Bullshit About Movies, Release Dates, and Box Office (PLEASE READ FIRST POST)

I never came all over it, not like you did and do. I enjoyed the visuals and thought Butler was a badass, which is still true on both accounts. I have just gradually lost interest in the story and all the hype people give it. Remember I am the guy who refused to watch Taken for 2 or 3 years because people talked about it to much. However, you are correct that it is interesting how I did go from once enjoying it to now not even being able to sit through it.

I recommend The Black Irish. It really was a pleasant surprise.

I don't know maybe you became a movie snob but you did love that movie when it came out and if you say you didn't then you are lying your ass off not every movie has to have the worlds greatest acting to be a good movie and the story was good it was about overcoming great odds. You should check out Bronson though you might really enjoy it the star of the movie did an amazing job i thought.

I am not saying I didn't like it or that it wasn't good. To be honest it was good for what it was worth. It is an entertaining action movie but the story does absolutely nothing for me and you arguing that it was a "good" story does not change the fact that I think it was "bad".

Bronson does sound interesting. I will get around to seeing sometime.

You guys seen the trailers for the Nightmare on Elm Street remake? I am not particularly impressed with any of it. I don't like how Freddy looks, I don't like him having an english accent, and the film looks like another "chicks with huge boobs and no acting ability get naked and get slaughtered" Micheal Bay shitfest. I am very very dismayed with what I have seen so far.

Has anyone else seen this? Thoughts please? Tell me im not the only guy interested....

I'll have the Coming Attractions thread up soon, and this will be one of the films covered. From the trailer, it looks like it's going to be a major disappointment. They brought in a music video director named Samuel Bayer to make this reboot, and I don't think they could have made a poorer choice. Directors with proven track records were brought in for the Halloween and Friday the 13th reboots, so I don't see why they couldn't have done the same thing for this film.

It looks interesting. I don't hate the new guy who is playing Krueger but it will definitely take some getting used to. I am also unimpressed with that shots I have seen of Krueger's appearance but I will withhold judgment until I see it. My main issue is that Michael Bay is doing it and I have a serious problem with all of his films. I will give it a chance but with Bay attached and all the changes I really think it could fall flat, then again it could be really good. Who knows.

Lol come on man, you know god damnw ell I'm interested being the resident horror fanatic here (and I'll fight anyone for that honor). Jackie Earle Haley looks to actually be a pretty decent choice for Freddy, obviously he'll never be able to fill the shoes of Robert Englund, but the trailer gave me hope. I am however a bit skeptical, simply because Platinum Dunes can only seem to remake pure slasher films to good results, any time they tackle something more psychological (like Nightmare is), they don't do very well. Anyone seen the Hitcher remake they did? One of the worst god damn movies I've ever seen in my entire life, bar none.

I'll absolutely be seeing it the minute it comes out Norcal, and I'll type up some lengthy and rambling review no doubt, don't you worry about that m'boy.

If I have the day off, ill go see it opening night. I do not hold very high hope at ALL though. That trailer pretty much killed any that I had. I agree Earle Haley looks to do a fine job, but it is looking like just another glossy, empty, cliched, no substance shit brick out of Micheal Bay and the rest of the fucktards who do this shit in Hollywood. No high hopes at all.

I just finished the second Death Note movie, The Last Name.

The easiest way I could describe it is: HOLY SHIT.

There were a ton of twists and turns. It deviated a lot from the manga/anime, so when the Reveals came I was very surprised. The second movie is just as good as the first, easy. It has more plots, more suspense, more bondage, more everything.

JMT, Scotty, Barbosa, anyone else who's seen the first...go watch the second. Right. Now.

Everything he said plus more. This was probably the best sequel that I may have ever seen. Everything about this movie was near perfect in my eyes. As I said before, I am not by any means a fan of foreign film but I can guarantee you that this is one series of foreign film that I will purchase. I really do recommend just about anyone (who doesn't mind either dubbed or reading subtitles) to watch this movie. I am honestly having a hard time trying to find something wrong with this movie and the best that I can come up with is that when the Shinigami's speak their subtitles you have to slightly strain to read.

So i just got back from seeing Alice In Wonderland and i have to say that i enjoyed the movie Johnny Depp as usual was great no suprise their and Helena Bonham Carter was also did a very good job as well the girl who played Alice was OK but not great. The movie had really good visuals and i also have to say that the makeup and outfits for the characters were really well done also. And the story wasn't half bad either but it wasn't the strongest part of the movie.

I would have to say that this movie is definitely worth going to see at the movies it was very enjoyable and i felt the length of the movie was just right i will give this movie a 8/10.

So, another Johnny Depp/Tim Burton collaboration makes a shit ton of money at the box office. There's really not much to say here. Oh, one thing: no matter how many times Depp and Burton team up, nothing will ever beat Edward Scissorhands.

I apologize for this box office report being so late. I promise to get them in by Tuesdays at the latest from this point on. Also, I apologize for so little analysis, but I'm psyched about the Coming Attractions thread that I'll be putting up in just a wee bit!

tdigle out.

