as these films respectively appeal to the following demographics: sad, single women who can't get dates for Valentine's Day; men who would rather play video games than hear a woman talk; and jaded, married couples taking their Ritalin-dosed brats to the movies before they go back home, watch Dateline, and call it a night without so much as a kiss.

Taken together, these three types of people could be considered America's romantically challenged. Isn't it ironic that the most romantic weekend of the year should call them out to the theaters?

I loved this. When I took my GF to go see Legion a couple weeks back (shit, btw) We saw advertisements for both the V-Day movie and Wolfman. I leaned over to my girl and said "That is awesome. The first movie is for girls who have no date, and couples were the guy is pussywhipped, and the second is for girls who HAVE a date...Guess which one you will be at...."

I also, found the irony in those releases. Shame, as I have read that Wolfman is shit. I had pretty high expectations. Ill probably still give it a go when I get a chance.

I finally got off my ass and sat down to watch some movies. Oh the irony.

Anyways, you know all those movies that you hear Tdigle and JMT talk about with their big brains and well experienced eyes? I have seen none of those particular movies. So I figured, right, it's about time I do something about it. So I started with:

Cidade De Deus or City of God

Yeah, I loved it. Everything about it was great, from the characters to the setting to the story. Lil Ze was a great villain, and the scene where he forces his protege Steak and Fries to shoot one of the runts is so intense, it's just excellent. I've heard it compared as the Brazilian Goodfellas, but I think this is better personally. I don't know how much more you want me to say. It was a great movie.

Oldboy

It was cool. My second foreign film and it was excellent.

I actually looked up some reviews on the net just to see the response it got from critics. Most were positive, as they should be, because Oldboy hits you like a runaway train to the temple and keeps going. I was happy that my opinion ws shared. Until I got to:

Scott Foundas of the LA weekly.

Put simply, in my humble opinion, Oldboy sucks.

Put simply Scott Foundass, in my humble opinion, fuck you.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Ah Gondry. Yes, I havent seen it, gimme a break. I definitely am a fan of Michael Gondry's work, even if Science of Sleep and Be Kind, Rewind weren't everyone tastes. His flair is just so weird and out there that its hard not to be drawn to it, and this is such a great story and such a great film. I was also impressed by Carrey's performance. I wasn't exactly expecting Ace Ventura, but he still impressed me with how normal he could be, without going over the top. So..cool.

Eh, numbers are pretty much as I expected them. Some may see The Wolfman's numbers as less-than-stellar, but we need to face facts here: Benicio Del Toro is not a box office draw, and the only way this film could have had a $60+ million opening is if it opened the summer blockbuster season. So, Avatar's looking like it's going to hit the $700 million domestic mark before it ends its run...cool.

In other news, Shutter Island opens up next weekend. Also, I think some really shitty-looking cop comedy with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan is coming out next weekend...actually, I just looked it up and it's not coming out until the weekend after this upcoming one (sorry, I already forgot the movie's title).

I just saw a really good Karate movie tonight it's a movie called Chocolate i really enjoyed this movie a bunch. It's a story about a girl who is autistic and she is always watching Karate movies and learns all the moves just from watching them done on the movies i know it sound like a weird premise but trust me it works really well.

This movie has some of the best action sequences and karate scenes i have ever seen in a karate movie. So if you are a fan of karate movies like i am then you should really check this movie out you won't regret it i would give this movie a 9/10 so everyone do yourself a favor and go watch this movie.

So, I saw Milos Forman's Amadeus two nights ago, and I have come to the conclusion that it's the greatest English-speaking film ever. Fellow cinephile cookie believes that Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver is the greatest English-speaking film ever and, as I think Taxi Driver is one of the greatest films ever made, she made me think long and hard about why I rank Amadeus ahead of Taxi Driver. Well, they're both expertly directed, well-written, and perfectly added. BUT, in my opinion, the one thing Amadeus has over Taxi Driver is that it's much easier to relate to. Although I'm sure some of us have a obsessive need to be needed, I am also sure all of us, at one point or another, have seethed at fate's cruel and unjust distribution of genius and talent.

Got to see the movie Shutter Island last night and I've got to say, I was really impressed with this film. It started off a little climatic, only to slow down for the most of the beginning sequences and slowly build up as per usual. The entire movie was made via a "Cut the Bullshit out of the scenes" essence where only the important bits mattered were placed on film. Leonardo's performance in this movie was spectacular as well and played the role perfectly.

It's not so much Horror as some have anticipated it to be, but more of a Thriller if anything... and I stress if anything. It's basically one of those films that requires you to be on the ball at all times as you have to use your memory and psychological knowledge to keep up, and if you're good enough, solve the mystery before the end reveals it. Some moments throughout the film are really disturbing images where some may not be able to handle it, so I definitely suggest viewer discretion here.

Good solid movie and plot that ties well in the end, which is what makes the entire movie interesting.

I have to disagree with you on Shutter Island i just got home from seeing it and it wasn't that good it was ok but not good. Some of the scenes were kind of stupid and had me rolling my eyes and others in the theater even chuckled at them. Dicaprio was good but he was the only bright spot of the film no one else was that impressive. Alot of the movie was boring and repetitive. I could follow everything in the movie and never got confused and still didn't enjoy it. If you have ever seen another thriller movie then you will figure out the ending to this one half way through. If you are wanting to see this movie i suggest that you wait until it comes to DVD i give it a 6/10.

