Benjamin is terrible

HypnotizedHero2010

Pre-Show Stalwart
i know he is athletic as hell but that is not enough in the wwe. the segment with he and ryder was terrible and it was all because of benjamin. ryder is great and they could have some decent matches but benjamin is just terrible on the mic. no charisma, no entertainment value. y did they have a sing off?? y did benjamin not just come out and attack ryder instead? they really put benjamin on the spot and he did not deliver.

will this feud save benjamin or is he just not good enough?

What show were you watching?! The Benjamin segment was the best part of the entire show. Seriously, I'm really getting sick of all this hatred on Shelton. Unless a guy is The Rock on the mic, you guys all think they suck. Benjamin is PERFECTLY FINE on the mic, and the crowd LOVED that opening segment. The sing-off and the "smurf you" bits were funny as hell and the crowd loved it.

Seriously, how is Shelton any worse on the mic than a guy like John Morrison? I don't get you people. Shelton's not exactly Hogan when it comes to charisma, but the guy is more than capable of holding down a main event spot on ECW, and has proven that time and time again.

It's like unless the guy is a fucking god on the microphone, you guys think he sucks. Well guess what: not every wrestler has to be built to be a world champion. Shelton is doing perfectly fine. Who else deserves his spot on ECW? Chavo? Goldust? Seriously, name me someone who would better fill Shelton's current role on ECW.

The crowd LOVED that segment last night. I completely fail to see how that promo "sucked".

Besides, contrary to what many of you seem to think, you really don't need mic skills to be successful. Chris Benoit proved that.

Actually, I disagree. That promo with Washington and Ryder was one of the best I've seen any of them do They were really on form last night, even Benjamin. I was laughing extremely hard when he started "swearing" at Ryder and Washington.

It seems they're building Benjamin up to be a face. His promo last night was certainly not terrible and was a good start to plant seeds for a face turn. I must totally disagree with you.

They had a sing-off because it was funny. The whole segment was funny, and I mean properly funny. It wasn't Hornswoggle beating Chavo funny, it was Jericho's 1004 Holds funny. That may be putting it up a little too much, but you get my drift.

Benjamin is certainly not the worst mic worker ever. He's adequate, and in last night's segment he was good. I bet if he takes a few lessons ands works a bit, he can become consistently good on the mic.

I got nothing against Benjamin but how exactly did the crowd LOVE that segment. It got a good reaction with Ryder at first, until the sing off following with This is Boring chants. Shelton should of just came out there said a few words and beat down Ryder. I know he's not the Rock but Jesus he doesn't need to act like a third rate stand up comedian. Too much comedy and not enough aggression with this promo.

This is how:

The crowd was totally into that segment, at several different moments they cheered, they booed, they laughed. That segment certainly got the crowd involved.

Again, unless it's The Rock or Stone Cold blowing the roof off of the building, you guys think it's shit. The crowd was more into that segment than anything on ECW in months.

It got a good reaction with Ryder at first, until the sing off following with This is Boring chants.

I've just watched that video three different times. Not once do I hear a "This is Boring" chant. Not once.

Shelton should of just came out there said a few words and beat down Ryder. I know he's not the Rock but Jesus he doesn't need to act like a third rate stand up comedian. Too much comedy and not enough aggression with this promo.

I don't get you people. Every one of you shits all over Benjamin for YEARS for acting too serious, that's all I heard about. Now he's doing some comedy bits and that's not good enough either?

The crowd enjoyed the segment. Deal with it.

Benjamin was just fine with Ryder. How much did Ryder and Abraham Washington help Shelton throughout the segment is debatable. But the scene was fine, everybody looked good and Benjamin turning face is just what he needs as to be the gold standard u need gold and he wasnt getting any, so a change was needed

Ok I'm not going to bash the segment or Shelton but clearly at the 3:58 point right before Shelton sings you hear a This is Stupid chant. I thought they said boring, my apologies. I will agree it was more entertaining then what you normally see on ECW from the past few weeks.

Oh wow, so 12 smarks in the crowd chant "This is Stupid" for literally about 2.5 seconds, and that means the crowd hated the segment? You know how many people boo Cena every time he comes out to the ring? Does that mean the crowd doesn't like Cena either? There's always going to be a couple of jackasses in the crowd who shit on everything. I remember going to a RAW back in 1999 and during a Rock promo there was a group of people next to me who started chanting "Boring! Boring! Boring!". There's always going to be a couple of people in a crowd who will hate anything.