I watched Up In The Air last night and i have to say that i really enjoyed it i didn't have super high hopes because IndyJon said it was the most overrated movie of the year but i would disagree. I enjoyed the movie i thought the movie was well acted by everybody including George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, and Anna Kendrick i also enjoyed the story and from the previews i didn't think i would but i did and i also laughed a couple of times and the movie isn't a comedy.

Now that i have seen this movie i would have to say that i enjoyed this movie more then i enjoyed the movie that ended up winning best picture The Hurt Locker which i actually thought was a little overrated. So i would have to recommend Up In The Air to everybody it's a very good movie i give it a 8.5/10

I never said the acting in Up in the Air was bad. In fact I completely agree. Every major character in the movie did a superb job, especially George Clooney. They all fit their characters to perfection. However, there is just something about Up in the Air. I think Tdigs could and will say it better but it just screams "Give me the fucking Oscar and get the fuck out of here." Jason Reitman wrote it with the sole purpose of winning an Oscar, which is not a bad thing in any way. Also when I put it up against Thank You for Smoking or Juno I would much rather watch them instead. It isn't a bad movie at all but was it the best? No fucking way. I would give it a 7/10 and say go ahead and watch it cause it's good but when did it deserve to get nominated for 6 Oscars? No, I do not think so.

I never said that u said the acting was bad all i said was that you thought it was an overrated movie and then i gave my opinion on why it is a good movie and so fucking what if he wrote it to win an oscar which i've never heard but even if he did who cares i mean so it's a negative to write a movie with the hopes that it's an oscar worthy film that makes no sense. So if you write a movie with oscar aspirations then it's not as good and it shouldn't win an oscar that makes a lot of sense and just because Tdigs say it's not good or doesn't deserve to win an oscar doesn't make it true and it was a better movie then Thank You For Smoking. And how does this movie scream give me an oscar i doubt you can even explain why.

This movie has what it takes to be an Oscar worthy movie and it deserved it's oscar nominations and it was better then The Hurt Locker which is an overrated and boring movie and when i watched Up In The Air i never got bored and the acting was far better then The Hurt Locker so in my opinion it's a good movie and it's not overrated.

Wow, you managed to take everything I said way out of context and way to personally. I admit it was a good film but I also believe it is very overrated. I can see why some people would like and personally I did not. If you had actually read anything I said then you would notice I said people should watch it. Also, you get so pissy yet your attacking my personal opinion. That is stupid seeing as it is my opinion and I am entitled to my opinion as much as you are.

No he should not be condemned for writing a film strictly for the purpose of winning an Oscar, another thing that you either overlooked or just did not read. I think any filmmaker should strive for an Oscar worthy movie but I don't think they should make it as blatant as Reitman does. Dis it deserve a Best Picture nomination? Sure, but I totally disagree that it deserved to win or that it was better then Hurt Locker. I get the feeling you didn't see all the subtle and brilliant things the Hurt Locker did such as the way it used sound. Oh well, that's neither here nor there. Once again I don't really care because your entitled to your opinion.

Here's my biggest problem with Up In The Air: Reitman has no clue about the absolute dread and uncertainty that come with being laid off. He takes as his context something that is much more terrifying than not being able to find your soulmate. Thoroughly searching for the person you want to share your life with is really only something that's available to those who are financially secure. To treat this as a problem that everyone faces through the story of a man who lays off people for a living shows how ignorant and pampered Reitman truly is.

Okay, so as I made clear in the American Remake thread, I watched Death Note 2 yesterday. However, it's hard to look at it as a sequel since it was shot with the predecessor back-to-back, so it's more of a continuation, which to me, makes Death Note basically just a REALLY long film.

That said, man is it absolutely brilliant. I cannot stress it enough. I won't overdue it like Doc ( ;) ), but if you have the means to check this out, do so immediately. However, if you haven't seen it, don't read any further, because I want to mention to the people who have already seen it just how unbelievably fantastic the ending of this movie was, which had one of the darkest, most powerful conclusions of any film I've ever seen.

Despite Light becoming the devil he did, his defeat and death were both still very powerful and heartbreaking, particularly because of his interactions with his father. L's death scene was even more moving, just dying right there, all alone, playing chess with himself, eating candy, with a picture Watari right next to him. That's how he wanted to go, and he got his wish. And then of course there's Misa, who has only something like 10 years to live because of the Death Note and her love for Light, yet she doesn't even know it.

Now, this is what makes it all brilliant. Think about this guys... why did all this happened? Why did so many lives end? Why did so many lives get ruined? Scroll down for the answer...

Because Ryuk was bored and thought it would be amusing to give a person a Death Note and view the consequences. All this happened for the entertainment of a God of Death. Nothing more. And he got what he wanted. Ryuk was truly the only 'winner' in the film, and would have been no matter what happened.

