Bar Room Rep

What about putting everyone's rep at 5 and then it can be deducted or added to depending on people's performance at posting. Losing all your rep results in you losing features of the boards like the PM system or only being allowed to post in the bar room for a while. Gaining rep means you actually deserve it. That idea might be shit and unsuitable but I just wanted to voice my opinion.

Alsi I don't think you should be repped for bar room posts.

i know this might be a little hard to do but how about you can only get repped for serious threads in the bar room instead of being able to get repped for every thread which arent serious conversations.

ok question...

if everyone is at zero....then how the fuck does anyone gain rep?? we would all just bne grey repping each other....

I thought the points given had to do with rep and post count. Wouldn't it be green for members with more than x amount of posts regardless of rep status?

I saw either take everyone down to zero or eliminate it all together. Let the mods decide who gets some kind of notation on their header as far as being a good poster. If at some point the mods decide that you deserve a star or some shit, then you get one, if not, you don't. If this is the case, then the NWS mods can note great music or sports poster, the G-mods can star anyone. It would make it a bigger deal, So and so gets a star for finally making it as a poster, we start a bar room thread to congratulate him, and there are no more "rep me because I made a funny dick joke" threads. Which would suck for me, because half of my posts are dick jokes, but if I can adjust, everyone else can too.

I do like this idea but their are times that the mods aren't on. What about giving some limited powers to trusted posters. These posters could give out the marks or stars that you talked about. The marks could be like keeping things on topic, If you are repped then so many get you a mark. Having good thread marks etc.

So, the rep system then, basically.

Then it turns back into what we have now where apparently, to the masses, rep means power. We could do just fine without rep, but if it's necessary, I think it should only be mods, and it should only be one symbol. If the mods think you're good, then you get a star, if not, you don't. It denotes good posters and veterans.

Oh god FTS. while that sounds like a fine system in theory...

you think people whine and cry about cliques, politics, and all that bullshit NOW....

Is there some way to make it so the rep given in the bar room can be worth half as much as non-spam rep? That way people can still give rep in the bar room, but you don't have people with 50 posts with as much rep as someone with 250

TWO BARS, people.

It's like having two cocks, but one means you're amusing and the other means your awesome a posting.

Think about it.

as long as I'm in the "in" crowd.....:lmao:

I know, I think rep is out of hand, but I also think there needs to be a way to denote good posters.

On a side not, I think I would have like three bars if it weren't for bar room rep.

I also think taking bar rep away would lead to two sentence posts in the lounge. They would border spamminess, but be barely on topic, and repable.

i agree,

the cliques, politics, and everything else will become worse because there's always going to be someone who disagrees.

I dont think there's a system that will be able to please every member. there might be one that pleases most members.

i just thought of something.

How about everyone gets a bar for every forum there is. so lets say for example there's 10 forums, then you get 10 bars. but it doesnt matter how many bars you have, what matters is the color of the bar. a certain color could be the highest meaning it is a good thing. i know it sounds confusing and all but if modified right it could work.

also you can instead of have 10 bars give everyone like 5 bars. so instead of having a bar for every forum they choose 5 forums they post in the most and those are the only ones they can get rep in therefore those are the only forums the color of their bars can change but they can still post in other forums.

it probably sounds confusing...and maybe stupid but it is something that i came up with fast.

i think most people are happy the way it is.

No, they're not. People are abusing it. It has changed from a way of saying good job to a way of saying we're friends. The rep system is here so people can come on here and see who makes valid points, who's posts they should read, who generates discussion, and the like.

It is not for people to hand out like Halloween candy because then no one knows who is worth a shit.

It is a merit based system that has turned into a popularity contest.

I was sorta thinking about this earlier. itd be sort of like the ratings system on Madden...

The rep system is no more out of hand then it was a year ago. The only difference is that people's rep is worth more than it was. As it stands, there are 72 posters with 11 bars, which completely nullifies the point in rep bars.

If you replaced it with my 500 for a dark green, 1000 for a lime green, it would mean that firstly, even to get off grey and into green would take a while, and secondly the list would be as follows:

11 Bars: IC25, Will, Shocky, Sam, Slyfox, NorCal, KB, TM, Justinsayne

10 Bars: HBK-aholic

9 Bars: Nobody

8 Bars: Luther, Sparky, Monkey, 48.7, C.M., tdigle

All of those people have been on the site as distinguished posters for a year or more, with the exception of 48.7 and tdigle, who would have both only recently gotten their 8th bar. It seems fair, and it means to reach the upper echelons, you have to stick around and be good for a while.

When the system gets out of hand again in a year or so, just change the levels again. Simple.

I made you green last night for starting a thread that made it to 200 posts, even if it was mainly NorCal, Fishy, and myself.

I can't rep you aain for a while.

But still, rep means nothing. This is according to the mods. It should mean something, but it doesn't.

Tasty Cakes made that list, and I'm not impressed. I'm impressed by the work he did, but how much was bar rep and how much non spam? That is where I would be impressed. If someone got to eleven bars all in non spam posting, then his rep would mean a shit load.

I think eliminating rep or leaving it as it is are the best options. Who wants to do that much work, first, and second, is it that big of a deal?