Overall though, you have to admit, the crowd was very much into that segment.

Having just watched it for the first time, I thought that was gold. At least coming from ECW.

I don't think anyone is used to cheering at anything going on during ECW, and people probably don't expect much from the tapings when they buy tickets beforehand.

If hope to see more of this, Benjamin certainly isn't bad on the mic.

im afraid of this segment. last time they had a heel take up a singing gimmick he ended up as jethro holiday. I hope ryder and shelton continue but no more singing please god!

I agree. I havent watched ECW this week, as it is not on till Friday here. But I do watch it more than Raw. And Shelton is a cancer on it. I knew he would be when he was traded over. ECW was raped of its good talent, and given shit. He has done nothing for years, and will do nothing great on ECW. Ryder is a man who is on the rise, and I hope goes over Benjamin time and time again.

If your judging Benjamin only on last night's segment, you are not the bright. The Fact of the matter is, this is the most entertaining Shelton'S has been in quite some time. There no question about it, the guy can wrestle and is probably one of the best technical wrestler around right now but the fact of the matter is that he'S been in the WWE for 7 years and he's still stuck in the same place he was at the beginning. It's not because he not a great wrestler, it's because he's not able to connect with the audience.

At the beginning of is career, Shelton had it easy, he was teaming with Charlie Haas and had Kurt Angle as the mouthpiece and when Kurt left them, he had Charlie to help him through his promo. These 2 where a great team because both guys where good wrestlers but Charlie was able to help in the charisma department so they were over. Then they got split up and Shelton got push to the moon by beating HHH a couple of time and even getting a really long I.C. title reign. It'S during this title reign that everybody realise that as gifted as Shelton was, he wasn't that great on the mic, so his popularity began to slowly going down until nobody cared and since then they tried everything to get him over as a heel but nothing stuck. They try everything from the mama's boy angle all the way to his current gimmick as the gold standard and has talented as Shelton'S is, he didn't find a way to connect with the fan. So now, they are trying to get him over as a face and it could work but ultimately, Shelton as to find a way to connect with the fans, the WWE has done everything in their power to help Shelton out, now Shelton needs to put is heart into is work and make this gimmick work because it's been 7 years and he still a lower card guy that nobody cares about instead of being a upper mid-card guys like most of the other guys of his talents are right now.

If he continues to screw up like this, he probably going to end up like Charlie Haas before getting release with Charlie when is contract ends. So for now let'S just hope that Shelton is able to make this gimmick a success because this is probably is last chance to make an impact.

ok i dont see how u found that segment entertaining. smurffs. really??? that was the dumbest thing i've ever seen. if the person can't sing then y let them??? that segment could have been a 1000x better

ok i dont see how u found that segment entertaining. smurffs. really???

I'd love to hear you come up with something funnier. Go on, after all writing funny material is so easy isn't it? Go on, I'll wait, wow me.

that was the dumbest thing i've ever seen.

Clearly you must not watch very much wrestling than. I can think of atleast 3 things from just last week alone that were worse.

if the person can't sing then y let them???

...Because that's called "comedy". Do you not understand how comedy works?

that segment could have been a 1000x better

Right. You come up with something better.

u want something better. have benjamin come out and just beat down ryder. he doesnt have to say a word. he doesnt have to show his lack of mic skills. they dont have to cuss at eachother in smurff. and they dont have to have some stupid sing off. im sorry i thought i was watching a wrestling show, not some comedy skit bullshit

u may have found that funny but i did not. american idol rejects are not funny. talking in smurf is not funny. the crowd doesnt give two shits about benjamin and since he sucks on the mic there is nothing he can do to better his character.

ya people can get over with out mic skills but if they cant then they have to do something to add to his character. benjamin cant become any better than he is, and he's terrible.