Anyways, I haven't received Death Note 3 in the mail yet, but when I do, I'll watch it immediately and let you guys know how it turns out. All I know about it is that it's based around L's last days on Earth, and it also focuses heavily on his past. However, a different director did this film, so who knows how it turns out. But I'll make sure to let you guys know if it's gets the jmt recommendation or not.

Okay, so I watched Death Note 3: L Change the World.... unfortunately, I didn't like it at all.

L was L, and that was cool, but the plot was fucking stupid as all hell (typical virus is going to wipe out the Earth bullcrap), and as weird as it is to say this, but also the movie was completely unrealistic. No matter how far fetched the first two Death Note films are, this here was just beyond ridiculous. Not even L, one of the most awesome and well played characters I've ever seen put to film, could save this piece of shit. It's worth seeing just to see it if you're a fan of the other two movies, but I do not in no way look at it as truly apart of the first two Death Note films.

Anyways, in other news, I'll finally watch Funny People later today. Tdigs has bugged me about seeing this for a long while now, and I finally got my hands on it. I'll let him and everyone else know what I think of it later on.

I just saw Shutter Island, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The plot was slightly confusing at times but tied it together brilliantly. It was very suspenseful and exciting, and Leonardo DiCaprio put on another great performance.

I'm currently in the middle of One flew over the cuckoo's nest based on my mam's recommendation, and I'm digging it so far. I'm about a quarter way through.

Also, Amadeus was on Sky Movies yesterday and based on tdigle calling it the greatest english speaking movie ever, I decided to record it. Still haven't watched it yet, but it's the director's cut, and is almost 3 hours long. I'm still looking forward to it though

Oh pshhh. "Overdoing it". What can I say? I'm a Death Note mark. ;)

Well, it's too bad to hear that the third isn't very good. At least the first two make up for it. And as for your realization...just awesome. That realization is part of the reason I love the series so much. When it hit me, I was stunned. And then I laughed. It's so sick and yet awesome.

Since you liked the movies, I definitely want to recommend checking out the anime or manga if you have time to watch/read it all. There are many differences, and it's quite interesting.

I don't really have any movies I want to watch right now. I may crawl through my videotapes and pick one to watch tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to seeing Clash of the Titans when it comes out.

I stumbled upon a fantastic little horror movie called One Eyed Monster. I hope you guys know your sexual innuendos because the killer in this one happens to be a penis. I am not making any of this up and to its credit the penis is no ordinary penis, it is the penis of the legendary Ron Jeremy.

Words cannot describe this film well enough. It is something you have to see to believe. It is one of those movies that is so bad it is almost good. The acting is terrible but it is made up for with the over the top and ridiculous dialogue and kill scenes. Any fan of cheesy horror flicks must check this one out sometime.

I just finished watching the Virgin Suicides, and I must say it was a pretty good movie. It's written and directed by Sofia Coppola (the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola). This movie is about five girls who have VERY strict parents, and are pretty much shut out from the real world. James Woods does an amazing job in this movie, and so do the five girls. We also see some pretty good acting from Kirsten Dunst and Josh Hartnett. By the way, this movie has to have one of the most fucked up endings I have ever seen.

I also watched The Wicker man with Nicholas Cage. This was actually a pretty decent movie. I'm surprised to say this because most of the films Cage has been doing over the past 4 or 5 years have been horrible. Cage plays a cop who goes to an Island to help find his ex-wife's missing daughter. This movie has a solid story, and a good twist at the end.

Really Indyjon? You were actually able to watch this movie? I think I saw this on tv last night when I was browsing through the channels. I really tried to watch this, but after about 15 minutes, I just couldn't take anymore of it. Please tell me how you were able to sit through this?

Trust me man, I am as surprised as you that I actually managed to sit through it the entire time. My best guess as to why is because I had some buddies over and neither of them said change the channel. I also have this love for watching terrible movies such as these and this one does not disappoint when it comes to stupidity. I don't think I will ever watch it again or even go out of my way to see it for free but if someone likes terrible yet funny movies this movie embodies it.

I understand where you're coming from. A while ago I was at a friend's house, he had some other people over, and they were watching Zombie Strippers. Mainly because I didn't want to be rude(he invited me over), I decided to stay and watch this movie. This was a terrible, terrible movie. I see how they were trying to go for the camp style/B movie, but it just didn't work. It wasn't funny, and it wasn't entertaining at all. The only reason why my friend and his friends were into this movie was because Jenna Jameson was in it.

I actually just wrote about Zombie Strippers on here not that long ago. It was a terrible, terrible movie, that literally made my head hurt. Nowhere in its incoherent rambling did it make any sort of sense, not that it was suppose to to begin with. I hated every minute of watching it and will never do so again. It was poor for even a C level, cheesy horror movie.

Just so I can chime in before someone else does...If you enjoyed that, you absolutely need to see the 1973 original. It's miles better than the Nic Cage version, which changed many important parts. The twist at the end of the original is ranked by some as one of the best.