I watched a shitty little thriller/horror movie last night called Captivity. Some of you may remember or know of it. It starred Elisha Cuthbert who is absolutely beautiful. I remember seeing trailers for it years ago when I was younger and wanting to see it because it looked like Saw. Never got around to it until last night when I saw it for free on Fear net. Absolutely garbage, to say the least.

The film was just put together rather poorly. Cuthbert was decent in it for a B or even C level film. Other then her though the acting was rather bad. Lots of glaring plot holes and just ridiculous moments. It did have its moments of surprise however, such as the scene with the dog, I will not spoil it but for those of you who have seen it then I figure you know what I mean. Very predictable film, if you have seen one thriller then you have seen this one, just like FT75 said above me.

Overall I would give it a 4/10. Not worth buying or renting but if you can see it for free then go for it. At the very least you will get a chuckle out of how poor it is.

I saw that film a while back...pretty shitty. Incidentally, did you see this on FEARnet? I was just going to bring up a little low-budget gem called Dead End that's currently available on there. It's by no means one of the greatest horror films ever made, but it's very suspenseful and creepy. It was 10 times the horror film Paranormal Activity was, but, unfortunately, it doesn't have the faux-cinema verite thing going for it.

Also, I finally saw Timecrimes tonight, a decent time travel thriller from...somewhere in Latin America or the Iberian Peninsula (I wish I could tell you which one, but I saw the dubbed version). It's a lot, LOT less convoluted than Primer, and much more stylish, so, if you're looking for a mindless time travel thriller, check this one out (Primer's still the tits, though).

Yeah, I did watch Captivity on FEARnet and saw that Dead End was offered as well. I just learned I have FEARnet so it will be taking over my life now. I will make sure to check out Dead End while it's on there even though I hated Paranormal Activity. Anything that is "better" then it I will give a chance.

Even that rating's being considerate. Elisha Cuthbert, like you said, is hot as hell and made it worth watching, but man the writing couldn't have been worse. Nothing made sense, and you could see the "twist" from a mile away.

Captivity actually had potential, but it didn't go balls out like it should have. Instead it was just typical mainstream Hollywood horror crap.

My thoughts exactly, it had all the potential in the world especially coming off the heels of Saw but man oh man did the filmmakers drop the ball. I give it credit for the dog scene though, that got me a little bit, probably since I have trouble with anything involving animals in a bad situation. Cuthbert alone was worth the watch, I really wish she was in more movies.

I would have to say that the reason why I enjoyed the movie is because the field of psychology and all of it's aspects have attracted me for quite some time. Considering the entire film is psychologically based, I was able to immerse myself into the film. The cinema audience we had did let out a few laughs here and there, but I did enjoy it.

I'd give it a 8/10 for a review as I have seen better movies, but this was well done for how the story-line went... but I'd concur that others might want to wait until it comes out as a DVD or something. Like I said, it's a great movie. But you probably have to be as interested in psychology as I am.

Honestly, she's quite a terrible actress. She needs to go ahead and do some nude scenes while she's still hot, otherwise she serves no other purpose. But, I guess she think she's this wonderful talent, which is why she only takes leading roles. Bullshit. The only leading role she's ever been in that was any good was The Girl Next Door; the rest of them absolutely suck (The Quiet was watchable, but still not very good).

She's best served as the chick with a supporting role who serves no other purpose than showing her boobs. That's the most she could ever contribute to this World; it's time for her to go for it.

She is a shitty actress, no doubt about it, but I meant more of a she needs to be in more movies because she is so hot. Nude scenes are a must since I don't take any actress seriously until I see their breasts. The Girl Next Door was a solid movie more because of Emile Hirsche then anything else. I also enjoyed her in Wax House, but once again she was overshadowed by Paris Hilton getting a large pipe through the head, one of my personal favorite kill scenes ever.

She and Eliza Dushku just need to have a Wild Things-esqu make out/nude scene and all the world will be a better place.

Captivity is one of the most shit movies ive ever seen. Just fucking incredibly stupifyingly bad. There was absolute nothing clever about it, just "look at how FUCKED UP THIIIS IS EVERYONE!!! LOOK!!! ZOMG ARENT YOU SCARED!!!!"

Ansolutely terrible. The dick shot at the end pretty much is a fitting climax for the movie. Just stupid, and unecessary, and unimaginative.

I saw Dear John. I write for my high school's newspaper so I had to watch this to do a movie review for it. My schoolmates loved this movie and most of them said it made them cry. A lot of people said I hated this movie simply because I'm a guy, which I don't think is true considering that fact that I've seen other movies based on Nicholas Sparks novels like A Walk to Remember which I considered decent.

Dear John was a bore. My schoolmates were telling me constantly prior to me watching this movie that I would cry. Well I was bored to tears so I guess that technically means I cried. The overall plot was so cheesy and unbelievable... I had a hard time grasping the concept of the two main characters falling for each other in the time it takes you to read my post. The movie would've been decent if it actually went somewhere but it didn't. After the movie was over, I really cried because then I realized that the movie cost me $10.50 (I was too late for the matinee showing).