So you want the same old fucking thing that has been done 10 billion times already? You want mediocrity, basically? Go watch old episodes of Nitro from 2000 than. How is the same god damn thing we've seen millions of times better? It isn't. The crowd would have cared far less if he had just come out and beat up Ryder without saying a word.

he doesnt have to say a word. he doesnt have to show his lack of mic skills. they dont have to cuss at eachother in smurff. and they dont have to have some stupid sing off. im sorry i thought i was watching a wrestling show, not some comedy skit bullshit

If you think the WWE is about pure wrestling, than you must be huffing gasoline. The WWE is entertainment. And part of that entertainment is comedy. Do you not approve of comedy now? I guess that means The Rock is one of the worst wrestlers of all time in your book, huh?

The crowd loves comedy. That's why guys like Cena are always using it.

u may have found that funny but i did not. american idol rejects are not funny. talking in smurf is not funny.

That's YOUR opinion. The crowd laughed at several different moments during that segment, so clearly your opinion is in the minority. How would it make sense for the WWE to cater to the minority of fans?

the crowd doesnt give two shits about benjamin and since he sucks on the mic there is nothing he can do to better his character.

Did you even watch the segment? The crowd was into it. Sorry, you're wrong. The crowd also loved Shelton's promo on Yoshi Tatsu a few weeks back. But please, continue to spout your nonsensical bullshit.

ya people can get over with out mic skills but if they cant then they have to do something to add to his character. benjamin cant become any better than he is, and he's terrible.

Again, I give you one name: Chris Benoit. Didn't change a single damn thing in his entire career, went on to win several world championships and main event (and win) a Wrestlemania.

If you're going to argue with me, please come up with an argument atleast minutely challenging.

I despise Shelton, it's no secret. And I didn't find that segment funny at all, but that's just because it doesn't cater to my taste. I prefer a more vulgar thing. But I will admit, the fans actually gave a shit about Shelton for the first time in 4 years. The only gripe I had, he was clearly portraying the role of a face, yet he got booed. Loudly. Did someone backstage think he could actually sing? I think he will be ok, but clearly Ryder, the one of the two who actually has a future, has a lot more to gain from this.

Actually I read that they had to edit out the crowd chanting "This is Stupid" from the telecast during the Abe Washington Show. Most of the fans hate the stupid talk show, and putting Benjamin on in a singing role was not a good idea. The crowd was in a frenzy and didnt even give him a chance to sing well b4 they started booing. Unless Abe Washington can actually wrestle, they need to give Miz a show on ECW instead.

Ok, just let me preface this by saying I am a big fan of shelton. While I agree that his mic skills are not golden, they aren't terrible. All he needs is to interject some more emotion or passion in his deliveries, and he really would be great.

I also am a fan of ryder. He is definitely improved in the ring, and his douche persona works well.

However, all that being said, I was not a fan of the ECW segment. It's hard to put my finger on why exactly, but one thing was that the material these guys were given was not very good. I am not sure who wrote it, but I couldn't help feeling like it could have been good but fell flat and the insults to each other were lame and uninspired. The second major problem was that tying this whole scene together was abraham washington, who is himself flat and boring and almost painful to listen to. The fact that both ryder and benjamin had to rely on him to keep the scene going I think was its inevitable downfall.

Finally, ending it with a singing contest was just a terrible way to go. It made no sense, and I seriously doubt it is something that either of these guys (if we are to believe their current personas) would agree to participate in. Also, if I recall correctly, it was obviously being set up so that benjamin would look better, but it sounded to me like he was getting booed while he was singing his part.

So maybe the crowd was into the segment (up until the singing) as earlier posters claim, but perhaps you just had to be there to really appreciate it, as it seemed lame and boring to me.

First off, I don't mind Shelton...I think he's a talented in ring performer who has been lost in the shuffle for a long time now. Anyhow, I don't think that the segment between he, Abraham and Ryder did him any favours. Personally, I didn't find that comedy entertaining but more cringeworthy...I felt a bit embarrassed for Shelton who I thought looked a bit uncomfortable and awkward during the entire sketch (fair enough if others found it entertaining but I did not).

Although, I would say at least WWE is attempting to give him more of a personality...and fair play to Benjamin...he did the best he could with what he had but to me the whole segment came off a bit inconsequential and I thought it carried on a bit too long in order to accomplish the inevitable beatdown.

Overall, I wouldn't say Benjamin is terrible but that particular segment (in my opinion) didn't do it for him but the positive is that he is now trying to display more personality. However, for his sake I hope he can pull it off because if he can't he may get the pink slip with an excuse of "creative didn't have anything for him".
